Jessica Simpson on sleeping with fly nets in Africa: “WTF?!?”

simpsonflynet
My new favorite quote (replacing last week’s “future false accusations” from Eddie Cibrian’s rep) is Jessica Simpson’s new tweet from Uganda. Jess posted this picture of herself with some fly nets, and tweeted “WTF?!? Do I really have to sleep like this?” Ah, the entitled princess. God, I love her. She’s dumb, but she’s hilarious.

Jessica in in Uganda for her VH1 series The Price of Beauty. This is her first trip since her puppy Daisy was taken by coyotes. It also seems that Jessica’s tragedy has made the cover of this week’s Us Weekly. The cover uses the words: meltdown, tragedy, heartbreak, alone, killed, crying, and weight. God, that hits all of the sweet spots, doesn’t it? They might as well just put a picture of Jessica with the words “Pathetic Girl Will Die Alone”:

Jessica Simpson is moving on.

Days after calling off the search for her dog Daisy who was snatched by a coyote last week, the star, 29, is in Uganda, Africa, filming more of her upcoming reality show, The Price of Beauty.

“WTF?!?” she Twittered Wednesday after posting a photo of herself surrounded by protective fly nets. “Do I really have to sleep like this?”

Simpson, who is in Africa with pals Ken Paves and Cacee Cobb, is “focusing on work” after the loss of her 5-year-old maltipoo, a source close to the star tells Usmagazine.com.

“She’s so happy just seeing the world and opening her eyes to what’s out there,” another source tells Us. “This is a good project for her.”

The star is also set to visit Mumbai, India, for the show, which does not yet have a premiere date.

[From Us Weekly]

I like Jessica’s optimism, and I think it’s for real. That’s why I’ve always adored her, honestly. She doesn’t really wallow in sh-t, playing the “pity poor me” card month after month. She’s not smart enough to play the media in any real way. While her friends are feeding quotes to the tabloids about how devastated and pathetic she is, Jessica just continues working and doing her normal, ditzy “WTF?!? Do I really have to sleep like this?” Lucille Ball thing, which I love. I’m rooting for her, bless her heart.

Oh my God. This looks like a teaser photo to Blair Witch Project 3 : Jessica’s African Nightmare.

  2. Firestarter says:

Mosquito/fly nets are not that complex of an idea.

  3. Bina says:

No, you can sleep in the open and contract malaria or sleeping sickness or some other mosquito-borne illness. It’s totally up to you!

  4. fizXgirl314 says:

why is she all huddled up and giving the camera puppy dog eyes and looking so pitiful? that’s not the best idea at a time like this when the rumors of her frailty are running rampant…

  5. Lem says:

    (Kendra looks really cute)

the rags, with all the made up stories, have yet to give us Jess & Jen & John commiserate and make sweet sweet love .
I really can’t believe they have yet to link any drama between these two.

I know poor Jess, bless her heart, is shall we say sheltered; she did know going around the world didn’t mean top hotels around the world? Well, maybe she did. If she was expecting the Ritz worldwide, mosquito netting would be a shock. However tonight’s mosquito will be much more of a shock!!

  6. fizXgirl314 says:

whatever people, it was probably a rhetorical question… By anybody else and it would just be brushed off as a declaration of her annoyance… by her, it is some sort of statement of her intelligence…

I’m sure she wasn’t really posing the question so it would be answered… let’s give her the benefit of the doubt…

it’s like when I say “are you serious?!?!” when confronted with something unbelievable… and then once in a while someone will respond with “yeah, why would I joke about this”… I always have to lol…

  7. AC says:

sleep with out them and enjoy sleeping with bugs the size of your face!

  8. princess pea says:

Guys, it’s a new experience for her. Lay off. The first time you slept swathed in netting was probably weird for you, too.

I take it you are all very, very serious with your facebook and twitters? No rhetorical questions. Never use WTF unless you actually wanted an answer. No funny pics and quips for your pals. Sure.

  9. Green Is Good says:

Sure, Chestica. You take those nets right off.

When your spoiled, pampered, stupid ass is airlifted out of Uganda because you contracted malaria or a myriad of other life-threatening diseases, maybe you’ll stop twittering your stupidity.

  10. fizXgirl314 says:

I have to admit I would love this job of travelling around and learning about different cultures… In that respect, she’s a lucky girl… JELAZ!

  11. QB says:

Jessica does not need to play the “Poor me card” becuase her manager makes sure that the Magazine feels sorry for her and put her as the victim not matter what?! She just take anoter picture looking sad.

  12. SolitaryAngel says:

Maybe a dingo’ll drag her off.

  13. Lem says:

you are totally right, it might be rhetorical. I’m sure she’s not asking us if she really has to sleep like that. How would we know?
BUT that pic isn’t helping. it does help the delusion that she IS really asking us

  14. Annie says:

It’s kind of insensitive though, Don’t you think? I mean, she’s complaining about nets like it’s the worse thing, but there are people in Africa who hardly have potable water, let alone a net to protect them from the bugs they have over there.

She might as well have been like:

*valley girl voice* “EWW! OMG. Do I like really have to stand next to this person? I mean like, really? I’m Jessica Simpson!”

  15. Green Is Good says:

@Annie, that’s it exactly. She’s in an extremely poor country, and she either thinks she’s being funny or she’s just being outright insensitive and stupid.

  16. lucy says:

However it was intended, I took it as a spoiled princess remark. Which is unfortunate, because malaria is a huge problem there and there are many people who don’t have the luxury of mosquite netting. If fact there are charities working to supply more of them. If Jessica is going to travel the world, which is great, then she should educate herself a little bit on the areas she is going to.

  17. Anon says:

Ummmm, Solitary Angel? Dingos are in Australia, not Africa….

  18. really says:

Why is she wearing what looks like a wedding band on her left ring finger? Maybe her and John secretly got married and are really enjoying an African honeymoon…

  19. Annie says:

I wonder how she’s going to handle India….

  20. SolitaryAngel says:

@ anon: Yes, I KNOW that (realized it a few minutes too late to click edit!)…how about a hyena? You feel ok about those? ;-)

  21. flutters says:

Annie nailed it. It’s an insensitive and ignorant joke when you consider that the nets are life savers over there and that there aren’t nearly enough of them being provided to people in a number of African countries who need them. The sad thing is that Jessica probably did think she was being funny.

  22. Mairead says:

I assumed she was being rhetorical – doesn’t mean that she still doesn’t sound like a half-wit. There;s no excuse for being incredulous that you have to sleep in a mosquito net when 5 minutes with a Lonely Planet book or 30 minutes with some of the biggest films of all time (out of Africa, The African Queen) might have hinted at the possibility. Anyway, it won’t friggin’ kill her!

On the dingo question, any more of this nonsense and they could be imported in for the purpose! :) `i don;t mind Jessica, but this sort of thing wears out my patience.

*sigh* let’s leave them all alone.

  24. Heavenbound says:

No, you don’t have to. Unless you want to catch the West Nile virus. I would pile on the nets if I were you Jessie.

  25. Kendra says:

Jess, sleeping with fly nets isn’t the same as sleeping on, say, a bed of nails. Stop making it seem like it’s torture. Second, keep your next dog on a leash and pay attention to it when you’re outside. I’m thinking the coyote didn’t sneak up and just grab it.

  26. Dingles says:

Leave it to an uneducated celebrity to make a mockery of malaria and other insect borne diseases. Everyone in Uganda would be so lucky as to have one of those nets.

FYI Jessica, those mosquito nets save millions of lives every year, and you’re fucking retarded.

  27. Aspie says:

She was being an insensitive idiot with her “joke” regarding an essential item in a third world country – it was in extremely poor taste and very unfunny.

  28. Shadow says:

This is more than just being dumb, she is in Uganda, a country ravished by disease and war, where 35% of the population is below the poverty line, and she is making a joke about being protected from something that could kill her?

A child in Africa dies of malaria every 30 seconds, because their family are too poor to afford a net.

See link for information on how “Nets” save lives.

  29. manic d says:

    No Jessica, you dont.
In fact, I encourage you not to.

  30. Mairead says:

in fact, with Christmas quickly approaching, a number of charities, such as UNICEF and Bóthar have nifty little gift ideas where you buy all sorts of things such as hygiene kits, school kits and even mosquito nets on behalf of someone and you get nice cards to give them as part of their Christmas stocking and a needy community gets the equipment they need.

(I really like the Bóthar ones as you get a very funky card and a card coupon-like thing that you can hang on your tree if memory serves me correctly – it’s more uplifting than the classic tugging-on-the-heartstrings approach of UNICEF anyway ;)

  31. Tricia says:

Jessica Simpson no you do not have to sleep with netting…in fact don’t. You are so pathetic at your attempts to continue to try to be relevant it is sad.
