Brad Pitt’s ‘Ad Astra’ looks like an intellectual take on classic Michael Bay

Once upon a time in Hollywood premiere at Cannes Film festival

Ad Astra, the “space movie” produced by and starring Brad Pitt, was originally supposed to come out in May. The release date was pushed back at the last minute, which was probably about Disney buying Fox and changing the release dates of several Fox movies. The silver lining was that no one even bothered to start promoting the film ahead of the original May release date, so no one really looked foolish. Now Ad Astra is being released in September, and I would assume that date means it will likely get a premiere at one of the late-summer film festivals, maybe Venice or Toronto. Anyway, the trailer was just released and I…kind of… think I understand?

Reader, I laughed. I laughed because Liv Tyler is playing his wife/girlfriend and the way he touches the screen with Liv and all I could hear was Aerosmith singing “Don’t want to close my eyes….” This is Armageddon for “grown-ups.” Intellectual Michael Bay, with a recycled Armageddon love interest. Also: Tommy Lee Jones as Brad’s long-lost astronaut dad?? Ruth Negga is in there somewhere too, as is Donald Sutherland.

Meanwhile, Brad wants you to know that he’s totally fine while Angelina is in New Mexico with the kids. She’s filming there and it’s fine:

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are continuing to make their busy schedules work for their children. ET has learned that the 55-year-old actor is still spending time with his six kids — Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 10-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne — even though they’ve been spotted with Jolie in New Mexico while she films her new wilderness thriller, Those Who Wish Me Dead. According to a source, a visitation schedule was actually created specifically for the situation and was put in place well over a month ago.

The source claims the former couple’s kids and Jolie have flown back to L.A. a few times since temporarily settling down in New Mexico, and that when the kids are back in L.A., they see their father. According to the source, Pitt also has tentative plans to fly to New Mexico during the summer months to see the kids for a few days; however, he hasn’t done so yet. The source notes that the actor doesn’t have a crazy work schedule this summer, which will allow him the flexibility to fly out to see his children.

“All is well. The kids are happy, which makes them [Brad and Angelina] happy,” the source says. “There’s no more conflict behind the scenes.”

[From ET]

Us Weekly was even more specific about the schedules and which children he’s spending time with. Hint: the two oldest boys still won’t spend time with him. Us Weekly’s source says: “Brad is enjoying spending more time with the kids and things have been improving with the four younger kids. Brad and Angie have been coparenting, utilizing OurFamilyWizard, which has probably been one of the most beneficial tools for their family in terms of keeping things moving forward in the best amicable terms possible.”

“Brad and Angie have been coparenting, utilizing OurFamilyWizard”
is this a subtle not subtle add? did he got paid to mention it? 🤔 weird

    • Ronaldinhio says:

Unless they really are using it and it is a subtle way to let Angelina know he is the one supplying the stories.
      Very oddly specific
I work in abuse and I see control and games of power and control all day. This very well might be me over reaching

    • olive says:

it’s very common for parents with communication issues to be ordered in divorce court to use OurFamilyWizard, at least in my state. i imagine it’s similar in california. it’s not an ad, the product is well known in divorce courts.

    • Stephanie Halll says:

So, I practice family law and OurFamilyWizard is actually a really common tool that we recommend in high-conflict cases. It’s a little odd that they’d mention it by name, but I highly doubt it’s some kind of SponCon. Just FWIW.

  2. Kebbie says:

It was somewhat believable until they dropped “OurFamilyWizard”

Is Us Weekly selling ad space in their gossip stories now? Just making up stories to accommodate advertisers?

ETA: They even link to it in the article. I’d be pissed if I were a celebrity and they used made up stories about me and my ex and my kids to sell crap.

  3. Dali says:

The two eldest boys only know brad as their father, so their hearts must be broken about it too because angie said for 12 years he was a great father. I hope they will connect again with him. They are still a family and will be for the rest of their lives.

    • Kebbie says:

I don’t see how he went from 12 years as a great father to not caring if he sees them or not. He had them fooled maybe, but you don’t go from father of the year to deadbeat dad overnight. Whatever is going on today was a long time coming and the signs/red flags were just missed or something.

      • Hmm says:

Look up Thomas Jones jr. A man who (by all accounts. Including the ex wifes) was a great father for at least 8 years until his wife cheated on him. She dumped him and he ended up killing the 5 kids.

    • Sierra says:

Those boys lived with him 24/7 and know exactly who he is.

Living with an alcoholic is very draining and damaging to the soul.

      • Kebbie says:

I don’t necessarily think he was abusive all those years, but at the very least he was probably disengaged. If it were truly one incident on a plane, they wouldn’t both be so eager to cut him out of their lives.

On the last post someone speculated that Brad was in it more for Angelina than the kids, and I have to agree. Maybe his devotion to her blinded her as to how great or not so great of a father he actually was.

      • Ronaldinhio says:

Agreed ‘re living with an alcoholic

Also @kebbie it wasn’t that there was only one incident on the plane.
That was simply the last incident. It doesn’t even mean that was the worst incident.
Simply it was finally too much.

I wish them all well but living with a substance misuser is no way to live

  4. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Great. Now I can’t get that song out of my head lol.

  5. minx says:

Well, I hope he stays sober and is a responsible and caring parent, his kids need their father.

  6. Slowsnow says:

Why doesh Brad Pitt shpeak like thish?

Liv Tyler was so good in the The Leftovers, it enrages me to see her as The Beautiful Wife Behind The Great Man again.

    • Bella Bella says:

I was wondering the same thing. Why does his voice sound like a medicated zombie in all the dialogue? Also, looks like another real dimensional woman role… this time for Liv! “I worry about you. I love you.” Is this not what every woman in a Man Movie says?

      • Hmm says:

Watch any of his interviews. That’s just how he talks. My guess is he He tried really hard to get rid of his Midwest accent and that’s what he sounds like now. 🤷🏽‍♀️

      • Bella Bella says:

@Hmm, I’ve actually seen many of his movies. I have never heard him sound like this.

  7. lucy2 says:

This doesn’t look terrible, but not that great either. I don’t really buy Pitt as an astronaut though.
Poor Liv Tyler, hasn’t she done this role already? I hope she gets to do something besides mope on Earth. And she’s 41 to his 55 – God forbid they cast a 50+ actress.

I kind of doubt there’s no more conflict there, but hopefully they are all moving into a happier, healthier place in their lives.

    • Hmm says:

Pretty sure brad is supposed to be way younger than his real age in this movie. Would nasa send a man gunning for 60 into space? Wouldn’t his body be too old for space? 🤣🤣🤣

I thought he was trying to be 30 ish in the movie?

      • lucy2 says:

I don’t think his age is too off for actual astronauts, and I think John Glenn went back at 70. I just wish they’d cast an actress closer to his age to play his wife.

  8. Sidewithkids says:

Lol. This dude is getting weirder and weirder everyday. These articles about his parenting only came about b/c he wasn’t around for Shiloh’s B-Day. Four kids? He forgot he has six? The media will conveniently forget too b/c he’s Brad Pitt, a famous rich white man. Ugh. Meanwhile, Angie is there for ALL her kids yet they want to act like she’s in the wrong. SMH. Strange society we live in. There are more people beginning to see it the truth tho but it’s just sad people have to demean the woman vs the man who is really the one doing bad and/or not there when needed.

This movie looks lame too. The CGI is too much (looks like CGI) and he sounds like a robot talking.

    • olive says:

he has six kids but only the youngest four will spend any time with him, that’s why only four were mentioned. that the media is calling that out still is proof it won’t be forgotten, at least not by every outlet.

    • Kebbie says:

I’m with Olive, they didn’t forget he has six kids, they were intentionally pointing out that only things with the younger four are “improving.”

    • Go Figure! says:

I have to agree with sidewithkids. All of a sudden there is a deluge of how much time Pitt is and/or will be spending with the “four” children. Never mind he is father to six. He doth protest too much and it putting it out there too often which makes me think he’s not spending time with them at all. He and his PR team can put any and everything out there and people will lap it up just because he is Brad Pitt. Shame, shame, shame!

  9. Karen2 says:

I think its weird how she has them all with her while shes filming. Like their role is to be at the Court of Jolie. It was great to see the oldest child trying out for college. They all should be more around other kids & other adults. The good thing is that apparently the movie industry is desperate for skilled trade skills so none of them will have problems finding work.

    • Sierra says:

Military families move around a lot as well and I don’t hear people criticising the parents there.

It seems to me that people in Hollywood act in movies few months in a year and they can afford to have their family members with them.

I don’t see that as a problem unless the children aren’t happy with it.

    • Sidewithkids says:

@Karen2 What? They’re her kids. Where are your kids (if you have any)? Where else would they be? Lol. Maybe w/ their father, oh wait, he only has visitation so nope that won’t do.

Also why does Angie only get slack for this? Will Smith has his kids w/ him, Reese Witherspoon and others too but Angie gets slack b/c why? Oh, she’s close to her kids. She’s a good mother. Lol. I guess that’s the best kind of slack tho. Nothing else really sticks so keep up the lame nonsense of attacking her b/c she’s a good mother.

Also, check all the pics through the years, the kids have friends. But, know, we only get glimpses of their lives, not the whole picture.

    • lucy2 says:

I always felt like they bounced around A LOT when the kids were really young, but in the past 2-3 years they’ve seemed pretty settled in LA. Now it’s summer, and their primary parent is working in NM, so I don’t see the issue in them going with her.

    • Hmm says:

Nah it’s just the the court appointed custody evaluator said the kids should primarily be with their mother.

You should be asking yourself why brad Pitt doesn’t seem to have the 50% his fans were claiming he would get. That’s the real question. As an angie fan I wish he was a good enough dad to have that so angie could have some burden lifted off her shoulders.

      He’s a once a month dad.

  10. Beech says:

Wait AJ is in my state?!

  11. Cee says:

Interesting he just had to be seen on her birthday. He is so full of shade. Really am beginning to dislike him.

  12. Poppy says:

    Deadbeat Pitt…ugh

  13. Hmm says:

Well he has a new us weekly cover like the typical scorned ex lover. And he also has a new hit piece about angie. Good one deadbeat… he’s so predictable.

    He just can’t ~Britney fan voice~LEAVE ANGIE ALONE !

In all honesty the general public couldn’t care less if he doesn’t visit with his kids. Look at Tom cruise and his continuing flourishing career.

  14. Yodeler says:

Looks a lot more quality than Armageddon and the usual Michael for-15-year-old-boys Bay stuff though. I love SF. Will be catching this one in one form or another.

    • Hmmm says:

now your comment up thread makes sense.

No question asked about how deadbeat brad is a well a deadbeat….

  15. Andrea says:

I thought it was a remake of the film gravity.
