Did Taylor Swift spill some blind item tea about Tom Hiddleston & Karlie Kloss?

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West join their family for Sunday church

One of the things that we’ve always known about Taylor Swift is that she loves a good blind item. Back in the day, it was easy for her to create and publicize her blind items, usually about all of the men who did her wrong. She would write a song dissing the guy (for dumping her, usually), and she would sprinkle clues into the lyrics, and into her interviews. Now that she’s not doing interviews anymore, the blind items still exist, but she has to publicize them in different ways. First, she tells her Snake fans about who the songs are about during her listening sessions. Secondly, she drops hints in whatever press she is doing, like the current issue of Elle Magazine. I covered Taylor’s “30 life lessons” in Elle last week, only I emphasized the most gossip-worthy section, the not-so-oblique lessons about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. But did Taylor also spill some tea about Tom Hiddleston? Here’s another life lesson from Tay:

Before you jump in headfirst, maybe, I don’t know…get to know someone! All that glitters isn’t gold, and first impressions actually aren’t everything. It’s impressive when someone can charm people instantly and own the room, but what I know now to be more valuable about a person is not their charming routine upon meeting them (I call it a “solid first 15”), but the layers of a person you discover in time. Are they honest, self-aware, and slyly funny at the moments you least expect it? Do they show up for you when you need them? Do they still love you after they’ve seen you broken? Or after they’ve walked in on you having a full conversation with your cats as if they’re people? These are things a first impression could never convey.

[From Elle]

A lot of people are theorizing that this is about Tom Hiddleston. I sort of wonder if it’s also about Calvin Harris too? It feels like there are elements from both of those relationships in here. But yeah, mostly Tom Hiddleston. What bugs me is that, at the time, she was so clearly using Tom to change the conversation from the snake drama with Kimye. It was never really a case of “Tiddles broke up because he didn’t live up to the first impression.” They broke up because their performative love tour couldn’t be sustained long-term, and because she was just using him in the first place.

Also, are these blind items about the Tay Girl Squad?

Realizing childhood scars and working on rectifying them. For example, never being popular as a kid was always an insecurity for me. Even as an adult, I still have recurring flashbacks of sitting at lunch tables alone or hiding in a bathroom stall, or trying to make a new friend and being laughed at. In my twenties I found myself surrounded by girls who wanted to be my friend. So I shouted it from the rooftops, posted pictures, and celebrated my newfound acceptance into a sisterhood, without realizing that other people might still feel the way I did when I felt so alone. It’s important to address our long-standing issues before we turn into the living embodiment of them.

Learning the difference between lifelong friendships and situationships. Something about “we’re in our young twenties!” hurls people together into groups that can feel like your chosen family. And maybe they will be for the rest of your life. Or maybe they’ll just be your comrades for an important phase, but not forever. It’s sad but sometimes when you grow, you outgrow relationships. You may leave behind friendships along the way, but you’ll always keep the memories.

[From Elle]

Again, she’s totally rewriting the narrative and hoping we won’t remember how stupid all of the performative girl squad sh-t was, and why she did it. She did it because she was Mean Girling Katy Perry. The girl squad was to “prove” to the world that more people liked Taylor than liked Katy. And lord help anyone who questioned the depth of friendship in the girl squad too. Also… Karlie Kloss, huh? Was Karlie a situationship????

    Ugh, she’s exhausting

    • jammypants says:

Ditto. She claims she doesn’t like the drama but the drama loves her. But really she LOVES the drama but the drama don’t love her. Kimye, Calvin, Katy, Tom, and Karlie seemed to all have moved on but she’s stuck writing names “in red” in her Hello Kitty diary. It seems it’s always everyone else’s fault.

I think her lyrics using “irony” and “satire” tell a lot more truth than she wants people to think.

      • Windswept Hair says:

“… but she’s stuck writing names “in red” in her Hello Kitty diary” is the best insult I read today

    • Carrie says:

Yep. She creates the problems and then blames other people. Katy Perry knew who Taylor was and publicly called her on it. That sent Taylor over the edge. She’s still on that edge from the sounds of it. Creepy.

  2. babsjohnson says:

    God is she annoying.

    • ChillyWilly says:

Yep, insufferable! I can see why nobody sat with her at lunch. Some kids are unpopular for a reason.

  3. Feebee says:

Dont know about Calvin but the charming first 15…. well, hard to look past Tiddles innit? We can only imagine what a Hiddleston charm offensive would be like but the amount of giggles would just depend on zero drinks or 4.

    • stormsmama says:

I thought she was talking about a mix of Jake G and Tom H. I don’t think it is one guy. I think its common for girls in late teens and early twenties to think every guy is THE ONE to be their prince. That is what i take away from that lesson:
SLOW DOWN. Get to know him and let hm get to know the real you

  4. Tiffany says:

I thought the Hiddles thing was because Calvin dumped her and she wanted to save face. The pattern of how her relationships ended were always there, but now it was making the wrong headlines for her and Calvin was not one to go away quietly. He can be just as petty as her.

And the girl squad was because she was in her white feminism faze because, again, the wrong headlines about her were because of her relationships.

What is it about Tina Fey and Amy Poehler making a truthful comment at a awards banquet that shakes people.

First it was Clooney and then Swifty.

    • ash says:

she broke up with calvin. he said so himself in one of his multiple twitter rants during that time period

      • runcmc says:

Yes, but at the time that she dumped Calvin, the headlines were more like “haha cat lady Taylor can’t hold on to a man”. She pivoted that into the Tiddles thing and the conversation around Calvin basically disappeared entirely. THEN, after that, the Kimye receipt dropping happened. Tom and Taylor had already traveled the world together and taken their cheesy “holding hands in Italy” pics before the Kimye thing happened, and I think it served to fuel the fire. Like, “she’s such a snake she’s manipulating public opinion by traipsing around with Tom like 2.5 seconds after Calvin ended”. The relationship actually FUELED the snake rumors, because it revealed her to be super calculating.

Man, that was a fun summer for gossip.

      • Tiffany says:

@runcmc. Yes it was. I still laugh at that t shirt. To this day.

      • alissa says:

@runcmc yes, yes it was. Lainey called it Gossip Christmas, and it feels so right haha.

      • Keaton says:

“Man, that was a fun summer for gossip.”

Oh man it really was, wasn’t it? I don’t think we’ve had anything as fun and light ever since and we sure could use it!

  5. Millennial says:

She seems like she really wants to do the whole Beyoncé thing, but she genuinely can’t help herself. I’m not convinced she’s learned half these things, she’s still out here trying to explain, explain, explain and caring what people think.

  6. Originaltessa says:

All of the toxic waste that surrounds her life is always someone else’s fault. She will never admit to being at the center of it all.

  7. Jen says:

So true. Just once, I’d love to hear her say “I played a part in that and I regret it.” That girl squad wasn’t about celebrating finally found friendship, it was “Taylor v Katy,” just as she makes every situation she’s involved in “innocent victim Taylor v whoever ’wronged’ her.”

    • jammypants says:

From reading her 30 things list, it just seems people have to accommodate her while she does no inner work. She stated that she wanted people to accept her flaws but it doesn’t seem she accepts theirs. The way Katy apologized just to end the drama and the way Taylor never ever apologized back but instead took it as Katy was the one who should do it, it just shows she’s a straight up narcissist.

  8. Silver Charm says:

She writes like it’s the high school valedictorian speech she never got to give.

  9. Nikki says:

I’m not sure if this was really about Tom…but if it was, it doesn’t say much..or anything mean, I guess? She’s saying you should get to know a person a little bit before committing to them…I mean, it’s a lesson most of us learn at some point.

    • perplexed says:

      That’s what I thought too.

From reading the headline, I thought she was going to suggest that Tom Hiddleston cheated on her with Karlie Kloss. When I read the real thing I went “That’s it? Oh.”

    • virginfangirls says:

I read it as mean. It gave me the impression she met someone who charmed the pants off her, but then wasn’t so nice. Although she mentions love, and who expects love in a couple months?

      • Dara says:

I imagine in Taylor’s coddled existence, someone being mean is a pretty low bar. It’s not a stretch to think that her idea of being treated poorly is not being told ten times a day how awesome she is, or using too few exclamation points in a romantic text, or sending the wrong kind of flowers when everyone on the internet knows she prefers tulips to roses. Everything about her screams unreasonable expectations.

  10. Mumbles says:

I will side-eye forever anyone who participated in that girl squad nonsense back in the day. It was clearly directed to mean-girl another woman (the lyrics of “Bad Blood” or whatever it was called made it clear) and they shouldn’t have helped out.

    • Erinn says:

I think Katy did just as many low blows, tbh. Neither have clean hands here.

      • alissa says:

I dunno, I think she did two low blows – calling her a Regina George in sheep’s clothing, and pointing out that Taylor attacking Nicki for not “supporting women” with her comments on the VMA nods was ironic given that Taylor was nominated for her song Bad Blood (which was literally about Katy). In both cases, I feel like Taylor started the drama and Katy low-level commented on it without being direct.

She then did call out the whole situation in her Carpool Karaoke, but she basically just kept saying she wanted it over and apologized for her part in it.

I did have to laugh when she then released the hit song Feels with Calvin Harris after him and Taylor broke up, though. That seemed petty.

  11. Case says:

I think the first one is definitely about Tom and it bugs me. According to her own narrative in the song she wrote about him (allegedly, lol), Getaway Car, she was basically using him to get out of her relationship with Calvin and Tom was too infatuated with her to notice. Of course, many of us speculate there were other things in play (a mutually beneficial showmance, a summer fling, a distraction from Kimye, etc. and it was probably a bit of all of the above). But going by Taylor’s own account of that relationship, he wasn’t some charmer who wooed her and convinced her to dive into a relationship only to be a dud — she chose him in order to distract from her own problems.

Personally, I’ve come to speculate that she met her current boyfriend when she already had some predetermined arrangement to be photographed with Tom to distract from her personal drama, so she had to wait to be with Joe, thus she’s not the nicest when it comes to Tom blind items.

    • Nikki says:

Oh man…I didn’t know that ( I don’t listen to her music)…really? That bugs me too, that she wrote all that, yet doesn’t accept any of the fault and puts it all on Tom. I think you may be onto something about meeting her current boyfriend when she was in the middle of all this

      • Justme says:

Well she apparently started going out with Joe Alwyn in September 2016. And she broke up (officially) with Tom in . . .September 2016. Looks like a bit of overlap. And she says she first met Joe (and fell for him) when her hair was bleached and he had a buzz cut – which would have to be the infamous Met Ball of 2016 (or before). I doubt if Taylor will ever give a straight story. She knows Tom will not clap back at her so she can rearrange whatever their relationship was to suit her current narrative.

      • RLLca says:

Joe Alwyn was just a quick plan B to fit into the lyrics after Tom bailed.

    • Carrie says:

That’s why Tom was so confused and upset for so long. He believed she was real. Remember his interviews. She used him and messed with his heart and head, then blamed him. He’s doing inner work, feeling he’s solely to blame, and she’s still out there skating clean away from the pain she caused. I’ve felt sorry for him since because she was horrible.

      • virginfangirls says:

      • delorb says:

LOL, I doubt Tom went into that showmance thinking it was real. He’d just come off three duds at the box office. He needed to change the narrative just as much as she did. I don’t think she is speaking of him here. I doubt she even remembers.

    • jammypants says:

I find her flip flop story very unbelievable. Regardless of what people think, you mean to tell me she chose Joe all along who didn’t even get an invite, went as a plus one with Garrett Hedlund, and no one knew him http://www.justjared.com/photo-gallery/3646870/garrett-hedlund-suits-up-2016-met-gala-01/

And decided, hey I’d rather him than this guy who was getting honored at Anna Wintours dinner for his work in Shakespeare and The Night Manager, whom she sat at her own table since she hosted the Met Gala that year, followed on Twitter two years before they met, who liked posts about him on tumblr then scrubbed them when they started dating, noted by her own fans, who looked every bit the British Prince Charming she bleets about in her country songs? http://www.justjared.com/photo-gallery/3646442/tom-hiddleston-elizabeth-arrive-met-gala-11/

Taylor changed the story because it didn’t go like how she wanted.

  12. Lolly says:

I’m sick of her still trying to be the ‘underdog’. People that went to school with her said she was pretty popular and super rich.

    • Tiffany says:

And every underdog can drop out of school, tell their parents that want to become a star, uproot to Nashville, buy majority stock in a record company so said child can get a record contract.

      Every underdog.

    • Annika says:

That stuff has always made me 🙄 too

    • Jb says:

Yea Taylor was NEVER an underdog or unpopular. Ppl from her high school years have confirmed that and she was born into a family with massive amounts of money. She’s a faux feminist but ultimately just a grade A narcissist. I’m glad she got political but hoping she says in an interview point blank “ Stop using me as your White Supremacy princess. You’re disgusting and filled with hate & even being associated with you all makes me vomit”.

  13. Lightpurple says:

Maybe because he was in Australia too busy working and dealing with the fallout from the stupid shirt to have much sympathy for the childish reaction to the childish Kanye & his childish wife and her childish drama at the end of each day?

    Move on, Taylor.

  14. Svea says:

Ugh yes the reminder of the mean-girling of Katy Perry. That felt toxic because it was attempted ostracism. This is hearsay, but a friend’s friend went to high school with Taylor. She said that Taylor was definitely and widely considered weird so I believe she was ostracized then. Those with an experience of that knows it does leave a deep wound. Meanwhile anyone I have reached out to while others were ostracizing them have never forgotten that simple act of kindness.

    • Carrie says:

You’re a kind soul. Thanks for sharing your story. I’ve been through it too and it’s extremely hard to survive and come back from. Forever glad Tom got away from her. I’ve been glad to see him looking well and busy lately.

  15. otaku fairy... says:

Taylor Swift is way too thirsty, obnoxious, and problematic to have ever entered a ‘situationship’ with Karlie Kloss or any other woman. We Real Deals are never thirsty, problematic, or annoying, don’t you know? ;)

  16. Nanea says:

I don’t know why Taylor still wants to diss Hiddles and/or Calvin Harris, as it’s been years. Tom never said a bad word in public about her, so why can’t she let it/him go?

Or does she feel the need to go public now to take away from Tom getting good reviews for his part in Pinter’s “Betrayal”?

    • Dara says:

I doubt she’s given a single thought about Tom the person since they broke up. What she is worried about all these years later is how the public perceived HER while she was with Tom. Everyone was rolling their eyes and laughing at both of them, so she is more concerned about explaining to everyone why they really shouldn’t be blaming her for any of that ridiculous spectacle. The song, this list, her shit-eating grin for the paps on the day the breakup was made public – it’s all about trying to convince everyone to stop laughing at her.

      • RLLca says:

Well, there was backlash from Day One about how he was too good for her. Must have really bashed her ego.

  17. Chisey says:

Honestly, her explanation of the squad makes perfect sense to me. When I was in hr high/early high school I was unpopular and would totally fantasize about finding people not at my school who thought I was the coolest and show up everyone who didn’t like me. If social media had been a thing back then, I’m sure it would’ve featured heavily. So if Swift gets famous and is surrounded by beautiful famous people who want to be her friend, I totally buy that she’d be so excited that she’d want to show it off. A part of that excitement probably was a sense that the best revenge is living well, aimed at the girls who didn’t like her way back when and the girls she feels wronged her now (Katy Perry – I’m sure there’s plenty of people who don’t think Katy did anything wrong, but TSwift clearly thought she did, and it’s TSwift’s motives being discussed). I don’t understand why people seem hellbent on the idea that the petty reason is the only reason. People are complicated and do things for several reasons all the time. I think she felt like an ugly duckling in school and was excited to show off what a cool swan she is now, AND rub it in the faces of everyone she dislikes. She’s human.

As for the Hiddleston thing, if she’s written a song that pretty overtly gives her ‘take’ on the Hiddleswift situation (which I think Getaway Car did), then reading a vague allusion in an interview as giving a new take on the situation seems like reaching imo. She’s had lots of relationships, platonic and romantic. She could be talking about any of them.

    • lucy says:

I agree with you…I was no popular in high school at all and when I was in my early 20s, I over came my shyness and had a LOT of good times, knew all the players on our local indoor soccer team, met a few famous people. If I had any social media back then, I guarantee I would have been posting everything, from straight truth to adding a bit for emphasis! Thank goodness I outgrew that and am now friends with so many of the girls from high school but back then, i just wanted to prove that see, some people like me…you lost out! Nothing unusual about what she did as far as I am concerned!

    • ItReallyIsYou,NotMe says:

Amen! I think that people have trouble hearing it from Taylor, but what she said about your girlfriends being there for a season really resonated with me. I have many friends that have moved away or that I’ve lost touch with for a variety of reasons, almost never a huge falling out. Maybe they turned out to be “situationships”, but it doesn’t mean that they weren’t important to me when they were in my life.

  18. Laly says:

    She already ruined his career..

    • Lana234 says:

How did she riun it. He still works. She made him look stupid that’s all. He is currently doing a play and Disney is making Loki tv series.

    • virginfangirls says:

I became a Tom fan because he dated her. Saw them on ET, fell into his rabbit hole youtube videos, & the rest is history.

      • Laly says:

He was gonna be a movie star.. His IMDB page is empty! He don’t have a single movie. But at least he’s in a play…

      • Lightpurple says:

At least he’s in a play? He’s a STAGE ACTOR! He has an Evening Standard award and an Olivier for STAGE work. There are actors who have glorious careers on the London stage without ever setting foot on a movie set. He also spent most of the past year doing work for RADA, BAFTA, and the BFI promoting diversity in the industry.

  19. AJ says:

Ironically Taylor apparently gives a solid first 15 herself – loads of people have said she’s amazing at charming and working the room.

  20. Mimisnowball says:

She’s the type who drops her friends as soon as she gets a boyfriend. She doesn’t need her big, obnoxious friend group right now.

    • alissa says:

She had her big, obnoxious friend group throughout her relationship with Calvin, which lasted a little over a year I believe. So I don’t think that’s quite it.

I think it’s more that a lot of those friends overlapped with Kardashians (Kendall, Gigi, Cara, Karlie, etc, etc) and if they didn’t all side 100% with her, she was done with them. Although her and Gigi seem to still be friends.

  21. Amelie says:

Taylor has always thrown herself headfirst into any relationship she’s been in. It scared away Jake Gyllenhaal when they were seen strolling around Brooklyn and going to coffee shops and Tom Hiddleston finally realized Taylor is high maintenance and a lot of drama and all that gossip was bad for his career. When she starts dating a guy, she wants everyone to know it and appears in public with them as much as possible. It was the same with Joe Jonas, Harry Styles, and that Kennedy kid she dated. (Doesn’t anyone remember that ridiculous pap walk of her in London in Hyde Park? I think Harry had just dumped her so she did a walk through rainy Hyde Park with an umbrella by herself and I was like..,, really??) And while I don’t remember her being in public with John Mayer, we all know about because she told us about it!

It wasn’t until Joe Alwyn that she became super private and stopped orchestrating pap walks with her new boyfriend. They have been seen in public together but that’s because they’ve been together so long. They don’t talk about each other in interviews. Taylor has finally “matured” to know enough to not ruin a good thing. Plus she’s nearly 30, you’d think she’d stop acting like a high schooler.

When it comes to other women though, she will forever be a mean girl to me. I understand why–it stems from her own insecurities when she was bullied in high school though… I really wonder how unpopular she was. But she’s definitely got insecurities about female friendships. I really think Karlie dumped her for being so high maintenance and exhausting.

    • Léna says:

I think one of the best pap stroll she made was after being dumped by Styles when she was coming back from some island all alone on a boat.

      • Lolly says:

@Lena God I love that photo. Just pure dramatics. As one should be after getting dumped by an 18 year old when you’re 23.

      • Amelie says:

LOL I just found this picture… thanks for pointing it out to me, it is gold! I also completely forgot Harry Styles was only 18 and she was 23 at the time. Weird age gap. She had a thing for younger guys at the time hahaha!

      • Michelle says:

@ Lena. The only other relationship I can think of where the guy was 19 and the woman 24, was Luke and Leia’s parents. And we know how well that worked out. I think Tau will definitely be dating 25 YO in 20 years and yes she used Tom. She ruined his career trajectory (by no doubt using her clout to sh1tcan his rep and bar him from things) and and he’s never been the same. I can’t stand her. Her music is terrible. I only like her country phase. The technocrap is terrible. I love techno and she ain’t it.

  22. FredsMother says:

That missy knows her star is fading. Up to her usual tricks of discussing her past flings and friends in her music, interviews. She has no friends now and it irks her. You can tell. Plus her fans have grown up and she is stuck. Arrested development in an artist is not good for the career.

    • clairej says:

Her star fading? She is still a huge star. Her latest album wasn’t her best, but it was still pretty good.

  23. Leena says:

Well Tom certainly found out belatedly, and to his cost, what she is really like!

  24. Veronica S. says:

At least there’s the lightest touch of self-awareness in the girl squad reflection. Very mild, though, friends. Wealth and fame protect you from a lot of life’s harder lessons as you grow, which is why so many of them seem stunted years down the line.

  25. sommolierlady says:

She must be so much work to be around.

  26. Yes Doubtful says:

She loved being the popular “it” girl and then it bit her in the ass when they turned on her after they saw her true colors. Taylor Swift…forever the victim. Ugh.

  27. Mina says:

Funny, I read that thing and I thought of Jake Gyllenhaal. Wasn’t Red all about how the guy wasn’t there for her and didn’t think she was cool enough?

  28. Louise177 says:

I think Taylor and Karlie did have a friendship. Don’t know if they still are friends but it wouldn’t be shocking if they aren’t. Life can change relationships. I think the situationships are people who were there for a minute then disappeared(Cara Delevingne, Gigi Hadid, ect). But I’m tired of Taylor’s victim act. I don’t get why she’s never really called out about it.

  29. Elise says:

“Do they show up for you when you need them?”

Who have YOU shown up for, Taylor?

I always thought it was interesting that the relationship fell apart when Tom had to stop dancing attendance on her and go do his actual job. Seems she has no time for anyone who doesn’t make Taylor Swift his first, last, and only priority..

    • Laura says:

She expects a lot from her boyfriends and from her female friends but it seems like she doesn’t do anything for them. She’s so high-maintenance and selfish.

  30. Tw says:

She needs a better therapist, one who will bring her to some difficult truths. Whoever she’s seeing now is just telling her what she wants to hear.

  31. Chef Grace says:

Essay aside, we will always have kisses on rocky beaches, swan pastries, speed dating via a world tour and that infamous vest.
What more can be said. 💋🐍

  32. Rebecca says:

Did Taylor Swift ever apologize for treating Katy Perry badly the way Katy Perry apologized to Taylor? I don’t remember Taylor ever apologizing and what she did to Katy was far worse because she publicly humiliated her. Before Taylor can claim to have grown as a person she needs to do some public apologizing to both Katy and Kanye for her part in their feuds. Apologizing is part of becoming a mature adult. She’s not there yet.
