Irina Shayk was unbothered by Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s Oscar performance

91st Academy Awards (Oscars 2019)

LOL, such strong feelings about Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s Oscar performance. I thought A Star Is Born was dumb and chemistry-free, and even I enjoyed their Oscar performance, quite honestly. But apparently, it was some kind of Rorschach Test for how we should feel sorry for Irina Shayk (she’s unbothered) or that Gaga broke “the woman code” or that Bradley is obviously trying to sleep with Gaga. Or whatever. Who knew that we’re a nation of Mike Pences, where a man can’t even work beside a woman without it turning into some scandal?

That being said, I’m having fun yelling about all of this. David Spade posted a screenshot of Gaga and Bradley’s performance and he captioned it “Is there any chance these 2 aren’t f–king?” Then Jennifer Esposito – who is Bradley Cooper’s ex-wife – replied to Spade, “Ha.” There was no love lost between Cooper and Esposito when they divorced, and Esposito has only made a handful of comments about him since their divorce. I mean, I think it’s interesting that she would chime in with ANY kind of statement, but I’m not going to do some in-depth analysis about what the “ha” meant.

Meanwhile, Us Weekly claims that Irina Shayk is utterly unbothered by all of this:

While Oscars viewers were swooning over Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s intimate “Shallow” performance on Sunday, February 24, the Silver Linings Playbook actor’s girlfriend, Irina Shayk, watched from her front-row seat — and wasn’t bothered at all.

“Irina knows that Bradley and Gaga are artists,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly of the 33-year-old model. “It’s a nonissue for her. They were in character putting on an Oscar performance.”

[From Us Weekly]

Can we be done with this now? I mean, it’s fun and I’m glad people are talking about it, but seriously – I do not believe that Gaga and Bradley have ever done anything other than hold hands or pretend, on camera, to fool around for A Star Is Born. Frankly, I think the bigger gossip in Gaga’s life is probably why she pulled out of her engagement to Christian Garino, and I’m guessing it had nothing to do with Cooper.

Honestly, I’ve found their Oscar campaign super cheesy and I wish people would stop speculating on it. We were watching them performing this in Vegas only the other day and couldn’t stop cringing. They were working to get that Oscar – that’s showbiz baby.

That said, I would love for them to be sleeping together just for the sheer drama.

  2. velourazure says:

If I looked like Irina Shayk I’d be unbothered as well.

  3. MS says:

Why would she be upset? B Coop would like Gaga romantically if she was more masculine.

    • Enn says:

Can we please stop with the gross speculation on his sexuality? It’s none of our business.

      • Berries says:

THANK YOU. Would also love to stop giving this story attention in any form. She was a professional PERFORMER doing her job. Continuing to gossip about this is just adding to the same old sexist story that any kind of productive collaboration between a man and a woman in a professional setting has to be underwritten by some romance/scandal/attraction.

      • paranormalgirl says:

Thank you. I’ve stated this in posts about both Bradley Cooper and Rami Malek. Enough. We’re better than this.

      • MS says:

No your right, i should’nt have made a cheap joke like that. No excuse! I apologise. Someone’s sexuality is no one’s business.

  4. Jen says:

I think they have overacted to get publicity after the initial reports that the didn’t get along. So they overdid it to stop those rumors.

  5. April Hurley says:

A littel off topic: but has anyone else noticed how BCoop went off-key (or out of tune) when he sang the verse “I’m falling…” during the performance? It’s at the 0:57 mark…

    • delphi says:

Hey, dude isn’t a professional singer. I have had years of vocal training, and I’d plotz if put on that stage. I think he did really well, especially since he had previously said that he’s done with the singing side of things.

(Still think he has “serial killer” eyes, though. *shudder*)

    • gemcat says:

I actually think it was his voice purposefully ‘breaking’ for effect. Also, all I see when I look at their alleged “chemistry” is Gaga looking at him thankfully (for making a movie that brought them both there to that point)..that’s not to say that she didn’t carry it! But, I wouldn’t know, haven’t seen it and have no intention to, not a fan of either of them really.

      • Rando says:

I also read gratitude instead of romantic connection. She was trying to perform humble but it just kinda came off as needy so I get why some would see a personal vibe.

  6. N says:

I just wanted to say I’ve been a long-time lurker on this website, starting off as a constant and consistence update on gossip, then to enjoy the commentary and finally, I must admit – I learn SO much from this community. Literally every one of you is gracious and supportive to each other and dissects a piece of gossip into the fun part and a social commentary. It is so interesting to hear what every one has to say. My love to you all!

  7. Clare says:

Meh, kinda lame of Esposito to chime in, frankly.

Also, everyone making snarky comments about how BCoop would only be interested in Gaga if she were a man/his partner is a bear…wtf? I’m a little confused by how a man’s private life (sexuality) deserves this kind of discussion, and frankly, derision? Maybe he likes men. Maybe he likes women. Maybe he likes both. His Current partner is a woman (I believe he shares a child with her?) – why is this a discussion? Jesus.

    • Kitten says:

ITA. People need to stop with that sh*t. Also, some of the “jokes” about his sexuality are borderline homophobic.

      • Jerusha says:

I’m always bemused how when someone doesn’t like a certain actor the “he’s secretly gay” line comes out. First, nobody but his closest knows, second, it’s his business if true, third, what does it matter? For a largely liberal crowd here that’s a bit homophobic.

    • Renee says:

Thanks Clare. I agree that it is becoming ridiculous. Why is anyone discussing his sexuality?

    • tealily says:

    • otaku fairy... says:

+1. It’s interesting to see how sexual orientation gets treated differently for male and female celebrities. There’s a rush to assume that the males are closeted and/or bearding- sometimes with the assumption that he’s bisexual, but often with the assumption that he’s gay and any relationship he’s ever had with a female was fake. That’s probably got to be a little hurtful to the ones who aren’t/weren’t bearding or lying to their mate. Then with the girls, you see that most of them have to ‘earn’ being able to identify as bisexual and discuss different things that come with it- which is also disrespectful to the women they’ve been with as well.

    • lucy2 says:

I think a lot of speculation started after his quick divorce from JE, but I agree it’s not good.

As for no chemistry with his partners…maybe he’s just private? Some people just don’t like to broadcast their relationship or PDA on the red carpet. Probably half the celebrity couples who did that are split up now anyways, so it usually doesn’t mean much.

    • paranormalgirl says:

I love you guys. I said this on another post and was informed that this is a gossip site. Yeah, thanks for telling me after 5 years or so of hanging around here. I also know that we Celebitches are better than that crap.

    • Sash says:

I hope people keep this same energy in Zac Efron/Tom Cruise/etc posts as well.

      • Winnie Cooper's Mom says:

Re: Tom Cruise.. I agree we shouldn’t speculate about his sexuality bc he has actual offensive qualities. I’m game for picking him apart in all other areas of his evil, abusive, Scientology-based life. He’s a terrible human being and more people need to be made aware of the atrocities he’s responsible for. His day is coming.

    • Josephine says:

Esposito lost my respect when she made really harsh statements about an ex without revealing who it was. Everyone assumed it was his, and maybe it was. But I find those veiled statements really childish, and really unnecessary. It might have hurt him a little at the time but I think that time always reveals that those statements hurt the speaker far more than the intended target. It someone was abusive, she has every right to talk about it, but that shady crap is just awful.

      • xdanix says:

I totally agree with you Josephine. I also think her timing is quite suspect- if I recall correctly, her comments that may or may not have been about him came out around the time of his second Oscar nom in two years, when his career was soaring, and got everyone talking about whether it was or wasn’t him. Now she comments again, on the heels of of a very big night of his life professionally? (I know he didn’t and wasn’t going to win anything, but he was still nominated for 3 Oscars and was half of the most talked-about performance of the night, indeed one of the only really big things about the night.) And now everyone is talking about her comment and what it means. It’s just… really not a good look. For her, not for him.

    • I'm With The Band says:

      THIS x100000

  8. Tiffany says:

If Bradley and Irina did not have a child together, I would have never put them together as a couple.

What is it about Bradley where ever relationship that we have seen him in is just, chemistry free.

    • Ravensduaghter says:

I don’t get the gossip. They were physically close together for about 30 seconds, and that was the part of the song where they were supposed to sing together anyway. It’s a common motif for duets to have the singers-regardless of their the nature of their onscreen relationship-sing close together.
Nothing scandalous here. I see friendship and mutual admiration-that’s a kind of chemistry-but I don’t see the heat that would drive an affair…

    • FHMom says:

I think Bradley was best cast in Wedding Crashers as the Wasp fiancé. He and Gaga gave a great stage performance at the Oscars. She is a pro on stage and he is a good actor who seems all about his image. It’s ridiculous that anyone is shipping them.

      • StormsMama says:

I loved him as Chris the american sniper. That movie was intense and the topic is hard but he was so convincing in that role. He totally transformed.
Also I agree that his wedding crashes role was amazing. A total breakout. when he takes out Vince Vaughn and says “big tree fall hard” or imitates an otter covered in oil (or whatever that was) he is perfection. Totally believable.

    • Josephine says:

Maybe he’s just private or shy? Not everyone shows chemistry in public.

  9. Casey says:

Even a more juicy tidbit that everyone missed: JLO sat right behind them (her seat was directly behind Irina). JLO and Cooper had a brief fling a few years ago. Never mind Gaga, it’s the JLO story that’s probably more interesting.

  10. RBC says:

What are these rumours about Bradley and Victor Garber?

    • Renee says:

      RBC, Just stop it already.

    • Clare says:

What they are, is none of your (or my, or anyone else) business. Enough of this backhanded mockery of someones sexuality. Its ridiculous. We don’t yet live in a world where people are free to embrace their sexuality openly, without consequences – and until we do, we don’t have the right to discuss/question it.

      • Jerusha says:

Slightly OT, but I was an avid reader of Photoplay, Modern Screen, etc. in the late Fifties. I remember the breathless reporting about Tab Hunter’s dates with Natalie Wood, about Rock Hudson’s marriage to his agent’s secretary, of Sal Mineo’s engagement to Jill Haworth, and so many others. The studios promoted this, the mags reported it, and the actors had to go along with it or suffer consequences. They weren’t allowed to openly be who they were. Couldn’t have people gossiping about them, might affect box office. All this was 60 years ago. The more things change ….

    • Jerusha says:

Never heard any rumors whatsoever. Except right here, right now. Not necessary.

    • paranormalgirl says:

Rumors are bits of information and half truth for lazy people to claim as fact. I believe Victor Garber (and I believe his partner) was a good enough friend to let Bradley crash at his place during the first season of Alias. Kind of like how I let my friend crash with me when she was looking for a new place to live.

    • Jaded says:

They are nothing more than scurrilous rumours. Period. Full stop.

  11. minx says:

    Why should Irina care lol?

  12. sara6 says:

Their performance will be remembered as one of the best moments in Oscar history. I was so moved by the direction of the performance. They clearly worked on how the camera would roam on the stage. I’ll always root for Gaga, because she’s the kindest recording artist you’ll ever meet.

    • Renee says:

    • LORENA says:

I really am not a huge Lady Gaga fan, although I think she is extremely talented but their performance was truly beautiful. It will def go down in history

    • atlantic says:

I really didn’t like their performance at all and found it cringe-worthy. I was open to enjoying it, it’s just that I found it so over-the-top and mawkish I wasn’t able to.

  13. Sash says:

People really have a problem separating fantasy and reality,

  14. LolaB says:

The bottom photo is the most glamorous Theresa Caputo has ever looked.

  15. tuille says:

Best part of this clip for me was seeing a nanosecond glimpse of Katharine Ross, next to hubs Sam Elliott at the end of Shallow, in a green dress. Slightly longer look during Streisand’s audience pan.

  16. Mar says:

Just stop. This speculating is so GD offensive to Irina as his partner, not to mention homophobic AF to boot.

Also. They are ACTORS. Nominated for OSCARS. I sure as hell hope they can put on a believable show!

  17. Lucy says:

Well, let me pretend to be shocked.

  18. Mrs. Peel says:

As for why Gaga called off her engagement, I think she’d honestly just rather marry herself.

  19. Bellagio says:

It’s a performance by two people who are professionals and also have been nominated for an Oscar.
What is the alternative? Give bitchy looks to one another?!
Irina flying off the handle because they gazed lovingly into each other’s eyes during one of the most celebrated love songs this year?
    People need to chill.

  20. Pandy says:

Ah I come here for a laugh and if that’s laughing over our salacious tidbits about BCoops sex life, so be it!! It’s all in fun and gossip.

  21. Reeta Skeeter says:

I don’t think B and S have any obvious chemistry, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t in a real relationship. My friend and I love to watch people in relationships and most of them don’t walk around with sizzling hot tangible chemistry.

  22. xdanix says:

I said this in a comment thread on the “woman code” article about them, but does anyone else think it was bitchy of the ex to leave that inscrutable little dig, and then act innocent about said comment? She had to know it would be picked up and carried everywhere, and yeah, she obviously had her own experience with him that didn’t end well (couldn’t have, if their marriage ended that fast!), but, like, something about that just rubs me the wrong way. They haven’t had anything to do with each other in about 14 years and she was only married to him for four MONTHS! His relationship with Irina, which is being speculated about so heavily and the stories about which she just poured fuel on, is coming up to four YEARS. I just really think it wasn’t her place.

    • Sash says:

I agree with you on Esposito, but it certainly makes me wonder what he did to her that was so bad (that she’s clearly not allowed to talk about) that she is still ticked about fifteen years later.

      • Liz version 700 says:

Esposito has had 3 short marriages, I wonder if she is a bit of a piece of work too? I could be wrong, it diesse snarky to talk about him 15 years later.

      • xdanix says:

Eh, I dunno. Does it have to be something that he did, particularly? I mean, obviously he could have, I don’t know them! ( I doubt it’s a Tom Cruise she-must-stay-silent situation though, he was not nearly as rich or powerful when they broke up as he went on to be by ANY means. He wasn’t even really successful at that point.) I dunno, I’ve just read a few things about JE that suggest that she’s… not a particularly happy woman in herself. She may well feel quite bitter to see her ex- who it clearly didn’t end well with- have a career that’s only soared while hers has sort of stalled.

I’m sure he’s not her biggest fan either, but the only thing I’ve ever seen him say about her is that she was a wonderful woman and it simply didn’t work between them, which seems like pretty classy handling on his part. Whereas I think what she just did really wasn’t cool. While what she said really isn’t a big deal in itself, it just handed the media a whole new round of stories to write about his relationships with two women who are actually still IN his life, and fanned the flames of all sorts of speculation about him busily, (since I’ve seen people taking that comment to mean several different things) and I just cannot believe she didn’t know that would happen as a result.

      • Josephine says:

I just wrote about her above, but look, if he did something really awful to her, she sure as heck did not have to sign a nondisclosure agreement about it. She was a working actress at the time they divorced and wasn’t destitute. If she chose money over the ability to speak, so be it. But I don’t think the snide does her any good. I am not saying that he is an innocent here, but I sure as heck wouldn’t jump to the opposite conclusion either.

  23. Harryg says:

That’s a really beautiful song, by the way. And so is “Always Remember Us…” also.

  24. jammypants says:

I’m glad people are speaking up about the sexuality speculations. I’ve always taken it as people are homophobic when they assume he’s gay (to put him down). It’s gross and we need to move past this way of thinking. I’ve always felt a person’s sexuality is never as salacious as the gossiping public thinks it is.

    • hezzer19 says:

      “(to put him down)”

I see the “but it’s a gossip site” blah blah blah defence all the time and I just…missing the point people!

Wondering about a person’s sexuality is human, probably. I mean, sure, I’ve wondered. Privately. In my own head. Not about BCoop to be honest but about others.

It’s not the speculation that bothers me as much as the…implication that somehow being gay is bad? People are using the speculation of his sexuality as an insult. Like, he’s a horrible human being because he’s gay? Because he won’t admit it? Because he’s slept with women? What is it?

I first noticed this trend on the Jeremy Renner threads and I just…I don’t get it. People really need to stop using sexuality as some sort of insult.

  25. TheOriginalMia says:

I thought the speculation & all the comments were unfair to Irina, and I don’t care about her or Bradley. This entire awards season this has been their schtick. Look at the undeniable attraction between these two actors that elevated their acting to the stratosphere! Give them all of the awards! Except no. There was no attraction. The movie was the 4th remake. They weren’t Streisand and Kristofferson. So, they sang beautifully together in their final performance ever of their Emmy nominated ballad. Whoo hoo!

  26. feralchild says:

I feel like Bradley is attracted to Gaga’s talent, because she is, and the sexy mike stand power grab that people have interpreted as him wanting to rail her on the piano as him admiring her talent. When talented people deliver, it is sexy, even if you don’t want to have sex with them.

I feel a work husband/wife situation with them.

In ASIB, I definitely got the chemistry on Jackson’s side of the table because of how Bradley would look at her, he can sell being in love with anyone with his inserts/close-ups of his eyes in love. Jackson as a character is the one I connected with because of his inability to connect, to be vulnerable, and his fear of abandonment.

    • Dee Kay says:

I think BCooop did a great job, chemistry-wise, with both JLaw in Silver Linings and Lady Gaga in ASIB. And, he gave brilliant, wonderful performances in both films, and I’m sad he didn’t win as Best Actor for either. I think his acting approach — in the Hangover, too, with male co-leads — is to build a friendship outside of work so that the characters really seem like they are close and warm with each other, they have real feelings for each other. It’s a terrific technique if done well and in his case, really effective. That behind-the-scenes work really does translate to the screen. Not all actors can do that.

However, for me, ASIB’s problem was that it was so poorly written. The first 1/4 (Jackson and Ally’s extended meet-cute) was A+, but then it slid right into pablum and nonsense. Pablum and nonsense with great performances (including musical performances) and a fan-f–king-tastic soundtrack that Gaga can be proud of forever (I know that others wrote songs for it, including Cooper, but Gaga was the driving force behind the music of the film). But the writing was ridiculous. Gaga was 1000% the winner of the film b/c it’s really the soundtrack that soars, no weaknesses anywhere on that production, whereas the film (which Cooper led), was a mixed bag. I pray for his next film, he hires solid writers. He can direct, he can act, he can act great with others, he can get great performances out of others. But a film needs a wonderful script to be a wonderful film.

      • feralchild says:

I agree that the writing was weak for me. Bobby was Jack’s handler but who was Jack’s Rev? Jack’s Rev should have been the one helping Ally, with maintaining her writing credits, making sure she’s getting paid to be on tour with Jack, helping her find and maintain her own representation. I understand that Jack is paralyzed with fears and insecurities about being abandoned, which makes Ally’s moves to a career of her own painful for him but there’s no way his label wouldn’t be interfering in their relationship’s songwriting gold on Jack’s behalf so they get their cut.

All that is good and well but the end was a mess. Jack had a therapist, where did he go when Rev was a monster to him? A sponsor? Bobby? He spent 2 months in treatment, how could he have not approached with his therapist his rock bottom? Why would a therapist glaze over his rock bottom? Why would Ally be in the dark as his wife to his previous attempt, disclosed to a therapist as a part of his medical decisions? Where did cutie Greg Grundberg go? Why would anyone on his team, gathered to make money from him performing and writing, let him be alone right after treatment? So many questions, so many holes in the writing.

      • Dee Kay says:

@feralchild yes the plot (after the great first quarter is): she succeeds, they fight and make up x100, he falls down a hole, tries to get out, doesn’t. Boooooooring. Repetitive. And painfully stupid.

  27. Endoplasmic_ridiculum says:

I think we all know what really happened in ASIB: she killed him with that song about “them jeans, jeans!!!”

  28. Justjj says:

Why is Gaga so orange? She needs to see Ariana Grande’s spray tan artist. There is no reason to look like Our Commander in Cheeto these days when there are spray tan products that are actually decent looking.
