Emilia Clarke in pink Balmain at the Oscars: so pretty and perfect

Emilia Clarke presented the RBG song “I’ll Fight” performed by Jennifer Hudson. She was in a a striking lilac column gown by Balmain with lines of tiny sequins all over and an asymmetric neckline. This looked amazing on camera I love the way it folded and shimmered. When I see such intricate tiny work like this I wonder if it’s handmade or if the sequins are machined on. I always like seeing Emilia, she has such a great attitude and it shows.

Sarah Paulson was in a crazy pink Brandon Maxwell cinched sack gown with side cutouts. This is bad but it looked kind of interesting on screen, from the back, as it was drama. The back is open and the top was like a cape. It was definitely weird though.

Melissa McCarthy was also in Brandon Maxwell, in an expertly fitted black and white gown with a full on long cape. This wasn’t Melissa’s year to win an Oscar but she’ll get another shot at it.

Presenter Amandla Stenberg was in a flapper-like Miu Miu gown featuring tiny rows of sequin chains draped from the bodice and layers of fringe at the bottom. This was fun and I liked it on her.

I loved Emilia’s , especially when she was presenting, he looked great. Melissa looked beautiful as well.
I like all of these except for Sarah’s, it’s just too odd for me.

  2. Avamae says:

    Khaleesi looked nice.
    Pink ‘Whatever’ not.
    Black/White worked good.
Light Grey/Silver dress was as pretty as its wearer.

I really disliked all of the capes. I’m counting down the seconds until Goop takes credit for All The Capes. “Listen peasants, no one even knew what a cape was until I wore the very first one in 2012.”

  4. Megan Hurwitt says:

Omg I love this dress so much. Both the dress itself and the dress on her. Get it, mother of dragons

  5. Janey says:

Sarah Paulson’s dress looks like my mother ran it up on her sewing machine in ten seconds flat.

    • Skyblue says:

Sarah’s dress is so bad, I could have made it. 😂

    • AnnaKist says:

Oooooh, yeah. That dress reminds me of some very-hastily cobbled together ‘’costunes’’ made from staples and the crepe paper no one wanted, for the two poor, unfortunate children whose parents didn’t bother about a proper costume for the class play…

Sarah was pick for worst gown. It’s really, REALLY awful.

Amandla had the best hair of the night.

    • Carol says:

That dress on Sarah looks dreadful. I like the color and concept though – maybe on someone else it might have worked. But on Sarah – it’s AWFUL.

    • Deedee says:

      Ugly silhouette and awful color.

  6. M says:

Emilia looked gorgeous. Love the dress. I rarely like what she wears to award shows so it’s nice to see her look so good

  7. paranormalgirl says:

Wasn’t Melissa’s bottom half pants? I thought I remembered that from the red carpet.

  8. Veronica S. says:

Sarah’s is ugly to me, not going to lie. It’s a total miss.

I like everybody else’s, though. Melissa’s is a nice, unique look that still manages to be low-key enough that it doesn’t still the spotlight for others. Emilia and Amandla look stunning.

  9. Pandy says:

Emilia’s dress just lit up on stage – so much better than the carpet. It twinkled – how can I NOT love it?? Melissa’s looks great and Amandla’s was gorgeous.

  10. AnnaKist says:

I love Amandla’s dress – she’s a stunning girl and this suits her so well. I really like Emilia’s frock, too. I never watch movies, or hardly any TV, so have never seen these ladies in anything, except for MM, whom I remember from Gilmore Girls. I don’t like her gown or pants or whatever it is. It just cuts her in half, and her hair looks awful. Sack the stylist. SP’s sack thing is just plain horrid. Even the fabric looks really cheap. Having said all that, my opinion really counts for nothing – I live in black pants, black jeans, black leggings, black trackies, with mostly black tops and skate shoes. I don’t think I’ve worn a dress since, oooooo, my wedding day, maybe…

  11. Ann says:

Emilia’s dress was my favorite of the evening. It was so sparkly! It looked so great on camera and I’m liking it in the pictures too. I loved her little joke about letting RBG borrow her dragons too.

  12. Kerfuffle says:

    I really liked Emilia’s dress.

I liked Amandla’s as well, but wish that she would have given Miu Miu a shout on the red carpet. Since no one asked her who she was wearing in the pre-interviews she clearly made a request not to be asked, but I think it’s a balance because there is an immense amount of power in fashion exposure.

Love Melissa McCarthy’s. And I would never wear Sarah Paulson’s, but she frequently beers toward whimsical and different and this is really interesting.

  13. Lucy says:

Emilia looked perfect! She has the best smile (and she matched Jason Momoa!). I can’t believe how grown up Amandla is! It feels as if it was yesterday that I saw her playing Rue.

  14. Herta says:

Fillers-wise it is the Mona Lisa’s secret smile with Paulson and Clarke – at least around the mouth area.

  15. WineGrrl says:

Sarah Paulson’s dress looks like a thing I would have sewn in Home Ec class in 7th grade (in the 1970s). Sewing machines and I have an uneasy truce.

  16. Deedee says:

I like calessis look better than Emilia’s, sorry. She looks better as a blonde and I think that’s-ink dress looks cheap and the waists seems off.
