Angela Bassett is 60 and I have to look that up every time I cover her. She always brings it on the red carpet and we appreciate that so much. Angela was in Jenny Packham, in a white dress with a sheer overlay featuring lines of silver sequins. On anyone else this might not look as good but she is perfection. Look at her makeup it’s just spot on with that cat eye and nude lip. I would have liked to see more women from Black Panther last night but I think they knew the Critics Choice Awards would be skippable, and they were.
Anna Paquin was also in Jenny Packham, in an emerald v-neck gown with ribbon detailing and sheer loose sleeves. This is ok. I mean it’s not the worst and it’s not the best. Maybe on Angela Bassett I would like it more. I miss Anna and Stephen Moyer together. They’re both on separate series now. They were so hot on True Blood, I loved that trashy show.
Maggie Gyllenhaal was in light gold Prada, in a dress which fit her beautifully but had weird folded fabric sleeves. Maggie and her husband, Peter Sarsgaard (I always want to call him Peter Skarsgard like he’s Swedish), look fine in these photos but they seemed annoyed with each other during their red carpet interview. They said it was nice to get away from cold New York city.
Yalitza Aparicio of Roma got the better Prada, a light pink gown with delicate gathering, soft pleats and a thin train. She looks lovely. Yalitza was nominated for Best Actress, which went to Glenn Close and Lady Gaga (sideeye). She’s only 25, this is her first role, and she has a graduate degree in preschool education. I just learned most of that from Wiki Roma won so much last night including Best Picture, Best Director for Alfonso Cuarón and Best Cinematography. I’m going to watch it on Netflix this week!
Finally here’s Judy Greer in one of the weirder looks of the night. She was in a busy print multicolor Reem Acra with ridiculous puffy sleeves. Her face says it all. This looks like something made for Emily Blunt which she passed on.
