Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton at the Palm Springs festival gala: cute or nah?

30th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala

The Palm Springs International Film Festival kicked off last night with its annual star-studded gala. I don’t really take the PSIFF that seriously – they’ve basically attached themselves to the Golden Globes, and they hand out awards like candy. That being said, organizers are smart – they know people will show up because no one minds a day or two in Palm Springs, and most people are in LA for the Globes and the Oscar season anyway. So this gala was basically just a teaser for Sunday’s Globes, and I’m fine with that. Emma Stone was probably one of the biggest names at the gala – she wore this terrible ensemble by Louis Vuitton. To be fair, this feels very “Palm Springs” to me.

Regina King in Valentino. I love her, and I want her to kill it during the awards season, but I’m not sure if this dress gets it done.

Emily Blunt in Roland Mouret. The dress itself is fine, but something has been throwing off her look for months now. I think it’s her hair.

Hey Timothee! Fifty Shades of Chalamet.

John David Washington in Gucci. Someone told him vertical stripes would make him look taller!

Here’s Viggo Mortensen. Did I tell you how much I disliked Green Book? So dumb.

Rami Malek is waging a very effective undercover Oscar campaign, btw.

I don’t know if it’s any correlation but ever since Andrew and Emma split up her style and make up has been shoddy. Remember Emma’s style during 2015 award season? It was incredible. Or her tasm Paris premiere outfit and hair? Now I think she always looks kinda plain (in the face) or Rachel her make up artist gives her bright green eyeshadow and makes her look like a clown. I kinda like this outfit though, the fit is perfection but I’m not feeling that wet look flicked out hair

  2. Chaine says:

Oh goodness, it’s awful, looks like my granny’s 1980s sofa cover.

  3. Lucy says:

I actually really like Emma’s ensemble. Or at least I like it on her. I love Emily’s dress. And I always love to see Rami, Mahershala and Timothee. Always.

  4. SM says:

It looks like LV people were cought off guard and were unprepared to dress Emma, so they just ripped a few drapes from grandma’s hoise and callled it a day.

  5. Ali says:

    Great photo captions lol.

Emily Blunt looks dead in the eyes. It’s weird.

I’m kinda over Emma Stone and I don’t know why. That outfit is awful.

    • little bird says:

disagree re: emma’s outfit (i kinda weirdly love it? not the hair tho. the hair can go.) but OMG you are so right abt emily!! the lights are on but nobody’s home in that photo and it kinda freaks me out?

      • Kitten says:

The hair is sooo bad. Women with large foreheads like Emma (and myself :( ) have to be careful with our hairline. Slicked back in any way just looks AWFUL. #FiveheadProblems

  6. Tanguerita says:

Mahershala and Melissa, all the way. Everyone else looks rouuuugh. Emily must have lost some weight, is too tan and is probably punch-drunk tired.

    • Dee Kay says:

I think the “too tan” on Blunt is what is throwing the look off. The dress is good, makeup good, hair is meh but forgivable, but her skin is…what color is that? Beige-y/bronze.

    • LWT00 says:

Poor Emily has been promoting Mary Poppins Returns for months. When she as on GMA a few weeks ago and they asked what her plans were after the media blitz, her answer was “a month in sweatpants.”

Poor woman. She just wants to rest.

  7. Nan says:

Emma’s is trendy, chic, and fun. Everything else here is a snoregasm.

    • kellybean says:

I think the top part would have been really cute with a classic black cigarette pant and no belt. The purple is very pretty on her.

  8. Mia4s says:

It’s so nice to see everyone receive the award it was decided they would receive when they agreed to show up! 😏

Honestly everyone looks pretty dead in the eyes. The fashion is also pretty blah. It’s so soon after the holidays, but given that Oscar voters attend you have to show up, shake hands/kiss babies, and keep pretending any of this is about merit. 😁

  9. s says:

Bradley Cooper is morphing into Barry Manilow.

    • Fee says:

Yes! I just said this to my friend!

    • Mia4s says:

My suspicion is he’s having some work done. Which is incredibly sad given he’s only 44 years old! But man the THIRST on this guy.

I have a feeling he will win an Oscar (but for acting…not directing…which I think will disappoint him) and then be miserable for years trying to repeat the same success. He’s got that vibe.

      • xdanix says:

Is he really that thirsty? I genuinely ask because, like, I’ve seen a lot of people say it, but compared to half of the people he’s up against for nominations, he’s been almost nowhere to be seen. Seriously- he’s campaigned as little as possible, hasn’t done half the events and only turned up where he had to, while most of them have been out campaigning their behinds off for months. (And I’m not saying that to slight them! If I was in their shoes I would too, and what’s more, I’d have fun with it!) And it’s not like it’s a new approach to campaigning for him- he’s done the same other years when he was up for awards too.

So I’m genuinely curious to know why he gets saddled with the tag “thirsty” over most of his peers who choose equally baity projects to work on, and actually have been out and about far more than he is. I’d love to know!

      • Melanie says:

xdanix: He may not be going to that many events, but he IS doing tons of staged photo ops with Irina and their kid. I think that is his way of keeping his name and face out there.

This is one of the only times I probably haven’t liked Emma Stone’s red carpet looks. She takes risks that almost always pay off and manage to look both fashion forward as well a elegant. Almost always love her styling too. Her makeup and hair stylist is usually on point.
I prefer Emily as a brunette . I think the darker color is stunning with her skin tone and eye color. She’s still gorgeous though.

Love Regina King and she is long overdue for an award.
Keep being gorgeous and dapper, Maharshala.

  11. Seraphina says:

    Not digging any of these.

  12. Dani says:

    Where’s Adam Driver tho? 🤔

  13. Melanie says:

Does Bradley’s face look a little too orange to anyone else?

    • kellybean says:

Emily’s coloring looks a little off as well, but , yeah, whatever Bradley Cooper is doing to his face is not flattering. He’s attractive at times and in certain lighting but never had leading man looks and if that’s what he’s trying to achieve with Botox, etc. it doesn’t suit his natural features.

      • xdanix says:

To be fair to both of them, I don’t think the lighting in their photos is doing them any favours. I saw other pictures of both where their skin tones look much more normal. But yeah, he’s definitely a little too tan.

(Though honestly, he looks better than than pale these days, because whatever is going on with his face is MUCH more obvious when he’s pale and clean-shaven. Just look at the photos of him promoting ASIB in Japan recently. The difference was startling, and not in a good way! And I’m saying that as someone who likes him! But MAN- to look at him in pictures from The Hangover, which is only about 9 years ago, and the pics of him in Japan, you wouldn’t think it was the same guy.)

      • mosi says:

OMG, the Japan pics are terrifying! He looks like he is morphing into a plastic Robin Williams!

  14. KBeth says:

That jumpsuit is horrid : (
I thought that was a photo of Jodie Foster when I scrolled by, never noticed the similarity before.

  15. Natalia says:

Her smile is like “yeah I know it’s nuts but I gotta wear it.” The only thing really wrong with it is the fabric pattern.

Same expression on poor Regina. A beautiful woman in a really dumb dress.

  16. Sash says:

I kind of like Emma’s outfit. It’s loud but it works, especially considering how tired it is to see just boring, muted colors on the red carpet.

  17. Lizzie says:

    melissa mccarthy looks incredible.

  18. Other Renee says:

I actually like Emma’s outfit even though I’m usually not a fan of busy prints.

Emily’s dress is overwhelming her. She looks lost in it.

Mahershala looks mighty fine in that outfit. And I usually don’t comment on the men because I don’t care what they’re wearing. But he does look good.

  19. tw says:

Regina King is a goddess. Finally saw If Beale Street Could Talk. I loved her character – the warmth, love and support. Loved the line said by the sister in the film, “Unbow your head, sister.” Sigh, that film gave me chills.

  20. Shelley says:

Whoa – I’m LOVING Emma’s look! She’s fierce and “killing it” imo.

  21. SJhere says:

Richard E. Grant looks good in these pics.
I like him and didn’t know he has a new movie out.
Melissa McCarthy looks wonderful, the dress, makeup, all good.

  22. Tinkerbellrae says:

The outfit I like it’s her hair and makeup I dont
