Justin Bieber cries in public at least once a month, and it’s totally fine

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin

Breaking: former child star-singer feels ennui as adult. That’s the point of this People Magazine story about Justin Bieber’s state of mind these days. Justin is sort of a newlywed – he sort of married Hailey Baldwin in a civil ceremony, but apparently they won’t consider themselves officially married until the church ceremony. Justin isn’t really working much these days, he and Hailey are just traveling and keeping it low-key. She’s been working more than Justin – she’s gotten more work as a model because she’s with Justin now, and he seems happy about that. Sort of. I mean, he doesn’t feel happy all the time. Which is the point of this People story.

Justin Bieber feels empty sometimes, even though his life is filled with plenty to be grateful for, including his wife, Hailey Baldwin, an insider tells PEOPLE.

“Justin has his up and down days like everyone else,” a Bieber source tells PEOPLE. “What he struggles with mostly is that he knows he is beyond blessed, but he has days when he feels empty and confused. He feels something is missing from his life that can’t be bought. It’s a missing feeling of happiness,” the insider explained. “He is very much grateful for his amazing life and especially for Hailey. It’s difficult for him that he can’t just enjoy everything and feel happy. He has been in treatment for this before.”

The pop singer, 24 — who was photographed visibly upset on multiple occasions last month — smiled while walking with his arm around Baldwin during a morning coffee run in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Sources recently told PEOPLE that Bieber’s decision to dial back his work commitments has to do with his desire to spend more time with Baldwin, whom he wed in a secret ceremony in September.

“Justin seems okay. However, he doesn’t seem ready to record new music yet and keeps saying that he just wants to hang out with Hailey,” an insider said. “Hailey actually seems more ready to work than he does. They have had a few conflicts about it. Justin likes to just hang out, watch movies and chill. Hailey has a lot of energy and projects that she wants to do.”

I actually thought this story was completely out of left field, but then I was reminded of the fact that Justin has been seen crying in public several times in the past few months, including a reported sobfest at Harry Potter World over the weekend. Maybe he’s just really in touch with his feelings? I mean, crying in public is a thing. It happens. Many, many people cry in public. But do we cry in public multiple times over the course of four months? I don’t know. Is Bieber just afflicted with some mild depression, or is he just fine and in touch with his feelings?

in my personal, non medical opinion, he sounds depressed. The only time that I regularly felt empty and cried in public, I was in the most serious depression of my life.

  2. Canadiangirl says:

    Depressed, sad, lost soul….

    • rickestrick says:

possibly exacerbated by drug/alcohol abuse. That’s just speculation but I know from personal experience how that combo can really bring you low

  3. Swack says:

Saw the shaved head and really wondered what is going on. I hope all is well but really don’t think so. To me it is not normal to just break down for no apparent reason.

    • ValiantlyVarnished says:

Well we have no idea if it was “no apparent reason” because we weren’t privy to anything that happened immediately before. PS – I shaved my head in May of this year. I wasn’t depressed when I did it.

  4. ValiantlyVarnished says:

For everyone saying he is depressed. That’s a HUGE assumption. As someone who is currently dealing with a family member who has Major Depressive disorder and who has suffered from depression myself, crying is not an indicator one way or the other about depression. In my most depressed period of my life you would never have known it. I presented myself to the outside world as if nothing was wrong.

    • Janet says:

If the article is correct about him feeling empty it could very well be depression. Apathy is a common symptom of depression.

    • meme says:

maybe it depends. I cried every day multiple times a day for months and months straight when I was diagnosed with depression. I also couldn’t eat (it was almost too joyous of an activity for me) and lost considerable weight.

then I started jumping out of planes because it was the only thing that cleared my mind.. God i was a f-ing train wreck too.

    Drugs imo.

Bieber was such a punk a-hole for so long but maybe he’s trying to turn it around? Being tearful and crying sounds like depression to me. He’s an adult now but he’s still growing up so hopefully he gets some help and becomes a happy, functioning adult minus the jerk tendencies. I always give child stars the benefit of the doubt because it is so freaking obvious that fame isn’t good for the vast majority of young people.

I mean outside of Hailey, who seems to be good for him??… he doesn’t seem to be doing well. He looks probably the worst physically (esp his face) since he became famous. Ever since he got with Hailey he seems to rely on her heavily emotionally (as any spouse should) but definitely crying in public a lot, and if you look at photos of them, he often embraces her like a child would, leaning on her chest as she stands over him.

  8. Meg says:

as a woman I’ve learned to cry without anyone noticing, tears just rolling down my cheeks while I keep doing what i’m doing. previously i’d probably think I needed to go home if I was that emotional but now I see it as part of adulthood and doesn’t mean I have to no longer be productive during my day. It doesn’t have to prevent me from living. Feelings are part of being human but with justin I think he doesn’t have a real desire to be a singer anymore-my gut is he just wants a private life WITH all the privileges from being famous without having to deal with fame. Hell I’d be tempted to just vacation all year if I was that rich myself but his wife wants fame so…

  9. Alyse Leitao says:

His skin is not looking good in these pics… could be linked to whatever is getting him down (if he is)

Glad he cut the hair finally!

Life must be tough in that weird world of ex-child star

  10. Yes Doubtful says:

There’s something very wrong with him, It’s not normal to up and get married and cry in public all the time.
