David Beckham reluctantly agreed to appear on the British Vogue cover with his wife

19 years!!! X I love u so much x

A post shared by Victoria Beckham (@victoriabeckham) on

Two months ago, there was a very serious gossip vibe happening around Victoria and David Beckham. Sources far and wide insisted that their marriage was dead and that they would announce their divorce at any moment. The gossip seemed legit, so much so that the Beckhams’ spokesperson released a statement denying the rumors completely. One theory about why the Beckhams were hanging tough? Because Victoria had organized a Vogue cover, and the Vogue editorial was heavy on the “happy marriage, happy family” narrative. I honestly thought the “Vogue cover” reference was about American Vogue, which is Victoria’s white whale – she would do anything for an American Vogue cover. But apparently the Vogue theory was just about British Vogue. Everything else is the same though.

David Beckham has been persuaded to appear on the cover of next month’s Vogue magazine with wife Victoria – to avoid further spurious rumours that the couple are set to divorce. I can reveal that in May, the former England captain insisted he would not feature on the front page picture to go alongside a family interview in the glossy magazine.

The shoot, with Posh and their four children, was arranged to mark ten years of Victoria’s fashion range. Annoyingly for Vogue, Beckham agreed to appear on the inside pages only. However, after the couple were forced to deny earlier this summer that their 19-year marriage had hit a rocky patch, David, 43, thought his original decision would prompt yet more silly claims. Interestingly, the Beckhams believe it was the decision for Posh, 44, to pose with her children – but without David –that prompted the whispers in the first place because it made her look like a single mother.

A source said: ‘Initially David wanted to leave it to Victoria – he didn’t want to be her appendage. Their businesses are run separately, so given that the whole interview and photoshoot was to mark the anniversary of her company, David felt he should leave it to her. Then, of course, the rumour situation happened, which David and Victoria think was started by her posing without him. After much deliberation, David decided that to avoid even more nonsense when the magazine is published in September, he would go on the cover.’

Fortunately, I hear, there were so many lovely family pictures that included the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star that Vogue editor Edward Enninful did not have to order an expensive reshoot. The interview will be the first the couple have done alongside their children – Brooklyn, 19, Romeo, 15, Cruz, 13, and Harper, seven. Although Victoria’s high-end fashion label is celebrating its tenth anniversary, it has faced a rocky past 12 months. The firm lost £8.4 million last year, and four months ago Victoria was forced to make 60 staff redundant. But I hear that the Vogue article will focus on her success as a fashionista and working mother – and Victoria cannot wait to see it in print.

Basically, it sounds like David has been checked out of the marriage for months but he’s still committed to putting up appearances for the sake of his image. I can actually understand why he didn’t want to be on the cover though, especially if the focus is on Victoria’s business. Still, people want to see Brand Beckham, and that means Posh and David together on the cover. I still think he’s checked out of the marriage, but I also think that if they were going to get divorced, he wouldn’t even bother with keeping up appearances. So, in that sense, there’s nothing to worry about: Brand Beckham is safe, they’re not getting divorced. But behind the scenes, their marriage is a wreck.

Feel jolly sorry for VB. She’s mocked and maligned from pillar to post – mostly for her sombre expression, but the woman does hate being photographed – for everything under the sun whereas St David, by and large can do no wrong. Despite his endless affairs (one of which apparently resulted in the impregnation of an administrator, and another that jeopardised a teacher’s career), his reluctance to support his wife publicly and to the media, and his attention seeking behaviour, she is the one to constantly get it in the neck. Recall that she’s the one who does a huge amount for charity under the radar, including donating tens of thousands of pounds’ worth of designer clothes (while Kim K. gave a paltry 10%) and is devoted to her children, not to mention being a pretty damned good designer. Why is it always we women who get it in the neck???

I read your entire comment with a British accent.

Also, very true, women get blamed for everything when a relationship falls apart.

All. The. Time. Its such BS.

I like the British accent reading idea. Agree with all this too.

I’m hoping they stay together. Seems natural to have ebbs and flows. In a few years they’ll be ok hopefully.

Didn’t that teacher, or her father, deny it happened? I guess they could’ve been paid off, but it sounded like they were genuinely angry about the rumors.

I dunno… I don’t really see it as reluctance to support V because he agreed to appear in the article. He just didn’t want to be on the cover… Maybe he thought that would be ‘stealing her thunder’ since is IS Vogue which is all about fashion which is V’s baby… Could be that he wanted HER to get all the glory of being on the front cover herself?

But then I have no idea with these two – it could be that their marriage IS crumbling but at the same time it could just be that after however many years they’ve been together (forever by Hollywood standards), the excitement has gone and they’ve gone from the honeymoon stage to the ‘shit with the door open because who cares I’ve seen it all already’ and now they are just comfortably coasting???

was the baby eventually born? wow poor posh, can’t catch a break with that dog of a husband. Hope it doesn’t turn out like Ben Affleck/Jennifer garner level

    • OSTONE says:

I know right? Or the fact she is ostracized for not smiling. What if she doesn’t want to smile? This woman is damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t. She has been trying to counter the rumors by posting happy family pictures on social media, yet David is the one trying to get a soccer team off the ground on the other side of the world and not putting any effort and she is the one carrying the burden of the criticism.
      Give her a break ffs.

I hadn’t thought of it like this, so I appreciated your post very much! You’re right, but I hate to see women to put up with so much crap, instead of knowing they deserve so much better.

    • mk says:

      Very true – completely agree.

    • Shannon says:

      1000% agree w/ this

    • Jamie says:

      I completely agree.

PRETTY much everybody every woman’s narrative these days I closed up shop
Down there it’s just not worth it lol

He sounds like a DOUCHE. It must be difficult if she’s still in love with her husband, but the man seems to have no regard for her. She is more interesting than him and more successful. I hope that she can find the strength to love herself and leave a bad marriage.

That fake, squinty glare David does because he thinks it makes him look hot is hilarious.

Nazi hair ruins it every time.

  5. Mara says:

Where does the ‘VB desperatley wanting an American Vogue cover’ rumour come from? It’s cited all the time on here and on Lainey Gossip but I can never work out the original source. Is it something she or someone from Vogue said in an interview?

  6. Mo' Comments Mo' Problems says:

How many excuses must he make? She’s a better spouse than he is. She may not know another reality of being a woman and it will be hard for her to rebuild, but a lot of things this year shows that he’s not that great of a person to begin with. We’ve seen this coming for a long time. He should give and show her more respect.

Thanks for spilling more tea, Kaiser.

And yet these serious rumors have been going around for 19 years….

She’s so much cuter than him. I never got the hoopla over him.

This is the first time I’ve ever felt sorry for VB. I feel so sad for her…
