Ryan Lochte got suspended from competition for 14 months because of the ‘gram

A post shared by Ryanlochte (@ryanlochte) on

When I saw the news that Ryan “JEAH” Lochte had been suspended from competitive swimming for 14 months, I honestly thought it was A) an old headline and B) still related to all the crap that went down at the Rio Olympics. I was prepared to argue that only Ryan Lochte could find a way to STILL be punished for lying to his mom at the Olympics two years ago. But as it turns out, Ryan Lochte did something new to get himself suspended. Earlier this summer, Lochte posted this on Instagram:

Lochte’s caption was “Athletic recovery with some #ivdrip @revivalivlounge #vitamins.” He and his wife/girlfriend were in the Revival IV Lounge in Florida, and I’m absolutely convinced that this was part of some kind of sponsorship deal, as in it was Lochte making some money on the side through a sponsored Instagram. Unfortunately, Lochte is still a dumb-dumb. He’s a 33-year-old man who never sat down and read the anti-doping rules and regulations. The US Anti-Doping Agency has a rule about any IV/needle usage: no competitive athlete can receive any kind of IV drip without a Therapeutic Use Exemption, and even if they have a TUE, it can only be a small amount of liquid via IV.

Lochte apparently cooperated with the USADA’s investigation and accepted the 14-month suspension. That means he won’t be able to compete in any national swimming championships for the next year, not to mention the World Championships next year. But he could still potentially qualify for the Olympic team for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. I have to wonder: how much did Revival IV pay Lochte for that sponsored Instagram, and what kind of money will he lose from this new suspension? Lochte just continues to be a massive cautionary tale for every professional athlete, right? Only Lochte would get suspended for something that HE posted on social media. It’s a sad day in the House of JEAH.

    He’s just so freakin’ dumb.

    That’s all I got.

    • Esmom says:

Jeah, this is just so him.

    • H says:

I watched one episode of his reality show and you said it. I don’t like commenting on people’s IQ levels cuz that’s something you’re born with and it’s difficult to change unless you extensively study and learn. But yeah, Ryan is dumb as a box of rocks.

    • delphi says:

He’s so legitimately stupid that it physically hurts. Down to my soul.

  3. Jane says:

He doesn’t have too much going on between his ears, does he?

  4. grabbyhands says:

God, he is just dumber than a bag of hammers.

  5. Eva says:

Is there a legislation in the US that celebs and influencers have to disclose they’re being paid for a social media post? I’m surprised if there isn’t. Both pictures here are clearly ads?

    • They are supposed to put #ad somewhere in their post so consumers know they’re being advertised to. That’s been a rule for a couple years, but I don’t know how seriously it’s enforced.

  6. Beth says:

Definitely not the sharpest guy. Too much chlorine in the brain, Ryan? This is what happens when people post EVERYTHING they do on social media

    • Mel M says:

Yep and he was probably compensated in some way. When I read this yesterday though I just laughed, because it actually wasn’t surprising, just sad funny. How is someone that should have “people” around him advising him just so freakin dumb? And he is a father now. My gosh.

  7. Kate says:

Ryan “Jeah” Lochte is so dumb I’m surprised he remembers to not breathe under water.

  8. Tootsie McJingle says:

I used to think he was hot. But now I just can’t get past the fact that he’s a numb nuts.

  9. HelloSunshine says:

Where’s the #ad? Can’t he be fined for that for every single post that’s clearly an ad that doesn’t say it?

  10. Betsy says:

I liked him as Pizzarina Sbarro’s sex dummy, but sheesh, he’s just stupid. I thought the dumb was an act.

  11. Rescue Cat says:

Oh look at that hangdog expression. He’s learnt his lesson. Let’s buy him a present.

  12. Laughysaphy says:

Ugh time to hang up the speedo, Ryan. What an idiot.

  13. Elena says:

whatever boost you get is not worth infection or infiltration risk, drink water? eat healthy?

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, my doc said she’d never advise taking IV or injected vitamins once when I asked because I was having a hard time raising my vitamin D levels. She said the benefits are no greater and the risk isn’t worth it.

      • Veronica S. says:

My friend has to get IV and SubQ injected vitamins because of her gastric disorder. She doesn’t recommend it to anybody – it’s expensive, time-consuming (having to go to the doctor to get it done), and even the absorption rate is not necessarily that much better than what you gain through digestion. If your body doesn’t need the vitamin, it’s going to just excrete it. This kind of stuff just exists to draw dumb rich people in.

      • Elena says:

yup vitamins equal really expensive pee

    • LadyT says:

Revival IV did a good job picking an appropriate spokesperson to market a product that only a dumbass would buy.

    • Sigh... says:

This reminds me of the oxygen bars rush of trends past. As opposed to not smoking, thoroughly cleaning your living space(s), and meditating/breathing exercises.

  14. Abby says:

Oh Ryan. ::shakes head:: He is such a pretty dum-dum.

  15. lobstah says:

What if he wanted an excuse to NOT compete, but still get paid for endorsements? Maybe he’s not super dumb, just dumb….?

    • perplexed says:

That’s what I was wondering. I thought maybe he was preparing for retirement and it sort of didn’t matter now if he got suspended.

    • KBeth says:

I was thinking the same thing because can he really be THAT stupid??
I mean he’s dumb but is he super dumb? Lol.

  16. Miss Margo says:

    Lol “dumb dumb”

  17. Starkiller says:

Should be banned indefinitely from polite society. What an utter plank.

  18. JaneDoesWork says:

I think what this article leaves out is that this probably means the end of Lochte’s competitive career. 33 is considered super old for an Olympic swimmer (the average competitive swimmer is like 23 years old), and he was not performing as well at the last Olympics anyway. It would have been an uphill battle for him to qualify for 2020, and with a mandatory 14 month break at this point? It’d be pretty amazing if it happens, but I won’t hold my breath.

    • Laughysaphy says:

He says he’s still going for Tokyo, which seems crazy to me! I agree, though, this should be the nail in his swimming career’s coffin.

  19. Pabena6 says:

Any excuse to re-share this golden moment!

  20. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

He even lost the hotness now! Wow, what happened?

    • perplexed says:

I think he aged a bit during the Rio scandal. He looked 20 when he was 30, and then suddenly when he had to explain himself he started aging before our eyes. It was like wrinkles started appearing during the moments when he had to give the interview saying sorry.

He IS dumb, maybe even super-dumb, but it does seem like even he’s smart enough to get stressed out by everyone yelling at him.

He hasn’t really looked quite as good since that scandal.

Now looking back, it is a little strange to think how upset Al Roker was at Ryan Lochte over the Rio mess, but I can’t recall him getting this heated about the button under Matt Lauer’s desk.

      • Mattie says:

Al Roker was upset with his co-host taking he’s a kid stance on The stunt he pulled in Rio when the kid was in his late 20′s early 30′s and representing America ….. I for one don’t blame Roker going off on him….

      • perplexed says:

Sure he can get heated about it if he wants. What Ryan Locate did was dumb.

However, that doesn’t preclude one from thinking that the people at NBC are selective about they get outraged about either. In light of what has come about what Matt Lauer is doing (which we didn’t know then, but know now, but certainly the people at NBC did), the selectivity in outrage can also strike one as a bit strange, even if one does think Ryan Lochte could have done a better job of representing his team. It doesn’t have to be either/or. When you think about all the disastrous and gross things going on right now, one almost feels nostalgic for Ryan Lochte being the dumbest meathead alive. I vaguely remember Al Roker saying ” He lied to his mom; he lied to Matt Lauer” as if Matt Lauer is a moral authority on anything. The argument wasn’t even that he lied to his country or Brazil, but that he lied to Matt Lauer. It’s kind of weird now thinking back. Matt Lauer lied to all of you, Al!

  21. SequinedHeart says:

This guy is such a tosser. I’m glad he got banned.

  22. minx says:

I came on this thread just to read all the variations on “dumb.”

  23. Amelie says:

Ha loved that last sentence “It is a sad day in the House of JEAH.”

I know he’s too stupid to understand he should never open his mouth. But if he was smart enough, he’d get all he has to do is: swim fast, stand around and smile, and don’t say a thing. Oh and don’t post anything on social media but cute puppies and kittens.

  24. Larissa says:

This is a skit about Ryan doing commercials, and sadly, it isn’t too far off!
“Good for you!” is my favorite.

  25. Christina S. says:

I imagine his wife is just wth him for his looks and money. He doesn’t seem to have anything else going for him personality wise.

    • perplexed says:

Well, to be fair, neither does she. Does she look brainy or brimming with personality? Not really.

  26. paddingtonjr says:

The dim, but cute lug act might have worked when he was in his 20s, but he needs to find a new image. And, yes, at his age, a 14-month suspension means making the Olympic team is not close to certain.

  27. liriel says:

Seriously he has proven so many times that he’s not a bad guy. He could never be a conniving villain because he’s dumb. Pretty, Ken-like but one of the dumbest people I “know”.
