Amal Clooney in Stella McCartney at the Royal Wedding: canary-fug or gorgeous?

Ah, okay, let’s get to the wedding guests! Amal Clooney was absolutely the “standout” fashion moment of the royal wedding. Amal wore this mustard yellow Stella McCartney dress, and George wore a dove-grey suit, which made him stand out more than Amal, frankly. Most men were wearing dark suits, per the dress code. Maybe George got confused. Amal wasn’t confused though. It feels right that she wore a canary color because that’s what she reminds me of. This is beautiful and the hat is perfect, but I still don’t really know why they were there. I could have done without all of the cut-aways to Amal during the service though – so many melodramatic eyerolls and sighs. Nah.

David and Victoria Beckham were there, no surprise. David is actually pretty tight with both of the Wales brothers. Victoria… well, she’s apparently befriended Meghan, but who knows. All I know is that Posh looked GRIM. Per usual, she can never smile.

Serena Williams skipped the Italian Open to attend this wedding! I hope she’s ready for the French Open! Anyway, she wore this perfect Versace – perfect because it had bridesmaid-vibes, perfect color for a wedding and she accessorized it well. It looked a lot better in motion than in these photos, honestly.

OPRAH WAS THERE. My theory is that Oprah got the invitation after Harry and Meghan learned that they couldn’t invite the Obamas. So they invited Oprah, who is basically America’s Dream President anyway. Oprah’s Stella McCartney dress was no bueno, but I did like her Philip Treacy hat.

And here’s Idris Elba. One of the things I enjoy most about Idris is that he’s pretty tight with many figures in the British royal family. He’s an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, and he’s quite friendly with William and Harry. His fiancee looked great too.

    Amal…try hard.

    • homeslice says:

So thirsty…both of them. I hope Grandpa George gets his nap in before the party tonite…

    • Olenna says:

ITA. Just watching her “strut” was irritating, so I had to ignore her after that grand entrance.

      • M.A.F. says:

Her walk into the church annoyed me greatly for some reason. It was if she didn’t know how to walk. She came off as very teenage-like.

      • FuefinaWG says:

Amal’s walk into the church was pretty damn smug. I think she kept trying to stop so people could get photos of her. She looked like an a$$hole with that walk. (I did like the outfit, though, although she looks too skinny. Ten lbs would help.) She should learn from Victoria Beckham, who looked smashing, and didn’t strut like a pompous a$$.

      • KBB says:

Lol she tried to stop SEVERAL times for photographers and she even started to angle her body towards the cameras at one point, but George just kept walking, completely oblivious.

      • Seraphina says:

Oleena, I so agree. I was watching footage of them walking to the church and she kept looking around like an idiot. She so likes attention and it was very evident today. Like the dress but her strut was idiotic.

The nap for grandpa George comment was hilarious. I’m at home sick and not as sharp and I was like, grandpa George??? And when it hit me I couldn’t stop laughing. Thank you!

      • Jane says:

God, you would’ve thought it was HER day and not Meghan’s based on prancing into the church as if she owned the place. If they were invited to the reception/luncheon evening activities etc. Lord only knows the stops she put out there to have all eyes on her.

      • Sojaschnitzel says:

Happy to read that it wasn’t just me who was bewildered by her way of walking. She looks great in the pictures, but in the videos.. oh my. Somebody hand that woman some bottles of water for her thirst.

    • Beatrice says:

So thirsty, Amal. I noticed that when the camera was on her (even during prayers), her eyes were darting around looking for the camera. Just like she searches for the cameras on her pap strolls.

      • sunsetsnow81 says:

I noticed that. Parched! She’s too much and I really liked her when she first came on the scene.

      • KBB says:

It’s so disappointing because she’s such a badass in her career. I wish she’d just have a little more chill. She is so EAGER at events and red carpets. I wish she presented herself as more above it and aloof, like an Angelina Jolie type of demeanor. That’s probably unfair because she is who she is, but I just think it would look a lot better image wise. I guess their gaudy Venice wedding should have tipped me off to what she’s really like. Probably makes her a great match for George though!

      • Greenpear says:

I’ve seen footage of her pre-George, when she was walking into some court hearing, and she had the exact same excitedly darting around eyes, scanning the room to look at who was looking at her, with the neck ever so slightly craning higher up as soon as she entered. Strange creature. The attention seems to make her more thirsty.

      • Aurelia says:

Beatrice, it’s called a bad case of HUNGRY EYES. Bet amal tried to enter through the side door where all the other royals came in.

    • Liberty says:

Soooo try hard and look at me loud like some character in a Disney wedding. Bleh. And George….just go away with those stupid expressions. How this pair got special seating, I can only imagine.

    • Dr Mrs The Monarch says:

Amal looks good in yellow. However, the sunlight reflecting off the dress makes George look jaundiced and sickly.

    • Anna says:

I thought Amal was the bomb today. So sick of all the dull neutrals – it’s almost summer, bring out the bright colors!

Yes, Amal is thirsty, but can’t that be said for everyone in that church? They are all about status and appearance. At least Amal has hustled and made something of herself, in comparison to the bland aristos who are there only because of old money and inherited titles.

      • xena says:

But it was a great contrast between the other guests who entered and Amal – the others focused on the event, looked normal while walking and she was basically searching the cameras and posing non stop. Nobody else did that. It’s funny, because I never really got this extreme posing vibe from his 2 year-girlfriends, so I always assumed he might not be into this posing and would go for women who don’t exaggerate it either.

    • citney says:

      Who invited Big Bird????

      • PunkyMomma says:

        That was my first thought.

This is THE BRIDE’S DAY, not yours Amal. Stand out much?!?
Besides the color, the tie in the back was far too long, and I thought it looked almost like a train. Trains are reserved for the bridal party, not the guests. GMAB. 🙄

    • Kath says:

Yeah, I always kind of liked Amal but that strut and posing on the way to the church… WTF? I was watching the wedding with older people who didn’t even know who she was and they were like “who is that narcissistic woman”?! The posing and posturing was extreme and she seemed to be seeking out every camera and person looking at her. Ugh.

      • Lucy2 says:

I usually think people read too much into her, but in this case I agree. The strutting walk was very odd.

  2. Lee says:

Amal has always that ‘look at me look at me’ attitude I cant stand.
Oprah and Serena looked good. Didn’t like Idris’ girlfriend outfit, too casual for a wedding, especially a royal one.

    • Jess says:

Agree re Serena – that was beautiful and appropriate. Idris’s girlfriend was too casual. And I liked Amal’s hat but hated the cut of her dress.

  3. Bluthfan says:

I thought Amal killed it. George definitely got the dress code wrong. I believe they were there because Beatrice’s fiancé works for one of George’s companies and they are friends so I assume George knows Harry as well.

I am over Victoria Beckham. She looked like she was attending a funeral for a fashion designer. Just absurd.

Oprah attending sure pissed people off who are sure that she is the reason some of Harry’s distant cousins weren’t invited.

Serena’s hat was spectacular though nothing tops Camilla’s today.

    • homeslice says:

No, they are there because Amal and MM have recently befriended each other via their hairdresser…

      • The Original G says:

How did George get the dress code wrong? It was Uniform, Morning Coat or Lounge Suit.

      • KBB says:

Wasn’t that just speculation on Lainey’s part? She also said Amal was going to wear Prada to the wedding, though maybe she did to the reception.

    • Felicia says:

I have to ask even though I’m not really sure I want to hear the reasoning but, what doea Oprah have to do with Meghan not inviting her family? From the little I’ve read, they’ve been saying horrible things and attempting to profiteer off of the occasion.

    • minx says:

If Harry wanted to invite distant cousins I don’t see how Oprah prevented that.

    • Chaine says:

I absolutely loved Amal’s look and I’m in shock that it’s Stella McCartney as normally when celebs wear her pieces they look ill-fitting and poorly made. This looks spectacular. Posh is so unbelievably dour and the body language between her and Becks when they were walking in was terrible, he is so over her.

      • Llamas in pajamas says:

Haha. I had the same reaction. Fell in love with the yellow dress at the first glance, spend the next hour trying to comprehend why the dress is amazing when it’s Stella McCartney.

Loved Serena’s dress as well. Just perfect for her body!!!

    • B says:

@blu Ummm, I don’t believe Oprah’s attendance affected other invitations, perhaps you know a great deal more, pray tell…

    • Tulip Garden says:

Amal was stunning! The dress with train in that hard to wear color was a perfect fit. Coupled with the gorgeous hat and enviable hair, Amal was a stand out for me.

Serena Williams looked amazing as well. The dress was sophisticated and really highlighted her fantastic figure. Also, the make up was beautifully understated. I loved how the cameras panned to her during the choir’s Stand By Me and she had her eyes closed. It was a lovely moment of apparently deep feeling.

      • Pandy says:

Agree with both of your comments Tulip. Amal might be an attention hog, but she brought the fashion! Loved Serena’s day and night dresses. I looked at Oprah’s hat and felt sorry for anyone sitting behind her. Bad choice.

  4. Cher says:

    Victoria, was her norm.
Serena, looked lovely, minus that necklace.
    Oprah looked nice.
Idris was his usual handsome self.

  5. ChiChi says:

Amal is the most memorable part of this wedding!

    • Eric says:

      Chichi:
      Memorable? In what way?

The 19-year-old cellist… Now HE was memorable.

      • Liberty says:

        The cellist was brilliant!!!

Amal was obnoxious with her stupid wannabe runway clunk strut down the road.

      • Jayna says:

        Loved, loved, loved the cellist.

      • Tourmaline says:

OMG he was only 19? Wow he was amazing.

      • Anare says:

@liberty “clunk strut” 😂😂😂. I was watching Amal and she looks like she can’t walk in high heels or something. She was doing that at the Met Gala too. No wonder George looks pained. He has to hang on to her so she doesn’t trip while furiously looking to see who is watching her.

      • M.A.F. says:

@Liberty- you nailed down perfectly about what I hated about her walk to the church.

      • Suzanne says:

Amal is pigeon toed…and walks with her feet turned in. It’s VERY noticeable since day one…the first time I saw a photo of her…her feet turn inward when she walks. That can’t be easy with stiletto’s on. She’s back down to skin and bones again…and it makes her look gaunt.

      • Lucy2 says:

        The cellist was amazing.

    • homeslice says:

Memorable as in thirsty as hell. Big bird is all I can see…

  6. Really says:

Thirsty. Whenever the camera spotlighted them she was fluffing out her hair. Imagine how many times she must’ve done that throughout the morning.

    • Godwina says:

I read that as self-conscious in the “lacks self-esteem” way. She’s got a bit of shy gawk to her that she has to constantly push through to do her high-profile work. I know several people like that and that’s how Amal strikes me. Just not smooooooth and and slick and canny like, say, MM. Amal is geeky and fish-out-of-water and her problem with heels just adds to this, IMO.

  7. Eric says:

Someone give canary-Amal some dang bird seed. She looks famished.
Posh Spice had the same expression that the Queen had

    Grumpy

    • Dr Mrs The Monarch says:

There were lots of grumpy faces in the crowd. Tom Hardy looked miserable. Beckham was chewing gum and frowning.

Posh should have brought the rest of the Spice Girls instead of her husband.

      • minx says:

        The Beckhams…just split already.

      • Jayna says:

I don’t believe Beckham was miserable about being there. His big goal in life it seems is to become knighted by the queen like Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger. He’s quite hungry for it. So getting invited to a royal wedding is a coup for him.

      • KBB says:

David Beckham seemed more pumped than anyone to be there when I saw him. I didn’t notice him chewing gum, but I was probably distracted by his neck tattoo and complete disregard for Victoria. He knew they were there together, right?

      • minx says:

        KBB—😂😂.

    • Suzanne says:

Posh ALWAYS looks pissed off. Her resting face is freaking miserable.

  8. tmbg says:

Amal is beautiful. I don’t always love her style but thought she looked great today.

  9. damejudi says:

    Idris all day…

  10. Jayna says:

I watched part of the arrivals and Meghan’s arrival over. Finally some of our guests got up. So I then watched part of it on the big screen TV, not on my laptop with earphones like I did in the morning so as not to wake anyone up. Everyone agreed Amal looked fantastic.

Why did Oprah keep wearing sunglasses inside the church for so long after she arrived? It was strange.

    • Carrie1 says:

Cameras were everywhere apparently. I’m guessing Oprah put shades on to hide who and what she was taking note of via her eyes. Total guess but it’s all I could think of as to why because it is odd.

    • Godwina says:

I had the impression they were photochromic lenses that were “warming up” to clear after a long walk in bright sun. But that could be because I only saw her less than 20 mins after she came in. If they were still dark an hour later, I’m definitely wrong there.

  11. Jayna says:

Nobody can wear a suit like Idris.

    • Liberty says:

Seriously, ten people around me at this party turned and said “Bond” or Shaken not stirred” when we saw him!! Utterly gorgeous in his suit!!!!

  12. Abby says:

I thought Amal looked great and I was surprised it was a Stella McCartney dress. She was a little extra tho. Serena looked gorgeous and I liked Oprah’s outfit.

  13. Carmen says:

Amal looks good in yellow. She wears warm colors well.

Not crazy about Serena’s dress, but she and her husband make a very handsome couple.

  14. Big Bertha says:

Oprah’s dress..I love her, but no. I would have loved to see her in a gray boat neck jacket and skirt with a pill box hat.

    • minx says:

That dress was not Oprah’s usual style. It was a fail..

    • Taxi says:

Oprah’s dress was a last minute pick. The dress she brought to wear was white but yesterday she realized that white would be quite wrong. She called McQueen & Stella put this outfit together for her on very short notice.

      • KBB says:

I believe it was beige but photographed white. She wasn’t ever planning on wearing a white dress.

  15. scottiegal says:

Amal and Countess Spencer were my favorites.

  16. ValiantlyVarnished says:

Loved Amal’s dress and hat – one of my faves. Serena looked great as well

    • kk2 says:

agree. Amal looked fantastic. I loved Serena’s headpiece/fascinator- probably my favorite of the day.

  17. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Posh, I know you hate to smile so thx for wearing yours through your shoes. Yes Amal. We all know you’re pretty and like to dress up. Yes George. We see you too. You rock Serena. I think I love you Idris. Oprah, go home.

    • homeslice says:

Oprah was odd to me…leads me to believe there very well may be an interview in the future.

      • Carrie1 says:

Or maybe she’s there to give company to Doria as they’re similar ages and I noted Oprah came alone…. would be nice comfort for Doria at reception later etc.

  18. Lora says:

Why did amal and george had duch good seats?!

    • homeslice says:

I’m gonna take a guess. MM was an actress, she enjoyed that life, befriending Amal and George makes her feel like a part of the acting scene that she left? IDK. Supposedly they share a hair dresser…and became fast friends. I tend to think MM will feel more comfortable with likes of the celeb set, then the aristocracy? All guesses…
I do think it’s tacky that they had better seats. I mean even if they are friends, it’s not like the friendship has been very long…

      • Liberty says:

Someone here suggests it is like a corporation exec wedding….personal guests and potential business partner or donor/charity guests. I do get that vibe from the guest list.

  19. Melusine says:

Up until I’d never seen any video footage of Amal, only still shots, and I haven’t had much of an opinion of her whatsoever. The fact that she’s a human rights lawyer sat (and sits) well with me, and good for her for bagging George Clooney. Apart from that though I haven’t really cared. And then I saw her arrive at the wedding, and I felt this immediate, visceral dislike. I’m not sure why – something about her body language and facial expressions without a doubt – but I have rarely if ever felt such a strong antipathy simply due to appearance. It’s an immensely weird feeling because I tend to like everyone at first sight. I’m glad I won’t ever be in the same place as Amal, because I would have to leave. Or hide.

That being said I like her outfit. It was well cut, moved nicely, and the color suits her. But I’m going to have to process why I took such an intense dislike to her through an iPad screen, because it is utterly unlike me and I find it quite unsettling. Please someone tell me I’m not alone or I’m going to feel like a psycho.

    • bunichow says:

totally agree with you Melusine. Amal just seems to have this nastiness that oozed off her when i saw her on the telly. its like she just knew where the cameras were and kept primping for them.

That said, most memorable moment was cute little Princess Charlotte waving on the stairs. she looks like a mini version of the Queen. Oh and the look of delight on the pageboy’s face as they entered the church, pure joy

    • Beechie says:

Your comment speaks to me! I feel this same feeling when I see her in pictures. It is a very weird and disconcerting feeling to have about someone you have NEVER met. Makes me feel like a bad person. Maybe I need to hear her voice or something I don’t know. I’m rambling and I don’t like her outfit either it is ill-fitting and the silhouette is unflattering.

    • MrsBump says:

Wow this hatred for Amal is insane! You are right that it makes no sense. Watch a interview of her, she’s been interviewed by the BBC long before George. The intelligence, compassion and poise just shines through.

      • Carrie1 says:

I get same as you. Don’t understand the Amal visceral dislike. But she’s an individualist and not a follower so that may be why

      • Godwina says:

Same. I’ve seen her interviewed and she just comes across as bright, a good listener, likes laughing, and poised but as a cover she works at for her natural nerdiness. She’s also warm in those interviews. I don’t think she’s the bee’s knees . but I don’t get the hate either.

    • Aud says:

@Melusine— me too!! I never had much of an opinion one way or another about Amal until this morning. I was SO turned off by her obvious posturing for the camera. It’s like she was thinking “I’m being filmed!” Every. Single. Second. Even when she was having a conversation she was obviously working her look. Ugh.

    • Kath says:

Yeah me too. It was strange, because I always quite liked her and have seen her being interviewed, but when she bounced down the path I thought “ugh” – I can’t stand this person. Yes, it’s not rational or fair, but I hate narcissism and attention-seekers and that was how she appeared to me.

      • KBB says:

I think what’s off-putting to people is that something about her doesn’t ring true. She doesn’t come across as genuine or authentic, particularly at these types of events/red carpets. It’s not so much a problem when she’s in her own element. I think a lot of the bravado that she gives off is just her trying to cover up insecurity. I think it’s less narcissism and more extreme self-awareness.

Then again, why would she dress like Big Bird if she wasn’t craving the spotlight? She’s a puzzler, that’s for sure.

    • Kat says:

I feel the same way! I actually felt it for the first time when I saw her walk the red carpet at the Met Ball in that hideous outfit (when she could have worn Tom Ford!). She couldn’t walk..George had to hold her up. I just immediately had a dislike for her..never felt that before. Her preening at the wedding was exactly the same and I had the same reaction…..she seems to have become totally narcissistic and conceited.

    • Coconutyoghurt says:

She comes across well in interviews, with a bit less preening, but that’s probably her going into standard lawyer mode when she’s in a one-on-one situation. Not to be nasty but I think one can probably assume her real self is closer to that version when she’s not being interviewed, since all her behaviour to date at film festivals, film premieres, and things like her husband’s tequila parties suggests she’s a narcissist who craves attention. She tries to upstage people who are actually in showbiz every time she’s in public through behaviour and the way she dresses, and she seems to have endless energy for pap walks when she’s on “serious business” like her guest lectures or when speaking at the UN.

It’s funny because George will do interviews and slip in things to retort what’s written about them (IVF twins, not; fake marriage, not; surrogate, not; Amal has weird fashion sense; etc), but they haven’t mentioned anything about her incredible out-there-ness. Her Vogue interview had something about she and her family being great party people; that’s the closest explanation we’ve ever gotten about her out-there-ness. Maybe for her it’s like, “Why not?” but she must realise people are judging her for being emotionally or socially immature when she acts like that. She was so, so, so pose-y and aware of the cameras during the wedding ceremony, not just their walk into the church, it was incredible. (e.g., http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/newpix/2018/05/19/15/4C6DC10100000578-5747613-image-a-191_1526740998914.jpg)

Maybe it’s just her family culture or Lebanese culture (sorry, I know little about Lebanon), but she’s really distinguished herself as being a fame-and-limelight-grabber of sorts.

  20. Mela says:

Amal looked too bright, too LOOK at me. I thought it was way too and bright and in poor taste. This day is about Meghan and Harry …not her and her outfit

Serena is a person who in my minds, it doesnt matter what she wears because she is literally the best female athlete in history. Like she could wear a paper bag for all I care the woman is a LEGEND. She is SO MUCH more than what she wears. That being said her outfit was great and APPROPRIATE

    • Liberty says:

      Serena was beautiful.

      • Mela says:

Yes! She radiates. SHE wears her clothes, the clothes dont ever wear her. And i like that it was a soft color. Serena stands out on her own for who she is not what she wears

I like her hair pulled back too! Her face looked great

        Love her and her husband

    • minx says:

Serena looked wonderful, what a great figure she has. Va voom. I might have dumped that necklace.

      • penguin says:

I just wish Serena had worn her hair loose or a little looser, it would have been a perfect look then

      • Baebae says:

Penguin, Serena has cornrows going into a bun. How does one wear cornrows more loose?

  21. Rebecca says:

Amal looks like The Man in the Yellow Hat from Curious George.

  22. African Sun says:

    Canary-Glam! Loved her look.

  23. SJhere says:

Clooney is even walking/his gait is Old Man these days. He looks rough.
And, as for the Missus, wow, she is seriously attention seeking in all their pics.
She really seems to be married to him so she can be a celebrity. Ugh.

    • sunsetsnow81 says:

I’m beginning to think that too.

    • MerrymerrymonthofMay says:

She CANNOT walk in heels. She should wear a lower heel.

    • Kat says:

He married her because he needs a “legitimate & accomplished” wife because he’s running for office one day soon…….she married him because he’s, well, George Clooney. I liked him so much more when he was hanging with Rande and Cindy. Never see them together anymore. I am sure Amal has made sure of that.

    • lucy2 says:

He does have a lot of back problems, which speaking from experience can really mess up your walking.

  24. The Original G says:

How could Clooney’s grey suit be wrong? That’s exactly what Prince Charles wore.

    • The Hench says:

George was wearing a ‘lounge suit’. Traditional wedding wear for men (especially upmarket ones – and it doesn’t get much more upmarket than a royal wedding) is tails. All the Suits actors had tails on – as did all the royal family. Whilst both George and PC were wearing grey, the rest of their outfits were completely different. And George’s suit was shiny. Very shiny.

      • Godwina says:

The BBC commentators and their royal expert said that the men were told on the official invites to wear lounge suits OR morning suits. Lounge suits were requested as an option.

      • PrincessK says:

        They were not wearing tails.

    • Emmet says:

Didn’t want to comment about Colonel Mustard’s look at me today.

However does GC have an orthodic (sic) device in his right shoe?
It looks like he has a partial crab walk with his right foot turning in.

      Your thoughts???

    • The Original G says:

The initial comment was that George should have worn a dark suit. Clearly, a grey suit was fine since Prince Charles wore one.

NO ONE wore tails. Those are morning suits. Morning suits are not required by protocol unless specifically stipulated in the invitation. The invitation said “Dress Uniform, Morning Suit or Lounge Suit.”

  25. Lolo says:

Amal 100 % wore that dress for attention but also it’s a great dress so…shrug. I thought she looked great. She’s thirsty as hell but it’s a royal wedding with the world watching so who isn’t? I feel like I took crazy pills but I’m just high on all the love, so her dress didn’t bother me.

  26. Prikalop says:

Amal learned the fashion side. Now she needs to acquire class… Not every event is an opportunity to show off – Me Me Me, Look Here… Pretty dress for a garden party, not a wedding. She became a thirsty celebrity more akin to other GC girls.

  27. Snazzy says:

Oprah had to change her dress at the last minute because the one she had planned photographed too white! This was done the night before the wedding! I’d say not bad considering… and very considerate of Oprah. Miss Katie should have taken note

  28. RD says:

Serena looked fantastic. That dress really suited her. Amal looked good from the front but the back of the dress was awful. And the constant hair-extension flicking and looking around for the cameras and clomping around like a horse…good grief she’s over-rated.

  29. Aha says:

    Kitty Spencer was amazing

  30. smee says:

Serena Williams looks fantastic – that dress is fitted perfectly. She has a large chest and this dress works well with “them”. Her husband seems like a great guy too.

Oprah also has a large chest too and that dress is doing nothing for them. The layered bell shape at the bottom is doing her no favors either. O needs to find a stylist who understands what works on her shape, bc that dress isn’t it.

Sorry, but Amal looks stunning. I can’t believe I like a Stella McC dress, but I do! The wrapped around skirt thing, the color, the hat & veil – it’ perfection.

    • Jayna says:

I was ripping on Stella yesterday when I thought Meghan had selected her to make her bridal gown for the wedding. Then Stella goes and pulls this amazing outfit off. And Amal is wearing the hell out of it. I didn’t mind the idea of Stella making the reception gown. I can’t wait to see what Meghan wears for that. I loved Kate’s wedding gown but was not fond of her reception gown.

    • Lucy2 says:

I too thought Serena’s dress was pretty, and Oprah’s just drew too much attention to her chest. It was a pretty dress, but not the right silhouette for her. It’s a problem I know will myself!

The one I can’t get over is Abigail spencer – I kept wondering who was next to Serena during the ceremony, I didn’t recognize her, and her whole outfit look like a weird costume.

  31. Jayna says:

I just noticed how short Serena’s husband’s pants are. What was he thinking?

  32. WendyNerd says:

She’s got the coloring to wear a strong yellow.

    • Carrie1 says:

Yeah I thought the same. Didn’t mind the dress but yellow like that didn’t seem to compliment Amal.

  33. siri says:

I think this yellow is a good colour for her, and I like the dress, but when you choose this for attending a wedding, you want attention. It just screams where’s the camera. And so does Amal, constantly adjusting her hair or hat, even during the ceremony, and scanning the room for lenses. Makes her not just annoying, but very unsympathetic to me.

  34. Bachmangrl says:

I think Amal looked fantastic but by far, the Spencer family killed it today.

I LOVED Lady Kitty Spencer’s Dolce and Gabbana dress with the flowers and Countess Spencer’s purple dress with the capelet was not only original, but looked regal, gorgeous and appropriate. Bonus points for Earl Spencer for wearing a matching tie to match with his wife’s dress.
Kaiser please do a separate post on the Spencers!

  35. Skippy says:

I vote for Amal, Oprah and Idris.

    • Jayna says:

You liked Oprah’s look? I get Amal and Idris. I thought Oprah was a big miss, which surprised me. She’s been a big hit on celebrity red carpets this past year with her outfits.

      • minx says:

Oprah’s dress silhouette was not flattering and it had dippy frou frou detailing. She’s better in a strong tailored look and I think she knew it.

  36. Lilly says:

I feel like the same commenter is making these a million “look at me” comments.
Some of these posts are so redundant.

  37. Lilly says:

Every posts there’s the same exact comments.

  38. liriel says:

I love Amal’s look and Serena’s too. They brougt their A game!

  39. Clairej says:

I thought Anal was wonderful. As for the beautiful colour there were other ladies wearing the same shade. I didn’t personally see her attention seeking. The footage I was watching keep coming back to her and George, who looked happy and chatty and seeking Posh and Becks (especially Becks). So yes Amal was my favourite.

  40. ladida says:

Serena was lovely. Amal needs to chill.

  41. Doop says:

Tom hardy looking utterly over it during the Anglican or whatever version of the lords orayer was awesome as well. Charlotte Riley looked pretty

    • Nicky says:

LOL they both looked stunning! Tom just got back from New Orleans shooting Fonzo, so i quess he must have had a terrible jet lag!

  42. Harryg says:

    Amal looked really pretty.

  43. Greenpear says:

Amal’s usual modus operandi is to upstage everyone, whatever the event is and however irrelevant her contribution to the them is (film festivals, film premieres, wedding, whatever).

She looked good objectively speaking but was overdressed and over the top in her mannerisms as usual. How hard is it for her to just pipe down and stop throwing those godawful, cringeworthy amorous looks at the cameras?!

She is so embarrassing and George was probably trying to be subtle in guiding her not to stop so often and pose.

    • Jayna says:

How was she overdressed? That dress had classic lines and wasn’t tight. She had a big hat, but others had far more look-at-me hats. And everyone had a hat or fascinator on. There is nothing about that outfit that is overdressed when you look at the clean lines of that dress and the material. What makes it pop is the canary yellow. I guess that’s where some could say it was that color saying “look at me.” But then Amal has always worn vivid, bright colors. She loves color. Did she want to stand out? Probably. But I don’t find this dress inappropriate at all. Some wore really tight dresses or dresses I thought were too short.

Others wore really bold colors like Countess Spencer with the Pamella-Roland figure-hugging purple outfit with a capelet I think you call it and tall purple hat. I thought she looked amazing, but it was a bold color with so much purple used and it was a show-stopper outfit. Maybe some didn’t like it. I did. But if Amal had worn this, you would have been saying it was all about her. No one said that about Countess Spencer.

I do agree what is off-putting is the way Amal is so obvious about looking for the camera. It was especially bad this time around going into the wedding. Very obvious. But I have no problem with her outfit.

      • Greenpear says:

You can be overdressed even if you fit the dress code. Technically she’s never overdressed as she makes sure she fits the dress code, but she is overdressed, loud as, and upstaging others. Strutting peacock thanks to colour, huge hat, and stage makeup, etc., and so aware of the cameras.

Contrast with people like Carey Mulligan and Kitty Spencer, who looked great, fit the dress code, and didn’t go over the top.

      • KBB says:

A less recognizable woman wearing a brightly colored dress like that isn’t the same as Amal doing it. I don’t compare her to lesser known royals or royal-adjacent people, I compare her to Priyanka, Oprah, Victoria, Carey, Serena, etc. Her fame combined with her bright dress and big hat was too much. The more famous women all knew to wear muted colors so as not to upstage the bride. I don’t think she actually upstaged the bride, but it seemed like she wanted to.

      • Flash says:

The purple on Countess Spencer was kind of regal and dignified even though her outfit was very worked up; in contrast, the yellow was totally attention seeking. And KBB is right about the level of fame as well.

  44. JRenee says:

I liked Amal’s dress and hat. The color was more mustard yellow than big Bird yellow. Great color and she pulled it off.

  45. Lorelei says:

I think Amal looked amazing and along with Kitty Spencer would probably be at the top my ‘best dressed list’ . Serena was gorgeous as well and the dress fit her to perfection.
And I don’t really get all the comments about Amal ‘upstaging’ the bride. The dress was very elegant, clean cut , appropriate for the occasion and yes, a bold color but it suit her coloring. Also, if you don’t wear your best outfit at a bloody royal wedding, then where would you wear it?

  46. Nayru says:

I thought it was considered poor taste to wear something that makes you the center of attention over the bride be that by wearing white or …. welll this.

    • Greenpear says:

With the makeup, colour, and the hat, it was just too much. Less makeup and get a less attention-seeking hat if you really have to wear that loud colour.

I thought Carey Mulligan was best dressed that day: a “happy” or “cheerful” yet gorgeous dress and she looked really cute next to her husband, who was smartly dressed.

      • siri says:

Agree about Carey Mulligan; she had a good eye for the occassion. Jolly, cheerful, spring wedding. Nothing extraordinary, but elegant enough. Same for her husband; they looked very good together.

  47. Jag says:

    #OprahIsNotMyDreamPresident

Everyone looked great, but I would have rather seen a more subdued color on Amal and a darker color on George.

  48. Shannon says:

I liked Amal’s dress for some other event. It seemed a little too attention-seeking for a wedding though imo
