Alicia Vikander, Michelle Williams & Emma Stone wore Louis Vuitton at the Globes

75th Golden Globe Awards

This post is devoted to the Louis Vuitton ladies, all of whom are under contract with LV and forced to wear various unflattering LV frocks. LV gave their ladies a wide variety of black frocks for the Globes, to varying degrees of success. In Emma Stone and Michelle Williams’ cases, the frocks were successful because no one even mentioned Louis Vuitton on the carpet, because we were too busy talking about other things. In Alicia Vikander’s case… well, she looked like a Victorian ghost from the front. I really dislike this!

I honestly wasn’t sure how the whole “bringing a female activist as your Golden Globes date” thing was going to work out, but I have to say… it worked out really well. Michelle Williams – who wore Louis Vuitton, as part of her contract – came to the Globes as a nominee, and she didn’t bring her BFF Busy Phillips. She brought activist Tarana Burke, the woman who created the #MeToo movement in 2006. She’s the director of Girls for Gender Equality. And Michelle gave her a massive platform last night. On a superficial note, Michelle looked great – she looks amazing when she isn’t doing Civil War Ghost cosplay.

Emma Stone wore Louis Vuitton, because she’s got a LV contract too, and she brought Billie Jean King as her date. I saw Battle of the Sexes and I enjoyed it, and Emma was great in it. Billie really is the star here though – Billie has been fighting for equality as a woman and as a gay woman for decades. She’s perfect.

    I really like Alicia’s dress.

I love Alicia’s dress. It’s something I would buy and be comfortable wearing.

    • lightpurple says:

And while it just looks like a really simple black dress in the pictures, when when she moved, it flowed beautifully.

    • Lizzie says:

i totally agree. she has the lithe frame to pull it off. i like her the best.

    • Hazel says:

I liked it a lot, too. And I’m so glad to see Billie Jean King still fighting the good fight.

  2. roses says:

Glad to see Tarana Burke there!

    • ahoyhoy says:

I’m not sure how many red carpets she’s done, but I think her hair & makeup are so on point. She looks glam but not fussy.

  3. Whoopsy Daisy says:

Emma was one of the best dressed for me. She looks stunning.

I kinda like Alicia, and I prefer Michelle’s victorian ghost looks. This is boring.

I like the ‘Victorian ghost’ look. I really love gowns with sleeves, though.
Michelle’s skin looks like milk. So pretty.
Emma Stone’s makeup just a bit heavy. She’s so naturally fresh-faced, it’s a shame to spackle it over with all that makeup.

  5. Hh says:

Glad Tarana was recognized and brought to the event. It would have been a MAJOR misstep if her presence wasn’t there.

Also, I like Alicia’s dress. I get the Victorian ghost critique, however, she has a tall and slender figure to carry the look off. Also, her coloring helps too.

    • Kit says:

I didn’t see her in action, but these photos of Alicia’s dress make her look short and oddly proportioned. From the neck up she looks lovely

  6. Nicole says:

So glad Michelle was with Tanara. She kept passing her interview back her whenever questions were fielded her way. I thought her and Emma Watson did the best with having activists as their dates.

  7. sus says:

Not a fan of the Victorian ghost look, but it’s better than a lot of her other Vuitton dresses. Also glad the rumors that she was planning on not wearing black were false.
I really like both Michelle and Emma’s dresses (for once).

  8. Eiré says:

It’s worth noting that it was actually Michelle’s idea that the activists be invited. She reached out to Tarana Burke, who then said she would only attend if others were invited as well. Michelle (and her people) then reached out to other actresses, and got the whole thing moving.

She (Williams) also handled the red carpet beautifully. She made every single interview all about Tarana, as it should have been, turned questions and credit over, time and the platform, and made sure Burke and the other women were rightfully recognised and appreciated. Others have said it better, but I will say that as someone who tends to be lukewarm on Williams, I really fell for her last night. She was the epitome of grace, and I admire her a great deal for the way she handled it all. She’s also been talking good talk, and walking that talk proves that she means it, I’d say.

  9. Lucy2 says:

Some of the better LV dresses I’ve seen, but I still don’t like Alicia’s.
Love that Michelle and others brought the activists.

  10. Tanesha86 says:

I’ve always been a fan of Michelle Williams and I truly admire Tarana Burke. THIS is how you act as an ally people!

  11. Jess says:

I loved that some of the women brought activists as dates – it elevated what they were trying to say withe the black dresses a lot. Overall I think last night was a great balance between Some award show fun and some important statements about important issues.

  12. Cait says:

I really love Alicia’s look. *shrugs*

  13. All says:

Really not a fan of half-Asian Emma Stone and her Woody Allen defense squad.

  14. Alexandria says:

Totally agree with the Victorian ghost analysis BUT I think she rocked it and I would wear it. But I think both of us need to stand up straighter while wearing it.

  15. serena says:

Yass to all these amazing women!
I would like to ask Emma Stone a couple of questions though..

  16. Other Renee says:

I don’t like Alicia’s dress at all. Too schoolmarm on the prairie. The rest are slightly better. Happy to see the great Billie Jean King out there. Have been a fan forever.

  17. Mar says:

Alicia and Jessica Beil were my favorites last night
