Mandy Moore is working on her first new music in nine years

It’s almost fall and almost time for the return of one of my favorite shows, NBC’s This is Us. Mandy Moore and her co-stars are in the process of filming new episodes, but we may get even more Mandy in the coming months, as she plans on heading to the recording studio. She released her last album, Amanda Leigh, back in 2009.

The 33-year-old actress, who had quite a few hits in the heyday of the teen pop divas (like Britney, Jessica and Christina), plays an aspiring singer on This is Us. She recently told PEOPLE Magazine that she, like her TV counterpart, wants to spread her wings and share her songs with us, admitting “I want to return to music. I don’t have a record label, but I have a lot of music written. Next year, I’ve decided I’m putting it out there!” She went on to say that she has been composing during her down time while filming her TV series.

Mandy also chatted music with CBS News. When asked if she felt her sound has changed since her pop idol days, she said:

I feel very lucky with my job right now. I get to incorporate music into my work on the show and that lit a fire in me again to go back and rediscover how much I miss music, so I’m hoping one of my goals and one of the adventures I have planned in the next 12 months is to find my way back to music somehow, because I miss being on stage. I miss the rush of adrenaline. I’m not sure how my sound will be different. It will certainly be different from 15-year-old, pop-singing Mandy. That’s not really my cup of tea anymore. I think it will be really reflective of my life right now and the kind of music that I gravitate toward and love.

And, if music and This is Us wasn’t enough, there has been talk of Mandy’s possible appearance in Princess Diaries 3. She has expressed interest in returning as her character Lana, who was the mean girl to Anne Hathaway’s Mia. She told Cosmopolitan she would like to make a quick cameo, adding, “I would like to see this woman evolve. If I’m going to be involved, I would be down for a cameo — maybe she could make amends with Mia and apologize for being a bully when she was younger. She was insecure, going through a difficult time in her life and [has now] reflected on why that wasn’t okay.”

I think it’s exciting that Mandy wants to record some new music. I’ve worn out my Center Stage soundtrack, because I love “I Wanna Be with You.” As long as it doesn’t interfere with This is Us, you do you, Mandy.

She looks so different. But I haven’t seen her in a long time. Does she still have a musical audience.

    • pinetree13 says:

I would not have known that was her in the header picture. Seriously did not recognize her at all.

  2. Nicole says:

The Walk to Remember soundtrack has the best Mandy songs. This doesn’t surprise me because of Tangled and This is Us she’s been doing a lot of singing lately. Hopefully it’s something good!

  3. PoliteTia says:

OMGosh, I forgot about her. This is great news. She looks healthy and well adjusted, love that copper dress

  4. lolo86lf says:

That satin garment fits her nicely but is it a night gown or a regular dress? She looks very healthy and happy.

  5. Mel says:

I have a real soft spot for her. I love the Walk to Remember soundtrack! I also love another album that she made but that didn’t really get all the attention it deserved (I think): Wild Hope. I looove the song “can’t you just adore her”. I say yeah to more music!

  6. Lucy2 says:

I always liked her, nice to see her career having a resurgence.
So many people LOVE This is Us… I thought it was OK but nothing spectacular.

  7. Kristen says:

That hair! Who let her walk out of the house like that?

  8. Gailly says:

Does she annoy the crap out of anyone else? (Looking for solidarity so I don’t seem like a giant betch! :D )

    • minx says:

She annoys me sometimes on This Is Us because I think she is the weakest actor out of that great cast. I’m always aware that she is acting.

    • lobstah says:

Yes!!! I tried to watch This is Us, but she ruined it. I think it’s her voice.

      • Gailly says:

Her voice plays a big part in my annoyance/dislike! There is nothing worse than a full grown woman who speaks in a baby voice. (Okay, there’s like a lot worse things, but whatever.)

  9. Amanda says:

The heavy eyebrows age and masculinize her face. This trend isn’t for everybody. Seen Adrianne curry lately (if you know who she is)? She’s also trying the heavy brow trend and it looks awful… it does the same thing. Age and masculinize.

    • GiBee says:

Interesting you’d say that. I think in general a fuller brow helps most people look younger – including (IMO) Mandy.
Won’t touch the “masculinize” part of your comment…

    • minx says:

I agree that the trend isn’t for everyone. My teenage daughter has deepset eyes and her father’s thicker eyebrows, and she looks much prettier with more of an arch. When she gets them waxed it changes her whole face for the better…you wouldn’t think it makes that much difference, but it does.

    • senna says:

Was just going to comment that I love the heavy brow on her – I’m getting Lena Headey vibes! I think it’s just that she looks SO different with a darker brow, not like OG Mandy Moore at all but like a different person. Usually younger people have fuller, darker brows, and it’s more that an older person can look washed out with a super heavy brow vs using a shade that complements their skin and hair. Yes, oftentimes men have heavier brows, but I don’t think Mandy looks hypermasculinized here – I mean, does Cara Delevingne look manly to you? It seems like a bit of a ridiculous critique IMHO.

      • idontknowyouyoudontknowme says:

A woman with 1-2 “masculinized” features dos not mean that she looks like a man, and its not an insult imo, since androgynous beauty has usually been preferred in the past few centuries. Cara does look androgynous to my eyes, but it doesn’t mean she is not beautiful..anyhow I think the full eyebrows as a trend does not flatter everybody, on a less angular face with fine features it looks out of place somehow. Ultra plucked thin ones are probably the ones which flatter no one, but honestly I think shape is more important than the thickness.

    Oh Christ, please don’t.

    • Naddie says:

LOL. I want her to make it if it makes her happy, but just for this reason alone. She’s always been one of the many annoying 90s teens trying to be sexy/cute.

  11. Adele Dazeem says:

I love her! She also did an album of covers (I think it was called Coverage) back in the early 2000s and I loved it, she did Elton John, Joni Mitchell and was surprisingly good!

  12. Happy21 says:

Does she have a knack for writing songs? I never really listened to her music but I always thought she was cute and never had to show off her body to be popular (hence the reason she probably wasn’t as popular as Christina, Brit-Brit and Jessica).
That being said, if she can actually write a song, she may have a lot to say. She’s been through marriage and divorce since so she may just have something to say.

    • Paleokifaru says:

Wild Hope was a great album on the heels of her breakup with Zach Braff. I’d imagine she’s only gotten better with more life experiences.

  13. aenflex says:

I do like her. Glad she’s stayed busy all these years.
