Halle Berry in Versace at the VF Oscar party: super-fun or just silly?

2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Graydon Carter

Yes, as I said yesterday, I’m very into Halle Berry’s Oscar hair. Maybe it’s a wig, maybe she just spent hours getting her hair to look like this, whatever it is, I don’t care. I love it. I love that she went big and crazy and I love the way it looks around her face. It’s amazing. Halle had the same hair at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, only she switched up her Versace dresses. I loved her Oscar Versace and I really like this fun little cocktail Versace. She’s really killing it these days.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also wore Versace, and she walked the VF carpet with her man, Jason Statham, and a prominent baby bump. Rosie is glowing. So pretty!

Kate Hudson in Cavalli Couture. She’s done something different to her face, right? I’m not just imagining that? Anyway, I don’t have strong feelings about this Cavalli – it was beige/neutral and that was the trend this year. The design sucks though. It looks like she’s wearing an apron made out of pantyhose.

2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Viewing Party

Scarlett Johansson wore another Azzedine Alaïa dress for the VF party – this, to me, feels like her “ScarJo: After Dark” look. I don’t like it.

Dakota Johnson in Gucci. Yet another example of someone saving the better dress for the after-parties. Dakota had no business in that sad Oscar dress – she should have worn this to the Oscars instead.

    Rosie looked great!

But what has Kate done to her face?

    • Babs says:

She looks like Paris Jackson and not in a good way.
ScarJo looks different too, right? I can’t put my finger on it.

    • Redgrl says:

Kate messed around with fake boobs & frozen face but her ears still stick out. Go figure. If she weren’t Goldie Hawn’s daughter the movie biz would just see her as another mousy blonde (like Gwyneth & her nepotism). Nasty, I know, going to have coffee now.

    • shelley* says:

I’m looking at Kate, then the Meryl Streep wax work, then back to Kate, wax work, Kate, wax work….etc.

      Its not easy to distinguish.

    • Chaucer says:

She has the “kill the batman” smile going on. Chin and cheeks, and her bad nose job and makeup highlights it.

I don’t think ScarJo messed with her face like some people are saying. She’s always looked mousy and the weight loss and severe hair cut accentuates that.

    • KiddVicious says:

Kate had her nose thinned a few years ago, it made her face look really wide and flat. Maybe she has new cheeks? Something is different. And she’s smiling with Goldie’s crooked smile. It’s cute.

      • minx says:

She had a very wide nose when she was young and then got it done, and I think she’s had it done at least one more time, if not more.

    • deevia says:

Kate Hudson looks like Ursula in the face.

    • Diane says:

What a gorgeous couple they make.

  2. Babs says:

I love Halle Berry’s outfit and style. Gorgeous and fun.
Rosie’s dress is beautiful but seems too tight to me. Her poor boobs.

    • Sarah says:

Has Halle had work done on her face? Jeez, she is a few years younger than i am and makes me want to go hide in my closet. And I’m not ugly! She is amazing. Damn!

    • LoveShoes says:

Halle always looks stunning to me. She is incredibly beautiful and stylish. I don’t think she will ever look her age. She always stands out as a stunning and stylish woman.
Kate on the other hand looks awful in this dress that looks like it wasn’t finished. And yes, there is something up with her face.

  3. Almondjoy says:

Halle’s hair again.. I’m itching to just pluck out the curls with some Cantu curl butter and a little Eco Styler. Then I would snip the top left and bottom right to shape it 😩 This would solve the problem.

    Rosie looks so gorgeous.

    • Ramona says:

I know you are trying to be funny with the Cantu and Eco Styler but can we as black women stop policing each others hair like this. I was silent in yesterdays comments but it was pretty clear that most people loved her hair and the sniping was coming from black women. I’m sorry but I’m genuinely starting to feel some type of way about this.

      • Almondjoy says:

Nope I wasn’t trying to be funny I’m dead serious, especially because that is EXACTLY what I put in my fro every morning. I also shape it just like I want to do to Halle’s hair.

Now if you wanna talk about how people need to stop calling big hair/curly hair/Afro hair crazy then I can agree with you. I’ve said that many times here before. But as a natural hair enthusiast and a former hair stylist my opinion still stands that her hair needs better styling.

      • Luca76 says:

Thanks Ramona it’s really awful how hard we are on eachother.

      • minx says:

I’m as white as they come and I loved her hair!

      • Ramona says:

I didnt type my comment lightly. I have lurked here for many years and I have seen AlmondJoy write very intelligently on the politics of black hair. But sometimes even the best among us needs a little gentle steering. Thats how my comment was intended and I stand by it. Halle rocked this look. She wasnt going for an overmanicured fro, she was going for fun low maintenance party girl and she killed it.

      • naughtycorner says:

@Ramona I am a Bw who is also natural and I m sorry I am with @Almond Joy with this one, whilst I understand that sometimes critiquing of black hair is racial esp with certain adjectives used but no not everything is racial.White women critique other white women here ALL the time for being over bleached , damaged poorstyled etc. I love to see naturalistas slaying it on the red carpet i.e Teyonah Paris but sorry this was not it , IMO her hair was not properly styled and I would hate to see Black women become so fragile that every critique even those as carefully worded as @ Almond Joys it is automatically ruled ” racial ”

PS on a another forum her hair stylist confirmed it was a wig and judging by his SM he seems to hardly do black hair which isn’t surprising

    • velourazure says:

100% agree with you Almondjoy. Calling out bad styling does not have to be racial people.

    • Den says:

Only like three people here are complaining about her hair. Its definitely a hit. Maybe you should stop wasting money on those products and just start styling your hair like hers. I love it.

      • Almondjoy says:

Using moisturizer on my very dry hair isn’t a waste, it’s necessary… if I didn’t it would fall out. And if you read my comment you’d know that I do wear my hair like Halle’s… it’s just shaped…

      • Den says:

But her hair isnt dry and the shape was absolutely perfect for her look and her face. If her hair. shape is “wrong”, then she should never be “right”. You’ll hate this but I’ve read what Ramona said about black women being overly self critical about hair many many times, this may be one of those times. She looks gorgeous, theres nothing to hate here.

      • Goldie says:

Black women can sometimes be overly critical of each other’s hair. I remember all the grief that poor Gabby Douglass got about her hair in the 2012 olympics, and sadly most of it was coming from from other black women.
In this case though, I don’t even necessarily agree that the majority of the criticism was coming from black women. At least on this site, I saw a lot of comments from white people. Secondly, I don’t think the negative comments from black women were coming from a hateful place. They were just offering some constructive criticism, just as white women often critique white celebrity’s clothing, makeup, hair etc.
Personally, I thought Halle’s hair looked fine. It wasn’t perfect, but it wasn’t as bad as some people made it out to be. So I guess I can see both sides.
        Just my two cents.

      • velourazure says:

How do you discern which comments are from white vs black people?

    • QQ says:

LOL White ladies are telling Black Girls what hair looks good on them and even as the girls know what they are seeing and kindly calling it out ( cause This is Bad Style, point blank) some of yall not familiar with hair of texture are in wonder about this but what this looks like to me? Is a Poorly Applied Wig, there is a reason we are laughing on twitter calling it Whitney’s Old wig Is because the placement of the volume of the bulk of her hair looks UNNATURAL, it’s too high and forward and this is a woman of delicate features thus it bogs her down, No one is “policing” her hair, telling her she can’t do it, we are just in a gossip site discussing that her hair looks unfortunate. Just cause we are black doesn’t mean we can’t gossip , no one comes and collects any of the white women here when they are RIGHTLY laughing at the sad hair on Gwynneth Paltrow FFS

      • dappadaph says:

True QQ…Her hair reminded me of Wigs by Dianne Carroll ads in the back of JET and EBONY that I used to see in the ’80s. It’s just a unfortunate ‘do.

      • slowsnow says:

Bless you QQ. It’s such a pity when we turn on each other pretending to accuse someone else of turning on women…
I was really interested, as a white woman, to read @almondjoy’s comments because it also looked like potentially beautiful big amazing hair only poorly shaped but of course what do I know.
Something us white women can’t have but can still see. I see Solange’s hair and I see Halle and I can tell the difference only I cannot explain for the life of me.
Yes, poorly shaped wig. There’s nothing wrong with calling it out and explaining how to do a proper big afro hair.

      • dj says:

@ QQ you said it very well. I hope I don’t get attacked but I am white and always wanted a head of curly hair. IMO QQ is on the money. Halle is so beautiful but this wig completely overwhelms her diminutive frame. HB is one of my husband’s top 5 and I had to explain to him who it was.

    • Almondjoy says:

QQ, Naughty, Velour, Slowsnow: Thank you for understanding what I’m trying to say and also for not putting negative words into my mouth. Nowhere did I say I hated Halle’s hair. I never shamed her. I simply gave styling tips. Curly hair is my thing and I’m not backing down from what I said.

      • Namm says:

Im black and also understood where you were coming from. No negativity as far as I ‘m concerned. Long hair and those wigs that she’s been wearing lately doesn’t fit her features. She should stick with different “short” haircuts.

Any black woman can tell that, that’s an unfit wig for her. Her stylist must be white (no offence to white people, so please forgive me)…

  4. teacakes says:

Love Halle’s dress and hair here – she appeals to my inner disco fiend and looks ready to party.

Scarjo’s party hair >>>>>>>>> her Oscars hair.

Also re her Oscars dress, how do you manage to wear Alaia – of all the designers! – and have it be so lazy and sloppy and badly fitted? What happened to the King of Cling?

  5. Aiobhan Targaryen says:

I actually like everyone’s looks here.

Kate is starting to look more and more like her mom. I don’t know if she had something done or she lost weight or both.

  6. lannisterforever says:

Rosie honestly made me gasp out loud. Oh how I wish I’ll look even half as glowing as her when I’m pregnant!

  7. shelley* says:

Scarlett looks like she’s had an inch or two shaved off her jawline..

I really love the look Halle Berry has going on, that hair is to die for, she makes me want to chuck away my straighteners and embrace my inner curly diva.

  8. Shambles says:

Halle’s dress is, once again, amazing. It’s like she went with a shimmery, starry-night theme for the Oscars and the after party. My opinion from yesterday still stands. The hair is overwhelming her face and distracting from a great outfit.

It’s really amazing what a difference not wearing the color of my cat’s Trump this morning makes for Dakota Johnson. She looks like an entirely different person than she did in that monstrosity she wore to the Oscars. Black is her color. She positively glows.

    Scarlett’s hair looks better.

  9. Elisa the I. says:

Halle Berry is one beautiful woman. She gives me Tina Turner vibes in that dress. Her LEGS! And she looks like she is having fun and has no f*cks to give. Awesome.

  10. Alexandria says:

Rosie is such a goddess. Bet that was the dress Kate wanted to wear.

  11. Wilma says:

Minority opinion, but to me Rosie looks like a blow up doll. Her face looks plastic to me.

    • TrixC says:

Me too, and her neck freaks me out. Now that I’ve noticed it I can’t unsee it.

    • sunshine gold says:

Not that minority of an opinion because I agree too…she’s probably gorgeous au natural, but she looks weird all gussied up.

  12. lucy2 says:

I love Halle’s look! Her Oscar gown was great too, but her hairstyle works so much better with this dress.
Hate the sheer thigh area on Kate Hudson’s.

  13. grabbyhands says:

Kate Hudson’s gown is a nightmare. It looks like the lower middle part was accidentally tore off and is now what is laying on the ground behind her. And that makeup. I don’t get it.

Dakota’s gown would have been better as a more fitted black gown-that enormous peach sash isn’t complimentary at all.

  14. Mia4S says:

Oh thank a God, Kate Hudson was there! I was so worried! You can’t have the opening of an envelope without Kate Hudson! 😏

  15. HK9 says:

I like Halle’s dress. It’s not try hard and can I just say that her legs are amazing!!

  16. Khymera says:

    Kate’s nose looks different .

  17. crazydaisy says:

Kate Hudson is morphing into Sharon Stone. ScarJo is morphing into Trudie Styler. Why is this happening?!

  18. NeoCleo says:

The first two ladies look wonderful. I love Halle’s hair. Rosie is one gorgeous pregnant lady.

I just can’t warm up to Kate Hudson OR Dakota Johnson. Maybe I need to see Johnson in something other than that trilogy she’s in with Dornan. Hudson should cover up those ears.

  19. Rae says:

I still can’t get over how bad Dakota’s dress was for the main event.

Please tell me she got paid $$$$ to wear it, as there is no other excuse for that monstrosity of shiny shit (bar certified blindness).

She would have done so much better wearing this dress, but she needs to learn what to do with her hair.

  20. Happy21 says:

    Rosie looks lovely
Halle’s dress is HOT but I don’t know about her hair. I kinda like it and I kinda don’t. I like the color, the idea of it but I just don’t know.
    Everyone else, nope!

  21. susiecue says:

    I think it’s Kate’s makeup.
ScarJo looks strung out in that pic.
Dakota’s dress is better, but still ugly because BOW.
I like Halle’s hair too. I can’t stop staring at it. I want to flounce it.

  22. KiddVicious says:

I love Halle’s hair but I didn’t like it with her Oscar dress, it seemed to over-power the dress. But I think it looks amazing with this one. I like her dress and shoes.

I don’t like the color of Kate’s dress, it looks like it was great-grandma’s wedding dress pulled from the dirty attic. That color would be good on a smooth fabric, but on lace, tulle, textured, it just looks dirty. The style of the dress looks good on her, though.

  23. Joannie says:

    Halle is hot!

  24. Katebush says:

I love me some wild crazy hair (see my moniker) but Halles looked lopsided at the Oscars. I like it better in these photos I think this dress compliments it better.

  25. bella says:

Halle and Rosie look gorgeous!!! I want both dresses! I would seriously wear Halle’s somewhere-anywhere! Love it! Kate had another nose job. It looks like a pin.

  26. blairski says:

Not only is Dakota’s dress better for the after-party, so is her styling.

Why do they make these choices?

  27. Diane says:

Halle looks like a cocktail waitress at Caesar’s Palace.

  28. T-Rasha says:

Halle. Looks horrible here. Wasted? Tired? And yes, that’s a wig baby.

  29. Anonymous says:

Gah, Kate Hudson bugs me. I swear all she does anymore is go to parties and exercise. She just seems so content with mediocrity. She’s never had to work hard a day in her life, and clearly didn’t know how to take what she was given (privilege, nepotism and the kind of looks that Hollywood powers love) and focus that into becoming a really great actress. There are so many amazing actors out there just looking for the opportunities Kate’s been given.

  30. Van says:

More important what is going on with Halle’s eyes?
