Marion Cotillard’s burgundy lipstick at ‘Assassin’s’ premiere: on-trend or dated?

Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender have been promoting Assassin’s Creed all over the place for weeks now. They did a full European tour, and they’re now in New York. These photos are from last night’s New York premiere. I do have to say… just stylistically and just as far as sexiness goes, I enjoy Marion plus Fassy much more than Fassy plus Alicia Vikander. Fassy and Marion actually look like they enjoy each other’s company, that they go out to dinner on a regular basis and talk sh-t about the people they know. He seems to have a little crush on her, although they both claim that their relationship is more brother-sister than anything else.

While I tend to give pregnant ladies passes on fashion mistakes, Marion’s fashion tour has had some notable disasters, and I wondered if she had pissed off a stylist or something. She’s also been wearing fewer Dior frocks, although I think that’s probably because Dior doesn’t want to make a bunch of maternity clothes for her, even if she is one of the faces of the label. All that being said, I don’t hate what she’s wearing here. I don’t have an ID on the dress, but her little coat/cape is Andrew Gn and if you look closely, it strongly resembles a Christmas tree skirt. ‘Tis the season! I love the combination of midnight blue/purple and black though – it’s one of my favorite combos.

What really struck me about these photos was Marion’s lipstick choice. Granted, I’m not a makeup person, but I associate this kind of deep, dark burgundy lip with “the goth years” and the 1990s. I realize everything ‘90s is new again and there’s a major revival for the sh-t I wore as a teenager. But I just feel like this look is dated, and it doesn’t really suit her. She’s beautiful of course and she can pull off almost everything. But this lipstick is a no for me!

I think maybe the lipstick would work better if she had just a touch more eye makeup on, for balance? She can pull off anything though.

Fassy did air guitar on Fallon last night and he was very good at it.

Ladies having babies will always get a fashion pass from me.
Love the shade of the lipstick.

  2. QQ says:

idk Compared to her previous outings for premieres and whatnot this is downright amazing and flattering

She does kind of look like a vampire queen in that last picture. Which is kind of awesome, haha.

I’m still surprised they stuck with that weird, convoluted mess of a storyline in its entirety. Even AC fans complained about it. I’m curious to see how they do it in the movie. Maybe.

Fassy has been looking good! He’s also been very game on promotion so good for him…,

The Rogue One reviews are out and they’re good (really good). This movie is going to get slaughtered. Second choice after Rogue One will probably be Passengers. So…yikes. I really don’t get the timing of the Assassins’ Creed release.

    • Abigail says:

The reviews for Rogue One aren’t that great, and you couldn’t pay me to sit through Passengers. But I agree with you. Fox really blew it on the release date for this film.

Dated. I used to wear this color, but it was really too dark, I’m fair like Marion. I’m so over this 90s stuff coming back

  6. Yeahright says:

Marion’s style has always been tragic but this is a 10 compared to what she’s been given on this tour. Christmas skirt indeed!
    Fass looks hot again! Finally!
Lets hope AV and him have finished the farce.
I can’t wait for Assassin’s Creed and plan on being first in line.
    It looks epic!

    Too dark for her coloring.

    • Jane Fr says:

I never wore it in the 90′ but I bought one this year, the very beautiful and irresistible Rouge Noir n°109 from Chanel.
      Maybe it’s a french thing ?

    • detritus says:

Too brown for her colouring, imo.

      The capelet though, that’s covetable.

  8. Locke Lamora says:

Dark lipsticks have beem everywhere tje past couple of years. I like the lipstick, but the cape is ugly.

    • detritus says:

      lol, we are opposites today.
Hate the lip, love the cape.
I do like a bold lip, but the colour doesn’t work for me here.

this colo ris on trend just came in my ipsy bag and I have been seeing it everywhere in Northern California anyway

He’s so comfortable, happy and relaxed with her. I think it’s a crush and a bit of awe of her beauty AND mad acting skillz. Quite right too, because she’s amazing. Shame they aren’t together IRL because they look incredible.

  11. Sage says:

Fassy looks so darn old! His earlobes are growing by the day.

He was hilarious on Fallon the other night.

  12. Rocío says:

I think she looks amazing. Great dress and cape. Her style is hit or miss but never boring. They make a nice “working” couple. They are like the European sophisticated version of Ryan Gosling (spelling?) and Emma Stone.

What is with the release dates 3 big movies on the same day? This year has been like a movie graveyard! For months on end there is nothing out that is remotely interesting and then, finally, 3 big movies on the same day released! What nimrod is in charge of the release dates? It is obvious to me that it must be some kind of a pis*ing contest between men and studios. They wonder why people stay home and stream movies! Rant over!
