Alec Baldwin & Kate McKinnon spar as Trump & HRC in SNL’s final debate skit

SNL2

Saturday Night Live has the same problem with Donald Trump that they had with Sarah Palin: the truth is far stranger than any spoof could be. For those of us who watched the third debate, seeing the real Trump say “bad hombres” and “such a nasty woman” was shocking and appalling in real time, and already spoof-ready. They ended up phoning it in one of the funniest moments of the real debate, which was when Trump started shrieking “NO PUPPET, NO PUPPET, YOU’RE THE PUPPET.” Tom Hanks hosted last night’s episode, and in the debate cold open skit, Hanks played Chris Wallace. Here you go:

Kate McKinnon continues to kill it as HRC. I think Alec Baldwin is doing a great job as Trump, but I do feel like the SNL writers are making Trump into too much of a lovable, relatable oaf. We’ll see – only two more weekends of political stuff (hopefully).

Also, the Black Jeopardy skit was maybe the funniest bit Saturday Night Live has done in years. Tom Hanks as a Donald Trump supporter on Black Jeopardy could have gone off the rails but it ended up being just flat-out hilarious.

“She can brag about her resume but I’m the one who’s got all the heavy hitters supporting me,” Trump (Baldwin) argued. “I mean, I have got the cream of the crop. I’ve got Sarah Palin. I’ve got Chachi. Get this, I’ve even got the best Baldwin brother, Stephen Baldwin.”

    Hahahahahah!

    • Christin says:

I thought that was one of the funniest lines, too.

Curious how his brother reacted (if he’s as thin-skinned as the one he supports).

  2. JenE says:

That Black Jeopardy skit hit every note right.

‘We’ll just play the national anthem and see what happens.’ = A+

  3. Melly says:

    Nasty women 💗 45!
The only think I’ll miss from this election is Alec Baldwin’s Trump.

  4. Jane says:

I was hoping they would have done a skit about the Al Smith dinner. They could have treated it like a school cafeteria situation and perhaps have a food fight. I think the debate skit had only a couple chuckles for me.

    • Jayna says:

I agree. The first two debate skits were hilarious. This third one was just cute. Although, there were a couple of really good moments in it. They needed to add on the Alfred Smith dinner.

    • lightpurple says:

The third debate skit was a bit flat although they seemed to really rely on the actual transcript for most of it. The bad hombres and nasty woman bit really can’t be topped; they were so outrageous and hilarious on their own; a parody of a debate in its own right.

I would have loved to see them do something with the Al Smith dinner because there was so much there ripe for parody.

  5. Eve says:

Alec Baldwin’s impersonation of Trump is so close to the real thing it’s scary.

  6. LiterallyaShambles says:

“I’ve won every single poll… taken outside of a Cracker Barrel.”

Lmao. But also sadly true. This one lady posted a link on twitter and said, “The REAL poll results the media doesn’t want you to see!! Donald Trump is leading by 79% *out of 50,000 people*!!”

I couldn’t believe she was actually serious at first. I guess those 50,000 were all at Cracker Barrel.

  7. Donna says:

I laughed out loud with Tom Hanks’ response to everyone laughing at Alec’s Trump saying he respects women: “settle down….entire planet.” Haha

    • Karina says:

A very close second is Trump’s saying to a reporter, ““I am the least racist person you’ve ever met.”

      (The entire planet laughs…again!)

He did not respond to the reporter about the allegations of sexual assault.

    • susiecue says:

You know when I was watching the debate I didn’t even realize the audience laughed because I LAUGHED SO LOUD

  8. MellyMel says:

I hope Donald Trump loses the election. I also hope Donald Trump loses the election & then Alec Baldwin gets nominated and wins an Emmy for his 100% accurate portrayal of Donald Trump. I can see the twitter tantrum now!

    • Tiffany says:

Both are a guarantee. Baldwin can get his acceptance speech together now.

    • PaschaP says:

Lol and then a year or two after the Emmy win for his work on SNL… HBO makes another political drama based on the 2016 election (like they did with Sarah Palin/Julianne Moore and ‘Game Change’), Baldwin is cast as Drumpf, and wins another Emmy.

    • Jane says:

Of course Trump would scream, “The Emmy Awards were rigged! Baldwin shouldn’t get it!”

  9. Sam says:

I don’t think SNL is going easy on Trump. He doesn’t seem relatable in one bit to me. Baldwin has him looking like the big dumb racist idiot that he is just in a comedic way which is the point of SNL. Also Baldwin’s impersonation is so good I couldn’t tell you the difference between Baldwin and Trump at this point.

    • Seán says:

Yeah, I don’t think there going easy on Trump at all! They’ve constantly ribbed him on his attitude towards women, other races and what a massive, thin-skinned buffoon he is. Meanwhile, Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton is pretty damn loveable. Obviously, there not going to delve into darker aspects. It’s SNL…a light comedy show!

    • Veronica says:

Yeah, I can handle this portrayal because they aren’t glossing over the racism and sexism. He might come across as funny, but only because the mockery is that he ever got this far in the first place.

  10. Karina says:

I look forward to seeing the SNL skits after the election on November 8th. Total tangerine meltdown!

  11. Tiffany :) says:

I listened to the first half of the last debate on the radio, and I kept thinking I was listening to Alec Baldwin. Especially the “Wrong!!!” bit. He’s just perfect.

  12. L says:

    David S. Pumpkins. 😂

  13. Amanda G says:

I didn’t find the Black Jeopardy skit as amusing as everyone else.

The 3rd debate skitch fell kind of flat. I don’t think Kate is amazing at Hillary (too slap stick), but I do think Alec is amazing at playing Trump! The Baldwin joke was great!

  14. Lorelai says:

    Kate McKinnon is amazingly talented.

Who else could do such dead-on portrayals of both Hillary Clinton AND Justin Bieber?

I hope she wins all the awards.
