George & Amal Clooney apparently bought a hyper-modern NYC apartment

When you think of George Clooney, where do you think of him? I think of him as Mr. Hollywood, Mr. Los Angeles, and then secondarily I think of him at Lake Como, Italy. I’ve never really associated him with New York, because I think he’s only lived in New York a few months at a time for work. But his wife has lived in New York – before they ever met, Amal lived and worked in New York for a year or two, I think. She has good friends in New York, she has a lot of job opportunities there (teaching and working at the United Nations) and she seems to be more of a New York/London person. So, long story short, I guess George and Amal are moving to New York?

George Clooney and wife Amal have bought permanent digs in New York — sources exclusively tell Page Six — at luxury apartment building One Hundred East Fifty Third Street. The skyscraper from developer Aby Rosen and starchitect Norman Foster’s Foster + Partners is expected to be completed next year.

A source told us, “The high-profile couple did not purchase the penthouse, but instead opted for a high-floor residence in the upcoming building.” The two-floor penthouse in the condo building, with 94 units, is going for $65 million.

Among active listings at the building, the next highest-floor apartment for sale is a 49th floor, 3,385-square-foot, full-floor apartment for $14.75 million — which includes three bedrooms and 3 ¹/₂ bathrooms, direct elevator access, “a grand entry gallery” and a “spacious great room with dramatic northern, western and eastern exposures” with “floor-to-ceiling windows and nearly 11-foot ceilings.” That unit also includes a “private corner master bedroom suite with southern and eastern exposures . . . with a grand dressing room and a tranquil five-fixture en suite bathroom with sweeping city views.” Apartments at the building start at $2.6 million.

A source said the couple opted for the building because of its design and amenities, and because it is close to the United Nations for Amal, a renowned human-rights lawyer, who is also teaching at Columbia Law School.

French chef Joël Robuchon is occupying the first two levels of the building with a gourmet marketplace and a fine-dining restaurant. The building also includes “hotel-like amenities,” including “a wellness facility, 60-foot sunlit swimming pool, sauna and steam room, yoga and pilates rooms” and a library.

Clooney — who usually stays at the Carlyle when he’s in town — and his pal and partner in Casamigos Tequila, Rande Gerber, sold their twin Mexican villas this year. Clooney also owns a Studio City, Calif., home, a Lake Como, Italy, retreat and a 17th-century mansion in England with Amal. A rep for Clooney didn’t get back to us.

[From Page Six]

If that read as an advertisement for the building, that’s because it probably was. Doesn’t mean it’s true… or false. I would be willing to bet that George and Amal do want a place in New York, mostly for her work, because she doesn’t want to live out of a hotel. But I’m not sure if they’re scooping up a property that sounds hyper-modern – you can see more about the building here. That doesn’t seem like either of their tastes. It sounds like Brad Pitt’s architectural taste. George probably wanted an apartment at one of the historical buildings, like the Dakota. In any case, I bet George will spend as much time at this apartment as he spends in their completely refurbished English mansion. Which is to say, barely any time at all.

    Sounds like a gorgeous apartment.

It really does. I know some people on here don’t like them but I would love to be their neighbour :)

    • Carmen says:

Location, location, location. It’s perfect. It’s smack-dab in the middle of everything.

  2. Dippit says:

Whatever, it’ll be a move calculated to have a political benefit for one or both of them. This whole marriage is about positioning for power.

    • Alexi says:

Amal and gold digger Hilaria will be hanging out soon.

      • OhHellNo! says:

I really hope this is true and they decide to settle permanently in the USA leaving my beloved UK free of them. :-)
In the article where it stated ‘where’, I substituted for ‘who’ and you get hypocrites, liars, puppets of Soros, not a top human rights barrister at all. He is a has been actor who will do anything to get press nowadays and she is the biggest famehoe walking and a junior barrister, It really irks me that they are still trying to push her as a top barrister. I also believe this would be a political move for them, she is certainly never going to get far in the UK and if you read the UK posts about him, well people here just don’t like or trust him, he is basically a laughing stock here and I’m guessing he doesn’t like that one little bit! So don’t let the door hit you on the way out George!

OhHellNo, completly agree, these two are the biggest hypocrites ever, and the marriage is a complete setup from start to finish.

        Wow! Meow……

    • Lori says:

Really, this proposed apartment building is so sterile, much like the alleged underlying business transaction that led to this pairing.

Oh, and our “top barrister” is doing a heckuva job at the UN, if this article is any indication….

      • Nimbolicious says:

Utterly unsurprised by her behavior. She’s probably angling for a reality TV gig to showcase her unicorn-ness for the few of us who haven’t already had it shoved down our throats ad nauseam.

“The two-floor penthouse is going for $65 million” I can’t even wrap my head around that!

    • LAK says:

That’s cheap. There is a building in London whose single floor penthouse sold for £140M and another bog standard flat a few blocks away from that flat is currently on sale for £150M unrefurbished!!!

    • Tris Farnon says:

      “western and eastern exposures”
$14 mil and not even a south-facing window?

  4. Alix says:

So, when you have all these homes, do you keep complete wardrobes at each one? How do you remember what you’ve got where?

    • Nimbolicious says:

That’s what personal assistants and stylists are for. Plus I’m sure there’s a whole Excel spreadsheet somewhere detailing what she’s worn and when. Totally calculated just like she is.

  5. HarajukuBarbie says:

Is it just me or does her face look not quite as sharp and angular. Did she perhaps get filler. She still looks 6ft tall and about 100 pounds so not weight gain.

  6. HarajukuBarbie says:

I know people complain a lot about talking about her weight so much. It’s hard for me because seeing her always reminds me of my sister at her lowest weight from anorexia. I find her painful to look at at times.

  7. Sage says:

They are the new Brad and Angelina v2.0. New and improved.

  8. Frosty says:

Amal looks great in that first picture – love that dress on her.

  9. Soni says:

It’s a weird area for them. I live in Manhattan and have lived a few blocks away from their. Close to the UN but it’s a very commercial area. Not very pretty. Apartments look great though!

  10. Mieke says:

Is it just me or do they look like brother and sister? Look at pictures of him when he was younger. Maybe that’s why I like them together. Odd couple, but a good match.
