Kate Upton admits defeat, returns to modeling after trying out actress-ing

Kate Upton was a really big deal a few years back. Like, 2012-13, she was the “It Model” and everyone had to have an opinion on her. Then she was replaced, and Upton sort of moved on too. I don’t doubt that she could have still had a solid modeling career if that’s what she wanted, but in 2014, she dumped her modeling representation and began focusing full-time on her acting career. She scored a role in The Other Woman, and she’s filmed a few more movies too. But just like Emily Ratajkowski’s predicament, Upton has discovered that perhaps transitioning into being a full-time actress only works when people want to hire you. So Kate is going back to modeling.

Kate Upton is officially back in the modeling world. After unceremoniously ditching her dream team at IMG Models in 2014 to focus on her fledgling acting career, the Sports Illustrated cover girl has signed with Next Model Management, reports The Post’s Kirsten Fleming.

The agency, which also reps male model-of-the-moment Lucky Blue Smith, will handle all of Upton’s fashion and beauty projects. Upton, who appeared in Nick Cassavetes’ “The Other Woman,” will continue to be repped by WME for acting.

This is sort of where Emily Ratajkowski played it safe: Emily is trying out the acting thing, but she’s also still modeling. I would guess that Emily still makes more money from modeling too. Just as I would assume that Upton is making this move mostly for financial reasons. Even if Upton is only interested in doing magazine editorials and possibly/probably some ad campaigns, that work will get more money for Upton than she’s making as an actress. That’s the same reason why so many actresses dabble in modeling: that’s where the money is. Especially if it’s one of those lucrative beauty/hair product contracts.

She’s overrated. Very pretty but typical swimsuit model. She should do what she’s good at.

  2. Tiffany says:

Kate really underestimated how fickle the press and fans can be. The later interviews she kinda dissed the things that made her famous and now she is back where she started. Hm.

  3. kimberly says:

She really thought she could make it big in the acting industry? LOL!!!! 😂
I think abondoning her ‘modelling career’ for an acting career was a DUMB move…….I’m not a fan of Ratajkowski but at least she or her agent used their common sense.

And wasn’t there allegations of Kate acting like a diva by certain ppl in the modelling industry? IF that was true then she is VERY lucky that she’s still getting opportunities
She does not realize how lucky she is. 😐

I love Kate Upton. She is darling.

  5. D says:

I think I read somewhere that she comes from a very wealthy family, does she need the money(socialite )? Or maybe I’m confusing her with someone else

    • lunchcoma says:

Her family is quite wealthy. I imagine she wants to stay in the public eye, though. There are some events celebrities are invited to that socialites aren’t (and vice versa), and this way she keeps a foot in both worlds.

Gorgeous dog! Mine is in his last days. I want to hugs all the dogs.

I’m so sorry. I lost my souldog a year ago, and I still mourn him daily.

I’m boxer-obsessed, so I love that Kate has a boxer. I didn’t know that about her.

  7. QQ says:

    Aw! Poor Watery Boobs girl

  8. HH says:

I think it didn’t work because Kate’s modelling career came with personality typecasting. She played into that “dumb, hot blonde” shtick, and then wanted to transition to acting and be taken seriously. You can’t launch your career on one personality and then switch it up to the opposite.

Good for Kate! Lots of models tried the big screen with little success Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson e.t.c
Y’know Kate Upton has covered SI 3 times. Her three peat put her in the company of Elle Macpherson and Christie Brinkely. Fact
Upton’s one of the few SI models that has gone to the other fashion spectrum with HB covers, Vanity Fair covers, several Vogue editions (including the big ones UK, USA, Italy)
I’ll always root for her because of the snobbishness of how she was not a deserving model of this attention according to some quarters. As well as being physically degraded in the worst way by ‘online fashion connesieurs’.
Meanwhile several dead eyed beanpoles that look like girls you would find in the Metro at 3am sniffing for undesirable compounds are praised as being ‘edgy’, ‘non basic’ and deserving of Vogue covers (whatever ‘deserving’ is lol).
In real world, I hope Upton gets another Vogue US cover and the undeserving rage that will ensue!!

Honestly, breaking into acting sounds really hard, not as far as the opportunity being there, but trying to be convincing as an actor. Like, if you don’t give off a certain aura, why would they hire you in the first place or continue to hire you? If you don’t give the impression that there’s any depth in you in the first place, I imagine it ain’t happenin’. Rebecca Romijn comes off as regal, sexy and smart (jmo). Charlize was once a model and she seemed sexy, sophisticated and adorable (Mighty Joe Young days). I’m sure it sucks a big one, but it’s just rare to find beyond a cameo here and there and some people just don’t have it.

  11. Susan says:

I appreciate her look. So many model types blend together for me–gorgeous, mind you, but not distinctive. She definitely breaks the mold.

  12. yes says:

She dumped IMG Models? Silly girl.

  13. Angela says:

I like her – she is engaged to Justin Verlander (pitcher for the Detroit Tigers) and they do quite a bit of work in the community, especially for animal rescue organizations. She seems relatable.

  14. rogue says:

The point isn’t her trying to get into acting. It is always smart to spread yourself. It her assuming she could just waltz in and get roles based on her popularity. She believed in her own hype and became an entitled diva and dropped her agency that made her big. Sometimes it is better to not burn your bridges .

  15. kibbles says:

It is always best to strike while the iron is hot and stick to what you are good at doing. Upton should have stayed in modeling as her full-time career while just dabbling in acting with perhaps one or two roles each year as a supporting actress in a movie or a few recurring appearances on popular tv shows. The public and press are incredibly fickle. We tend to move onto the next hot thing pretty quickly. Everyone only has a set number of years in their prime and Upton already wasted a few years while the public has moved onto the next “plus sized” model Ashley Graham, whom I doubt will be as stupid to throw away her burning hot modeling career. She’s doing the smart thing by appearing in music videos and building her empire in the plus sized clothing business. Graham will very likely be much richer than Upton and Ratajkowski when everything is said and done.

  16. Emily says:

I’m more interested in this male model-of-the-moment, Lucky Blue Smith.
    1. There’s a male model-of-the-moment. (HONK for male models!)
    2. I just Google imaged this guy and he’s like straight out of Zoolander.
