James McAvoy & Anne-Marie Duff are divorcing after nine years of marriage

wenn22380707

This is sad news, but I don’t know if it’s shady. I suspect we’ll find out if there’s something shady going on in a few months, but for now… it’s just sad. James McAvoy and his wife of nine years are getting a divorce. James, 37, and Anne-Marie Duff, 45, met in 2004 and married in 2006. All I can say is that there was little-to-no gossip about the state of their marriage. They didn’t shy away from appearing on red carpets together, but even then they always maintained their privacy really well. Also: there are very few photos of their son, Brendan, born in 2010. So it seems odd that they’re announcing their divorce publicly and seemingly out-of-nowhere.

James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff are calling it quits. The X-Men: Apocalypse actor and Duff have announced that they are ending their nine-year marriage.

“It is with tremendous sadness that we have come to the decision to divorce,” the pair said in a statement. “We enter this next phase with continued friendship, love and respect for one another and the shared focus of caring for our son. We ask that you respect our and, most importantly, our child’s privacy during this time.”

The couple were married in a quiet ceremony on Oct. 18, 2006, and have one child together, son Brendan born in 2010. They met while working on the British television show Shameless, on which Duff played McAvoy’s character’s love interest.

[From People]

I’ve often wondered if James is the kind of guy who screws around. I’ve never known if his chemistry with his leading ladies is just James being a wonderful actor, or if he’s seduced any or all of them off-camera. Right now, I’m going to veer on the side of saying that maybe-probably there was no third party involved in this divorce. I’m also going to theorize that the timing of the announcement – in advance of the big X-Men: Apocalypse promotional tour – is because James and Anne-Marie knew that there would be gossip when she didn’t attend the premiere.

Oh, and as soon as I wrote all of that ^^ the Daily Mirror claimed that McAvoy has been “getting close” to American actress Alexandra Shipp, who plays the young Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse. A source told the Mirror: “It’s no great secret how they’ve got close. James has been quite open among the cast and crew that his marriage was over – and it seems he has struck up a friendship with Alex since then. It’s been the source of some gossip among those connected to the film – but they’ve kept things low key.” You can see photos of McAvoy and Shipp together here at an event. They seem friendly, but the photos don’t seem to be evidence of an affair. Sources also say that McAvoy and Duff have been having issues for a while.

James did appear on Graham Norton’s show on Friday in the UK. They paired him with Jennifer Lawrence, whose oblivious-puppy routine certainly keeps the focus off McAvoy’s personal life.

Bums. I liked these two together. Oh well, they seem to be grown-up, nice people, the both of them, so I shall say “bums” once more then leave them alone.

    • Diana says:

      LOL

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

I really buy that their breakup is friendly .The Mirror has some pics where it looks tense then after they smile/ have fun

      • Dingding says:

Exactly. When I saw the mirror’s pics I thought they only looked tense when they spotted the photographers. When one of them left they seemed to say good bye very amiably.

    • BritAfrica says:

Me too! Doesn’t anybody stay together any more??

      • Trashaddict says:

Maybe some, but since actors are dreamers and pretenders and sensation-seekers at heart, maybe there’s always “the love of one’s life” just over the horizon?

  2. zappy says:

    ugh.. sad news indeed..

  3. Mia4s says:

Ughhhhh. I hate this. Hopefully nothing shady and just one of those things. Hard to say though.

  4. SloaneY says:

    😥
I hope this was just a growing out of each other…but sadly I think there might be some rumors of cheating coming out later.

    • CornyBlue says:

Hardcore McAvoy fans say that this is something they expected so maybe there is something.

      • mia girl says:

Cornyblue – Why do they think that?
I am a big fan, but not the type that reads fan blogs or tracks his daily whereabouts. What did the hardcore fans see to make them suspect a break-up?

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

Are These hardcore McAvoy fans as conspiratioonist as Cucumberbatch’s ones?

      • CornyBlue says:

No no they are pretty nice people.
I think some kind of change in his behaviour. Like they were talking that he was more mid life crisis-y for like a year now

      • mia girl says:

Thanks. The potential change is behavior is interesting. I made a comment down thread, maybe it is just a silly observation and means nothing but I feel like he’s been wearing lifts in his shoes more so in the past year. Lol

      • InvaderTak says:

Cornyblue, are you talking about that motorcycle pic that was on his (relatively new) Instagram account? I think that’s gotten overblown as “evidence” of a mid life crisis (Isn’t he a bit young for that?). He had been restoring that bike for some time and was proud of it.

      • CornyBlue says:

@InvaderTak I am not really sure but maybe? I do not know what they were talking about

      • Shutterbug99 says:

        Interesting.

I’ve never followed McAvoy that much and yet I’m disappointed to hear this news. He has a twinkle in his eye and seems like he might be a bit of a rogue and a flirt, but somehow I thought these two would last.

      • ell says:

it wasn’t just the instagram pic tbh, anyone who’s been following him for a while figured there was something a bit off for some time.

imo it’s ok. relationships and marriages can end, and people outgrow each other, it’s just life. i’m a bit grossed out by the fact they’re implying he cheated though, although the daily mail was also implying jlaw was his side piece, which tbh i really doubt.

      • ichsi says:

I’m a hardcore fan but I didn’t expect THAT. He was a little off last year, a little more frat boy-ish and in your face. I thought part of it was because he seemed to have found his groove as an actor, do those overpaid blockbuster movies and enjoy the circus while doing serious theatre on the side. On the other hand a lot of his exposure last year was for the Victor Frankenstein promo and I felt like he knew that the movie wasn’t great and tried to overplay it with sheer chutzpah.

Now that this news came out I’m sad, angry, disappointed and quite a bit heartbroken at the same time. There are a ton of things that could have happened, none of them really good I fear. They don’t seem the kind of people who get divorced over a whimsy or who wouldn’t at least try to fix it for a while. I’m sad because I always got the impression that they were genuine, at least genuine for a couple of actors. Apparently I was wrong, since their last outings already had to be overshadowed by this and they still seemed perfectly fine.

I never trust those rumours popping up on the Daily Fail a day after the announcement but if he really cheated with his 13-years younger co-star I’ll lose a ton, if not all my respect for him.

    • Paula says:

That was the first thing I thought when I read the news. So sad, I really liked them together.

    • key says:

I don’t know about gossip rumors about him, but I do know and it’s pretty evident form his IMDB that he’s been working on back to back projects in the last year or so and with the exception of the theatre play they were mostly away form home in the UK.

  5. Felice. says:

This makes me want to kneel outside during a downpour.

She still reminds me of heather graham.

    • Jegede says:

      Really? I’m surprised

Heather Graham is someone who does not age and still has a cherubic look to her.

Duff is quite the opposite IMO.

      Just commenting, not judging.

      • Lucrezia says:

I see it. Their chins and jawlines are similar. (I want to say pixie-shaped, but I’m not sure that’s even a thing. Do pixies have a certain face shape, other than pointy ears?)

      • Dingding says:

When one ages one loses fat in one’s face and that cherubic-full-cheeks look fades away. Duff and Graham do look a bit alike, it is the shape of the face and the jawline and the proportions, I guess.
As Heather Graham doesn’t seem to age I wonder if that is due to some little help. She is looking very good, though. Madonna had her cheeks pumped up to cherubic, too, and overdid her face.

As for Duff: she looks VERY VERY good. She certainly looks younger than she is.

I am sorry for them. But sometimes a split is better than staying together in a bad marriage.

      • Annetommy says:

I think Heather is pretty but quite artificial and generic looking. I think Anne-Marie is interesting and striking. He’s done some good work – I think the first thing I saw him in was Inside I’m Dancing, which I really enjoyed. But his looks and personality have never appealed. Hopefully a third party isn’t involved.

    • Zuri says:

She and Heather Graham look nothing alike. Graham has looked like a teenager for decades, this woman is obviously aging in the face.

  6. Shutterbug99 says:

Hm. I always liked these two together, thought they were for keeps and would weather the Hollyweird storm.

He was wearing his wedding ring on the Graham Norton show – or at least was wearing a ring on his wedding-ring finger. I noticed this only because I recorded the show and watched after I heard the news of his divorce.

Rumors of him getting close to a co-star all over the DM today. But then the DM also reported that he and JLaw were ‘wildly flirting’ on the Graham Norton show, which just didn’t happen. They were friendly and Jen was tactile as usual (with all the guests, not just McAvoy) but as for wildly flirting – no.

Jen was telling stories about her Nick again. I wish those two would get back together!

    • kibbles says:

I haven’t watched the entire Graham Norton interview, but many people commented on DM that it looked like JLaw and McAvoy were flirting and JLaw might have something to do with McAvoy’s divorce. JLaw flirts with everyone though so I don’t think their joking and goofing off on a tv show is much proof of anything. However, this is kinda JLaw’s MO, isn’t it? She seems to be into British guys. After her relationship with Chris Martin despite the fact that he is not even divorced yet from Gwyneth Paltrow, it would not surprise me if JLaw isn’t bothered in the least to start up a relationship with an older man who is just getting out of a marriage. Her attitude is very live and let live. I don’t think a marriage would stand in her way if she really wanted to hook up with a dude for fun.

      • Maria says:

“I don’t think a marriage would stand in her way if she really wanted to hook up with a dude for fun. ”
why would it anyway? its not illegal to hook up with married people or hooking up while married.
they are actors, they are constantly surrounded by hot people who want to have sex with them. no one will be faithful in those situations. why would they? you only live once and every single person in the world wants to have sex with hot people but so many act like they wouldnt in that situation.

      • SamLT says:

Except unlike almost anyone, JLaw has actually said in an interview that she would never go for a guy who was attached to someone else. And Chris Martin isn’t a valid example, they were separated for ages, Goop was already in a relationship with someone else before JLaw entered the picture.

      • CornyBlue says:

What i see is people just using another excuse to drag JLaw. When she and Chris Martin got together, him and Goop were done. She did not go and snatch a married guy. She is tactile, she was touching Jack Whitehall too but I guess that is not as scandalous as going after a recently divorced guy.

      • Maria says:

do you really think she would say in an interview “ladies, hold on tight to your husbands, im coming for them?” what she said is like a guy saying “i would never hit my wife” it sounds like overcompensating and sketchy, too.

everyone talks big when they are not in those situations, no one here would be faithful if their celeb crush made it clear to them that they could spend the night together, dont kid yourself.

      • Locke Lamora says:

I can not stand JLaw, but I don’t think she would do that. And I saw the Graham Norton episode, and while she was over the top and annoying, as per usual, they weren’t flirting. It was more brother-sister banter.

      • SamLT says:

@Maria: My point was that usally people don’t speak about this at all. That she chose to say something could be interpreted to mean the issue means something to her. Or not. Just as much as your interpretation that she wouldn’t mind going for attached dudes. She has never said anything corroborating that (sarcasm, in case you missed it this time too :) .

      • kibbles says:

Maria – Speak for yourself. Some of us have self control and think about the consequences (like, destroying a family) before acting out on carnal desires. There is a lot to be said for people who specifically get a kick out of sleeping with people who are already attached. If one is young, hot, and rich, that person has a lot of options and can sleep with lots of other unattached hot people. If that person has a conscience, he or she would not feel the need to take things further with someone who is married regardless of looks. I personally find married men who cheat to be disgusting and would be turned off by any advancements made by one. There is more to attraction than physicality. I had a man flirt with me while he had his daughter with him when I was still in high school. He was attractive but there is no way I would sleep with an older man with a daughter and a wedding ring. There are still ethical and monogamous people in this world with standards.

      • Tulip says:

@Maria. I think you make some good honest points. But I got a laugh thinking how there will always be just one person who will be hardcore monogamous for unexpected reasons; not because they are “better” than others, but because life is so bizzare.

As for this break up, who knows yet.

      • Tulip says:

@Kibbles. I can’t edit my comment, but to be clear, I was referring to Hollyweird situations where even morals are highly flexible.

That guy you ran into at high school sounds like a total creep.

      • Shutterbug99 says:

@kibbles A lot of people commented on JLaw and McAvoy, but I really didn’t see it. Yes, she was touchy feely but she’s like that with everybody from what I’ve seen. She was the same with Jack Whitehall.

Anyhow, this story seems to have moved on from JLaw and on to Alexandra Shipp.

      • Bridget says:

It’s their 3rd X Men movie. The cast is pretty tight and Jlaw and McAvoy know each other very well and are clearly comfortable around each other.

And that’s a huge judgement to make to say “she looks like the kind of woman who (fill in the blank)” and then use that as some sort of confirmation of your personal bias. As well as ‘who would make a statement like that’ – someone who was being linked with friends and co-stars who are in committed relationships.

It’s fine if you’re not a fan of JLaw. But you don’t have to try to justify it by coming up with flimsy reasons.

      • hmmm says:

        @kibbles

ITA. Maria’s comment seems to embrace the mantra that “Greed is Good”, and that one is *entitled* to everything in this world without judgment or discretion. I think just that little bit covers lust, greed, hubristic pride, and gluttony, several of the 7 deadly sins. It’s an amoral point of view. I could never be in a relationship with anyone amoral and selfish. It seems rather pointless and unstable.

      • Dingding says:

        @ Maria

I hope that you will enjoy being on the receiving end of other people’s bad behaviour. I always hope that people will be forced to suffer from exactly the same things that they demand others should put up with.
Practice as you preach, I hope.

      • Maria says:

@hmm: im not religious so mentioning deadly sins to me is like mentioning santa claus not giving presents to a 30 year old. im not worried.
im not saying its good its just part of human nature we’ll have to accept. we all fall easily for good looking people. attractive people have power in our society, why? because we give it to them. hollywood and most of the modern music industry would not exist if it was about hard work and talent, we are all more interested in sex appeal.
so we could now just pretend we arent all like that or just admit it. im admitting it, others are all high and mighty like you and still do it then. trust me if you were constantly around hot people that also wanted you you would also have sex with them even if you were in a happy relationship. guess what that has nothing to do with one another. you can enjoy both at the same time. no one here is constantly hit on by supermodel guys or hot actors so spare me the “i would be faithful” silliness.

i dont feel entitled, its just a reality on this planet that if you are good looking you can have sex with pretty much anyone you want and they will forget their so called commitment. sex appeal rules the world, you’ll have to deal with that.

@dingding: you think im bad and you wish me to suffer, who is the bad person here? you dont have to put up with it, you are not forced to stay with someone who is not monogamous, just know that no one is monogamous. there are just people without other options (either no one else wants them or the people that want them are too ugly)

dont date attractive people and expect them to say no to fun with others just because you cant handle it.

      • Dingding says:

        @ Maria

Read my comment properly before you accuse me of things I haven’t written.
I wrote that I hope that people receive the same treatment that they preach to others.

As for monogamy: please don’t insult people who are monogamous by choice. Yes, they are there. There are people “with options” and they chose to remain monogamous.
I am sorry for you if you haven’t had the experience in your life of meeting a broader range of different people. And I can assure you they are there. Though it is sometimes difficult to find them.

As for dating attractive people and denying them fun with others as you wrote:
What do you think a relationship is? A relationship is negotiable and both partners should be honest if monogamy is negotiable for them or not. Cheating / open relationships are not about attractiveness but about honesty and decency to admit what you want to your partner.

If somebody is fine with an open relationship – okay. And be aware that open relationship means that your partner might be gone any time when he/she finds what he/she thinks is better. From that point of view a relationship with a non-monogamous partner might be seen as a bad long-term investment.

      • Sixer says:

People must do as they please and act according to their own moral code – presumably falling down on it sometimes, what with us all being human an’ all.

But I, for one, would not get into bed with any of my internet boyfriends, should I come across them IRL and should they be willing. I am monogamous and perfectly happy that way. Jus’ sayin’.

      • sauvage says:

I’m right there with Sixer and others.

I am monogamous by choice, as is my boyfriend. We’re both pretty attractive people, and if we went for it, we could both easily get ourselves some strange . It’s just not worth it. We have seen too much of the immense heart-ache coming out of being cheated upon up-close to ever go there, either way. I’m faithful, and if I were single, I would stay away from a guy in a committed relationship. Not for lack of opportunity – I just prefer being able to look in the mirror and not see someone I perceive as an a**sehole.

Full disclosure: I did it once, not care about somebody being taken and drunkenly go for it anyway. He left her for me, we were together for about three months. It just didn’t feel good. Not because I was afraid of him cheating on me, somehow that thought never crossed my mind, but because I felt bad about what I had done. I knew better, and I know better, and I learned my lesson. I’d rather be down with myself instead of having to explain to myself why I would knowingly hurt somebody that badly, you know? To me, that is the only criterion that matters, regardless of profession and/or opportunity: Are you really willing to hurt somebody that badly, and what does that say about you as a person?

      • Maria says:

“And be aware that open relationship means that your partner might be gone any time when he/she finds what he/she thinks is better.”
because that does not happen in monogamous relationships, right? news flash: every day that happens.

sixer: how could you ever say something like that with so much confidence when you are not in that situation? you simply dont know. and its far more likely that if world class hot guys hit on your everyday that one day you would take advantage of that.
can people say no to an attractive stranger in a bar? yeah some can, lots cant, but no one can at the level of famous people. its ridiculous to assume that anyone would be faithful with all that temptation. and you kow who is 100% going to cheat? the people who are totally sure they would never.
its easy knowing you will never be in that situation and gleefully get on your high horse and claim you would never.

sauvage: so you did it already. you now know perfectly well thats how humans are. you did not have any responsibility towards the other woman.
if you are fully honest with yourself you also know that its very likely you will “drunkely go for it” anyway while in a relationship. dont kid yourself. if your boyfriend cheats on you and leaves you for the other woman you cant complain, you were once the other woman.
instead of learning from all of that and see that no one is truly monogamous you try to justify it somehow and deny our nature.

      • Sixer says:

Maria – because I do know! I know me. I know which less-than-honourable things I would do, and which I wouldn’t. You’re simply projecting your own code onto everybody else. It’s fine if you think that internet boyfriend opportunity cheating is something you would do. I just wouldn’t, is all. I’m sure I *would* do other things that you disapprove of and wouldn’t do.

You’re being silly and insisting that everyone is the same as you. Everyone isn’t.

      • sauvage says:

@ Maria: I just saw your comment.

Yes, I did indeed have a responsibility towards this woman, whether I knew her or not, the responsibilty to not knowingly hurt another human being period. I failed, and I take responsibilty for that. As I said, I learned my lesson. I f**k up occasionally in other ways, but I don’t knowingly hurt other people. I apologise, and I learn. Cheat on my partner, or go for someone in a relationship, I don’t. Break up a family, I don’t. Neither does my partner. It is a choice we as humans can make, and we did.

Regarding “our” nature: Just speak for yourself. My nature is different by choice.

    • MexicanMonkey says:

I was watching the show with a friend (live, before we heard the news of the divorce) and I thought Jen seemed really into Jack Whitehall while my friend thought she and MaCavoy were really into each other. I think it’s just the way Jen Lawrence is with costars.

    • CornyBlue says:

People are crazy about this James and Jen thing.

    • SKF says:

I have no comments on his divorce other than that it is sad.

I want to talk about Graham Norton. My god that episode was funny!!! I cried with laughter several times. There was no flirting, you can tell that J-Law is very much the girl who grew up on a horse farm with rough and tumble brothers, and that she acts that way with her cast mates and they have a lot of fun. She is one of the boys and they have a silly relationship with each other.

Also, her dress was fantastic and her boobs looked magnificent. I want that dress! Just… Wow. She also talks about Nick a lot still, fondly. I wish they’d get back together!!

      • Lurker says:

That’s so funny, SKF, I thought it was one of the worst GN shows in ages! We were all rolling our eyes in our house, J Law totally dominated with her usual shtick – I think she’s great most of the time, but she was so in your face, attention-grabby…just so extra.

At one point, she and McAvoy were whispering really obliviously, and GN had to interrupt them so Jen could tell some “I’m so normal, just like you!!!” story. Ugh.

That said, she usually seems lovely, and her boobs looked AMAZING, you’re absolutely right. I think I prefer reading her interviews rather than watching her behaviour, personally. I just find her so attention hungry.

    • genesia says:

      @kibbles
Chris Martin and Goop were separated since 2013 and they said the news in March 2024 before JLaw.
BTW the news is thar McAvoy has a tjing with Alexandra Shipp

    • ell says:

i’m no jlaw fan, in fact she irks me, but honestly there was absolutely nothing shady going on during gn. she was acting like she always does, and she always got along well with james. if anything she seemed more interested in the other guest lol

  7. Naya says:

He always strikes me as a hell raiser. Not in Orlando Blooms juvenile fashion or Leos frat boy way but in a whisky-guzzling-all-weekend-at-his-mates-house type of way.

  8. lilacflowers says:

    Sorry to hear this.

  9. Mara says:

This is really sad. The only thing I have to object to is People’s last sentence: “They met while working on the British television show Shameless, on which Duff played McAvoy’s character’s love interest.”

Whilst James McAvoy is much more famous now, Duff was the core of Shameless in it’s early seasons and McAvoy very much existed solely as HER love interest not the other way round.

    • Diana says:

Yes thank you!! That sentence really bothered me :\

    • Dingding says:

Anne-Marie Duff has had some good movies, too, and albeit a successful career. She played that ballet dancer, for example. She just didn’t get into any big franchises.
I think that careers like McAvoy’s or Ian McAllen’s or JLaw’s are the exception and Duff shouldn’t be measured against them. Nearly any actor or actress loses when compared against such big names.

It is like in science: there are hundreds of scientists and often many many of them are very very good but very very few get a nobel prize or have something named after them.

    • Bootsie says:

Me too! Thank you for pointing that out. James left the series pretty early on.

    • tealily says:

I was going to say the same thing! Thank you!! Gawd, I loved those two on Shameless.

  10. Lara says:

Ugh James, and she’s 20 years younger then Anne-Marie too, that’s got to be a bit devastating.

    • Moxie Remon says:

Most of us don’t think this is true, so don’t be sad, it’s probably just stupid gossip.

    • ell says:

that said, anne marie is several years older than him, so if it’s ok to date older surely also dating younger shouldn’t be a problem?

      • Saks says:

I dont think the issue is the main age gap but the fact that, if the rumour is true, he would have become a cliché, the man who leaves his family for a younger woman

      • ell says:

i have no issues with this woman being younger, i side eye him for apparently cheating. i would side eye the cheating even if she were closer to his age i.e. the age thing is really irrelevant

  11. mia girl says:

I make my love for McAvoy no secret around these parts so this makes me sad. I always figured that while he has a slightly mischievous twinkle in his eye (part of his appeal) he was on solid footing in his personal life. Maybe it’s a simple as the filming away for months at a time really took their toll.

But somehow, I think the out of nowhere announcement on a Friday afternoon means something is going to come to light soon.
Maybe that twinkle became a twankle. 😨

I do feel like he’s been wearing lifts in his shoes more so over the past year. Hmm

Yeah, that announcement seemed out of nowhere and unexpected too (you usually never hear anything about these two) which makes me think that there is more to come with this story!

    • CornyBlue says:

McAvoy also looks really tired. And since you guys asked upthread, it seems Anne Marie loathed social media so one of the biggest warning signs was when McAvoy got Instagram. Also someone said that McAvoy did not use to hug female fans or something because his wife asked him not to which does not seem very stable imo.

      • ell says:

the hugging thing is true, and i always thought it a bit odd. maybe it was an excuse though, i wouldn’t want to hug strangers :P

      • SloaneY says:

Maybe she asked him not to hug them because of past incidents. I have no idea, just saying she might have cause.

      • ichsi says:

        @ell
I always thought it was an excuse not to hug and kiss 100 strangers at once too, not something she requested. I’ve seen him a couple of times, some fans can get handsy and this usually worked to keep them away.

      • CornyBlue says:

@ell @ichsi oh then I dont know but it seemed kind of weird on hearing it.

      • CornyBlue says:

@SloaneY Well he did leave his HS girlfriend of 10 years i hear for Anne Marie so maybe she was aware how he is ?

    • Bridget says:

McAvoy hit another level in his career over the span of his marriage. He spent a ton of time travelling and on location away from his wife and son. It’s possible it just didn’t work out.

    • saltandpepper says:

He’s one of my favourite actors too and handsome, his charm extends far beyond his looks. This is sad news, but who knows what happens behind closed doors? I hope there isn’t a third party.

  12. Misti says:

I won’t lie when they 1st got together I was all they won’t last 5 years.
Approaching the 10 year mark, I start to eat my words and then this!
Doesn’t matter if you eschew Hollywood and are “not showbiz”, the rules of love and infidelity stay the same.

  13. CornyBlue says:

Holy shit my heart just sank thinking Alexandra Shipp must be 19 or something but she is 24 which is a tad better. I love James McAvoy but I do not trust guys and I am sure he messed up somehow. Really really sad though, i thought they will be one of the few to make it

    • ichsi says:

She’s still 20 years younger than Anne-Marie. I kinda doubt it but if there’s any truth to that rumour he can kiss my a*se.

  14. Eggland's worst says:

Looks like someone’s been hanging around Fassbender too much.

    • Guest says:

Huh? I don’t get the Fassbender comment. So because Fassbender likes to date and then stop dating after two years, implies that James took him as a role model and started flirting with Lawrence which they clearly did from my point of view and finishes his marriage? Alrighty then. So I guess I should not hang around too much with my friend as she is single and loves guys and I am off the market. No attack here but we are all grown ups and no one said: James, look at Fassbender, he is sex symbol and likes ladies, do the same….

As for flirting with married people. I don’t give a flying eff about the actor or actress excuse. If you are taken, no guy or woman should start digging their claws into the relationship or marriage. What goes around comes around. If a guy is taken, he is taken. If he starts flirting, kissing, banging or whatever with you while he is still in a relationship, he will do the same to you. If there was cheating involved I would be really really disappointed of Mcavoy. I have never heard or read anything bad about their marriage. Quite the contrary though. Gutted for these two….

      • CornyBlue says:

OP said like one sentence. How did you deduce so much from it

      • ell says:

nah. some people like the thrill of cheating so they keep on doing it, but others are just too chicken to step out of a relationship, so they end up cheating and then getting out but that’s it. not saying cheating is fine, just that you can’t generalise.

      • Maria says:

“What goes around comes around. If a guy is taken, he is taken. If he starts flirting, kissing, banging or whatever with you while he is still in a relationship, he will do the same to you”
you realize that you can have sex without committing to someone? you dont even have to ever see them again. so what you write here in terms of “what goes around comes around” does not make any sense.

  15. CidySmiley says:

This makes me a little sad, I kind of expected them to last. I love how everyone thinks it’s cheating, and it very well may be, but maybe she cheated! Let’s not jump and point at him.

  16. kri says:

kaiser-I’m with you. As soon as I saw the headline, I thought uh-oh. This is sad, but I wasn’t surprised at all. And it would not surprise me if it was JLaw. PURE speculation on my part, but he seems to be her type. I hope he has more taste than that.

    • PEYTON says:

This is not about taste, more about respect… Jen was in 4 years relationship with Nick Hoult, who is like a brother for James. I saw the GN show, those two were like brother and sister, teasing each other.

    • Shutterbug99 says:

      Her type is tall, though.

I also saw these two on the GN show and did not see a whole lot of flirting going on. Friendly, yes. Tactile, yes. But JLaw is like that with almost everyone.

  17. Miss M says:

It’s sad. I liked them together!

  18. grace says:

Lol at people who are talking about a JLaw/McAvoy thing when the news is that he had a thing with Alexandra Shipp

  19. Freddy Spaghetti says:

I loved them together–and he seemed to adore her. Bummer.

I hope he doesn’t appear with a new girlfriend in a week or two.

  20. Tiffany says:

If this story is not true, I will truly feel for Alex Shipp. To have a part in a big blockbuster be overshadowed by gossip that you are the other woman.

    • ell says:

thing is, these things always end up being true. i remember when kate winslet and sam mendes broke up and rebecca hall denied she was the reason, and then it turned out she lied. same with johnny depp/vanessa paradis/amber heard. and there would be more, like i can’t think of a single instance in which the rumour turned out untrue.

    • Dingding says:

I don’t quite get why Shipp would start something with McAvoy.
He isn’t that good-looking. He is married and has a child which means that his ex and his child will always be in his life even if there is a divorce. He will have to pay child support and perhaps spousal support. Shipp herself plays Storm on the X-Men movies and that means that her position is fairly secure as Storm is one of the main characters. McAvoys position is even more secure as he has been in several X-Men movies already. Starting something with a colleague is the best way of everyone and everything ending up in a mess.

      • Maria says:

no one says they will start anything just that they probably boned. does not mean she will move in with him, we are not living in the 1950s anymore.

      • Dingding says:

        @Maria

We are living in the 21st century and not in the promiscuous 70ies and 80ies any more and any actress or actor who makes it into a big franchise has to protect his private life and calculate which private behaviour is acceptable and which one is not = destroys career.
The bigwigs behind the franchises demand that anyway. ;-)

Therefore it is a reasonable question to ask what is in for her if she …

Did my comments above irk you? :)

      • Maria says:

yeah tinder and the like never happened, no hook up culture at all, one night stands are unheard of and friends with benefits only existed in the roman empire.

  21. FF says:

That statement sounds like they’ve been together but essentially separated for a while before making it official.

Doesn’t have to mean there anyone else precipitated it, just that the marriage wasn’t working anymore.

Any recent flirtations could mean they were planning to divorce before now but chose to announce it after the film was out and the promotion of it was (mainly) over. So he knew it was over.

    • CornyBlue says:

He said he still had a bulk of promotion in China and New York so in no way is the promo tour over. They must have announced when they did for some reason.

      • Don't kill me I'm French says:

maybe are they the British Bennifer 2.0 and they use their couple to promote themself? # TeamCrazyConspiration

      • ichsi says:

I also thought that the timing was weird as hell. He’s still pretty much in the middle of the promotion tour, he WILL get asked about this no matter what he said in the press release or what his PR people ask of the reporters. This is too good to let go and I’m sure some a**hole will try to use this to get a reaction out of him.

Someone on here mentioned that maybe they wanted to quell any suspicion when she didn’t come with him to the premiere. But the premiere was quite small-ish and it was perfectly plausible that she wouldn’t come. He also still wore his ring to it. So yeah, I fear that there is a nasty reason behind it. *deep-sighs* *still so broken up about it*

      • FF says:

So maybe he’s/she’s/they’re tired of acting married when they already agreed to getting a divorce?

The remaining promo gets it out there and he/she/both can definitively move on at the end of it.

      • Betti says:

Yes, normally PR would advise to leave any announcement till after a big press tour unless there was a need i.e. the gossip about him and Shipp are true and the press were going to run with it. The Fail article right out said that it was an open secret that something was going on – if thats true then it was only a matter of time before it made it into the tabloids.

  22. Tina says:

It’s too bad. She’s a phenomenal actor, and I liked him enormously when he said that she was better than he is (which is absolutely true).

    • Dingding says:

Sadly she didn’t get a part in a big franchise. She does totally deserve bigger parts, though. I could even imagine her playing some character on the loony squad in “Suicide Squad”. It is a pity they did cast Cara Delevigne in that movie as she can’t act at all.

      • Tina says:

She’s got a really good career on stage. She was amazing in Husbands and Sons, Cause Celebre, Strange Interlude and especially Saint Joan. I wish I had been able to see her Lady Macbeth on Broadway.

  23. hmmm says:

I am so bummed out. I really like both of them and they seemed to fit so well together. They also always lived a modest, quiet life. I remember how he described himself as a ‘nester’ so he was perfectly content to marry and ‘nest’.

I wanted them to succeed because nice people in the biz are a rarity and so is true love. I still like to believe in forever (even though I’m divorced and wouldn’t marry again if you paid me- ha!).

Sadness all around. Divorce is so rough.

  24. Saks says:

In my personal point of view, if this is true he seriously downgraded…

  25. Cerys says:

When they got together I was sceptical because of the 9 year age gap but they seemed to be good together and came across as very nice, grounded people. I feel sad for them and hope they can keep things amicable for the sake of their son.

  26. Zuri says:

    Another one bites the dust.

  27. Betti says:

Am very sad to hear this – they always came across as being committed to each other. While I don’t really buy the Fails story, he always came across as being a bit immature. even thou am a fan and think he’s a nice guy. It could have been that they outgrew each other and his immaturity. Thou if what the Fail says turns out to be true then shame on both of them, regardless of wether he was telling people his marriage was over.

  28. Milli zen says:

Eh i read the original Mirror article and totally believe he was hooking up and the divorce announcememt came to protect his image

  29. Addison says:

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. So sad.

  30. serena says:

I hope there’s no cheating involved, I really like him!

  31. MAC says:

I saw an interview with him and Daniel (Harry Potter) for the Frankenstein movie they were on a radio show live. I turned it off. McCoy was so emotionally immature it was painful to watch.

That is why I am not at all surprised if he cheated or if she is just done with him. His behavior has been the same on many live interviews.

  32. cakecakecake says:

He is my new top FAV actor, I love him. He is so good at his craft.
god, I do not want to read anything trashy about him, he seems really nice in interviews I have seen.

  33. tealily says:

NO NO NO NO NO I will not believe it! I NO LONGER BELIEVE IN LOVE.

  34. TreadStyle says:

This makes me sad! I will be so so disappointed if something shady went on. I have always thought of him (maybe naively so) as one of the good guys. They seemed truly into each other at all stages of their marriage. :(

  35. Majicou says:

    Hollywood marriages never last

    • Taxi says:

But London isn’t H’wood. Duff is mostly British stage & I’ve heard rumors for 3-4 years that McEvoy has a roving eye.
