Lauren Holly, 52, denies plastic surgery, attributes her look to weight gain

Lauren Holly has been working primarily in TV since the mid 90s, when she was known for her role in 1994′s Dumb and Dumber, with Jim Carrey. She was also married to Carrey briefly, from 1996 to 1997. Holly has been doing TV movies as well as shows like Chicago Hope, NCIS, and she’s currently starring in Motive on the Canadian CTV network. So she’s not as visible as she once was, but she’s working steadily, which is nice to hear.

Holly looks quite different than she did in the 90s, which is expected since it’s been over 20 years. However she has that kind of homogenous looking “LA face” (credit: Lainey) that so many actresses get where you can tell they’ve had either injectables and/or plastic surgery. Her lips are puffed up, her face doesn’t make as many expressions as it should, and it’s clear she’s had something done. Kaiser watches NCIS and she told me that Holly’s face was incredibly distracting on that show and that it barely moved at times. In an interview on the OWN network’s Where are They Now, Holly denies having plastic surgery though and attributes her face to weight gain. Hmmm. She also talks about the fact that she took time off acting to raise her three adopted boys.

On taking a break to raise her three adopted boys
I was absolutely worried about taking a break and trying to go back to acting, especially in my industry, but I went back and I started working. I have to say like even the past three years, I’ve been busier than I’ve ever been.

On if she’s had plastic surgery

It’s funny that you brought up plastic surgery because I’ve been accused of having a ton and I haven’t had any. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t but I almost feel like I almost missed that boat, but I’m not against it. I’m 51, things change. A woman wants to look a little younger, gain a little weight it’s a natural thing. I look a little fuller just from that. I’m ok with that.

[From YouTube/OWN via The Daily Mail]

Yeah that’s not weight gain, that’s lip injections and Botox at the very least. I want to give her somewhat of a break because I think that fillers and Botox are so normalized in LA that there really is this hard distinction between “surgery” and going in for injections. To those of us who don’t live in big cities, we see these type of faces and they look so obviously altered to us, but people must get used to them, especially when it’s their own face in the mirror every day. Just admit to getting Botox and fillers though, people aren’t stupid. We know that’s not weight gain.

You know who looks great at 57? Andie MacDowell. Maybe she’s had a little something here and there but it’s not as obvious.

Here’s the brief video of Holly on Where are They Now:

    Kathy Griffin looks fantastic!

Seriously though, there’s definitely some eye work going on.

    • sienna says:

      omg, you win! too funny!

    • SnarkySnarkers says:

Bahahahha! My first thought too! They have this cool tape now for your eyes thats like an instant eyelift, maybe its that? She definitely has the classic trout pout thing going on though, which is a dead giveaway for lip injections. I have to say being pregnant with my first child has really made me start freaking out about the dreaded postpartum body.I’m eating healthy and haven’t gained too much but if things went south (flabby tummy skin, saggy boobies, stretch marks ect) I would definitely consider getting one of those mommy makeover surgeries. I also would never claim it was all diet and exercise alone. I think not admitting to getting work done when flat out asked is a personal choice but a lie nonetheless.

      • Snowflake says:

Where do you get that tape? I got hit in the face by accident and I think it affected the nerves around that eye, as it droops now. So it’s not as open as my other eye. I was wondering what I could do, maybe that tape would work?

      • SnarkySnarkers says:

Heres one I found on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/EasyLift-Instant-Eye-Lift/dp/B00IUT7W7W but just type “instant eye lift tape” into a google search and it should come up with some ;)

      • Nicole says:

Snarky – I’ve had 2 babies and I have to say – postpartum girdle all the way. It won’t help you lose weight, that’s ridiculous. But it holds your skin and organs (gross I know) in place while you heal. My stomach looks exactly the same as before and I fit in my high waisted size 2 skinny jeans less than a month after having each

      • SnarkySnarkers says:

Thanks so much Nicole!!! Definitely getting one of those belly band things to wear afterwards. I’ve heard lots of good things about them. Its nice to hear positive stories out there because lord knows there are a lot of debbie downers when it comes to having kids ;) I started at 110 pre pregnancy weight and have gained 17 pounds at 24 weeks. Not terrible but according to some calculators ZOMG Im over by a pound according to the week I’m at in pregnancy. My doc wants me to gain 25-35 pounds so I guess Im doing pretty good.

    • QQ says:

      *spits water all Over* FAM!!!!!!

And really we can see the frigging underside of her upper eyelids, she looks more surprised than Winona Ryder at any red carpet LMFAO No surgery!!, Sure, Jan but you look like your eyes have to stay opened and moistened at night to sleep

    • Mel M says:

Hilarious! I wouldn’t have know it was Lauren holly without being told. She looks nothing like she did before but she also doesn’t look old so there is obviously something going on.

    • Bobbie says:

She looks a bit like Victoria Principal in one of those pictures – she’s a stunning lady.

    • Esmom says:

Thats who I thought it was at first glance, too. Hard to say if she’s actually gone under the knife but she’s clearly had procedures. Still, I’ll always have a soft spot for anyone who started on All My Children. :)

    • Nerdista says:

She was so distracting on NCIS.

      • Breakfast Margaritas says:

Yeah it was clear on that show that her face changed. It’s probably just settling now. Still I wanted her and Gibbs to get together.

    • Carol says:

      Ha! Ha! Good one.

    • Betsy says:

Nicely put. If the article hadn’t said Lauren Holly, I wouldn’t have known who this was.

When did aging normally become completely unacceptable? Was it when injectables became widely available, so people could mess with their face but didn’t have to admit to surgery?

  2. sienna says:

I’m sure there is a ton of pressure to fit in. I live in the plastic surgical world, due to my dh’s career, and tons of extreme work is so normalized there too. I walk into a conference and it’s like a wax museum. I couldn’t imagine doing it myself, but it’s definitely the culture for some people.

    • Bobbie says:

You wouldn’t even have a bit of botox?

I’m tempted to …. but I don’t want to end up with droopy eyes like what happens in one in so many million cases (I’d probably be that one) …

      • sienna says:

Oh no, I have botox. But I use it sparingly and itmakes me feel refreshed. You would never tell. I would consider filler later, but only under my eyes. Never touch the cheekbones or lips is my mantra… it never looks natural.

  3. Froggy says:

I smell some pants on fire.

  4. perplexed says:

Her lips look done. I’m not sure about the rest though. She doesn’t look terrible like Courtney Cox. Maybe it’s easier to notice the differences on someone who was a great beauty like Cox was.

    • Miss Melissa says:

She is also battling smoker face. Whatever she is doing, it’s not counteracting the years of heavy smoking which show on her face. She is publicly very anti-smoking now, but you can hear it in her voice…

      • perplexed says:

I was wondering about her voice! When she speaks, her voice sounds a little odd to my ears.

  5. Redgrl says:

No, Andie Macdowell has bad frozen forehead.

    • Becks says:

I’ve seen Andie McDowell in person, she looks alot older. Granted, she was in workout clothes and wearing no make up, but I have to say her face is very wrinkled. She’s beautiful, but looks older without the smoke and mirrors. She was lovely, she stopped me to pet my dog ☺

  6. EscapedConvent says:

I remember Lauren Holly from TV. But now she looks like Marilu Henner.

  7. Nancy says:

I like Lauren, always have. Scientifically it is proven if you tell a lie repeatedly, you believe it as truth. She’s done something, fillers or whatever, but this isn’t weight gain, lol. The neck always gives it away. That is definitely the neck of a woman of her age. Why they continue to ask about plastic surgery is baffling, who is going to admit it. Courteney Cox denies it and even her mirror asks her who do you think you’re fooling! Stick with fillers girls, at least you still resemble the person you once were.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

No, clearly not weight gain, as she would probably have a small pocket of fat below her chin.
Unless her “weight gain” is defined as the fluid weight of the volume of filler in her face.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Nancy, did she start on a soap, maybe All My Children, if you know? I like her, too.

      • Imqrious2 says:

Yes, she did. It was my one and only soap sigh…so 😢 when it went off.

      • Nancy says:

I basically know her as Jennie on NCIS when I watched years ago. It seems odd that she was married to Jim Carrey, but people aren’t always as they appear. The old rumor mill had her having a fling with Michael Weatherly while on NCIS. As The World Turns!

  8. Chris says:

I think a lot of people don’t consider injectibles as plastic surgery so they feel fine denying surgery. I also think plenty of celebrities have had both injectibles and surgery and deny it even though it’s obvious. I feel like you either admit you have had some work done or don’t say anything at all. I think the lying when it’s very obvious just seems desperate and and embarrassing.

    • Belle says:

Agreed. I think this pearl-clutching “I haven’t had PLASTIC SURGERY” is absolutely laughable when it’s obvious to everyone that you’ve had Botox, fillers, laser this & that, and other no-scalpel-required work done.

It’s so commonplace in Holywood, why deny it? Makes about as much sense as back in the day when no one would admit to being a bottle blonde. 😆

  9. Kimbers says:

Whitney Cummings said her new fineface wasn’t plastic surgery, but from weight gain since she was unhealthy. I believe that. I don’t believe this lady at all from googling pics of her.

  10. boredblond says:

Fat or thin, no one can escape gravity, and since her eyes look wider, I’m betting a little lift has happened. I really don’t think it’s a question that should be asked in an interview unless the person is selling a beauty product…then it’s the whole hypocrisy/fake claims thing.

  11. lucy2 says:

Even a couple of years ago she looked like she was clearly having work done. She doesn’t look horrible or anything, but it’s kind of silly to deny it.

  12. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’m really bad at detecting plastic surgery unless it’s extreme. I don’t see it with her except maybe her eyes?

  13. Ashley Wilkes says:

It looks like she’s had a minor eyelift and she’s had at least one nose surgery. Some fillers, too. And I think I see the upper inward curve of a breast implant. Overall she does look pretty good though! Rene Zellweger looks so different because she’s happy, right? They all lie about it, even their blatantly obvious boob jobs.

  14. Minxx says:

I guess she feels that if she didn’t go under the knife, it’s not plastic surgery per se. But surely she had things done (lips, eye lift, botox)

  15. Jenni says:

Her neck looks 52. Just sayin’.

  16. Original Kay says:

I’ve always liked Lauren Holly. I thought she was great on NCIS. Recently we’ve been rewatching those old episodes. I still miss Ziva. Once Tony leaves we won’t watch anymore. 😔

  17. Bobafelty says:

Saw pics of her a few years ago, and she was a nightmare. She has clearly toned down the Botox and fillers, but it’s still obvious.

  18. Jess says:

My sister always says when you get older you have to choose your face or your body, meaning you can weigh a little more and have fewer wrinkles on your face, or weigh less and but your face will look older. I can definitely tell she’s gained weight and I think she looks great, but also looks like she’s had something done. I don’t understand why so many people in Hollywood lie about it when it’s glaringly obvious.

  19. Bobbie says:

She used to look so, SO pretty as a blonde in the Jim Carey era.

She still looks absolutely gorgeous now, but different – like a completely different person!

I liked the Lifetime movie she was in … where she played a hotel heiress caught up in a human trafficking scheme.

  20. sauvage says:

She clearly had work done between September 2015 and March 2016, just look at the two last pictures (and I’m NOT saying that in picture number 1 she is procedure-free, just that she looks less plastic than in picture number 2!).

I don’t see why permanent surprise is considered a good look. A lady at my fitness studio has that look and it hits me in the face every time I look at her. Of course I try politely not to stare, but it’s a huge distraction!

    • Esmom says:

Ha, there’s a lady at my gym that’s the same way. Once I saw her at a football game with a woman with the exact same face…I figured they must encourage each other and aren’t unable to see how strange they look. I also noticed they were dressed super youthfully, I struck me that they must just be terrified of aging.

    • JenniferJustice says:

In that last pic she looks like Kathy Griffin.

  21. JenniferJustice says:

…except that her face is stretched and shiny and her neck…..well, is not.

  22. siri says:

She doesn’t even look like herself anymore. Breast implants are very obvious, there seems to have been an eyelift, the nose is different- please…she’s full of it. She used to look pretty, and had a very individual look to her- it’s gone. The only thing natural seems to be her neck. The strange thing is, it almost never looks better, just weird. If her name wasn’t mentioned, I wouldn’t have known it’s her.

  23. Anna says:

Am I hearing something wrong or is she slurring her words?

  24. Jana says:

Don’t these women ever wonder what they would look like if they’d never had botox, fillers or facelifts? I personally would want to be able to recognize myself at 60.

  25. Veronica says:

Honestly, it amazes me that it’s still considered taboo to own up to surgical enhancement. Like, it’s so commonplace these days, even among civilian populations, that I can’t imagine it gives you THAT bad of a reputation.

  26. Dinah says:

I’ve had it over the years and it has made my (admittedly very sad) life better than what it would have otherwise been: misery. I’ve fortunately had good work, except the bridge of my nose is scrawny because I didn’t have enough natural fat to fill it out. For my next surgery, I am interested in the very hard to get “gold thread facelift,” the one that Catherine Deneuve supposedly had several years ago. A surgeon to whom I spoke briefly said I’m a good candidate for it (other than I’m broke!): skin that hasn’t been tanned in decades, few wrinkles, non-smoker, non-drinker, never used recreational drugs of any kind. I’ve pretty much been in a room temperature-controlled vault for 30 years. Plus, I’m Casper the Ghost pale. My skin is light. Much easier to sculpt and shape with much less cutting than with more heavily pigmented skin. Lauren has definitely had work done. I just don’t want the LA look with trout pout and un-natural alien creature type-features. I don’t want to look younger. I want to look better.
