Hilary Duff: ‘I don’t feel I would need to be married to have another child’

It’s nice to check in with Hilary Duff every now and then. She’s pretty harmless! Hilary covers the new issue of Redbook to promote…? Your guess is as good as mine. Let’s see… over the summer, she released a new album, and she’s currently starring in the TV show Younger. Not bad. Hilary is also a mom to son Luca, and her marriage to Mike Comrie is totally over. That’s what she’s talking about with Redbook – her current views on marriage, “having it all,” and how the media treated her after she had a baby. Some highlights:

On the way the press treated her post-baby body: “After I had Luca, I went out to, like, the breast-pump store—I was still huge—and I just had a comfortable outfit on. And the next day [in the tabloids] it was like, “Hilary debuts post-baby bod!” And I was like, “That’s not a debut! That’s an errand!” It was such a happy time that honestly I didn’t care; it wasn’t until later that I realized how mean and invasive it was.”

On mom guilt: “It’s hard to say that you really can have it all. I think you can to a certain degree, but fully loaded, pedal-all-the-way-down is tough. You’re missing out on something, either on the career or on the family. When I’m really busy with work, I feel extremely guilty.”

If she’ll ever get married again: “I don’t want to say I wouldn’t get married again, but it’s not important to me. I don’t feel I would need to be married to have another child. If I felt strongly enough toward someone or if someone felt strongly about it, I might say okay. But it’s not essential.”

[From Redbook]

I think the fact that she and Comrie didn’t have a clean, no-drama split is one of the big reasons why she’s so meh on marriage. After they announced their split, they spent months trying to rekindle their relationship, only to have the whole thing blow up earlier this year when Comrie was caught trying to drunkenly pay a woman for a hookup. It was messy and just my opinion, Hilary is still dealing with that. Or hey, maybe this is who she is now. The thing is, she’s not alone. A historic number of women these days don’t really care about marriage or getting the ring (and I’m one of them).

She looks cute and you’re right she seems harmless. I laughed at her line, “that’s not a debut!” How horrible. But it sounds like she’s pretty grounded about it.

The tabs did the same thing to Kim K this year when pictures of her came out at her mom’s party. She was “debuting” her post baby body and like Hilary, she was wearing a coat that pretty much hid everything but her see through blouse showing her boobs. It’s the way the press is with the celebs. First time out (with picture(s) published) is a “debut”.

      • Woofles says:

That’s kind of different. Being at a PMK party very dressed up isn’t exactly getting a breast pump in sweats.

      • K says:

The kardashians call and when it’s unflattering or invasive they use that to whine and cry about how horrible it is.

Hillary does do that and we know that because we don’t constantly see photos of her. So she was genuinely photographed on an errand and it was claimed to be a debut of her post baby body which in Hollywood is suppose to be back to a size 2 instantly. This was a mean and horrible thing that happened to her, not a planned event for simpathy like with kim.

I thought she cut her hair?

  3. Snazzy says:

She has a great attitude, and I with her (and you Kaiser!) on the whole marriage thing. I know it’s important for some people, and I respect that. Not for me though. I’m quite happy with the my life the way it is – including living with my boyfriend whom I absolutely consider to by my life partner – without needing to get married. Much to the chagrin of my ever invasive mother :P

  4. OSTONE says:

Our of all the child starts from the 00s, her and Mandy Moore seem to have it together and be the most grounded, regardless of their respective divorces. Never heard a drug rumor or “exhaustion” from either. I like Hilary, wish her the best!

  5. Dani says:

I really like her, always have, but her face looks so fixed? Her jaw is nothing like it used to be and it looks like she has chicken cutlets instead of cheek bones. And those veneers, ugh! Never liked them.

    • Anna says:

Pretty sure she’s had work done. (No shade here or anything, I know a lot of people do it.) If I remember correctly, she looked even more extreme right afterwards. It seems to have settled a little now and looks more natural.

  6. Turkey says:

I’m totally there too. About the marriage thing. It used to something I had to do. But now, I’m just like meh.

  7. kimbers says:

It’s not a big deal to not be married. Never wanted that life, but ladies dont expect to get the benefits bc nothing pisses me off then people who want their cake and ice cream then pie…and dont play house at 20…It’s hilariously fun to watch ..but ultimately sad when they have to fight over a dog or cat like their relationship was some epic one.

  8. Penelope says:

She’s really cute and appealing in Younger.

  9. ch2 says:

I think women are realizing that most men are of such low quality nowadays that it’s not worth it. I don’t think they ever were of high quality it’s just that women were conditioned to accept their lot in life. Some people don’t think that way anymore so I totally get it. And no I am not saying all men are bad… there are certainly a few gems… but not enough of them to go around for 4 billion women…

  10. Randomnews says:

I’m always surprised to see any coverage on her. But definitely harmless

  11. serena says:

I remember how mean the press was about her body after she gave birth, that’s awful! She seems really nice, I can’t help but still like her from the Lizzie McGuire show.

  12. iLoveMyPug says:

All I have to say about hil duff is those…damned…veneers…are HIDEOUS

  13. islandwalker says:

She’s on a show called Younger, going into it’s second season. Never watched it but just saw an ad with the cast.
