Macaulay Culkin shows us the fate of his Home Alone character & it’s not pretty

With the classic holiday film Home Alone celebrating its 25th anniversary this year (can you believe that?), you may be wondering whatever happened to Kevin McCallister after defeating the Sticky Bandits and being left out of not one but 2 family vacations?

Well, wonder no more. In the first episode of a new web series, called DRYVRS, Macaulay Culkin – who when not singing about pizza has been killing it in cameos playing himself on TV Land’s The Jim Gaffigan Show, reprises his beloved character, whose life has definitely taken a dark turn.

In the expletive-laden short (if you’re watching at work, you might want to have some headphones handy), writer-director Jack Dishel takes a ride with Mac/Kevin, who is driving for an Uber-like service. Kevin reveals his sad tale and has an interesting encounter with a would-be carjacker. In the video, Kevin says his Mom was too busy “being a groupie to some polka band” instead of being concerned as to her son’s whereabouts and still can’t believe his family left behind “the cutest 8-year-old in the f-ing universe.” He also mentions his wife “Anna” and warns Jack’s character to “never marry your childhood sweetheart.” Could he be alluding to My Girl‘s Anna Chulmsky?

Fun fact – series creator Jack is married to singer Regina Spektor and was part of the band Moldy Peaches, whose 2001 song “Anyone Else But You” was prominently featured in the 2007 movie Juno. Fun fact that will make you feel old, Macauley turned 35 this year. Time sure does fly, doesn’t it?

I do not know why, but I always feel sad when I see him nowadays. I am not very aware of his life other than he dated Mila Kunis for a while and was a huge child star.

    • KCAT says:

I feel the same way. I wish him the best. It’s not easy being a child star and trying to grow out of that mess. Good luck to him.

    • Naya says:

There was a widely reported heroine problem afew years ago too. He looks much better now though.

  2. Esmom says:

He really was the cutest 8 year old in the effing universe. Sigh.

  3. Wiffie says:

    :(

I don’t know what else to say.

  4. Willa says:

    Lmao!!!! That was great!!!!

  5. Josefina says:

A headline about Macaulay Culkin in 2015? Well, I guess pigs will start flying any moment now.

  6. Twink says:

Seeing him now, and comparing him to when he was a kid, you can see that he wasn’t going to be a handsome man, he was a cute kid but just because he was a kid.

    • Rainbow says:

If he wasn’t abusing his body all these years with drugs and alcohol, was eating healthy and was taking showers he would look a lot better.
Although i am sure his not so handsome appearance is the least of his problems. His health on the other side…

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think he would look fine if he would get a decent haircut and shave. He’s making himself look as awful as possible and I don’t understand why.

    • isabelle says:

He is cute is he was out in the normal world with the rest of us. Think a lot of women would like his look.

  7. FingerBinger says:

Isn’t Culkin the male version of Lindsay Lohan? He doesn’t have the criminal record of course but they’re very similar to each other.

    • mimif says:

Lindsay is in a league of her own. Culkin has had his issues but to compare him to Lohan is a huge stretch.

      • FingerBinger says:

They’re both former child stars with bad parents who’ve lost their way. It’s not really a stretch.

      • mimif says:

Well yeah, now that you’ve edited your original post, I can see your point. I think Macaulay is a decent guy despite his problems. That cannot be said for Lohan.

    • KCAT says:

Both have messed up parents and were childhood stars. That’s the only connection. He seems lovely and trouble. I hope he’s ok now. Btw, he gives me serious Thom York vibes with his look

  8. Rainbow says:

I feel so sad when i see him. He looks better than he used to look some years ago but he doesn’t look sober.
I wonder if he has financial problems….Home Alone was ages ago, even if he was paid well he hasn’t done anything after this.

  9. Christin says:

I just realized he looks like a cross between Kid Rock and Sissy Spacek (Carrie era).

  10. isabelle says:

From what I’ve seen him in as an adult, he is a pretty good actor. Actually wish we could see him in more films as an adult.

    • Pinky says:

His brother was just in Fargo. They are both good actors. Their parents were a mess and did a number on each/all of them. I wish all those kids the best.

      • Joaneu says:

I was wondering what Kieran was doing these days. Glad to hear he’s getting good work! He’s a great actor but his star never rose beyond a certain point after The Cider House Rules and Igby Goes Down. Anyone know why?

      • isabelle says:

…and Kieran he was really good in that 1st episode. Fargo, could just talk about it forever. What a great season!! It would be funny if the Coens did put Macauley in the 3rd one, seem like something they would actually do.

      • Fishfishbirdcats says:

I’m going to have to google the parent thing. I hope Macaulay continues to do well, I’ve always rooted for him.

  11. Breakfast Margaritas says:

He seems to have put on some weight. I’ll take that as a good sign.

  12. bcgirl says:

I always wonder about MJ when I see how Macaulay is living his life.

He seems really sweet, I hope he is happy.

    • M79 says:

Why wonder about MJ? Macaulay said countless times that he never did anything to him, and they remained great friends through the rest of his life. Macaulay was even at his funeral.

  13. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Echoing those who say thinking of/looking at him makes them sad.

  14. anne_000 says:

Am I sick for thinking this was funny?

Initially, I thought he was trying to act like Steve Buscemi while he was in the backseat.

Did the passenger stay to watch the torture? I thought he had to go somewhere.

  15. tacos and tv says:

Wow. Someone looks like they’ve been rode hard and put up wet! Geez. Talk about rough around the edges. But hey, he’s rich, had a solid career and now does whatever he wants for the rest of his life. I was in love with him. He was my first crush.

  16. Lexie says:

    Honk for Regina Spektor!

  17. go girl says:

I will always love him. He was a very sharp and charismatic kid. I wish him every happiness in the world. Now, stop smoking, Mac!

  18. IG says:

Hey, Regina Spector was not part of Moldy Peaches. that is kimya Dawson.

  19. Joaneu says:

@Corey – I’m thinking that his “never marry your childhood sweetheart” comment was probably directed towards his ex-wife Rachel Miner. They were both around 17 at the time of marriage. (I remember her well as a child actress on The Guiding Light soap.)
It seems that he’s playing a spoof of himself and mixing in a bit of his movie alter egos at the same time.

  20. Eru says:

So amazing. I wish he would act more. And he could if he wanted.

He is sad weirdo. But in harmless way.

  21. KiddVicious says:

I’m always happy to see him, it means he’s still alive. When it was rumored he’d moved in with Pete Doherty a few years ago I thought it would be the end of him. Glad to see it was either just a rumor or he wised up and didn’t stay with him for very long.
