Star: Mel Gibson, 59, took his 24-year-old girlfriend on a romantic getaway

We haven’t been covering Mel Gibson too much lately. I stopped writing about him at some point because those stories were super-depressing. Best case scenario: he’s an admitted woman-beater who got away with a slap on the wrist and he barely supports his ex-girlfriend and mother of his youngest child. Mel actually has seven adult children with his ex-wife, and we really don’t know if he’s close to those kids or if they even get to see their dad at all. But it looks like Mel is looking after another “kid” these days – he’s got a new girlfriend and she’s only 24 years old. Mel is 59. Oh no.

59-year-old actor Mel Gibson has been romancing a former world champion equestrian vaulter, who just so happens to be younger than five of his eight children. The 24-year-old’s name is Rosalind Ross, who began training as an equestrian vaulter (a sport that combines dance, theater and acrobatics on horseback) at age 9. In 2010 her team, the Free Artists Creative Equestrians, became the first U.S. team to win gold at the prestigious World Equestrian Games.

Despite her success, Rosalind left the sport behind to pursue a degree in writing, literature and publishing at Emerson College. The newcomer earned a spot on the 2014 Young & Hungry List, which highlights the top 100 on-the-rise writers to hit the Hollywood scene.

So how did these two love birds meet? Insiders say Mel was first introduced to Rosey when she signed on to cowrite a feature script for his company, Icon Productions.

And on June 16, Mel whisked his new leading lady away on an 11-day vacation in Central America. “They started their romantic getaway in Costa Rica, hiding out in Playa Barrigona, where he owns a 500-acre tropical sanctuary in the middle of the jungle, before heading to Panama,” says the source.

But friends say the divorced father of eight is looking to take things slow. “Mel hasn’t had the best luck with the ladies,” says a pal, “and he’s in no rush to turn his relatively new romance into a high-profile affair.”

[From Star Magazine]

You can see some photos of her at Star’s slideshow (her Instagram is protected, so I can’t post the photos). She looks much younger than 24. Here’s my question: what would a 24-year-old woman want with Mel Gibson? It’s not like he’s this international bon vivant. It’s not like he’s known for being charming and suave. I don’t even think he’s all that wealthy anymore, is he? He was always crying poverty when he was with Oksana and I think his ex-wife took him to the cleaners. So basically you have a 24-year-old who is willingly entering into a relationship with a 59-year-old broke-ass douche who beats women, has major alcohol problems, isn’t any kind of successful player anymore and he has a terrible personality. And Mel thinks HE hasn’t had the best luck? Sounds like Rosalind is the one with terrible luck.

I don’t understand what any woman would find redeeming about him let alone a 24 year old. She wasn’t even alive when he was hot. ;)

    • Dee says:

Yeah I’m usually sympathetic to huge age gaps. (My parents are 20 years apart) but 30 is my cut off. It’s just really creepy after that. Especially with this lunatic

    • Size Does Matter says:

Probably the only women who would date him are the ones who were too young to care about the past gossip about the irrelevant old guy when it was so heated a few years ago.

    • Toni says:

It depends on how young the younger partner is. If you’re 35-40 and decide to marry an older man–fine. You have a sense of yourself and maturity. But dating a 59 yr old when you problaby still have stuffed animals on your bed? She’s old enough to know has fame and money. Her mother probably was a big fan and talked to her a lot about him.

      • Neonscream says:

If you have stuffed toys on your bed you shouldn’t be in a relationship full stop. I have always found adult women who do that to be beyond creepy and if I was a dude it would be an instant boner killer.

    • Erinn says:

He’s older than my dad, and she’s younger than I am. It’s weird. I mean, sure, I’m 25. There are older actors that I find incredibly attractive. But… to look at, ya know? I can’t imagine dating someone with that much of an age gap because you’re just at hugely different points of your life.

    • Belle Epoch says:

      “…The newcomer earned a spot on the 2014 Young & Hungry List…”

Yep. She wants to make it as a writer in Hollywood and thinks she is dating a big star who will make her career. Can you imagine how people will react when he sends them her scripts?

Why do people take horrible shortcuts when they may well have what it takes to legitimately get what they want?

      • Margareth says:

The problem is that I can’t see what she can gain even in terms of a career boost. Gibson is a leper in Hollywood – it says a lot when you are too spectacularly douchey for a place where douchebagerry is the norm. In terms of money, Gibson is pretty stingy with the women in his life, see how he treated his Russian ex in their custody/ child support battle.

        So, I really don’t get it…

      • mary simon says:

He certainly didn’t do anything for Oksana’s “career”. He’s a vile, loudmouthed goon who has aged horribly – nothing redeeming about him.

      • Ama says:

It’s the kick of dating a celebrity.
And whats all this “who would date a d-bag like him?”. If women would not date d-bags, a-holes etc. and even had kids with them, they would be long gone and extinct.
And isn’t it nice to be taken to a nice vaccation to Costa Rica? I bet they didn’t fly Economy Class. He still has cash!!!!!
Come on ladies, let’s face it: some of the “sisters” bribable full length!

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

They find his millions of dollars attractive, and that’s all really.

    • sensible says:

He really was so handsome back in the day, and by that i mean Mad Max and earlier but its a case of the outside starting to match the inside. He is such a dick of a man and now he just looks…..creepy. If this chick is that dumb, then so be it.

    • EM says:

The answer is there: she is writing scripts for his company.

  2. Damn says:

He is like those MRAs shitheads who call every woman whores and sluts and complain about women as golddiggers yet they are only interested in women who are too young or too good looking for them but those women only date them when they are financially desperate.

  3. doofus says:

“Mel hasn’t had the best luck with the ladies,”

maybe he should stop beating and threatening them, then…

    • Damn says:

That’s too much to ask from a good Catholic like him.

      • mary simon says:

He has his own “catholic” church and he and his father are co-popes. They even declared his marriage annulled by their own authority. They are all powerful.

  4. Kiddo says:

I think he can absolutely be suave and charming. He built a career on that. And here’s your answer about her particular attraction, The newcomer earned a spot on the 2014 Young & Hungry List, which highlights the top 100 on-the-rise writers to hit the Hollywood scene.

    • Froggy says:

I agree Kiddo. Not what I’d want to be known for tho if I were her.

    • Susan1 says:

And he still has a lot of money $600M, more than half a Billion, is the estimate.

      • beanie says:

I was going to point this out Susan1, but you beat me to it. He is still extremely wealthy by any standards; I remember when his wife divorced him, and they had no prenup. Hundreds of millions were at stake, and people were calling Malibu CA ‘Melibu’. I thought he was older than 59, he looks it.

    • Kitten says:

      Suave, charming, and BATSHIT CRAZY.
I just don’t get how some women can overlook that part.

Like, all the f*cking charm and suaveness in the world cannot erase those recordings of him verbally berating Oksana from my mind.

That, the domestic violence thing, the racism, misogyny, homophobia and bigotry.
Oh, and let’s not forget the anti-Semitism.

Yeah, I wanna date THAT guy.

      • Kiddo says:

The 24 YO got her first real break from him, and I’d imagine, is quite sure that this time is different. Hell, Theron was an older woman when she thought she was the precious snowflake in Sean Penn’s world. It happens. And who knows if she shares some of his political or religious bents? Or least likely, but most hopeful, maybe he has changed.

      • Kitten says:

I get that she’s willfully ignoring his toxic personality because he’s a rich famous dude.

Just to clarify, my original reply to you was just to say that it’s hard for me to understand women like that. I don’t care enough about either of these people to seek a real explanation for their relationship. She’s free to enjoy Mel’s money until he inevitably loses his shit on her.

And on that note, there is no way this man has changed. Even years of intensive therapy cannot undo the deep-seated hatred that permeates every fiber of this man’s being.

      • Nikki says:

Kitten, you’ve said it all. Any number of dis qualifiers wrapped in one completely repulsive package!

      • Christin says:

A bit OTT, but Kiddo brought up Penn.

Look at Mel’s neck. Ham neck. Bright red ham neck.

        Carry on.

      • LizzyFizzy says:

My first thought was that, as an international child athlete who started at age *9*, she is probably well-accustomed to being bossed around by older male coaches. Not unlike those horror stories you hear from ice skaters or swimmers who struggle with eating disorders, sense of self, etc. as adults. When you’ve been micro-managed and worked for 40 hours a week in childhood, it messes you up.

    • kibbles says:

The reason why she is dating a much older racist and woman beater is because none of us knew her name or who she was until she started dating said woman beater. There are a lot of hungry women who will do anything for fame and fortune. Gibson still has more money than any of us here will ever have. He’s worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He still owns plenty of estate. And he still has plenty of connections in Hollywood even if those people do not publicly want their name associated with him. Despite Gibson’s downfall as an A-list actor, he can still help this young woman out a lot if he chooses to whether it be monetary, lavish gifts, or connections to help her land a great gig in Hollywood.

      • Amy Tennant says:

Yeah, I agree, but as I commented below, there are dangers involved with being with Mel and especially in breaking up with Mel! There are probably better golddigging options that don’t involve such a risk to your safety.

    • Crumpet says:

    • Belle Epoch says:

Sorry KIDDO – did not see your post!

  5. kri says:

Ah, the creep that keeps on creeping. I’m going to wish this lackwit the best of luck-she’s gonna need it.

  6. Jenns says:

I guess he thinks the younger they are, the less likely they are to know about him.

  7. Dana says:

Mel Gibson is still incredibly wealthy. His ex-wife got half (she supposedly received around $400 million), but that still leaves him with quite a huge chunk of change + all his real estate investments.

That said, I’m sure she’s mostly attracted to his deeply held Christian values.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

His brand of conservative Catholicism prohibits premarital sex. Yet somehow I don’t think they are studying catechism every night during their vacation. Hypocrite.

  8. sills says:

No fool like an old fool.

  9. NGBoston says:

OK, Mel @ almost 60 and a 24 y.o. is just plain GROSS. Borderline disturbing, as are all of Gibson’s documented personality disorders.

Still won’t take away though from him acting and directing in some of the greatest films of all time but it is common knowledge this Aussie is simply Douchetastic. Much like the other Aussiewho threw a phone at a Hotel Employee in a fit of rage and was sued for it.

    • XiuFetish says:

Neither of them is an Aussie! The douchetastic anti-Semite was born in the good ol’ U. S. of A. and the phone-thrower is a Kiwi.

I hate it when my wonderful country is associated with either of these wartholes.

      • beanie says:

        lolol, wartholes!

      • Neonscream says:

It’s kind of our fault though, we’re happy to adopt foreigners as “ours” when they’re hot, if you claimed them once you have to live with it. Also while Gibson was born in the US he was (and Im pretty sure still is) an Australian citizen. we have to take some of the blame. The Yanks can take the heat for Murdoch though as he renounced his citizenship for cash.

      • Alexa says:

@Neonscream I am pretty sure he never took out citizenship in Australia. He moved there when he was 12 and spent the next decade or so there. We did give him his start so we have to take responsibility for that (though who could have known then what an awful human being he would turn into) but I don’t think he considers himself Australian and has lived in America for decades now.

  10. Amy Tennant says:

I bet he still has money, and he definitely has fame. I can understand any woman being attracted to that. In most cases, one could think “ok, I’ll be with him for a while and spend his money and use his name, especially if we get married, and if it doesn’t work out I can always leave”. I’m not saying it’s ethical, but I can sort of understand the thinking. But with Mel, being with him might mean you get choked, and leaving him might mean you get death threats. I think the cons outweigh the pros in this instance.

    • Christin says:

It’s a huge gamble, indeed. It’s one thing to hear rumblings that a guy had a rocky relationship with someone else, but in his case it is out there for all to hear.

I’m not trying to age shame here, but I also think about how good he looked in the early 1980s. Seemed like a decent family guy, too. And she was *born* a decade later!

      • katie says:

I know right? All laid out and perfectly edited and you never hear anything from Oksana. Hmm…??! 😮 😅 For someone with such a BIG mouth you would expect to hear her arguing, wouldn’t you? Again…hmmm??!

  11. Margareth says:

Every time I see him, I remember how he screamed to his ex-girlfriend “I will burn your house… but you have to blow me first!”. How any woman would accept to be around him after that is beyond my understanding.

    • Kitten says:

Yup. Those tapes run through my head every single time. Pictures of Gibson actually invoke a visceral reaction from me. He is just so revolting on every level.

      • Wren33 says:

Same, I’m “only” 20 years younger than he is. I wonder if I could find him at all attractive if I hadn’t heard of all the awful, abusive stuff he has done. He is just so physically revolting to me now.

      • PennyLane says:

Wow, Mel Gibson used to be so incredibly good-looking…now, not at all.

When I saw the photo at the top of this page displaying his leathery, manic gaze I was reminded of the following quote:

“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”
        ― Roald Dahl

Mel Gibson has perfect bone structure, bright blue eyes, high cheekbones, straight white teeth, a full head of hair….and yet, he is ugly to look at.

      • Christin says:

When I see his photo, I think about that blow me – hot tub comment he made. Repulsive.

  12. Naddie says:

Maybe she’s an evil lady, who knows.

  13. frisbeejada says:

I’ve said this before but I only see Sid James from the old Carry On films when I see Gibbering Gibbo (as I like to call him) but without the charm…I don’t understand what any woman would see in this ar*ehole…

  14. Esmerelda says:

But what’s Star doing, writing this up as a fluffy piece of fluff? No reference to Mel’s past abusive behaviour, to the anti-Semitism… they just point out the age difference, as if that’s the biggest issue. Sketchy tabloid indeed.

  15. Talie says:

If she’s foreign, then it makes sense. A lot of these older movie stars still carry a lot of cache overseas.

    • Paul says:

Mel wouldn’t have to go foreign to find a hot young gf. When your an acting legend with 600 million in the bank you can still find millions of women who would go out with you in a second! Maybe not 99% of the women like back in his hey day, but still plenty plenty plenty!

  16. smcollins says:

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Mel used to be my #1 Hollywood crush back in the day, even making it my mission to watch every single one of his movies (and I mean ALL of them!). But after the whole DUI debacle, Oksana debacle, and just plain craziness I can’t with him anymore. I used to hold out hope that he would somehow redeem himself and make some kind of out-of-nowhere comeback, but I’ve since let let that silly idea go. I’ll still watch his movies (pre-controversies and abuse), but yeah…I’m done. Such a disappointment.

    • Jen says:

Oh my God he was SO hot back in the day… And his movies were always good. He used to give me goosebumps… Now I just want to vomit when I see his image. Leathery reptilian gross pervy racist woman hating old dried up fart.

      • BooBooLaRue says:

Yup, remember “Gallipoli” (1981) he was very compelling and of course “The Year of Living Dangerously” (1982) – smoldering.

  17. Toni says:

If you notice you don’t find many young women who are already established with fame and finances going after much older men. Its usually the up and comers or young women no one has ever heard who do. Young women like Paris Hilton and Athina Onassis Roussel never had the need or desire to date much much older men. They have their own money and place in society. You may not see men like Mel going after women their own age, but you don’t see going after rich established younger girls either. They don’t want women who have “baggage” (translation: women who cannot be easily swayed, are very independent, maybe a bit bitter, or yet experienced in life ). Older Men want an almost empty vessel (lack of experience, independence, and establishment in society)–so they can put their own load (bitterness, insecurities, relief from multiple partners of the past, aging issues) on them!

  18. kitty28 says:

Lol!!!! I’m sorry, but the whole Mel drama is hilarious to me to follow. Kind of sad, but entertaining. He’s all drugged and drunk and just drama. As for the girlfriend, there is always an idiot out there for another idiot no matter how bad they’ve done in life such far. I’d make out with him, No sex, just crazy drunk fun for a night….lol

    • anon33 says:

obviously you’ve never been beaten and raped by an alcoholic boyfriend before. let me assure you from personal experience, it isn’t “crazy drunk fun lol”

  19. angela says:

So let me get this straight… Melcand his much younger girlfriend disgust you…bit not Jeff Goldblume and his wife..who is 30 years younger…

    • Seapharris7 says:

I didn’t really read too much in the Goldblum article, but I know there were PLENTY of jabs at him having to nickname his kid, “Not my Grandson” because of his age. Plus I cannot recall hearing about Jeff beating any of his girlfriends, being abusively drunk/drugged, or claiming to be such a devote (insert any religion) then openly doing the opposite of what he preached. Those kind of things tend to make people upset.

    • INeedANap says:

Also Goldblum’s wife is in her 30′s, whereas this girl is 24. You grow a lot in your 20s, and presumably, a 30-some has a better handle on themselves and their lives than a young 20-some.

    • anon33 says:

Yeah, because Jeff Goldblum doesn’t beat and rape women. Just a thought.

  20. lassie says:

Perhaps she will be using this as the basis for her great novel. Hemingway, Salinger-they all suffered for their art. Here is her struggle.

  21. Sea Dragon says:

Maybe this isn’t a real relationship? She receives money and publicity, he looks like a stud (although, vomit) because people will think he’s still got it. I hope so, for her sake.

  22. Cupcake says:

SO gross. The only way to put a stop to this douchery is for young women to stop dating nasty old men. Women unite!!

  23. serena says:

Awwwwww… how disgusting… as anything always is with this lowlife woman-beating homophobic monster.

  24. Jessiebes says:

Last night I saw him in Leathal Weapon. Very old film now. He used to be so hot, even with a mullet. How he has fallen since then.

  25. noway says:

Mel’s still incredibly wealthy, like the 400-500 million dollar wealthy. His ex-wife has about the same amount too. He made so much money with Braveheart and Passion of the Christ. I used to like his movies, before we learned about his true personality. It’s so hard to separate the two now, all I see when I see him, even in movies I used to like is a creep. I am sure the money is the main attraction for the 24 year old. He looks okay at 59, but not amazing and he is kind of a small guy. I met him once in a hotel in NY years ago and was surprised at how short he was, and age has probably shortened him more along with other things.

  26. MSat says:

I wonder if she agreed to his terms as a girlfriend – which apparently are “YOU SHOULD JUST SMILE AND BLOW ME!”

  27. LA Juice says:

I have never heard of this equestrian vaulting shit, but it looks borderline abusive to the animals, and I say that having been a rider for 25 years and having practiced Roman riding at one point in my youth.

    it looks gross.

  28. Blackbetty says:

This woman needs to have a psych evaluation

  29. Margaret Khan says:

They do look very happy together
