NBC fired Donald Trump after he said most Mexican immigrants are rapists

wenn22598718

Donald Trump announced his presidential bid a few weeks ago. The announcement was a mess, his speech was nonsensical, and it was clear that this whole thing was going to be a massive political sideshow, and a blatantly offensive one at that. On the plus side, I think Trump’s numbers are better than Bobby Jindal’s! So at least there’s that. Anyway, Trump made some crazy comments about Mexican immigrants. He said, and this is a direct quote: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

As you can imagine, that went over like a lead balloon. Univision – the Spanish-language network owned by NBCUniversal – announced that they would be dropping the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, both owned by Trump. Univision and Trump traded barbs for a few days, and it was almost like Univision was telling NBCUniversal to get their act together and dump all of Trump’s programming completely. And that’s what happened yesterday.

Following Donald Trump’s inflammatory comments about Mexican immigrants during a speech announcing his candidacy for president, NBC will no longer be airing the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants.

“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” reads a network statement released to Deadline on Monday. “Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump. To that end, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump, will no longer air on NBC.”

Trump, 69, will also not be participating in The Apprentice, according to NBC, “as Mr. Trump has already indicated.”

[From People]

People goes on to note that the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants are quite popular and lucrative properties, but there have been many Latin American and South American winners over the years and the whole thing is no bueno. Anyway, Trump released a statement about NBCUniversal’s decision:

When speaking at an event Monday in Chicago, Trump said it was his decision to end the relationship. “They did not want me to run. They wanted me to do The Apprentice. And now with my statements on immigration — which happen to be correct — they are going to take a different stance and that’s OK. Whatever they want to do is OK with me,” said Trump. “As far as ending the relationship, I have to do that because my view on immigration is much different than the people at NBC.”

Additionally, Trump released a lengthy statement Monday in which he called NBC “weak” and “foolish,” and said that he told the network “long ago” that he would be stepping down from Celebrity Apprentice because of his campaign. In the statement, he also said that NBC’s “contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court.”

[From THR]

Real question: has Donald Trump lost his mind? I mean, he’s been crazy for a while, for sure, and he’s always been petty, disgusting, racist and misogynistic. But it feels like he really lost the thread at some point and no one is really saying, “Hey, Donald, maybe you should be medicated? Let’s go see a doctor.”

maybe TLC should be taking notes!

    • original kay says:

yes, this was my first thought as well. why are children who were/are abused expendable? why has the duggar show not been cancelled yet?

    • doofus says:

thought the same thing yesterday. this d-bag makes an ethnic slur and he’s out.

the other family covers up for a molester and they’re NOT cancelled yet?!

      TLC, you are SHAMEFUL.

    • LadyMTL says:

I think if someone who works for / has a show on TLC decides to run for Prez, that’s when they’ll act, lol. I mean, good for NBC for firing this loser but this isn’t the first time he’s been offensive, bigoted, and so on. It’s only now that Trump is in the running that they finally cut ties.

      • Kitten says:

Well the campaign explains why he wouldn’t do what is essentially a hosting gig like The Apprentice but it’s pretty clear that he alienated a huge portion of the Miss America audience with his comments. And not just the MA audience, I think a lot of people were offended when he said that sh*t.

Also, I agree about TLC. They are just disgusting.

      • Lady D says:

Kitten, do you think that will be enough to keep him from being successful in court against NBC?

      • Kitten says:

I don’t know, Lady D. It really depends on the fine print in their contract with Trump. I assume it contains language that makes their agreement contingent upon Trump upholding a viable public image. I say “viable” because NBC has always been aware of Trump’s not-so-sterling reputation. They hired him to be a cantankerous, bloviating, arrogant loudmouth. NBC probably expected that he would satisfy the bare minimum when it comes to his public image, like, DON’T be a racist.

Anyway, NBC is likely more than confident in their chances if they fired Trump so quickly. I’m sure they had their lawyers review that contract with a fine-toothed comb.

    • Nicole says:

Phenomenal point. THIS is how you deal with racism. Why wouldn’t it be how you deal with a child abuse scandal? Insane.

  2. GPSB says:

Good move, NBC. Now uncancel “Hannibal.”

    • Loopy says:

I heard its getting cancelled. I zoned out by the middle of season 2

      • GPSB says:

Technically it wasn’t a NBC show – NBC just paid a licensing fee ($185,000 per episode) to air it; however, the international company that produces it does want a U.S. presence, so an online streaming option has to be found for them to opt to continue production. Right now it’s about 50/50 that they’ll make a deal.

Anyways, you checked out too soon. The season two finale is a masterpiece.

    • funcakes says:

I’m distraught over not being able to watch the wonderful mads mikkleson wreak havoc with everyone that steps in his path.

    • funcakes says:

Best scene so far this season …..Hannibal reciting Dante to embarrass the snotty member of the board that resents him…..well not anymore.(insert ghoulish laugh here)
      Okay back to Trump.

  3. Who ARE these people? says:

    Ok, I’ll do it.

    “You’re fired.”

  4. doofus says:

*pointing and laughing like Nelson Muntz*

    HA HA!!!!!!

  5. MariaTR says:

Hateful, hateful man. I love that the “free market” has spoken and dumped his bloated, orange butt.

    • Kiddo says:

It would be nice if there was an employee uprising. How many of these ‘rapist’ Mexicans do you think work at low wages for any one of Trump’s businesses, like golf courses or hotels?

      • Carol says:

        Oh Snap! Good point!

      • Lady D says:

Unfortunately they are all probably as dependent on their jobs as most of us are. I think a better idea would be to take an accurate count of the amount of MA employees he really has. I think the numbers would seriously embarrass him, assuming he could feel shame.

      • Dhavynia says:

@kiddo maybe not in Mexico yet but here in Miami some county commissioners called for Miami to snub his hotel here. I hope something good comes out of it

  6. bopit says:

This whole GOP presidential race is a sideshow, not just Trump. What are we up to now, 14 candidates?!

  7. Lilacflowers says:

When do the presidential primary debates begin? This will be epic.

    • PunkyMomma says:

Yep. Tons and tons of popcorn. I’m going to miss Michele Bachmann, though.

      • Lilacflowers says:

She could still announce. The NH primary isn’t until February.

      • Tate says:

OMG…. I tuned into every debate the last go around. So much entertainment

      • funcakes says:

Funny how she always had her husband hidden away. Most politicians had their spouse out front for photo ops.

He always seemed like a fun kooky guy.

  8. BengalCat2000 says:

I’m so glad NBC got rid of this douche. His remarks were so inherently offensive but I don’t see him changing his stance. Good luck with that Presidential bid, you mean-spirited turd!

  9. DanaG says:

At least he brings comic relief he hasn’t got a hope in hell let him waste his own money he claims he doesn’t need anyone else’s to run. I’m glad he has been taken to taste but he seriously thinks he is right which is really scary! The man is an idiot when is all his dirty laundry going to come out I seem to remember his first wifes book talking about hookers and all sorts of things.

  10. OSTONE says:

So happy he is gone from our TVs! The funniest thing is that while he may believe what he says, he is mainly going on a tirade about Mexicans because a deal for a huge trump resort in Mexico just fell thru not too long ago. So his sore butt is lashing out.

  11. Mia4S says:

Well done NBC and everyone else breaking ties.

I’m seriously beginning to wonder about his mental health. For a man who likes to be “popular” he has to realize….no maybe not. I feel for his children, this must be humiliating.

    • GPSB says:

He’s always been like this and god forbid anyone “cross” him, he threatens to sue, regardless of whether he has any standing. He’s bananas – on top of being creepy, gross and misogynistic – and it’s puzzling why it has taken so long for people to notice to the point where they realized it was best to cut ties.

  12. Jayna says:

You described him perfectly. “Petty, disgusting, racist and misogynistic.”

  13. michkabibbles says:

The saddest (scariest?) think is, if you read comments on other sites, there are A LOT of people who agree with him. Probably not enough to get him elected, but still.

    • funcakes says:

It’s scary when I leave this comment section to read the ones on other sites.
It just disheartening to read some of the thought of the intellectually starved individuals that wander the earth disguised as human beings.
If you disagree with immigration policies fine. But mixed in with xenophobia is unfathomable.

      • Kitten says:

Yeah I just refuse to read the comments section anywhere else. It affects me in such a visceral way. Just too depressing.

When I want to feel about good about life I just go on IG and scroll through all the pics of cats and dogs.

    • Lara K says:

That’s why I don’t think it’s a mental health thing. There are a lot of people with the same mentality.
He just has the finances to go public in a big way.
I don’t think he has a snowball’s chance of getting elected, but it’s still sad that he is doing so well in the polls (relatively speaking).

    • belle de jour says:

In some ways, this is similar to watching an old hoary dinosaur lash out his claws in the later stages of his own extinction, fighting off imaginary enemies everywhere, stumbling confused and roaring at everything in a changing environment he no longer understands or for which he is even equipped to survive and thrive anymore.

      • Kiddo says:

Was there a species of dinosaur that carried marmots on their heads? I’m fascinated by this symbiotic relationship, I never heard of it. Did they do a bit about it in the new Jurassic Park?

      • belle de jour says:

@Kiddo: yes, a Disney buddy sidekick relationship gone horribly, horribly wrong.

Or is that actually Michele Bachmann on his head?

      • doofus says:

you two are cracking me up.

      • Lilacflowers says:

It is blond. More likely Ann Coulter than Michelle Bachman

      • Kiddo says:

It used to be orange, like his skin. But I bet all the blood got sucked out of it.

    • Bell says:

Trumps polling numbers are strong for the first primary, New Hampshire, which historically influences all of the other polls. I don’t think those who support Trump are racist. I just believe there are so many voters who do not want another Bush or Clinton.

      • doofus says:

yeah, but polling numbers mean diddly squat right now.

recall that the last go around, just about EVERY GOP candidate was “in front” at some point, including Bachmann and Cain.

      • carol says:

I think so too. I think many people like what they heard him say about business and trade. I think other politicians have more of the racists vote even after what Trump said about Latinos.

  14. lucy2 says:

Finally NBC does something right. They’ve been on a streak of wrongs for a while now.
Those comments were disgusting, and I’m glad the companies are cutting ties with him over it. I think his ego is so massively overblown that he thinks there are no consequences to things he says and does.

  15. Kym says:

    Yeah, that will do it!

  16. Size Does Matter says:

Does he honestly believe the Mexican government selects the immigrants and “sends” them? Like it sends a bus around and gathers people up and then dumps them out and has them walk through the desert or scrub? Or maybe packs them into the back of trailers like cattle and sends them that way? SMDH.

  17. darkdove says:

He should save his money for his gold digger wife glad he got fired

    • Pandy says:

Ah yes, Melania! She’s so warm and fuzzy, she’d be a fantastic FLOTUS!!! Can you imagine?

  18. Mimz says:

    Mess.

I also think he’s been acting like he’s lost the little sanity he had left.

  19. anne_000 says:

Trump basically said the same thing about Mexicans as Dylann Roof said about Blacks, “They rape our women and ruin our country.” Btw, this type of statement is a time-worn standard used by White racists against anybody of color.

When Trump says he assumes some Mexicans might be good people, it’s just a back-handed insult. It’s like he’s saying he’s not sure, but they might be, but you never know because you know… they’re basically rapists and country-ruiners….

  20. OhDear says:

Despite NBC and Univision’s actions, I’m surprised that his comments haven’t been publicized and condemned more. Yikes.

  21. TheOtherMaria says:

Ugh, he’s an ass, that is all….

  22. Nebby says:

So horrible and racist what he said. I think what made it even worse for me was that Dylan Rooff used a line very similar earlier that week “black people are raping our women”. It’s the same lie racist whites have been using forever to keep miniorites down. Unfortunately rapist come from all races and genders, and rape/crime in general is intraracial. Miniorites do not hold a monopoly on horrible acts. So glad he is off tv, he’s been misognist and racist forever but for him to use that line just days after a domestic terrorist used the same thinking it was just too much… Actually he’s always been too much.

  23. Thomas Bush says:

    You’re fired, cabron!

  24. Lis says:

He is living proof that money doesn’t buy class. Wish he would retire so we don’t have to see him in any form of media ever again.

  25. Triple Cardinal says:

Why hasn’t The Donald been taken to see a therapist? Strictly because of the money.

    Poor people are crazy.
    Rich people are merely…eccentric.

  26. Judd says:

Poor, NBC! They got their feelings hurt…. Trump should buy NBC.

    • anne_000 says:

It’s OK to feel disgusted and turned off by White racists who keep using this time-worn insult against people of color: “They rape our women and ruin our country.”

If more people reacted negatively to such statements, then maybe they would have somehow stopped Dylann Roof years ago (and who said the same insult against Blacks) in his racist route to becoming a mass murderer.

    • FingerBinger says:

Trump should buy NBC so he can run into the ground. They’ll declare bankruptcy like some of his other companies and they’ll be no more nbc . That’s brilliant.

  27. mia girl says:

So glad this spun-sugar-haired clown is seeing the free market response to his racist bullshit.

Side note Kaiser (feel free to remove from my comment)
NBCUniversal actually owns Telemundo not Univision. The only connection was that Univision was going to carry the Miss USA pageant for the first time (which Trump and NBCU co-own).

Univision is actually co-owned by Mexican broadcast giant Televisa, who have now announced that they will no longer be sending a Miss Mexico to compete in the Miss Universe pageant in protest.

  28. Saks says:

As my grandpa would say “Que bueno por cabrón, ¡A chingar a su madre!”
(Translation: “Thats what you get for being an awful person, now I kindly ask you to leave” :P )

  29. Irene says:

Not surprised NBC is dumping him. I used to work for a TV ratings company, and the Hispanic viewers were the most important ones to advertisers. Whatever the reason, the TV stations would make us jump through ridiculous hoops to get as much Hispanic viewing info as possible.

    • anne_000 says:

I would think anybody hired by any TV network who goes around saying ‘they rape our women, they’re ruining our country, all they do is commit crimes and sell drugs, some might be good people but we just don’t know for sure” would be fired, not just because of the advertising dollars but because it just looks so bad paying them any salary as part of their affiliation to the network.

      • Kitten says:

Agreed. Also, it bears repeating that it wasn’t only the “Hispanic” viewers that were offended by his statements.

What he said was idiotic and insulting to a lot of people.

      • anne_000 says:

        @ Kitten

Yup. You’re right. Anybody with any good sense would be offended by his statements.

  30. qtpi says:

It came out yesterday he was only ever a hired actor on apprentice. Wonder how many shots he was really calling on there. Or if it was all Mark Burnett.

  31. Anastasia says:

Any time I see him speak, and see that little weird mouth move, it looks like a weird butthole, and I feel sick to my stomach.

    • Giddy says:

I saw a description either here or on Gawker a few days ago that I still laugh over…that his head looks like a ham with a merkin on top! Also, I love to imagine how frustrated and angry Bobby Jindal and Rick Perry are that Trump is so high above them in the polls!

    • pinetree13 says:

I cannot unsee that now. You are right. His mouth does look like an anus. o.O

  32. Dr.Funkenstein says:

News flash, big mouth. Mexico isn’t “sending” us anyone. People come here to look for work because they’re desperate for a better life or to improve the lives of their families back home. They don’t even necessarily want to live here. They already HAVE a home, baldy. Sure, there are plenty of criminals among every racial group, especially the Caucasians, the top level of which have robbed this country blind and continue to do so every day with great glee. You should know them pretty well, Don, since you’re looking at one in the mirror every time you take that weed-eater to that failed rats’ nest you call a coif. So do us all a big favor and use some of that hot air to inflate the gold lame hemorrhoid cushion you got from your last wife as a parting gift and shove it right up your intellectual blowhole.

  33. kri says:

He sounds totally nuts. WTF? Like a strange-haired Charlie Sheen or something. Go away, Donald. You have some free time. Go on a looooooooong retreat somewhere far away.

  34. bcgirl says:

Will another network pick up those 2 hopelessly outdated pageants, or will that crap finally become a part of the PAST?

gotta say I love it when idiots out themselves.

    • carol says:

That was exactly my first thought!!!!!! How the heck we still have beauty pageants rankles my mind. Hopefully, maybe this will be the beginning of a quick end for these antiquated shows.

      • Pumpkin Pie says:

        I agree with you.
The sad reality is that there are so many young girls who want to participate in pageants, and obviously win, and who believe that their only chance to a career in tv/movies/modelling is to become a beauty queen. There are girls whose purpose in life is to become a beauty queen. Sad sad sad. Even worse, tragic.

  35. wow says:

I love when racists are so blatant and really show their a$$ like Trump does. Then you don’t have to “wonder” if they are truly that much of an idiot. You’ll just automatically KNOW that they are.

  36. Pumpkin Pie says:

Who would ever trust him as a president when he’s making comments like that? He is absolutely disgusting, he shows no respect, no knowledge, no political sense What-So-Ever!!
And there is no coming back from such statements, IMO.

  37. G says:

Mexico won’t let him develop over there. The land belongs to the Government

  38. Veronica says:

White politicians are going to have to face the reality that “minority” voters make up an increasingly powerful segment of of the population. Alienate them at your own risk.

  39. Caz says:

Watching the US presidental race from O/S with amused bewilderment. Trump is not universally admired and we can’t believe he is being taken seriously. Why is he running..what’s in it for him is the only question.

  40. feebee says:

Technically he said they’re all rapists. He didn’t say some of them are bringing drugs, some of them are rapists. He said they’re rapists. Then he tacked on the end (after an out-of-character nanosecond of self awareness) that some he ‘assumes’ are good people.

No, Trump. F.U. Presidential politics is for the big boys and girls. His mouth is too big, his brain too addled, he is a liar and cheat (in more ways than one). He sees only his big mug in any reflection, he is a disgrace. He is the bottom of the barrel and that’s a tough thing to be in the current pool of candidates.

  41. Whatever Gurl says:

Such xenophobia for a man whose first and third wives are foreign-born. Odd, no?

  42. jwoolman says:

People like Trump (including politicians) were saying the same garbage about my Irish ancestors back in the early 1800s. We’re still here….

Does The Donald realize that something like 17% of Americans identify as Hispanic? Of course, maybe he doesn’t care since they’re not in the percentage stupid enough to vote for him.
