Taraji, Maggie & more: who was the best dressed at the Critics Choice Awards?

Here are some photos from last night’s Critics Choice TV Awards, which… if I’m being honest, I totally didn’t know they were happening last night. When Game of Thrones is on, it’s like I have blinders on. But it really did feel like there wasn’t a lot of advanced promotion for this, right? In any case, the Critics Choice recognized many of the up-and-coming shows and actors, which makes it a lot more enjoyable than the Emmys. Some of the big winners last night? Silicon Valley, Amy Schumer, Olive Kitteridge and more – you can see the complete winners list here. We’ll just be covering some of the fashion, like this Alexander Wang dress on Taraji P. Henson. Taraji won Best Actress for Empire, so it would have been great to see her in an amazing dress. This Alexander Wang is not all that amazing. I mean, it’s fine. But it doesn’t feel special enough.

Here’s Maggie Gyllenhaal in Alexander McQueen. This was honestly one of my favorite looks. It’s really beautiful on her.

Angie Harmon in Christian Siriano. The cut is too low, right? The print is pretty though.

Jaimie Alexander in Halston. I like this, but it only really works on a tall, slender woman like Jaimie.

Anna Faris in pink (ID unknown). Pretty. I’ve been worried about her bangs for a while, but they don’t look too bad here.

Gina Rodriguez looked lovely in this.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Carolina Herrera. Ew. It’s like Herrera was trying to make a Herve Leger dress and just added some weird gold glitter on the bust.

Lorraine Toussaint – Lorraine won for her role on Orange Is the New Black. I suspect she’ll be winning a lot of awards for that role.

And finally, Josh Holloway. I like Josh a lot but he doesn’t look great here.

Yikes, I don’t love any of these looks. Completely disagree about Maggie, think she looks awful. Like, going to prom in Florida bad.

    • joan says:

Totally agree — everyone looks off.

And the awards were off, too. Veep loses to whatever that was that won?

It was weird. There were fun moments but also really awkward ones, like Terry Crews and his costar, who’re really funny but not last night.

Jeffrey Tambor’s speech was the highlight of the night, however.

Lorraine Toussaint´s Girls look very uncomfy to me.
    Gina Rodriguez looks Lovely!

  3. Naddie says:

Maggie and Jaimie are the best. I love how Jaimie makes this dress look beautiful, when in fact it’d look terrible in most women.

    • Franca says:

Yeah, I was just about to write the same thing. I find Maggie so beautiful. I love her.
I would love Jaimie’s dress even more if it wasn’t longer on the sides.

Taraji is so pretty, but has such horrible fashion sense.

    • kaligula says:

      +1 I concur exactly.

Taraji has such talent what she wears is irrelevant, I overlook her red carpet absurdities the same way I overlook January Jones’s.

Angie Harmon for best hair and makeup though…plus, talk about blessed genetics. Geez, she is just a true beauty.

  4. Sarah says:

    I love Gina’s dress.

  5. Tig says:

Gina’s dress-very nice. Angie Harmon-that is one mess-looks like she’s a sneeze away from being topless!! And Josh looks much better with longer hair.

  6. Audrey says:

Yikes. Josh Holloway is not aging well

  7. QQ says:

Maggie’s Hair Looks TERRIBLE… Shape it or Trim the Sides Or… Something! dear Lord

Lorraine Is the Only Winner of this situation TBH

  8. AG-UK says:

I like Maggies dress the colour suits her and her make up is nice I don’t mind her hair as a person who had a pixie cut for ages it’s so hard to grow out. She could tuck the hair behind her ears I suppose.

  9. Dante says:

Jaimie and Gina look great. Maggie looks like she has consumption, total makeup fail. The dress looks great and the hair doesn’t suit her face.

  10. taxi says:

Maggie & Angie both look as if their dresses are about to slide down. Bad boob fits.

    • kaligula says:

But Angie is wearing “the Bardot”! Off-the-shoulder look which is going to be so in this summer, apparently! There may be a lot of “bad boob fits”, to use your phrasing ;) ahead of us this summer here on cB!!

  11. norah says:

what the heck is wrong with these outfits >? yikes

  12. kri says:

For me it’s Gina and Lorraine. I thought Josh Holloway was Olivier Martinez or the other one.

  13. Lama Bean says:

So glad Lorraine Toussaint is getting her due credit! I remember her from so many years ago.

    • Pace U. says:

Yes in movie w Bridget Fonda, she made the scenes for me in that film. Always loved her since that movie w Bridget Fonda and Gabriel Bryne.
