Marie Osmond on how she stays ‘young-looking’: genetics, attitude & water

Marie Osmond promotes her cosmetic line 'Too Faced' at Ulta Beauty
Star Magazine has a new interview with Marie Osmond, 55, in which she’s promoting her new tour, An Intimate Evening with Marie Osmond and Friends. She’s been performing in Vegas at The Flamingo with her brother, Donnie, for seven years to date and they recently cut back their performances. Star asks Marie about her career, her family, her on-again relationship with her husband, and her diet and fitness routine. My favorite quotes, the ones referenced in the title, are about how she stays so “young looking.” The obvious answer is regular visits to her dermatologist for injections. I mean I like Marie and she seems like a sweet person (she’s also gone through so much in her life), but this is the obvious answer. Instead, she talks at length about loving herself and drinking water.

How do you stay so young-looking?
Genetics obviously plays a part, but I truly believe that attitude is No. 1. You can do everything to look good on the outside, but if you’re not happy on the inside, it shows. I’m also a huge advocate of water; I drink 10 large glasses a day. I have no problem with aging. But what’s sad is people who want to be 30 when they’re 50. I have four beautiful daughters, and I want them to be healthy in their thought patterns and love themselves.

Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond
This is how Marie looked (above) in 2006, so while genetics and water are her go-to excuses it’s more down to whatever she’s getting done. No shade for that specifically, it’s her choice, but she shouldn’t just completely ignore it. If Marie said “I have had some work done, but…” or “I have had Botox in the past,” it would have been a decent hedge and then she could freely talk about her personal philosophy on loving herself. Instead, she sounds out of touch, and she’s calling it “sad” that people “want to be 30 when they’re 50.” What is she referring to exactly? That sounds like a plastic surgery reference.

Are all 10 of those glasses drank in her plastic surgeon’s office?

    • Esmom says:

      Seriously. Oh Marie.

    • Renee says:

Staahp. I can’t laugh out oud at your comment because I have a headache.

    • Santia says:

For real. We all saw her a few years ago when her eyebrows were at her hairline from the most recent facelift. People think that if they something often and loud enough, people will believe it.

      • AntiSocialButterfly says:

This, precisely. A tactic used the world over, from politicians and leaders to actors to the average citizen or spousal liar. She is so sliced and diced and pulled, lasered, peeled and filled, omg.

      • Dagmarunger says:

Now that her facelift has settled, she can put out the bs about her beauty regime. Fillers and Botox would not have helped pre-facelift!!!

      • holly hobby says:

Oh yeah I remember those photos. It was for the Walk of Fame or handprints. Both Donnie and Marie were there. She looked “surprised” in all the photos. I saw them in People magazine. Please she had work done, own it.

    • sills says:

LOL! Who is she kidding? At least get out there and own it like Joan Rivers or Jane Fonda, we ain’t blind, honey.

    • Judyk says:

Precisely. And I hate that Nutri System ad where she says her mom told her if she didn’t lose weight, she’d end up exactly like her. Uh, no, your mom never said that, Marie, and I turn that idiotic commercial off each time it’s on.

    • TeaAndSympathy says:

Teehee! Well, she is 55, so perhaps her memory has begun to fade?

    • Hibbccdv says:

      Botox and collagen injections.

    • Shaz says:

      hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

  2. minx says:

And lots of Botox, fillers, lip collagen, rhinoplasty, face lifts, eye job.
    Puh leeze.

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

    Right. Water. Got it.

  4. HK9 says:

…and the local plastic surgeon on speed dial

  5. rachel says:

Yeah, she’s all natural. How naive does she think people are? Jeez..

    • hadlyB says:

When talking to people at work – it’s unreal how much they will actually believe anything a celeb says, whats written in an article or on some reality show. They take it as the TRUTH.

It’s so bizarre. And there is no arguing with them. I just walk away from stupidity at that point.

  6. aims says:

Her face looks so tight it looks uncomfortable. You can drink as much water you want and think happy thoughts until the cows come home and you’re not going to get results like that.

  7. Ginger says:

On one hand, it is partly genetics since all of the Osmonds look young for their age. BUT she most definitely has had something done even if it’s just Botox. Maybe it’s 50/50. I don’t believe for a second that it’s just water and loving yourself.

    • hadlyB says:

Not to mention you can be healthy all your life by not drinking, no drugs, eat healthy but STRESS will kill you and age you faster than the sun. And she has had more stress, stressful times in her life for sure. I feel bad losing a child that way but damn, don’t lie. No one cares!

    • DrM says:

she looks ”pulled” particularly around the eyes and forehead. Just own the facelifts Marie…

  8. Miss Melissa says:

…and a little botulinum toxin in the face.

Granted, her Mormon lifestyle of never drinking, drugging or smoking probably gives her good elasticity…

Helps the surgeon hide the scars better.

  9. LDUB says:

    GURL!
please have SEVERAL seats…..presumably at your surgeon of choice’s office.

  10. bella says:

i like marie, too, but as my fellow posters say…
    PLUUUUEEEEZZZZ
i’d have more respect for her if she’d just own that she has had and continues to have work done.
does she not realize that it’s obvious?

  11. kri says:

This is the same water Kim, Nicole, Naya et. al dink, correct? I thought my Fiji water had alot of silica in it-this water must have alot of silicone.

  12. wonderwoman21 says:

Lol okaaay Marie. Her face not only looks smooth but rather taut.

  13. Christin says:

I have always liked Marie, but I have to call her out on this one. There were photos taken of her a few years ago that made it obvious she’d done something.

Her face has settled a bit since then, but I don’t buy that genetics and water are to be credited.

  14. Peggy says:

    Liar, liar pants on fire.
Soon plastic Surgeons are going to start leaking before and after pictures.

  15. Green Eyes says:

I have more respect for those that say “hey yes I have good genes, but I also have touch ups here & there w/ injections in between my surgical procedures”. I mean it’s her right to say what she did… But let’s be real. I Woukd take Joan’s honesty any day on any other matter because she kept it real on things she could have lied about. Morgan Fairchild wants you to believe she is the real Benjamin Buttons 70+ w/ a 20 something year old face, she didn’t even have when she was 20 something. Sad that anyone though is made to feel the need to take those measures period though. Vanity.. It is a bitch.

  16. smcollins says:

I’m in agreement with all of you. Diet, exercise, and drinking lots of water (and, yes, genetics) certainly help, but her real weapon is plastic surgery. Lots and lots of plastic surgery.

  17. Ellen says:

So, wanting to BE thirty is bad, but wanting to LOOK 30 is good?

Look, fine if you don’t to acknowledge the question. Just decline to answer it, and make sure your publicist lays down that law. THIS is just all kinds of lying stupidity.

  18. Happy21 says:

Yet another celebrity who obviously thinks we are both blind and stupid. I’m so sick of these celebs thinking that they are fooling us when really they come across as looking like total and complete jackasses because they actually have the nerve to lie about something so obvious.

  19. MrsBPitt says:

One of my friends is of the Mormon faith, and has never had any caffeine or alcohol, and she looks fantastic. I even find when, when I’m dieting and stop all caffeine and booze, my skin looks better, so I can imagine NEVER having any would be a big help. THAT BEING SAID….Marie’s skin is pulled so tight, her eyes almost meet in the back of her head!!!!!!! She looks good, but the plastic surgery is sooooo obvious. I’ll give her this, she didn’t come right out and say that she has never had any surgery, so technically, she wasn’t lying!

  20. WardLittell says:

Yikes. She looks so much older than 55, having chosen The Look ( Jackie Collins, that Victoria from Dallas, etc) that older women got fixated on in the 80s, thinking it expressed teh Sexy and Glam.

  21. Jessica says:

Years ago, around the time Marie was on Dancing with the Stars (2006-ish?), I worked at a Victoria’s Secret in Provo, Utah, where she is from and has a home. She came in one day looking for a sports bra before all VS carried sports bras, so it was a brief interaction that was like, “Sorry Ma’am, I don’t have that, best of luck.” But I did talk to her face to face for like a full minute. And 1) She’s a tiny petite person. I’m 5’6″ and I was probably in heels at the time, but my guess is that she’s around 5″0″ (I was shocked, I had no idea she was that petite.)
    2) She totally has had botox since, and/or all of these photos have been retouched. At the time, she had beginnings of the classic “11″ between the eyebrows, and the lines around the mouth.
She looked like someone who took care of her appearance, but was her age. (And this was a very casual encounter for her– she was in workout clothes.)

23. Lisa says:

    What, no Nutrisystem plug?

  24. lucy2 says:

They forgot a few lines: “I truly believe that attitude is No. 1 (and my attitude is plastic surgery is A-OK!). ”
“I’m also a huge advocate of water; I drink 10 large glasses a day. (I have to pee a lot, but the ladies room at the surgeon’s office is so nice).”
“I have no problem with aging (it’s reversible if you have the money to have your face pulled tighter than a drum!).”

She actually looked pretty good in 2006, but whatever sort of eyebrow transplant has happened since then is not flattering. And it’s such a shame because she always did look so youthful, she probably would have continued aging just fine.

  25. WardLittell says:

Ah, she was misquoted. She said ‘Altitude’…..up where the air is clear and thin, we speak the Nonsense Stuff.

  26. Tracy says:

Oh Marie. How disappointing. It ain’t the surgery people will criticized, it’s the LYING BY OMISSION.

    Come on!

  27. OriginallyBlue says:

    Holy makeup Batman!!

  28. The other paige says:

But really-After seeing that picture with Donny, they will still be doing their act when they’re in their 80′s….

  29. belle de jour says:

Well, I like the top photo; evidently, she’s still just a little bit country… and a little bit rock n roll.
Always be closing. Such a sly boots.

  30. Jordan says:

That’s more than fillers. She’s had surgery. Not knocking her and they did a nice job, but no amount of facials, water and exercise will get you her face as the result.

  31. Denise says:

Deny it or skirt the question, a lot of celebs do that so whatever. But to go one further and say “I have no problem with aging. But what’s sad is people who want to be 30 when they’re 50″? That is full-on delusion, insulting the people who are….YOU!

  32. celtlady says:

Own your plastic surgery and fillers, Marie.
You no longer really look like the same person. You are lovely, but it is obvious that you have done more than drink water!

  33. Tessy says:

I don’t put my finger on who that looks like now, but it sure isn’t Marie Osmond. Now she looks like a generic real housewife of some generic place.

  34. Flower says:

Oh my!……she looks like one of her porcelain dolls, nothing like her old self, I thought at first it was that lady judge with the ear shattering voice on ‘So you think you can dance’ .

  35. Chrissy says:

Those fake lips are so awful and don’t make her look young. Water does not puff your lips up. Lips do not puff up from aging either. Very fake.

  36. LAK says:

Whoever does her make up, whatever the era, should be sacked.

  37. Iheartgossip says:

…………and botox and fillers and plastic surgery and liposuction and sonobello -

  38. So sick of these celebs telling us that the secret to their looks is drinking water and yoga. In Marie’s case, its water, yoga, a facelift and neck lift or two, a definite rhinoplasty, fillers, and I’m guessing an upper and lower blepharoplasty based on these latest photos.

    But yeah…water.
