Benedict Cumberbatch has ‘no regrets’ about Sophie & the Cumberbaby

131189PCN_WeinsteinParty_48

Benedict Cumberbatch has two new interviews, and thankfully there’s nary a mention of “colored actors” (although he does call himself a “white boy” at one point). I was going to excerpt from his Rolling Stone interview, but it’s kind of boring – you can read it here. He literally says that “Alan Turing should be on bank notes” line for the millionth time. The LA Times piece was a lot better, perhaps because they spoke to Bendy in person. He wore a Pink Floyd t-shirt and sat by a fire pit, watching movie stars wander around Palm Springs. That’s seriously the setting for this LAT piece. Some highlights:

Acting silly at awards shows: “I’m drunk. That’s not actually true. I wish I could blame the evils of alcohol and say, “Kids: Don’t go there.” But that … happens when I’m sober. It would have happened. And I say “drunk,” but I had a little slurp of a tiny miniature. It was just the high of the whole thing. A friend of mine did literally say, “Get a photo of U2 if you can.” Not with them. Just of them. And I thought, “I don’t have my camera phone and I’m not going to ask for a selfie with U2.”

His jumping photobombs: “White boy can jump.”

Best advice for negotiating Hollywood: “I’ve been chugging away in my career 10 years. That helps you prepare for the exposure. And there are things now which make it easier to escape the obsession with self. If you have someone you love and you’re devoted to them and it’s a proper devotional love — as I do in my life — there’s nothing better than that tonic. First of all, you have your world between you and that person. But also, being devoted to that person takes you away from yourself. There’s someone more important. Not that that’s a reason to be in a relationship, but it’s a very healthy byproduct of it when you’re doing such an obsessional job as acting can be.”

His regret at not being a father by the age of 32: “When I was growing up, I had a weird obsession with 32 being the mark of adulthood and that was part of what I thought that might mean, naively. It was just a hunch about a number. I was always a bit of an old soul. I wasn’t really interested in being young. I mean, I wasn’t eccentric. But I’m glad it didn’t happen. Things happen for a reason. And I’m definitely with the right person for that. So no regrets …”

[From The LAT]

Towards the end of the interview, they get interrupted by David Oyelowo and David and Bendy chat amicably, then David leaves and Bendy talks about the historical accuracy in films, and whether TIG should have shown more of Alan Turing’s homosexuality. I found his thoughts interesting, for what it’s worth. Incidentally, Benedict has joined Stephen Fry’s campaign to pardon the more than 49,000 men who were arrested and charged with crimes involving their homosexuality – you can read more about it here.

As for Benedict referencing his “devotional love” for Sophie Hunter… eh, I don’t know what you want me to say. I don’t think he’s really “devoted” to her. I think they were casually dating and she got pregnant and they decided to make a go of it. What’s interesting to me is that he’s trying to convince himself that this is some kind of epic love story.

Last thing – Sophie Hunter sat front-row at the Valentino show this week. She sat beside Anna Wintour!! This means that Sophie will be wearing Valentino at the Oscars or her wedding (or both). And that Sophie is probably going to be featured in Vogue very soon.

He sounded like an arse in parts of that interview. He called Simon Cowell brilliant and made a joke about how Hamlet sold faster than Beyonce and Jay Z when it was asked do rock starts trump movie stars. Even as a joke, he really sounded like he believes his own hype. This was pre-Globes and SAG so I guess he really thought he had a shot.

I don’t hate Sophie but I do hate how she is all of a sudden being featured in magazines and being sold as some sort of fashion icon and global tour de force in the industry and we should aspire to, all because of him. All I see is, as you said, someone with an ok but a bit flakey career who was casually dating an actor, got pregnant, he proposed but there is no sweeping great love there as they are constantly trying to sell and she is not anything special that we should all worship.

      YAASSSSSS!!!! Preach!!

The tide, my friends, is turning on Mr Cumberbatch.
The arrow is slowly pointing downward. It’s quarter to break-up time… smh

And a good deal of this tide-turn is directed towards his inconsistent, contradictory and narcissistic messages. I don’t mean to put star signs in this, but this is very typical ‘Cancerian man’.

And another thing Lindy, All Hail indeed!! Here Here!!

      • Cee says:

As a fellow Cancer I would like to say we’re not all like this LOL Some of us can actually keep our cool, and our feelings do not fluctuate like stock prices.

But yes, he’s rather annoying right now and needs to stick to only ONE narrative.

      • Loopy says:

@ Cee ,Amal is successful in her own right as are millions of women, at the end of the day she was featured in Vogue and is now followed by the paps because of whom she is married to.

      • Cee says:

@Loopy – Yes, you have a point. But at least GC is a bigger deal than BC, and AC is a way bigger deal than SH.

But yes, they both seem to want the same thing – the spotlight.

      • Marie says:

All of his real fans, still think he’s amazing, and there are millions, he 39 this year, and has wanted to settle down and have a family for a long time, so it wasn’t a shock to any of us, he has know Sophie for a long time, they have acted together, and is friends with his best friend, James Rhodes, .

      • laura in LA says:

The narcissism is abundantly apparent, but w/the non-stop talking, I never would’ve guessed he’s a Cancer sun (must be some Gemini in there!)

      • Claire says:

Lol I guess Marie is our new BC PR mouthpiece. Sorry hon we all know here they haven’t known each other for years. they started dating last summer and was never seen out and about with her before then. Not even sure what Rhodes has to do with it

    • Kat says:

It blows my mind. She has literally done a few experimental theatre pieces and they seem to be collaborations.
Her acting didn’t pan out because she just can’t.
And the ‘opera director’ title they keep trying to attach to her is just plain false. Wtf..

I wouldn’t slag anyone’s career, if she’s happy with what she’s done then fine but trying to make her out to be something she’s not is weird as hell and a real kick in the nuts to female directors who are successful in their own right.

I’ve felt all along with the press coverage that there’s been a push to raise her profile but now I’m sure of it. I just don’t know why.

      • Cee says:

Because some people think she has to be good enough to date someone like BC. And that’s why I sometimes feel sorry for SH – she is deemed his inferior, even (and most probably) by his own team, thus all the white-washing.

      • Lindy79 says:

Cee Ive said that from the start, it’s unbelievable that she needs to be bigged up to seem better than she is in order to create this narritive or an uber talented power couple. He himself has been part of it saying they were so busy it’s a wonder they met, well there is 1 project since 2011 on anything you find about her, so whats she been busy with?
There is nothing wrong with her career, it’s not to everyone’s taste but it’s hers and if he loves her and is “devoted” to her then he wouldn’t care either. She doesn’t have any objections I would guess.

They’re as bad as each other to be honest.

      • Cee says:

@Lindy79 – That’s why I’ve abstained from this clusterF***K so much. Yes, there’s nothing wrong with her career. If she is happy doing what she does and has a family helping her out, then good for her. There’s nothing wrong with that. But making her out to be something she is not only because she is to be married to him and have his child? And this from a man who doesn’t want his fans to call themselves cumberb*tches because it sets the movement back!

Bottom line is – this is what really bothers me about the whole thing. Not the pregnancy and old-fashioned shotgun wedding. Not the fact she is not the greatest actress/director/writer/person ever, but the fact he feels the need to “big her up”, like you’ve said, in order to make her look deserving. And as a woman, it doesn’t sit well with me.

      • Fuji says:

I really don’t think it’s him boasting her CV up. But I can totally believe it’s her demanding for it as part of the deed. Maybe prenups and actual wedding were not enough for Miss “my only accomplishment in life was opening my legs to trap the first rich and famous stupid enough guy”.

      • Green Girl says:

I am coming to this conversation late, but I totally agree on your points to “big up” (good word choice, by the way) her resume. I am curious as to who decided they needed to do that because I think that’s telling. If it’s from her, well, who wouldn’t want to embellish their careers a little bit, especially if your career hasn’t exactly panned out the way you though it would?

    • scarf girl says:

Yes to everything. For his sake, I hope his Hamlet is as good as he thinks he is because I have a feeling critics claws will be out.

Perhaps the push to raise her profile has to do with his narcissism? He clearly thinks highly of himself. Would he not want her to have a place at the “cool table”? Not that any of this is cool but you all know what I mean.

      • Loopy says:

And this goes to Mrs Clooney as well and all these other partners that suddenly get all this unwarranted attention just because of who they are with.

      • Cee says:

@Loopy – At least Mrs. Clooney is successful in her own right. Not everyone ends up being a UN advisor and top barrister.

What’s happening with SH is more similar to what was done to Kate Middleton when William decided to finally marry her. The press and Palace needed another version of her, and created one.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Well, his Hamlet may be getting some serious Shakespearean stage competition. Branagh just announced he’ll be producing three plays in the Wesr End this year. The Winter’s Tale is one and he’s promising another well-known Shakespeare Classic and a lesser known one. He’s pulling an acting company together for them. And Tom’s fall schedule is currently open.

      • MtnRunner says:

Can we all pray the theatre gods that Ken casts Hiddles as Benedick in Much Ado? I would sell my body on the street to buy a tix to see that production live.

Lilac, speaking of Much Ado, did you see Tennants version on DTO? He was soooo good… better than Branaugh even. I ended up buying it after renting it.

While on the subject of theatre, I’m thrilled to hear McAvoy’s Ruling Class is opening to good reviews.

      • **sighs** says:

Lilac, I heard about the Branagh thing. Makes my lady parts tingle. :)

      • Lindy79 says:

        Oh I love Much Ado!

      • MtnRunner says:

Speaking of Lord Dragonfly, comments were closed this morning on his last post. Maybe we’ll get a new one shortly? He was sighted at the BBC this week doing that words and music radio thingee airing on Oscar Sunday.

      • Sixer says:

That’s one Shakespeare (Winter’s Tale), one other classic by another author, and one new play.

      • TotallyBiased says:

MtnRunner–I keep trying to post stuff about the BAFTA Gala dinner and Rodney Cromwell’s Two Questions. So maybe we’ll get a post w/something on that.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@MtnRunner, no, I didn’t see Tennant’s version. I did see his Richard II.

Since we’re on London theater, good reviews for McAvoy and congratulations to Mark Strong for the Critics Circle Award.

      • icerose says:

prays to above that he casts Tom in anything bit Hamlet at the moment,
I have tickets for the Ruling Class in February but health issues may stop me going and it sounds good,
Congratulations to Strong as well. I am glad the awards have been across several actors and that Helen McCrory won as well.
Rodney Cowell is current in UK on the Trans Atlantic Session Tour and he and Tom have met up and he took part in Rodney’s Sound Cloud interview -Two Questions

      • MtnRunner says:

Icerose… wondered where you were… I do hope you’ll get to see the Mac (and TH at the Nutter) next month. Sorry to hear about your health.

How cool that TH and RC got to see each other again. I wish he would join him on stage at some point while in the UK.

    • MtnRunner says:

      Right on, Lindy.

    • anon121 says:

      Lindy 69
      Plus infinity

  2. Claire says:

If you have to publicly declare you have no regrets about your shotgun fiancee and alleged baby, I’d bet the farm you have an armada on the Thames full of regrets.

Also if she’s ever more than a blurb in vogue i’ll become a bulimic from the vomiting

    • OhDear says:

Probably (the regrets), but what’s he supposed to say to someone who’s going to publish his comments in an article that’s going to be read internationally? It’s not as if he can change anything at this point (at least with the baby).

    • Carol says:

I read his comment completely differently. His “no regrets” line has nothing to do about her being pregnant. Instead, I think he means he has no regrets about waiting until he’s 38 to become a dad when he had been public about wanting children at age 32.

      • RobN says:

Exactly. I don’t know why this is being misinterpreted; it’s pretty clear what he said.

      • A says:

Agreed. Also, I have no sense of their relationship because he wasn’t very public about it. Who knows, maybe they fell in love quickly and were already quite serious when she became pregnant.

      • moodgirl says:

He wasn’t public about this relationship? He put his business out on November 5th and hasn’t stopped. They are everywhere.

  3. Mika says:

No matter how hard you try to convince us Mr. Cumby…it’s still a SHOTGUN WEDDING!!!

  4. Soporificat says:

Damn! In the photo with Anna Wintour, the way those three people (including the dude in the background) stare into the camera it’s like they are predators and we are their prey! Kinda freaking me out! I know they are just trying to “give good face” but I think they all need to relax a little.

  5. Indira says:

They really do look like siblings. It’s uncanny.

    • Claire says:

He’s not the most attractive guy ever but I think he’s sexy. She looks kinda mannish in the way he is but difference is the chin. She has a gross jay Leno chin. I don’t think she’s remotely pretty

      • tsmiv2 says:

I’ve been waiting for someone else to say how ‘man-ly’ she looks! I know it’s mean and nasty, but that’s exactly what I think of her appearance, too. She makes him look less masculine when they are together.

      • Mika says:

Hahaha! Tsmiv that’s because Benedict has a baby like- feminine face!!

      • gg says:

Check out her hands, I hate to be so catty (OK, not really) but Sophie has the worst “man hands” I have ever seen in my life!

      • moodgirl says:

I wish she would make an effort to comb her hair each and every time she leaves the house. She looks like a homeless person while sitting with AW. Black hose with a light dress, why didn’t AW find something for SH to wear or at least make a suggestion before she showed up. The worst.

    • beep says:

Really ? She’s cute and he looks like a lizard.

  6. Nayru says:

    Whatever brother, you do you.

  7. PunkyMomma says:

    I mean, I wasn’t eccentric . Seriously?

  8. Lilacflowers says:

So, apparently, anyone can be featured in Vogue just so long as you sit next to Anna Wintour at something?

    • scarf girl says:

Comet Sophie was pulled into the orbit of the giant planet Wintour, providing a delicate light in her evening sky.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Did she emit some sort of toxic gas that killed all the models?

      • scarf girl says:

All of the models are still there, but the light Comet Sophie emits overpowers their frail presence in Wintour’s sky.

Seriously though, Kimye and now Benophie? I will be so happy when Wintour’s reign is over and someone new takes helm at Conde Nest and Vogue.

    • Claire says:

I have no idea. God I hope it’s not true. Why is there this push to make her a star? Was this part of her prenup or something?

  9. HoustonGrl says:

Meh, who cares? He has interviewed his way out of my heart. Sophie’s boring and dresses like she’s amish.

  10. delphi says:

Oy, Bendy. Methinks you doth protest too much. “I’m devoted to her. See, see I love her! Really! Really! BELIEVE MEEEEE!!!!!”

You know, i’d believe it more if they’d have just eloped. But I’m a cynical beeyotch that way.

    • MtnRunner says:

You’re not the only one, delphi. I doubt that many give them more than 2 – 3 years before they’re splitsville. It depends on how long they can tolerate an unhappy union for the sake of keeping up appearances.

      • moodgirl says:

Hey, that’s all it is – BC keeping up appearances.

      • delphi says:

If they make it to “old age”, I am so getting “Keeping Up Appearances” vibes from them. Poor Bendy, all befuddled and sweater-vesty, Sophie putting on her best airs.

Might be the pain meds for my fibroids making me loopy. Yeah, it’s probably that.

      • Mosby says:

        “…all befuddled and sweater-vesty…”

This post is producing some of the best lines!

      • hermi says:

befuddled and sweater-vesty is amazeballs :)

  11. Crocuta says:

It’s sad he has to mention “no regrets” about a wedding and a baby coming. Is that what he’s thinking of, does he regret it or not?

She’s a very pretty lady, I must say.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yeah, pretty lukewarm. What happened to “over the moon”?

      • Kiddo says:

Imagine his voice as a stirring rendition of “No Regrets” by Edith Piaf . There’s a lot more drama in it for you that way.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Lol. Je ne regret rien. Or however you spell that.

      • @Kiddo
Non, rien de rien. Non, Je ne regriette rien….something something, can’t remember how to spell it, JE ME FOUS DE PASSE (I imagine that’s what he’s going to say in a few years when he and Sophie do a concious uncoupling)…

^^^^That’s all I learned after three year’s of French classes–Edith Piaf songs….and yes, Kiddo, tu es partout car tu es en mon cour :)

      • gg says:

“Merde” is what he really meant to say

    • Maggie says:

He is simply saying that he has no regrets that he wasn’t a father at 32 because he is happy now, now that he is with the right person.

      • Kat says:

The person who happened to get knocked up after three months..

      • moodgirl says:

Was it even three months? I put it at about two months, intermittent at that. So, in reality, if we add it up they had probably been hanging out just a few weeks before she got pregnant.

      • Felice says:

There is no way to turn it so it doesn’t look like a shotgun unless he wants to claim that he had affairs with her when with his other girlfriends and ‘trysts’.

    • genevieve says:

I read that more as “no regrets” over not having a child earlier, as he’d expected to become a father at 32.

    • lunchcoma says:

He’s given some real clunker quotes in the past and a few other ones in that interview (the Jay-Z and Beyonce one was annoying), but I thought that one was perfectly fine. I know lots of people who talk about how they had initially been set on a certain life plan, ended up doing things differently, and are now glad things worked out as they did.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yeah, you guys are probably right. I was mostly joking around because you know how every celebrity who gets pregnant lately is “over the moon.”

    • Mika says:

the ‘No Regrets’ remark sounds like something you say before doing something outrageously stupid!
I can picture him raising a shot glass with his best man and groomsmen and making a toast “No Regrets”, just before walking down the aisle.

  12. **sighs** says:

“Does rock star trump movie star? Well, unless they’re selling tickets for Hamlet faster than a Beyonce and Jay Z tour. ”

    GET OVER YOURSELF!

Still can’t say the name of the one you’re devoted to, can you? Just mixing up weird word salads.

He should change his surname to Massengill.

  13. Fuji says:

You know the old saying, “Excusatio non petita, accusatio manifesta”… yes, Benedict you really really have the greatest DEVOTIONAL love for this pregnant nobody who is so shy of the limelight she has to be dragged against her will to red carpets and front rows seats next to Anna Wintour.

Good luck. Because this is just sad and pathetic.

  14. scout says:

Man, he is talking again. Less is more dude!!
As for devotion to to his baby mama, does he have anybody else to be “devoted” to right now? Nope. So knock yourself out Bendy.

  15. Lilacflowers says:

May I have your attention, please? I propose a toast to all of us. Raise your Comet Sophies high. We got through all of yesterday without a new Benedict Cumberbatch thread. Well done, everybody!

    • 'P'enny says:

I raise my comet sophie, as I raise my devotional non-love for Benny :-p

seriously did he really say ‘devotional love?’ is he trying to right messages for bad Valentine’s cards. I’m hopelessly devoted to you….” Cue Olivia Newton-john

    • MtnRunner says:

      *clink*

Well, we did have a most amusing GOOP post to distract us from the lack of Batch. I didn’t even notice his absence, due to the coffee-spewing comments about steam cleaning your lady business…

      • scarf girl says:

I can totally see BC, SH, and Goop hanging out at next Met Ball.

      • Mosby says:

^ OMG Scarf Girl. The Bermuda Triangle of snoot. This is so going to happen. SH is making her move to become the next Goop. *the horror*

  16. Kat says:

So, the people insisting she’s shy and doesn’t want the limelight…I’m guessing they’re likely going to retract that now she sat next to grand high witch front row at Valentino, decked out in….oh!…Valentino!
    Dear me.

And that speech about her has to go into the top three of the weirdest yet. He needs to stop. If he naturally had these feelings he wouldn’t sound so freaking weird about it. It’s as simple as that.

    • Soporificat says:

Maybe he is just a really awkward and pompous person? He does seem to pontificate a lot.

      • Kat says:

Nah, this goes beyond pompous and awkward….this is just…..weird. There’s nothing remotely warm or loving about any of that. He does pontificate but it’s all been very natural and full of passion in the past.

      • Soporificat says:

OK, yeah, it does seem like he is almost speaking theoretically, or as if he is speaking about someone else’s relationship. Hmmm.

i’m a pretty gullible person, I mean, i usually take things at face value, so it’s been interesting hearing more critical people talking about this situation. It’s an education, lol!

      • Kat says:

        @soporificat

        Yeah, it’s pretty damn weird.

And I think all this has been an education to a lot of us tbh. ;)

    • alice says:

Wasn’t this done pre the Big Reveal at PSFF? Wouldn’t he be sitting around the spa before the ceremony, not after? He didn’t look too devoted when he saw her outfit, more like gobsmacked.

And really, there is absolutely no need to dis OP the way he did in that interview with that balderdash about being glad of not being a father before because now it’s the right one. Too bad Olivia is too classy to tell all.

    • An says:

$10 says he was drinking. His anxiety has gotten worse, too, IDK why I’m just picking up on it now but it’s become really noticeable.

      • Claire says:

I’d bet $10000. Only explanation for the nonsensical rambling and the “no regrets” freudian slip

    • beep says:

      Maybe he’s just a weirdo.

  17. MtnRunner says:

I’m with you Kaiser, he’s trying to make a big tasty, batch of lemonade with the crate of lemons he was stuck with. He sounds like he trying to convince himself still.

    • scarf girl says:

If that is the case, this will not end well. He will do something really stupid, and because he thinks he is more clever than he actually is, odds are it will be very public.

    • MtnRunner says:

Scarf, I think he will marry her in an attempt to legitimize their relationship. Bennyanna’s inability to see himself and this relationship for what it probably really is will bite him in the ass down the road.

      • scarf girl says:

I absolutely agree a marriage will happen. I don’t think the marriage will be short lived because I think BC cares about appearances far too much for a quick divorce. But, I will not be surprised if there is a scandal a la Jude Law proportions, down the road, especially if there is a bump in career path. The more BC talks, the more I side-eye. BC strikes me as very, very needy, insecure, and egotistical. Those qualities are dangerous for happy monogamous relationships. And people with those traits do not handle the normal downswing/upswings in career well either.

I feel sorry for the Comet on some level. No woman would be able to live up to the image of what a wife should be. The language he uses to describe their relationship is so bizarre-it is from romance novels of the 1980′s. Although she is getting a sweet profile boost; if there is a bumpy road personally, at least that is compensation.

It is interesting to me to look back at their behavior from LFF up to The Times announcement. My bet is the cloak and dagger routine was mostly him.

And now I am going to put a weekend run to amused bookstore on my list to see if I can find an old copy of Princess Daisy. I am filled with nostalgia for epic, trashy novels.

      • MtnRunner says:

Scarf, regarding you comment on a future scandal, I almost added that if they stay together, I expect to hear rumors (and eventual confirmation) of infidelity on both sides down the road. They just don’t look happy together and no entitled person stays monogamous in such an unhappy situation. The presence of a child will not fix it, that’s for damn sure.

      • Toodles45 says:

@scarfgirl, ITA with everything you just said. He sounds like such a prima donna in that article.

      • scarf girl says:

Thanks ladies. Yeah Mtn, I agree with your assessment. And because he is so talented, I think the feeling of entitlement will grow. I know I can sound harsh in my criticisms of BC, but whatever I think of him personally, the talent and drive I don’t question. Why is it so many personality flaws have to go hand in hand with great talent?

      • Alice says:

Scarfgirl. I guess not all of our faves can be David Tennant who is still Mr. Perfect for me. If there’s a problem with him, don’t let me know. I still cling to hope that BC will survive this mess.

      • scarf girl says:

Alice, I understand. I do. I will never pay such close attention to an actor ever again. I think BC will survive the mess; I just question his ability to make good decisions. I don’t question his talent.

You can have Tennant, I will take McAvoy. I never want to hear whispers around him (or Ann-Marie).

      • MtnRunner says:

Alice, not being a Whovian, I had my first dose of Tennant watching him in Much Ado on Digital Theatre. Holy crap, he expressed the hell out of Benedick and now I’m a bona-fide fan. What a delight to watch him play that part.

Scarf, you and I are cut from the same cloth when it comes to The Mac; can we can sing his praises in stereo? I adore him and respect the way he has managed his personal and professional life. He and Duff seem a great couple.

I too think that BC will survive the current mess and continue to work steadily as an actor, tho’ not as the HW leading man he seems to be gunning for. It would do him much good to go underground for several months and learn to deal with chronic stress of managing marriage, fatherhood, Hamlet, Strange and who knows what else may be going on.

      • scarf girl says:

Mtn I concur. I know I have been really harsh on BC, but really it has to be a stressful career and no one knows what goes on behind the scenes. Life is a constant adjustment game re: managing stress levels and keeping your head on straight. Don’t want to see a fall from grace. Just an attitude adjustment and some media training.

  18. Lama Bean says:

What the heck is Anna Wintour wearing? What the heck is Sophie wearing? The horror!

Benedict should stop talking. He’s thoroughly getting on my last nerve.

    • alice says:

Sophie is wearing a tablecloth, IMO.

      • Cee says:

This is what happens when people care more about Labels rather than design. Not everything designer is good (in terms of design, not tailoring).

But I suppose SH was invited and this is the outfit they gave to her. At least her shoes seem to fit. But the tights shows she has no fashion sense, at all.

      • Claire says:

It looks like an alter boy’s frock she just needs a collection plate

      • tsmiv2 says:

I live about a mile from a very small convent. That dress looks exactly like the habits the nuns wear when out working in the front lawn.

      • Claire says:

        ^lol!

  19. Kim1 says:

I am happy for him.He dreamed of being a father at age 32 now its happening at age 38.He met the right person at the right time.He is a grown ass man nobody is forcing him to get married.Nobody trapped him.
Congrats to them on their upcoming wedding and baby.

    • Kat says:

Maybe nobody is literally forcing him to get married, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel compelled to. Sorry, but nothing about this screams the right anything at all. There’s no way he planned for it, how could she’ve been the ‘right’ person to start a family with a after a few months?.. but of course he’s going to say it’s all fine. What else can he say? If people want to except that very weak facade, that’s up to them.

      • Granger says:

I agree — I don’t think any of this was planned, and it’s hard to imagine truly “knowing” that someone is the “right” person for you after such a short time. But one of my best friends got pregnant by accident with someone she’d only known for three months, and they’ve been happily married now for almost 20 years. It can and does happen. It might be hard to believe, but maybe BC has fallen in love with SH and is really looking forward to a life with her and their baby? Just my two cents…

      • Kat says:

        @Granger

That would be nice if true, but nothing that surrounds any of this, largely his demeanour, weird comments and behaviour, suggest that this is a man in love.

      • gg says:

@Granger: I am guessing that your friends had plenty of time to get to know and love each other, not that one partner was constantly travelling for work while one stayed home?

    • The Original Mia says:

      Exactly! It’s not that serious.

I expect your post will be inundated with replies to the contrary in 4…3…2…1.

    • I don’t think she trapped him with a baby–if anything, if this relationship ever goes south, that’ll probably be the one thing he’ll not regret about it–the baby. But I just find it odd that he’s running so hot and cold with this whole thing, when it DIDN’T have to be so public. At the very least, even if they are in true lurve, they have to still manage as a couple. How can you do that when the vast majority of your relationship has been so public? If this is an “oopsie” baby, even if I was in love with the father, the last thing I’d want to do is go on a high profile press campaign with him…..if we were going to try and make a go at it, then I’d want it to be as quiet as possible.

Anyway, I’m in the camp that this is a “whoopsie” baby, and that they’re trying to make it work. Which, given that he’s (apparently) known her for years beforehand, I think it might work. They know each other–that’s how I’d want to start a relationship. I don’t think it’s wrong. I just think it’s funny that he’s all “I don’t want to talk about Sophie” (without saying her name), when he announced all of this a few days before the press began for “Imitation Game”……

      • Kat says:

        It’s definitely an ‘oops’.
And as for how long he’s known her, I don’t think that counts for a lot really. They worked together on that awful programme a few years ago and have a few mutual friends, but there’s no evidence they spent much time together at all in between. They may hardly have spoken since then.

      • Claire says:

VC they briefly met in 2009 when shooting a crap film. That’s it. If they actually saw each other again since you know we’d have heard about it! What do you think accounts for all the oddness regarding his behaviour?

      • Ahh, okay. I got the idea that they had known each other for years and were actually (low key) friends….

    • moodgirl says:

I take it you have not been following this?

  20. Rachel says:

She looks like she’s wearing an ugly nightgown in the Wintour photo.

  21. Luca76 says:

Can people read? Are they even reading? He is saying he wanted babies when he younger. I have no idea what the state of his relationship is but nothing about what he said sounds off.

    • Kat says:

No, it’s all incredibly devotional. .

    • Maggie says:

Exactly Luca, and he is not regretting that he didn’t have children when he was younger because now is the right time because he has met the right person.

He is also not “dissing” Olivia. Do people have to forever go around qualifying their current happiness with statements saying ” this in no way devalues my previous relationships”. People move on, as has Olivia.

    • The Original Mia says:

I want kids too. But I definitely know I wasn’t ready to have one when I was younger. If it happened now, I’d be a happy camper because I have the financial security and the maturity to handle the responsibilities that come from having a child.

  22. AG-UK says:

In that photo she has a very long face that’s all I’ve got and Hamish giving evil eyes.. I am so tired of him now.. and I do think he has started to believe his hype.

    • delphi says:

Hamish is everything. I love his snark.

You know, he’d be the kind to give Ms. Wintour (we share a first name, which I’m not exactly proud of) “bunny ears” in a photo…if they weren’t so bourgeois.

  23. Gracie says:

Please keep your devotional love – what does that even mean? This non English person has trouble comprehending – devotional private, I beg of you! Everything he says now just sounds like word vomit one after another.

  24. MtnRunner says:

I think keeping company with Wintour says a lot about them both. They want to be seen with the “right” people and use it for self promotion. They’re both pretty shallow, really.

    • Kat says:

Wintour is a truly despicable woman. I could overlook BC sitting with her due to work politics, although I can’t see why he’d need to schmooze some fashion wench, but for SH it’s a choice of her own volition and I have to say…that speaks volumes for me.

    • AG-UK says:

I agree as other than the fact Wintour was born in England they don’t have anything in common I would reckon as they aren’t really big fashion people at least not from what I have seen.

      • Maggie says:

Well actually theatre people do have many things in common with Anna Wintour. It is her father who originally persuaded newspaper proprietor Lord Beaverbrook to hold the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. There is an award named after her father. I think she first got to know Benedict after seeing him perform in Frankenstein. So she is a patron of British theatre.

      • Kat says:

Wintour’s father starting the ESA awards means nothing. She does not work in the theatre industry, she is a vile woman who runs a fashion magazine empire for sheeple.
Which brings me onto the next point, her theatre appreciation is irrelevant here. She is a truly wicked woman who treats people appallingly, perpetuates a grotesque standard of weight for women in her pathetic magazines which in turn filters down to young girls and consistently she uses real fur, for her own wizeny self and in her photo shoots, thus actively participating in the painful and unnecessary deaths of thousands of animals.
Anyone who chooses to associate with this woman should be ashamed.
Maggie, I know you’re on a crusade to vehemently defend everything vaguely related to this man, but surely even you are going to struggle making Wintour look like anything but the nasty piece of work she is.

      • KT says:

@Kat: Well, to be fair, everyone associates with someone awful in HW, from directors like Allen to influencers like Wintour. As you said, work politics.

You’re right in the ESA not meaning much, but I do concede with Maggie in that she’s a well-heeled patron of theater in the UK.

      • Kat says:

        @KT

Yeah, work politics I can accept and that’s what stopped me from being completely appalled by BC for hanging out with her, but what’s SH’s excuse? It’s not her job and I thought she wanted to keep out of the limelight…

      • Sixer says:

Whatever anyone might think of Wintour – and the fashion industry in general – it can’t be denied she’s one of the power-society fundraisers for theatre in the UK. She’s been a £000s patron of the National Theatre for donkeys years and regularly hosts £000s-a-plate fundraising galas for them.

It may well be an unpleasant, incestuous and nepotistic world, but it is what it is. And in that world, Wintour brings in some bucks for theatres.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Performing arts needs money. Wintour brings that.

      • Kat says:

Performing arts needs money. Wintour brings that.
        ——————————————–

Yes, she is very good at her ‘fundraising events’. People like her always delight in adding the title of philanthropist to her ego.
No amount of money she raises can change how disgusting she is. People who choose to socialise with her are making quite a statement about themselves.

    • J says:

im not that bothered by wintour tbh but yeah, kat, a lot of actors associate with her and it’s not even just about fashion, but the amount of press control she has (she’s involved with vogue, glamour, vanity fair, etc.) dealing with meh ppl is part of any job

@AG_Uk, wintour is a big theater donator/supporter in the uk.

      • Lindy79 says:

Yes, and plus Vogue is part of a major publishing house, piss them off and you’re burning a lot of bridges. As an actor even though I was side eyeing it, I got it. I dont hate everyone that goes to the MET Gala.

I don’t get why Sophie needs to hang out front and centre with her at a non red carpet event and without him there, especially as they keep banging on about privacy but .. ok.

      • MtnRunner says:

Perhaps Sophie’s trying to get into Wintour’s deep pockets for a future production by cozying up to her, but it does nothing to dispell the notion that she uses people with more money, fame and power for her own ends.

      • scarf girl says:

They look so awkward together. Anna and Sophie.

    • scarf girl says:

Agree Mtn. They are going to be a very public couple.

    • moodgirl says:

Sophie is holding that clutch like she is advertising it. I wonder if she is getting paid.

      • scarf girl says:

There is one picture where she is watching the show with her clutch away from her body and you can see the belly. It is a side angle. I don’t get using the purse to hide the bump trick.

      • Kat says:

I couldn’t see any hint of a stomach at all in that pic with wintour. Like I say, I’m not part of the bizarre fake theories, but it’s rather stange. She’s absolutely playing up to it and that’s 100% what she’s doing with the persistent holding up of the bizarre little clutch bag. It’s a baity ‘don’t look right here!’ trick. Anyone normal and honest wouldn’t be carrying on like that now it’s been announced. She really is behaving like an arse and enjoying every moment.

      • Felice says:

She’s supposed to be 4-5 months aka halfway there and there’s nada?

    • icerose says:

it means your every moment is spent thinking of their welfare

  25. Claire says:

@Cee, there’s a difference between not having accomplished as much as your partner and largely having done only “work” that only rich girls with the right connections get. She didn’t have to work hard like BC did to build her unimpressive, obscure CV

    • Cee says:

IDK what you’re replying to, so I apologise in advance haha

Look, I am upper class and I still had to work very hard at school and at my career because that’s how I was brought up by my two carreer-oriented parents. But I have class mates who have done the same as SH – nothing substantial. One of them is now a “plastic and urban artist” when all she does is graffiti – but, hey, her connections have allowed her to show her “art”.

But I agree with you – her lackluster career is the reason why her CV is being exaggerated because how could BC, with all his love for feminism and accomplished modern women, choose someone like her? Maybe I’m not expressing myself correctly, but it seems she had to be elevated to be deserving of him and I’m not sure how happy she will be that, in the LT.

      • Gracie says:

@Cee, I get your point. Though over the top, I don’t find her exaggerated CV that offensive – even for normal people like me, I was told by various professional career planning advisers to write my CV in a glass half full perspective rather than glass half empty to make it ‘sound’ better. My guess is, strategic CV writing and little white lies accumulated and bundled up, boo! here we go. Dishonest, yes, she’s getting away with things in a way that most people can’t, yes, but I suppose that’s the way of life.

This whole PR game, however, is unnecessary, vapid, and distasteful. Just blah. But brace yourself, ladies, I imagine this is the sort of thing he’s gonna keep saying as long as they keep going. And I don’t see him getting rid of her any time soon.

      • Cee says:

@Gracie – It doesn’t offend me, either. I just don’t understand why there’s a need for it. But, whatever, I’m not part of that relationship and I’m not the one having my CV known to strangers.

However, stating she has won Awards but not mentioning it was as part of a group seems a bit dodgy to me. It’s not something I consider to be right.

      • Gracie says:

@Cee, /sigh I can only understand it as a part of PR planning. I think it’s unnecessary too. For someone who knows a little bit about an art admirer trying to make art what you do for living I know how hard it is and sometimes that journey can take long, long time. A lot of people may never get there. But I guess that doesn’t fit the intelligent, posh, public school educated, serious actor marrying Oxford attended, posh, cultured whatever (minus a list of credentials) director poster they’re painting all over the place.

  26. Dana says:

I think this proves conclusively that either he, his publicist or La Hunter are reading the comments here. This is pure damage control and nothing else, and him trying to whitewash his shotgun engagement and pregnancy when it’s quite obvious to everyone what happened here. Of course he’s embarrassed or else he wouldn’t be trying so hard to justify it.

As for La Hunter being a new style maven – um…no.
Anna Wintour will probably be her ad-hoc style consultant and she will be seen at the right shows, but to date I don’t see any original style intelligence on her part at all. It’s not that hard to go over to to a site like Net-A-Porter and copycat what you see there and I’m guessing that’s what she’ll probably do.

And as for Bendy, he needs to stop reading and believing his own press. And tooting his own horn. It’s getting tired really fast now. I think I once read that Bendy wanted a “career of longevity” and based on how things are going, he’s making himself out to be another disposable flavor-of-the-month Hollywood player. I agree with a comment posted above; less is more. Sometimes if you develop a sense of your own mystery, that could go a long way. Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode uses this tactic a lot and said that rock stars who over-expose themselves over time (and here he cited and was making a dig at Chris Martin of Coldplay specifically), eventually get too tiresome and the public gets turned off. If Bendy really wanted a serious career of longevity he should be looking at actors who’ve done it, guys like Michael Caine, Ian Holm, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart etc.
Remember the turtle? Slow and steady always wins the race. The jack rabbit eventually fizzles out.

    • Lilacflowers says:

But he photo bombed U2 in the Oscar red carpet and he partied so hard at all the after Oscar parties last year, surely that must count more than Stsr Trek Next Generation?

      • icerose says:

nut he is such a shy man and struggles with Oscar type events according to what he said on Norton

      • j says:

i am sure he does, actually

its pretty obvious hes got more than your normal anxiety but imo drinking isnt the way to go

      • icerose says:

but not so shy he can photo bomb and push into every picture of the dierector when he was a support actor. Cherifor showed so much more class.

    • Lindy79 says:

She lost me for wearing black tights with those kick ass Valentino shoes.

There is a time and place for black tights and those shoes are not it.

  27. 'P'enny says:

Not digging the Princess Leia dress, she only needs to wear double-buns. She has really bad fashion sense.

  28. J says:

This is definitely pre-SAG, and kinda boring, so we ll see lol

  29. Ally8 says:

She wore that nightgown dress with the studded black Valentino heels. So clueless! Those styles so do not go together.

  30. Gracie says:

Just a thought, what’s after devotional? Unconditional?

  31. kadyo says:

I don’t understand why so many commenters feel the need to be so negative towards Sophie Hunter. I’m grateful I’m not in a celebrity relationship; I’d hate it that strangers find fault with everything about me and my relationship without having actually met me.

    • Claire says:

If I were obscure and in a relationship with a celeb, and truly loved that person, I wouldn’t have ever engaged in any of the behaviour this woman has that has gotten her all the hate.

      • Maggie says:

What behaviour would that be Claire?

Accompany her fiancee to a few red carpet events, get papped at the airport and go to one fashion event. Wow that is disgusting!

      • Claire says:

You’re a troll so answering is pointless but to anyone else reading who may have doubts, I can begin with her famous temper tantrum that even shocked Ben, her attention seeking behaviour that’s also left him aghast visibly, and the consistent look on her face like someone just farted. She’s a nasty piece of work and she’s happy to let the world know she thinks she’s better than everyone else including him. She will bring him nothing but drama and anger.

      • Mathilda says:

Maggie, it is useless to try to reason with these women.
Here the trolls are in command.

    • Kat says:

Not meeting someone doesn’t preclude people from having an opinion on their public behaviour. If you actually read the comments you’ll find that people are talking about how she chooses to present herself and how this relationship has been so publicly and strangely played out.

      • kadyo says:

        @Kat
Thanks, I have read the comments. I just don’t believe her behaviour thus far has warranted such criticism.

      • The Real says:

        @kaydo

I try to be fair in my criticism. I have been following much gossip since before he’s been engaged. So, based on what I’ve read, I can say that Sophie doesn’t warrant much of the criticism she is receiving however everyone can freely express their first impressions of someone.

I hold only two things against Sophie and that is the behavior she exhibited on the red carpet at a theatre award (Evening Standard Awards). She stomped off the red carpet in full view of cameras as Benedict was beginning an interview. I thought that was deplorable behavior especially as her partner was “working”. The other thing is similar to the latter, when during an interview in which she was holding his hand, she began to pull him away from the interview (Weinstein after party). That’s it. I thought that her behavior was inconsiderate.

      • kadyo says:

        @The Real

Thank you for your balanced response. I agree that the incidents you mentioned do warrant criticism. I’m no SH fan, but I don’t have anything against her. I love this site, and usually the comments on other posts are balanced and engaging. When it comes to BC posts, though, a lot of what I read from some commenters disgusts me to be honest. One commenter above criticised Sophie’s ‘mannish’ looks and ‘gross Jay Leno chin’. I think she’s pretty, but even if she wasn’t attractive, why resort to that kind of behaviour? I get it – it’s a gossip site. Still, I read wonderful comments by so many feminists on this site. Then I get to the BC posts….

    • Kat says:

      Oh, Maggie stop.

For goodness sake, this is ridiculous. Pretty much everyone thinks this whole thing is weird in one way or another and I do know that you are from imdb and you are now worshipping this rather silly woman as your queen because he accidentally knocked her up and that is your choice.
But please don’t keep attacking people who want to see things in a far more reasoned and less ‘devotional’ way.

      • Mathilda says:

“Pretty much everyone” in this case are around 30-40 women who are so obssesed with Cumbebatch that need to write daily here and everywhere about a man and a woman they don’t know.
You are saying someone is silly without reason. Considering she is marrying Cumberbatch she is not silly at all.
        Kat, stop being jealous, please.
And try to fix your sarcasm meter because it is broken.

      • Kat says:

        Oh Mathilda,

You always pop up with alarming trolling regularity (wasn’t it last time you declared that eveyone here was old and pathetic?..nice) but considering you think there no way she can be silly because she’s ‘marrying cumberbatch’, you’ve nailed your colours to the mast with that comment.

        Reasons Sophie is very silly:

        - Rolling around on the floor with an octopus
        - Rolling around on the floor wearing a pregnancy suit
        - Throwing a tantrum on a red carpet
        - Miming in a field
        - Making other people carry her belongings
        - Playing some bizarre and media baiting peekabo games with the pregnancy
        - Wearing a sheet and being friends with Anna Wintour

        That’ll do for starters?

      • Alice says:

Kat. You forgot getting dry humped in a field.

Oh, and I should add almost immediately getting pregnant with her first really famous tryst when she managed to avoid it with her nearly unknown actual boyfriends or partners.

      • Crocuta says:

Kat (or anyone else): When did she throw a tantrum on a red carpet? Never heard of that one.

      • Alice says:

At the ESA while BC was being interviewed she turned and stomped off while Karon went flapping after her. The look on BC’s face was heartbreaking.

      • Crocuta says:

        Thanks, Alice!

Is there a video other than this:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdkwEVUXiO0

Because this one is cut in a way that it could be interpreted as tantrum, but to me it looks more like she left like partners on red carpets usually do when there’s interviews with the stars. Perhaps she just walked away too fast or in the wrong direction and the blonde lady (Karon, I presume?) tried to catch her.

But you mentioned BC’s reaction which is not seen here.

      • Sunflower says:

        Google Sophie Hunter gif

      • Crocuta says:

Oh OK, that does look nastier (but impossible to say what really happened). Kinda bummed for her that only her name and “gif” together give this as first several results. Good luck in changing that.

She loves flower dresses, doesn’t she?

      • Alice says:

Which is ironic given that BC caught some flak for supposedly disparaging some “floral ladies” in his Out interview.

    • Luca76 says:

      @kadyo agreed.
People have a right to opinion and gossip sure. It’s also perfectly fair to call out those people for going a bit into the dark side. Anyone who spends time on the Internet has seen it before and it ain’t pretty. I have no opinion on Sophie Hunter she’s bland as hell and so is her fiancé but the over the top reaction from his dejected fandom is off sides.

  32. Felice says:

Was it entirely wise that after a huge race gaffe, his fiance would show up somewhere in a white sheet?

    • Claire says:

Felice, you win at life. Tumblrites take note and start the memes

    • Felice says:

I’m not finished lol. Where was she though when that went down? No “He is the most caring person. He should’ve known better.”? I mean, if my boo was under fire I would stand beside him.

      • Claire says:

Have you noticed she doesn’t speak? She went to mime school for this?

      • Gracie says:

You guys, she’s a delicate flower in a delicate way.

Am I being particularly bitchy today? Apologise in advance if I sound that way. Not having a good day. The comments have made me laugh though. :)

      • Mika says:

you know I’m even more surprised non of his twitter friends came to the rescue to defend him James? Adam? Are you guys still there?

      • Felice says:

        @Gracie
She looked totally flat at the show and at the Chanel store she swallowed Tilicum so it’s normal to side eye and be bitchy about it things lol

      • Alice says:

  33. ANON says:

‘Devotional love’? Imagine what his speech at the wedding will be like…

Also, and this is a bit catty, why is he incapable of going out with anyone with style?

  34. jammypants says:

“I’ve been chugging away in my career 10 years. That helps you prepare for the exposure. And there are things now which make it easier to escape the obsession with self.”

    *eyeroll*

    • Gracie says:

Sure, he’s clearly coping so well.

    • ANON says:

When you’ve been ‘chugging away in your career for 10 years’ to get to where you are, I wonder how it feels to watch someone ascend the ranks very quickly on your coattails?

      • Claire says:

Another post that hits it on the head

      • Mika says:

He managed to dodge that with the Russian. Have no idea why he couldn’t dodge the French!
But I suppose this arrangement works for them long term because if BC doesn’t get the longevity he’s looking for in Hollywood then Sophie is his back up plan. Her making connections now for her future projects, ensures that BC will have a place in theatre to come back to.

      • Claire says:

She is not French. She wishes she were though and clearly has idiotic, infantile notions of what being French entails though

      • Felice says:

        @Claire

Is that why she doesn’t brush her hair? She’s trying to do the effortless messy Euro hair?

      • MIMI says:

NOO please I’m French no comparison with her^^

      • Claire says:

Felice, maybe? But French women also tend to have fashion sense, so something doesn’t add up. Maybe it’s why she’s so arrogant, she buys into the Anglo stereotype of them LOL

    • MtnRunner says:

The lack of self-awareness in this man is astonishing.

    • Ree says:

Can’t wait for this farce to end. One way or the other.

  35. Josefa says:

I just want this campaign to be over. I started watching Sherlock and I love it so much, I want to like Benedict again.

  36. Andrea says:

For those who think he is happy, all signs ever since Sophie was revealed have proven otherwise. His family and friends haven’t said anything regarding the congratulations, which means there is definitely something amiss. You need to realize that even men who really want kids, don’t get all yayyy from an oops, typically its the panicky deer in headlights looks similar to what he is portraying instead. It is never a way to “tame”, “get” “settle”, “commit” to a man. I don’t think Sophie trapped him to be clear, I think it was a surprise because they were reckless, but I know a lot of women who say well he will change once the baby comes along, he will love you even more, sometimes that is simply not the case. Men like to be coddled and have their egos stroked(plus they like to be #1 and get sex whenever they want; they hate constant rejection), he is an only child and let me tell you as an only child myself, male only children definitely want to be the center of attention. If he isn’t once this kid comes along, he will be gone faster than you can blink. I actually feel sorry for Sophie because I can only imagine how different things will be post-baby for her with him.

    • MtnRunner says:

He definitely comes off as a spoiled child who is used to being the center of attention. Those of us with kids know just how much they demand that level of attention and he’s not gonna transfer it to his child. He’ll get papped out and about holding his kid for some good PR but I suspect Sophie will essentially be a single mom in this relationship. I feel sorry for her too, even if she brought it on herself. I’d hate being married to someone as selfish and immature as Ben seems to be.

      • gg says:

Sophie will be a “single mom” with a full-time nanny and accounts at Chanel and Valentino. She will be happy as a clam

      • Andrea says:

If she will be happy as a clam in that scenario, that is just gross IMO.

      • **sighs** says:

I feel sorry for the kid since they both seem pretty self absorbed. I see a lot of nannies in this kid’s future.

      • Felice says:

and ship them off to boarding school against BC’s wishes

      • MtnRunner says:

I realize that she gives off snooty, elitist vibes and doesn’t exhibit any warmth on the red carpet, but I’m reserving judgement on her as a mother until the evidence is presented. She may actually want to be a hands on mother. Time will tell.

I can’t help but think she’s in for a very lonely marriage that’s all about Ben and feeding his ego. Her child won’t fill the void while he’s off doing his thing and she’s gonna have to make the best of it. I hope I’m completely wrong, but there’s nothing that gives me assurance that they’re going to be a healthy, happy marriage. It’s sad really.

      • Ree says:

i can’t believe the lack of perspective in this man

    • Claire says:

Yes all of this. I wont ever feel sorry for her though.

    • tsmiv2 says:

“panicky deer in headlights” That is exactly what I thought he looked like at the NY premiere and that was before any pregnancy reveal.

    • Kat says:

I can’t buy the ‘reckless’ thing though. There’s no way he wasn’t getting his end away with aplomb for the last few years, if he wasn’t being reckless then, why start now?

      • Andrea says:

I’ve seen people go years and then suddenly forget or get caught up in the moment or so they claim and not use bc and get surprise pregnancies. I have been on bc for 14+ years and never a pregnancy scare in sight, but I have heard many people discuss the chances they take and you’d be surprised how naive/it’s not going to happen to me attitude they’ll have. he looks to be the type who would expect the woman to take care of bc or to not think about it and whoops. Apparently you haven’t seen some very smart people do some very stupid things in your day.

      • scarf girl says:

And if you have been on BC for years, your body adjusts to the hormone and it is not as effective. So even if on the pill and taking it religiously, once you hit your thirties, all bets are off. Trust me on this one. And the generic ones are slightly less effective. So yeah, I see where things can happen even.

      • Kat says:

It’s very rare that birth control actually fails though. Very rare.
And I still don’t buy that he would be stupid enough to have unprotected sex. I just don’t see it.

      • tsmiv2 says:

I’m hardly an expert on this, but in the States once a woman hits 35 the pill is discouraged. Some doctors won’t even prescribe it to anyone over 35 because the risk of heart attack or blood clot increases. Ms. Hunter turned 35 last March, just saying…

      • Andrea says:

I think it depends if you smoke or are over 180 lbs. I know a lot of friends in the states were discouraged from taking pill after 35 because they a.) smoked and/or b.) were over 180lbs. My doctor said I can take the pill until menopause.

      • lola says:

I am still seriously baffled how you guys believe she is pregnant. She can’t fake it to save her life. And here you are talking what failed. Common sense that is what failed.

Just to answer some of the questions. Pills do not fail – people taking them fail to be cautious. Women over 35 can be on pills (if there are no other reasons why not to) but there are other way safer methods that are better suited for middle aged women who do not want kids anymore.

“And if you have been on BC for years, your body adjusts to the hormone and it is not as effective. So even if on the pill and taking it religiously, once you hit your thirties, all bets are off. Trust me on this one. And the generic ones are slightly less effective.” No, just, no all of it. God, just no.

      • Andrea says:

I couldn’t agree more. I don’t think at 35(I’m 33 now) I suddenly will get pregnant because my pill will suddenly fail because whoops your 35 now I am going to just stop working because you’ve taken it too long and somehow overcome my ovarian issues too. LOL Some people hear these stories from people and run with them.

      • tsmiv2 says:

I didn’t say that they don’t work, I said doctors discourage women from taking them which makes them harder to get. It’s just something to consider. I’m not saying it’s the gospel and teenage girls aren’t the only people who get pregnant accidentally. If they were, the world would be a lot less crowded!

      • Mary-Alice says:

lola says: Pills do not fail – people taking them fail to be cautious.

False! Pills have 98 to 99% at best which requires perfection in taking them on time! Which simply means than out of every 100 women at least one is a candidate for pregnancy. Of all the women in the world on the pill, this is a high number, actually. And those are only the ones who are super strict in taking their pill on time. Out of them, the currently ovulating, +-2 days (conservative) are totally getting pregnant! Statements like yours not only go against the gynecologists’ efforts to properly educate women on what protection they can expect but put in risk very young women as well!

      • Anne tommy says:

For a moment scarf girl I read your “if you have been on BC for years” as referring to Mr Cumberbatches initials…anyhow, I am not that interested in this saga, and certainly not his or her contraception, but being on the pill and taking it according to prescription is not infallible, I think other posters have mentioned there is a one or two percentage points failure rate. That’s it, I’m out of Cumbercontraceptive discussion…

      • scarf girl says:

Kat, without giving away too much of my own health information, or traumatizing readers in their 20′s, failure on the pill isn’t as uncommon as you think especially in your 30′s. Talking to my doctor it is very common. And unfortunately, many many women have underlying hormone fluctuations the pill masks. And to the poster saying the pill discouraged after 35: there are many women who have to be on the pill until menopause due to hormonal issues. So bringing it full circle: I can see how accidental pregnancies happen and no clue if it happened here or no. Just saying there are a lot of possibilities, not just the “trapped” storyline. Although that is also possible.

      • scarf girl says:

Lola, your statements are not correct. Say what you will, but there are some women who have to take hormones. Go get educated. Many womenhave no other options and my doctor sees 5-7 women a week with my issues. To allow yourself to be so blinded by irrational dislike of a stranger’s pregnancy is no excuse not to be educated on women’s health issues.

      • Fuji says:

I don’t know, I admit not even the pill can be 100% safe but isn’t it suspicious than when it fails it always happens when opportunistic women meet men who are RICH AND FAMOUS and not in a committed relationship?

Many couples, even stable ones, manage to avoid unplanned pregnancies. Yet in this case, as in many other suspicious ones, birth control failed spectacularly.

I mean, Sodius’s pill could have failed at least after the Oscars, no? Or even after Hamlet. Or when they’d have already been in a serious relationship for some time and not just a for a couple months when they were spending the majority of time apart.

      • lola says:

        scarf girl
I am sorry you have problems with bc but that doesn’t give you any right to be insulting and giving me lessons on the topic. And unless you are a md, well informed premed or a nurse (and you are not – sorry but it is obvious) we are quite done with sending someone off into the studying land.

      • scarf girl says:

Work in healthcare babe. So yeah, go study away and come back to me when you have your degree. And after you have had ten years experience with patients.

      • lola says:

eta Hope you are nicer to the patients than you are here.

      • scarf girl says:

I have done my time at the hospital, made money in pharma and am now at corporate. You are going to have to do quite well to be my boss. Look, it is one thing to disagree with people. It is a gossip site. I understand there are posters who don’t like Sophie. I understand you might suspect she screwed up her birth control routine to get pregnant.

Why make assumptions about me? Comment as you will and fine, you can question what I know about women’s health issues. But ask yourself this: why is someone’s personal and professional experience so threatening to you that you took the route of making personal insults? I bit back, I confess, because I know the struggles I went through for a diagnosis and the struggles I continue to go through to maintain good health.

So cheers to you Lola. If you do make it to be my boss I salute you. Because you have a lot of rings to climb to get over me on that ladder. And I mean that with no snark-I am in the male dominated tier at this point and hold no grudge to any woman trying to make her way.

      • lola says:

I am pretty sure it was you who started with assumptions, so … And no, now that you’ve written what parts of healthcare you’ve been working in … I will not be your boss. I still hope you are nicer in real life than you are here.

      • scarf girl says:

Regardless of whether you think I am nice or not (and to be honest, I question my niceness so that is fair-after all,I am on a gossip site-how nice are any of us) cheers to you anyway Lola. As others on this site can tell you, I always end these lively discussions with wishes of 🍸.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@lola, pills DO fail. All forms of contraception have failure rates – and I say this as someone who was once on a medication that required use of DOUBLE BARRIER contraception with dire warnings as to what could happen to me if they simultaneously failed. Also, conception while using birth control pills is seriously under-reported. My sister is meticulous about everything in her life and got pregnant twice while on the pill and once while using a diaphragm.

      • solanacaea (Nighty) says:

“… but there are other way safer methods that are better suited for middle aged women who do not want kids anymore.” MIDDLE AGED??? at 36… MIDDLE AGED???
        Pills don’t fail?????
        Wow…

      • MtnRunner says:

Adding to the chorus here… pills, patches and rings do fail, Lola. 5 out of 100 women get preggers according to US government stats. Look up birth control methods fact sheets on womenshealth.gov and effectiveness of contraceptive methods on cdc.gov and check it our for yourself.

      • Claire. says:

I’ll just pop my head in to say let’s not lose sight of the ball. Yeah BC fails (and BC fails too LOL) but did it fail with her? 98pc chance it didn’t if she was on it.

        And play nice, my girls!

He may break a hip at his age but it’s called taking one for the team.

      • J says:

i’m curious to see post PBS gaffe, SAG/GG loss interviews instead of the older ones like this being released now

the sag no-show was after this and weird and im nosy lol

      • Lindy79 says:

I’m the same J, I’d love for him to be interviewed now. I have a feeling we’ll see a compete 180 to this confidence.
He got a harsh slap of reality after heavy promotion where he was one of the favourites, after the GG (I really thought going in, since he wasnt going against Keaton he had a really good shot) and now the SAG, add in the whole other mess and apology. Hell he might even say Sophie’s actual name! :O

      • scarf girl says:

Didn’t he do a similar no show for the BAFTAs not too many moons back? The SAG awards no show just didn’t register as news, even with the PBS thing, bc Sherlock shooting.

      • InvaderTak says:

        Muhahahaaaaa….yes. chicken walk away!

      • MtnRunner says:

J and lindy, I too would be curious as to what kind of interview he’d give after the sh*t that went down in the past month. Hardly the happy, relaxed one that he had after his beach vacay when the LA Times one was given.

Things have truly gone down the toilet for him. Makes me wonder if we’re seeing the crest of his popularity and marketability right now or not.

      • gg says:

He is SUPPOSED to be at a Human Rights Campaign dinner honoring TIG tomorrow night, in NYC. Curious if he actually turns up, considering they were filming Sherlock today. And if so, will Sophie be with?

      • Mosby says:

I just woke the house laughing at this, Lindy79.

      • icerose says:

and he is flogging the Turing politics again dragging in the Kate and William to get as much PR as possible. Everyone knows the royals are not suppose to comment publically on issues pertaining to a on government decision. And both he and Fry must have known this
I am really fed up with how Turing is being used to won an Oscar ,between ten dollar bills and using William and Kate it is all getting very very tacky especially as he has muscled in on an on going campaign without giving them any credit.

    • Claire says:

This happened at the GGs with Clooney. The reporter cut the interview off right away. Don’t know what his reaction was though.

  38. anon says:

uh oh – let the fame whoring continue. :-)
Someone took a sneaky pic of SH at a Chanel store in paris a couple of days prior to runway show with wintour.
Why or how anyone would even recognize her is beyond me!

    • **sighs** says:

Jesus. She’s never going to go away, is she? At this point I think they deserve each other.

    • Kat says:

That’s weird. There’s no way anyone would recognise her, let alone bother to take a photo.

      • Felice says:

        mmmhmmm.

I really don’t trust any phone pics anymore unless it’s a fan selfie (which are oddly absent nowadays)

I honestly don’t know her look from memory so why would a joe schmoe know what she looks like? It’s probably a plant. She’s not Kate Middleton as much as she wishes.

      • Kat says:

Nobody recognises her in *this* country, so why would someone in Paris – a) recognise her, and b) bother to take a photo?

    • **sighs** says:

I’m in no way a pregnancy denier, but how on earth does she manage to bounce from looking not preg to 5 months to 3 months to 7 months in the span of 4 weeks? Even considering the clothing choices it doesn’t make sense. I’ve been pregnant. Even in different clothes my bump did not look drastically different every time I left the house.

      • Kat says:

        Agreed, sighs.
I regularly chuckle heartily at those theories, but that bump is odd. She’s definitely playing some kind of game with this, that much was clear after PIFF.

      • Mika says:

sighs it must be a mime trick she learned that we don’t know about.
Not even BC knows about it. lol

      • lola says:

        @**sighs**
Hm, you do understand that the Chanel photo was taken two days before Valentino fashion show? Now, go, compare those pictures and tell me if this chick is pregnant.

      • tsmiv2 says:

I also agree that the bump is weird. I’m pretty sure she’s preggers, but why is she dressing to look enormous? Who does that? It’s fashionable for pregnant women to wear things that are more form fitting nowadays especially when it’s a woman who is otherwise physically fit like she is. There is no way she needs to wear a tent already. All I can come up with is she is trying to embarrass him.

    • Claire says:

Ah yes anon. You’re talking about the chanel photo that appeared on one tumblr account and nowhere else right? Cough cough cough

  39. AppleOne says:

“I think they were casually dating and she got pregnant and they decided to make a go of it. ” – my thoughts exactly. Frankly, it will be as good a marriage as any other based on years of dating or crazy love. You really just never know.

  40. ellesbelles says:

All I can picture in response to “No Regrets” is that tattoo photos floating around the web of someone who has “No Ragrets” tattood on their chest. I’m going to need Ben to consider getting that tattoo

  41. ahem says:

I get how it can seem kinda anti feminist to need to big up a lack luster candidate to “be worthy of” BC. But I’m still offended more for more accomplished women that they’re trying to place this chick at a high level. Whoever said that this is a woman who has only done the kind of minor glamour work that is available to rich girls who have connections is right. Tons of these dudes just get with models, cocktail waitresses and struggling advert “actresses.” Why should he be different? BC clearly talks out of his ass. So, it really shouldn’t be surprising that he chose the opposite of what he insinuated he was looking for. They really need to quit trying to make this woman Amal 2.0. Are they doing it because she actually isn’t all that good looking? She’s got good skin and pretty eyes, but otherwise….

Anyway, he seems a hot mess these days. Maybe he’s a complete douche. But then he’s totally lost his amazing ability to hide it. Maybe he’s going through a hard time and slowly going nuts. Either thing is a sad thing to see. I think he’s super talented (and sexy) and I really wanted him to have longevity too. It’s starting to look dicey there.

As to this being some whirlwind “we’re old, Eureka! Let’s do it” thing? I don’t buy it. That looks different and everyone “d’un certain age” knows it. He gave some BS reason for why they didn’t walk the RC together 1 month before they got engaged. If they knew in November, they knew in October. What changed to make everything from “so private it’s a secret” to such a public rush. No. I bet they were (non sexual) buddies over the years, but I don’t buy they were in contact well enough to be close or really know each other. All of this smacks of a wannabe, who could get close but only close enough to smash her face against the glass, finding an in when she started casually banging a successful, old pal. Every aspect of this pr campaign has been designed to retroactively create a relationship that didn’t happen and blur a conception date. For what reason? I genuinely believe that fan girls would initially be disappointed to hear their heart throb was off the market for any reason. But all of them would be ecstatic for him, even if he just announced that he was in love, knocked her up and they would probably get married at some point. Or (even better for Privatebatch) he could have issued a birth announcement in the summer and made a public debut with Mrs. Cumberbatch later.

Trust. These two will marry. The kid will show up in May or early June. But we won’t hear about it until late July ; -) BC will either lose it or become captain of the douchecanoe forever. And this woman’s horsey face will be everywhere. Even the press will be vaguely confused as to why but they won’t want to admit that confusion to each other. So, she’ll just keep popping up… If BC stays in the limelight. Will Sophie still profit if BC becomes last month’s flavor? I have a sick feeling it will.

He’s dumb but I hope it works out for him. And if this crashes and burns like I think it will, I hope he doesn’t end up hating and mistrusting all women. He’s tried actress/model starf*kers and posh starf*kers. But he’s yet to make an effort to find a real woman.

    • **sighs** says:

If he ends up marrying her (and sadly I think he might) I think it’s going to be one of those upper crust marriages of convenience. She goes shopping, hob knobs and occasionally does her “art”: he works, works, works, and has side pieces. The kid is brought up by nannies until it goes to boarding school.

Wow. I am super cynical today. Must be the pms. :(

      • ahem says:

I guess I was trying to believe they would get real, even if it hurts. But you’re right, **sighs**. Paint by numbers. Poor Cumberbaby. Maybe that’s what he wants. Remember that comment about JLM having to keep his wife in nice clothes and sending his kid to a co-ed boarding school? Is it too much to hope the kid doesn’t turn into an emotionally stunted, snobby brat? Probably. Gives another meaning to “kid never had a chance.”

      • Felice says:

God it’s so obnoxious that he would go for someone like that. Then again, I actually thought he would marry an American so he could get dual citizenship to work in Hollywood more.

      • **sighs** says:

Oh I still think she was a paid red carpet season girl and he was too dumb to wrap it up. But if he actually goes through with it then I believe this is what kind of relationship it will be. Sad.

    • moodgirl says:

Perfect name for SH – Starf*cker.

    • Andrea says:

I’ve seen so many “regular” people settling and in unhappy marriages/relationships amongst my own peer group, that I can’t help but think he has zero chance given his circumstances with this woman and being in the public eye.

      • Claire says:

I agree. Also if like ahem says she ends up being a kartrashian wannabe, his reputation is toast.

  42. Jenny says:

    “White boy can jump.”

    Wow he’s embarrassing.

  43. beep says:

He looks like a Camodo Dragon

  44. Dani says:

I didn’t read the comments but she wore THAT to sit FRONT ROW at Valentino? Good god.

Other than that, I think he was going to settle down with Sophie regardless. It may have just happened sooner than he’d expected. So while he’s not a man in love, he’s probably very content.

    • Andrea says:

It looks like a doily/table runner on a dining room table eh?

    • moodgirl says:

The way he has behaved since this thing started, the animosity on display between them, the rudeness and hostility that Sophie throws off to Karon and Emily and the silence from his family and friends hint that if this baby didn’t exist Sophie would be gone.

      • Andrea says:

I couldn’t agree more with this statement!

      • Felice says:

She gave Emily a hug….in front of paps…at an airport….where BC usually bolts out.

      • moodgirl says:

That hug at the airport was so fake and designed for the paps. Did anyone notice the look on Ben’s drivers face? Hilarious. Ben just stood there, looking stupid.

      • Claire. says:

The look on his face was priceless. I still really wonder what his family thinks of this woman though

      • Fuji says:

        Agreed with @moodgirl

Also, the “moving around seeing different families” separately. Couldn’t they spend Christmas all together?

Unless he is already getting used to it for when he’ll have to manage different families after the (inevitable) divorce…

      • Green Girl says:

It can get way too complicated to get family members from both your family and your partner’s to come to your home for the holidays together, especially if someone is in poor health and/or can’t travel far.

      • Fuji says:

Yep, it can but since no one in this case is in poor health and neither travelling far (Edin-London is a couple hours) I don’t see the need to spend it separately. And making a pregnant woman the one doing the travel.

      • Alice says:

Fuji. I think BC was the only one traveling. At least when he was spotted near his parents’ house he was said to be alone. Maybe SH is persona non grata at the Ventham/Carlton house.

      • Fuji says:

        @Alice

That was the possibility I was implying in reference of what moodgirl said before me.

What better chance than Christmas to spend time together? Especially the first Christmas together, with the prospect of the baby, with Benedict being always too busy and right because your in law live in another town wouldn’t it be the right occasion to meet up and know each other? Benedict had also missed his father’s birthday because he and Sodious so absolutely HAD to be in Paris on that specific day…

Now, before anyone put Wanda and Tim in a bad light, I bet they are thrilled at the idea of a granchild but maybe a little not impressed with the future DIL’s attitude. Avoiding each other? Hence having to move around seeing different families.

      • Claire. says:

Agreed Fuji! No sherlockian deduction needed. At least one party vetoed the idea of having one big family holiday. Why? Well fill in the blank here.

      • Alice says:

Hopefully, it’ll never reach the DIL stage. Wanda needs to grab him by the ears and testify on the misery of a bad marriage.
Just to add, it’s obvious that it’s a shotgun situation and he looks like a weakling knuckling under and marrying someone he clearly doesn’t love. It’d be much better to just admit the relationship was a mistake and co-parent.
Are you still peeking online, BC? Take my word, PR-wise you’re better off getting her out of your life.

      • Fuji says:

Someone on tumblr said something quite right, imo, that had B knocked up someone else, someone with a nice smile and a warm personality, not so pretentious and not keen on riding his coattails to fame, he wouldn’t look so beaten and wouldn’t be so f*cked up.

I bet someone in a true love scenario would have faced even a oops pregnancy in a totally different way, wouldn’t have exploited it for personal gain and wouldn’t have embarassed him into submission. In a true love scenario, any woman with a modicum of self respect and sure of his love would have kept a low profile (and Sodious could have done that because she wasn’t famous) and waited for an engagement and marriage AFTER the Oscar frenzy. And, let me say it, she wouldn’t have gone for that uber pricey uber tacky ring.

Basically it’s not the situation that is wrong per se, but it’s that the situation happened with the wrong person. He looks like he’s going through hell.

      • tsmiv2 says:

Speaking of family, BC was seen with Wanda today. From twitter:
        Jamie Anderson‏@ImJamieAnderson
Just bumped into Wanda Ventham and Benedict Cumberbatch in the pub. Had a nice chat about UFO.

      • Claire. says:

I hope she’s giving him a good talking to and talking him off this ledge.

        Also, notice Sourpuss wasn’t around.
Also, notice they were in a pub next time people claim Wanda is some arrogant snob.

      • Alice says:

Go, Wanda!! He needs his mamma at this point.

      • Felice says:

I know it’s not good to put any public figure on a pedestal but Wanda is just so awesome. She could probably punch someone in the face and they would say “thank you.”

  45. Andrea says:

I will say she looks smug in every picture I’ve seen her in. I think she just can’t smile well (some people just simply can’t).

  46. Toodles45 says:

She’s got a couple of new gigs from what I’ve just read:
“The British theater director and actress is preparing to direct two pieces written by British composer Benjamin Britten. One will debut at the Happy Days Enniskillen International Beckett Festival, and the other at the Aldeburgh Festival. Hunter is also due to give birth around the same time.”
Preparing two shows around the time of your due date? Good luck. I think someone with a “career” like hers is perfect for someone like BC. He can go off and work to his hearts’ content, while she has the occasional project here and there but can focus on “holding down the fort”.

In other news, there’s a German article translated on tumblr where the interviewer says BC was a total diva (took place around December). Apparently he was very arrogant, kept correcting some poor French girl’s English, and threw a total hissy fit because his quinoa salad didn’t have chicken LMAO. The interviewer was so disappointed because she expected him to act like a perfect gentleman.

    • gg says:

Since she has “done” The Rape of Lucretia before (a very deconstructed installation based on a Benjamin Britten opera) in 2011, I would suspect THAT is what she is doing at these festivals. Not actually directing two different operas! JFC…..And when I looked on the websites of both those fests they didn’t say a thing about her anyway

      • Claire says:

Cause they’re likely not her projects. But nice to see her connections are getting her pr for stuff nobody cares about

      • Claire. says:

    • Lilacflowers says:

The Aldeburgh Festival is the last two weeks of June. I

      • Claire says:

Everyone agrees she’s about 5 months along. I wonder who of us believes she’s due in June?

Wow, those gigs sure are the mark of an accomplished director. /sarc.

Must be nice to have the option to only do “work” that doesn’t pay the bills.

Must be nice to have the option to only do “work” that doesn’t pay the bills because living off family money trumps having a work ethic.

    • tasha_nat says:

I just read that article with the quinoa diva behaviour LOL. The writer backtracks a bit and rationalizes his attitude, but hilarious nonetheless.

  47. Reece says:

As for the dress, did anyone look at the Valentino collection? That dress/shirt is actually pretty on point. I wonder if they sent it to her to wear but didn’t show it.

  48. Dawn says:

Damn, dudes. Retract those claws. This guy has been going on about being obsessed with having kids and getting married ASAP for quite some time, so this should come as no surprise. I mean..Sophie isn’t anything I’d get excited about either. Kind of a traditional uppercrust bland society type, but a perfectly respectable woman. BC seems pretty traditional and milquetoast himself. I’m sure his parents approve of the match and he seems just the type to value that above all else. She’s exactly the sort of woman that I would picture him with. Sophie seems very suited to him and will likely make a stable solid partner and parent.

    • Kat says:

There really are no ‘Claws’ out. It really peeves me off when women accuse other women of being catty if they’re not just gushing praise at a weird situation. Just because he’s been vocal about having a family, that doesn’t mean it’s something wonderful, no matter the circumstances.
Who knows how respectable she is or what his parents think? There’s more to being respectable than family money.
The whole situation is bizarre…it’s nothing to do with her being ‘milquetoast’

  49. Megan says:

Well, what else is he going to say? Someone please help me from my poor choices?

  50. Ree says:

What else is he gonna say?? I m planning a shotgun wedding and dodging events to avoid baby questions and look at my fiancee as a leper. He is just convincing himself or HW whichever suits u. Maybe TIG ll be the last hit he delivers if this pissy attitude and buying into own hype continues.

  51. scarf girl says:

I understand the date/fiancée of an Oscar nominee needing to shop for a couture dress for the ceremony. Totally get it. After seeing the dresses at Valentino, slightly apprehensive as to the choices that might be made because some of those dresses belong in Elizabethan England only. But if this ends up being a couture/Tatler society wedding, it says so much about them and their ambitions about how they want to be perceived in London society.

    • moodgirl says:

I think this bigged up wedding is Sophie’s idea. Ben stated that he wanted a very private wedding, obviously because he doesn’t want to be photographed at the altar with a bride who is seven or eight months pregnant.

He is mortified but Sophie is milking it for all it’s worth and imho is doing all of this to garner attention for herself and get in the public eye as much as she can, and to embarrass him as much as possible to establish her power and control in their partnership. She is the captain of this ship and she is going to make him see that. If he marries her he will regret it for the rest of his life. He is the stupidest man on the face of the earth.

      • scarf girl says:

Although I think it is true she is a strong influencer, I don’t buy she is the captain. I just can’t. I think it was probably his suggestion as much as hers that she go to the shows with Anna. He wants the elite image. If he didn’t, there wouldn’t have been the Times announcement or a shotgun wedding.

      • Oops! says:

I can see him wanting to actually have a little wedding and not just the justice of the peace. But I don’t see him giddy to have a big, fat wedding and 7-8 month preggo bride waddling down the aisle toward him. He definitely imagined his wedding photos differently. And he is definitely the type of dude who has imagined his wedding. Only way I could see him happy to put on a big ass party and ceremony with coordinated colors in designer everything is if he got to marry someone he was staggeringly, crushingly in love with. I don’t think he’d be able to keep that kind of feeling under the lid even if he wanted to. He’s too emotional/moody.

      • tsmiv2 says:

@oops I agree with you about the wedding. I cannot imagine him wanting a big fat knocked up bride! I really can’t even picture that being what she wants either.

  52. Alix says:

“No regrets”? Gee, how romantic. Five years, tops.

  53. GreenTurtle says:

He’s been chugging away at his career for 10 years? Wooooow! I like how we’re supposed to be impressed with celebrities that “pay their dues” before coming into money that most of us could never dream of. Yeah, Bendy, we peasants have mostly chugged our way up to middle management after 10 years.
It’s startling the way he talks about SH in interviews. She’s his tool, the object of his devotional love. Whatever. He’s a narcissist, and he’s using this woman as a life accessory because he likes the thought of having a marriage and all of that. It just seems like he’s more interested in the trappings of it than the thing itself, if that makes sense. Most importantly, it’s all about how whatever and whomever he acquires makes him look.

  54. FRESHMEAT says:

Heard this on the radio here in Canada this morning and just about choked on my toast with laughter. It’s a comedy spoof of BC being someone’s emergency contact and what follows. I’m thinking after hearing this SH needed him for this reason. ha!

    http://www.cbc.ca/player/Radio/The+Irrelevant+Show/Sketches/ID/2650234873/

  55. ANON says:

Is it just me or at the Valentino show does she look a little ‘Heathcliff, it’s me Cathy, I’ve come home!’…

  56. Melain says:

Non-sequitur: Anna Wintour is a crappy dresser. I had an ugly dress like the one she’s wearing. But that was in first grade. She wears an ugly dress in every picture, Why is she stylish? Is it just me?

  57. Ingrid says:

I took a much needed Cumberbreak. I feel rested and happy and Sodious-free.

I see he is still saying stupid sh*t and her bump keeps changing. So nothing new.

Oh, do take a look at People. Sodious and her wedding dress hunt is breaking news. PR elfs just won’t give up, it seems. And people’s usually tame comment section is hilarious.

    • Claire. says:

Ingrid! Just when I was wondering where you’d gone! I’m glad you’re back :)

    • Felice says:

You are more more wise than I

    • anonymous says:

Nah… Please DO NOT FEED THE FAMEWHORE MORE PUBLICITY.
Whether its her pr or his they obviously want to use Benedict’s fandom to increase her popularity. And you will be helping her along if you click on those articles about her. She is a nobody. Let’s keep it that way and focus on the real talent Benedict Cumberbatch :-)

  58. Katie says:

Oh dear dear dear. No regrets. That is exactly how I want my husband to discuss his pride in our union.
I suppose if you stay in the spotlight long enough, you get the chance to wear on people and tarnish your image. I just hope he sticks around long enough to repair it.

  59. Claire. says:

Another thing we can add to the list of Benedict shamelessly using for his campaign: pardoning gay men who were prosecuted. A most noble thing but doesn’t need “nominated for an oscar” attached to it. Also, will and Kate just rejected it.

    • moodgirl says:

Why Kate, of all people, does she even have power? Why not Prince Charles? I think he called on her so he could get in their circle. Trying too hard.

      • Claire. says:

Because they’re his age, most likely to have progressive values on this matter, prince charles has had some gay scandals among his staff, and you just don’t call on the Queen for such matters. You ask will and Kate and they would ask their grandmother.

    • j says:

because they’re more liberal and likely to raise the issue privately

imo his campaign is over and its likely part of the movie campaign but at the same time, they should be doing this. its ridiculous they only pardoned for turing and ignored the rest of them

      • icerose says:

they should be doing it but it would have been nice if they had given credit a long standing campaign which has been going on before Benny found his gay politics, Involving Kate and Wiliam is pure PR because the royals are not allowed to comment or interfere with government decisions and BC would have known that. There has been some issues about Charles having written to government officials which is a huge no no and the royals are trying to stop the letters becoming public
And it is PR for the film not for the actual cause if not why did he leave it to now to jump on board when the stamp and ten dollar bill thing has fallen flat.

  60. Chantal says:

I could careless if BC sleeps with Medusa or the Virgin Marie. That his is business. I must admit my friend from NY who is a big cumberbitch. Sorry, cumberperson just made me laugh on the phone. She thinks and her cumber people friends think that SH found a sugar daddy or cash cow to support her and her avant garde arts supporting friends. She will be funneling his money to them. In other words, he will be supporting her and her friends lifestyle. I have no idea who her friends are. If they are rich or poor. I said, if he is dumb enough to let that happen than he would deserve it. The things people come up with to excuse this adult man for not using a freaking condom with another consenting adult woman is beyond comprehension. I told her that. she got so mad she hanged up on me. The passion for this actor! LOL

  61. Felice says:

Ok folks, the first 5 days of the month is when something “totally not out of the blue” happens regarding this thing. What do you think it will be?

    • Sunflower says:

I’m just dying to see what’s going to happen next…feels like waiting for the next series to start when the last one ended on a cliffhanger. You’d think I’d be used to that…

      • Felice says:

The suspense is killing me…I hope it lasts :-D

      • moodgirl says:

Posted on SoGo that SH’s wiki page states that she and Benedict had been dating for a year before they got engaged. Benedict’s IMDB page states the same. I wonder if the nannies are trying to make them look legitimate and in love or his pr team.

      • Felice says:

They’re trying to milk it. He said he was single during the TFE press tour and was out with various other women before June.

      • Sunflower says:

The problem is that it’s been published elsewhere (People, I think) and now it will be really hard to change since it can be cited. Doesn’t matter who did it, but it does fit PR’s twu wuv 5evah narrative and not rushed shotgun wedding one. Someone on Tumblr calculated (being very generous) that since the Hay festival they have likely spent only 60-odd days together before getting engaged, not to mention the post that exists with pics of him with other women while they were supposedly dating.

      • Claire. says:

Are those articles of being seen with other women still up? Yes they are. Can’t whitewash facts…at least not yet. don’t forget SH’s brother telling the Mirror the day after they only got serious in late summer after a few months of dating. Oops.

      • Kat says:

It really is irrelevant that People claimed that utter nonsense. It’s a complete trash rag that prints exactly what they’re told to by PR. Eveyone knows this.
It’s also 100% fact that she showed up at the end of May and didn’t start to be seen with him until the french open.
She wasn’t anywhere near him until that time, that much is clear. What a tacky rag like people claim and a dodgy wiki citation means nothing.

    • moodgirl says:

He will marry her but who knows when. I really don’t think he cares any more, he probably just wants to get it over with so he can restore his reputation and move on with life. He has gone through the gamut of emotions connected with Sophie – shock, betrayal, embarrassment, fear – and realizes that people really don’t care and won’t hold it against him. So he’ll marry her and just live with it.

I’ve never believed that you can learn to love someone; either the emotions are there or they’re not. I have friends who got pregnant and married the guy, saying that they would gotten married anyway. Then why didn’t you? It never lasts. My co-worker married a guy in the air force and when they divorced a short time later, he wouldn’t even acknowledge her.

I don’t care what the nannies think but I bet big money that Benedict feels trapped by SH. It would explain his extreme animosity toward her when this whole thing started. And the anger that he has communicated will never go away, he’ll just hide it. And become more and more angry as time goes by. He’ll crack soon because deep down he despises her, he can’t hide this.

    • oops says:

Karon adds: Sophie was delighted to wear the Valentino stilettos gifted her by her best friend, Anna Wintour, because she does not have pregnancy cankles. Pregnancy cankles are for women who are several months pregnant (and fat girls). Not Sophie. Sophie is only a couple of months along. Benedict and Sophie’s friend, Anna, said, “Like, oh my god! I’m so happy for them. They are the perfect couple. They look related. And he’s soooooo dreamy. And she is such a noble, delicate beauty. And she gets to ride the Cumberdick! Sophie is everything I aspire to be. She is a total style star.”

      • Felice says:

        @ oops
I was like “huh?” and then I kept reading >_<

      • Oops! says:

@Felice Um, yeah. I meant this to end up under your statement about wondering what our February 5-8 surprise would be. There was another part too, but I guess it got lost…. I basically said that we could get another announcement from Karon that the deed was done.

      • Felice says:

        @oops
From my tinfoil standpoint and pure speculation because they have to do something because literally no one cares anymore: It’s either going to be a surprise wedding which is improbable because there’s been nothing at the registry or there’s going to be a good ol’ fashion public breakup.

      • moodgirl says:

If they realize that no one cares then maybe he will figure out that he has options other than tying himself to a sinking ship. Cross your fingers it will be the breakup.

      • oops says:

I could see it going either way. I’ve seen a lot of speculation today suggesting BC is way more into her than she’s into him. I don’t believe that, but if a break up was coming, it would look better with her breaking it off. But if I’m really honest, I think this will end in a wedding. If they’re actually in love, it makes sense. If not, no matter the situation, I think he cares too much about “yet another failed relationship” in the press.

From some interviews, it seems like that scathing, bullshit romantic profile of him in the Daily Mail a few years back really hit a nerve. Whatever. I hope he gets over himself, gets happiness and stops acting like an a-hole.

      • hermi says:

There is no way he will not marry the mother of his child. The man has talked about wanting a child since forever. Even if he’s becoming disillusioned with her bad attitude (which may well be the reason he looks so dead-eyed), he certainly won’t desert her now. And as for her, guys come on! She’s got her claws into a rich, popular man, she won’t let go now!

      • Kat says:

But just because he’s always wanted a child, I can’t see how he’d willingly condemn himself to marrying the wrong person, it’s just crazy. Although, nothing fails to shock me about this anymore.

      • Alice says:

And he backtracked on that last year, saying he could wait. And he said he liked being a godfather because all the fun, no responsibilities. Doesn’t sound like a man desperate for immediate fatherhood.

And he can be a father without being a husband. Happens lots of times.

      • hermi says:

        Seriously guys? :)
The man is old-fashioned, even though he tries to spin the cool vibe for his fans; so old fashioned he almost talks like an Austen character. He will definitely marry her. And they will stay that way until she says so. Because make no mistakes, she’s the one wearing the (unflattering) pants in that relationship.

      • Kat says:

There’s old fashioned and there’s just plain stupid.
I don’t really think he talks like an Austen character. His values are endearingly traditional but he doesn’t really convey anything unusual in his speech.

He may very well marry her, but that makes him incredibly silly and he’s going to need all the help he can get. Just won’t end well.
And I agree that she’s very much in charge.

      • hermi says:

Have you listened to him talk at the GQ awards? He said it himself that he belongs to another era (to me, it;’s a compliment).
It may well end in tears, but who knows what people want from relationships? He may well want a posh woman with impeccable background to look stately in pics while he collects his OBE (or other) from the Queen. Many are ready to concur that he’s very snobby that way, so maybe pedigree is all he cares for. On the other end, I remember a picture of him and Olivia where she was wearing the same Primark dress I own (it cost me all of £12), so he wasn’t so particular back then. :)

      • Kat says:

Belonging to another era, is a lovely quality and endearing but that is very different from being a superficial snob who cares about ‘pedigree’…Cripes, does anyone outside Crufts even consider that?
It’s also very different to being foolish enough to trap himself in a marriage that’s not right.

I think some people make really unfair projections and assumptions on him. He’s not done anything to suggest that he’s a vacuous snob who cares about backgrounds and class.
Also, what’s so ‘impeccable’ about her background exactly? What have I missed?

      • hermi says:

I don’t say I do believe it, I just say it’s been suggested.
Well, she’s been to all the right schools and belongs to the right class. He’s not exactly marrying a Maxine Peake type is he? :)

      • oops says:

@Kat I’d love to be wrong about him and class. But I actually think he has quite a conflicted relationship with the concept. I feel like there was a part of him that accepted skating around the edges of the posh world. But when his success ramped up, more social and sexual opportunities opened up. Maybe, that young/adolescent desire to fit in, to climb, to be popular reared it’s ugly, subconscious head. Most teenage boys who aren’t big man on campus dream of the day they pull up to the school reunion in a hot sports car, with an even hotter girl, wearing the coolest in designer clothing, throwing a handful of cash without counting it at the valet, etc. Most boys’ dreams don’t come true. BC isn’t most boys. And, in the world that he might have wanted to totally belong to, trophy girl is pedigree. Not especially beautiful, talented or whatever, but pedigreed.

      • Felice says:

@oops I always thought that about him. He’s trying to compensate from the Harrow days.

      • ANON says:

I actually agree with what someone said earlier. I think he may be a lot more into her than she is to him. The way he talks about it is weird generally but the way he says:
“being devoted to that person takes you away from yourself. There’s someone more important. Not that that’s a reason to be in a relationship, but it’s a very healthy byproduct of it when you’re doing such an obsessional job as acting can be”
Don’t mean to get all psychoanalysis but making the other person in your relationship more important than yourself is actually quite unhealthy. I understand it so far as she will be the mother of his child, absolutely, but I’ve always thought he talks about marriage and kids in quite a dependent way, in a way that implies he needs them in order to be happy/complete.
I think they were dating, she got pregnant and it was a combination of having always wanted marriage/kids, being 38, about to embark on an Oscar campaign and facing Jude Law-esque headlines, he thought it best to get married. I feel like it’s a decision he’s made totally with head, not heart. I don’t get the impression his heart is really in it.
I think she sometimes appears tired of him. But her achievements are no greater than a number of people I know who went to drama school (odd bits of TV/film acting, some writing and directing). I think after a long time struggling to make it she’s probably enjoying her time in the limelight. I just think it’s a bit crass to start shopping at Chanel the minute you’re engaged to a wealthy man and if I were him I’d be dubious about anyone who would take advantage of the opportunities she seems to be. Though, for all we know, it could all be on his/pr’s suggestion in an attempt to upgrade her.
There’s really nothing about this situation that sits comfortably.

      • Kat says:

        @ANON

I agree with a lot of what you say, but as for the comment he made about SH, there was nothing natural or believable about that at all.
It sounded so awkward, superficial and overdone. I also don’t believe he’d say anything like that publicly. He’s trying hard to sell something and he just isn’t very good at being disingenuous.

      • ANON says:

I agree, the way he describes ‘his devotional love’, to me, seems unnatural, like he’s over compensating.
It reminds me of the bit in 40-year old virgin when he says boobs feel like a bag of sand.

      • alice says:

“I think they were dating, she got pregnant and it was a combination of having always wanted marriage/kids, being 38, about to embark on an Oscar campaign and facing Jude Law-esque headlines, he thought it best to get married. Then why not get married the minute you find out you’re pregnant? Go to the JP and get it over with then spin it “Oh, we’re so in love we eloped.” People their age and situation don’t need any big, fancy folderol. The longer it goes on, the more holes people can see in it and throw shade.

Old story – casual fwb gets knocked up, trapped-feeling guy proposes in a panic but wants out somehow. Timing(awards)makes that difficult.

And I don’t believe he’s been faking a smart, funny, sometime goofy, but workaholic personality for ten years while he’s been looking for a dull, snooty, snotty, “artiste” hanger-on to spend his life with.

      • Sunflower says:

        +1 @alice, #94

      • Lu says:

@alice Why not get married right away? Maybe because he doesn’t really want to marry her and is waiting it out. He may have gotten engaged to her because of the potential for those Jude Law-esque headlines, to quiet those sorts of judgments if it became known that she was pregnant, but remember that when he was asked about it a month or so later, he said he was in no hurried to get married. He probably wanted to string her along for a while. Then, next thing you know, SH showed up looking super-preg at Palm Springs and got everyone talking about the baby the baby the baby. Now his feet are to the fire.

      • alice says:

Lu That is exactly what I meant – if he really wanted to marry her because of oopsie then it would have happened last September or whenever she sprang it on him. None of that “classy” engagement stuff followed by a preggo fiancée. He doesn’t show any signs of a man wanting to be married to this particular woman. I’ve said many times before just drag it out, baby born, followed not long after by “Our careers/lives took us in opposite directions. We will always care for each other, but have concluded that separate lives and co-parenting are the best options. Thank you for your concern.”

Work will keep him busy and a substantial payoff/child support will keep Sophie happy.

      • hermi says:

So you all think he was flat-out lying when he said in that interview: I just got engaged to the most incredible woman I know.
Why say that if he wasn’t in love?
Please don’t bite, I’m really wondering.
I find it hard to understand what’s so incredible about SH, but for some reason he seems to think so.

      • Alice says:

@hermi. What else is he going to say? Hey, Guys, it’s awards season and I just found out I knocked up this woman I dated two or three times, so guess what, we’re engaged.
That would be closer to the truth IMO.

      • hermi says:

He could have said “No comment”. Many people who want their lives to remain private do just that. He could have said “We are very happy, thanks very much.”
I’m just playing devil’s advocate here.
I agree with you lately he looks dejected and awkward, but for what it’s worth this is my take (and please don’t hate me, I don’t like the woman either):
he was very much in love (don’t know about her), caught in the moment, and everything was perfect until they were keeping it a secret. Now they have gone public the strain he’s getting to them, especially to her, who doesn’t like all the attention he gets (read: from women). She gets stroppy and annoyed (see the tantrums she pulled on the RC) and he doesn’t like it. So maybe he starts seeing her with less rose-tinted glasses and maybe thinks: what have I got myself into? Hence the miserable look.
I think every romance is perfect until it clashes with reality. And then you have to live with that day in day out.

      • Kat says:

        @hermi

Nobody is going to hate you for having an opinion, don’t worry!
But in love with her? Nah… They spent v little time together really and anyone who did see them together didn’t see anything that suggested couple.
He was away working for a good deal of the summer and why sit with her so publicly at the FO if it was a new relationship? He just wouldn’t do it.

      • hermi says:

There is a thing I want to add to explain why I think he may be in love, while she is not as into him.
Everybody has commented on how openly affectionate he always was with previous girlfriends. and now he’s mostly awkward. Which means it’s her choice, not his.
So if he’s in love, wants to show off his feelings in his usual touchy-feely way but she doesn’t like PDAs, then maybe that’s why their public appearances always look so contrived.
If he’s agreed to do that to please her, doesn’t mean he has to like it. :)

      • Sunflower says:

Hermi, if you haven’t heard him say those words, or watched the way he can’t talk about his fiancé/engagement without looking down in a way that suggests, at best, that he’s extremely uncomfortable and at worst, he’s lying through his teeth, then I can understand how you might be confused. Highly suggest you check it out. There are some great links on Sophie Hunter Gossip blog on Tumblr.

      • hermi says:

I have listened now to that Forever more thing and it sounds bizarre. But doesn’t he always sound a bit strange when he pontificates about something? Maybe, it’s just Benedict crazy in love, as in struck by a love bomb. :)
I don’t know… I have always rated him as intelligent and a true gentleman and in my book these two things don’t sit well with him lying about the woman he’s supposed to marry.
But it is true that it all lacks spontaneity and joy. Especially joy. I was expecting him to be so ecstatic, bouncing up and down, and instead he look constipated :)

      • Kat says:

        @hermi

Who’s to say whether she likes PDAs or not? Nobody knows that.
But it’s not really about PDAs anyway. Nobody expects or wants OTT physicality; real chemistry and warmth transcends this.

And as for the npr thing, no, he usually sounds natural and passionate when he’s talking about something he actually truly means. It sounds like a script that he hadn’t quite learnt. A great actor and a very bad liar.

These a great post on the ‘benedictcumberbatchsitsinchairs’ blog about this, It kind of sums up everything I think has happened.
This site doesn’t seem to allow Tumblr links, but go find it.

      • hermi says:

        I will! Thanks! :)
ps I just said she doesn’t like PDAs, because when I saw them (It was indeed moi) he tried to put his arm around her shoulders and she did not reciprocate, nor did seem happy about him doing so. But maybe I’m pontificating now. :)
@claire I’m not playing anyone, but I see that there is no way of pleasing some people other then agreeing with them. I like to make up my own mind though, which is what I am trying to do.

      • tsmiv2 says:

Problem is she’s been super clingy since the pregnancy reveal. Papped shots at airports she’s got her hand on his arm or awkward hand holding and weird thumb holding at the globe with him looking pissed. I think they may have brokered some kind of a deal to keep up appearances til after award season. And throwing his arm around her in July proves nothing. How could he be in love with her on July 15th when he had spent the previous 4 weeks in Boston without her?? How does she have an impeccable background when she hasn’t had a job in years?? And yes, I think he was lying about ‘most incredible woman’ crap. That’s the kind of thing men say because they feel obligated to say something complimentary. Frankly, I just don’t think he knows her very well and that’s why they are awkward together. She got knocked up really quickly and that week in the Caribbean after Xmas is probably the most time they have spent together so they looked a little more comfortable after that.

      • hermi says:

@tsmiv2 I meant impeccable family background (as in ancestry): my fault I wasn’t clear. I know she’s done little in terms of work.
I have to say that the “most incredible woman I have ever known” thing annoys me mostly on behalf of Olivia Poulet. I know she probably doesn’t give a a damn, but it seems so lacking in class. He could have said “I’m engaged to a wonderful woman”, without having to make some sort of hyperbole that implies a comparison. You can say that in private, you don’t need to say it live on air. But he’s known to suffer from foot in mouth disease. :)

      • moodgirl says:

You are in a dream world. Everything about him says he doesn’t like this woman.

      • Sunflower says:

@alice is totally on point today!

There’s just so much awkwardness between those two, no one will ever convince me that either party is or was in love. Watched 22 Jump Street this weekend: “you gotta interlock it though. If you don’t interlock it you might as well be friends!” I died.

      • Claire. says:

Agree, Alice is nailing it! And I think it’s obvious by now Hermi is playing you guys like a fiddle.

      • moodgirl says:

“Agree, Alice is nailing it! And I think it’s obvious by now Hermi is playing you guys like a fiddle.”

        Yep.

      • Kat says:

        @hermi

Good god yes. Everything he’s said about the woman has been completely OOC , overdone and just weird. The ‘most incredible woman I know’… Do you really think he’d say something like that publicly if he truly had met someone he found to be incredible? He’d protect an important relationship. He was conveniently spouting out soundbites for the press blitz.
His utter inability to say anything convincing about her has been one of the main reasons I thought..wtf
        - “dropped a crazy love bomb”
        - “I only need the support of the woman I proposed to”
        - “I only have one favourite”
        - “I didn’t want people seeing a grainy photo of the ring and us looking lovingly into each other’s eyes” …huh
“Forevermore, home, heart, fiancee, her name is sophie hunter” ..the audio of which is just….wtf

And if he didn’t look like he was watching someone kill his dog while he was saying these things, they wouldn’t even seem as bad as that.

      • hermi says:

“Forevermore, home, heart, fiancee, her name is sophie hunter” OMG, did he really say that?????????? It sounds like a cheerleader anthem :) :)

      • moodgirl says:

Come on, hermi. What would you expect him to say, “I just got engaged to a perfect witch that I accidentally impregnated after knowing her a few weeks.”

      • Lu says:

@alice Let’s all hope so! I thought we were on the same page, but I wasn’t sure.

      • tsmiv2 says:

@Alice is right. Why aren’t they already married, if both of them really wanted to be? The fantasy, fairytale wedding flew out the window when the stick turned blue so there’s no reason to wait. They could have gotten hitched immediately and then announced a baby once it became too obvious to deny. They both would have come out of it looking better imho. If they had done it right, nobody would have been the wiser about which came first marriage or conception. I’m not entirely convinced that they will make it down the aisle.

      • Claire. says:

Great post tsmiv, and I hope you’re right they may not make it down the aisle.

      • Oops! says:

@tsmiv2 & @Alice – I totally get where you’re coming from about getting married sooner than later if they really were giddy in love and pregnant. At this point in life, if I were in that situation, I’d probably do just as you say. But playing devil’s advocate, even as an “older couple,” two people who have never married before and are romantic and sentimental might WANT to have a big fat wedding. I don’t know what their deal is. They’re totally off and weird. But just because someone is older doesn’t mean that they’re “over it” when it comes to getting married. Why shouldn’t they fulfill their dreams just because they aren’t 25 anymore? Parties are only for people who were lucky enough to find love earlier in life?

      • Alice says:

Oops. It’s just that if they’re in love, romantic and sentimental, they are hiding it well. I think he can’t believe that he’s caught in this situation and is delaying as long as possible.

      • mandapanda says:

Ah. Anon. I will remember that when I want people to think I am into someone. I will not mention their name or gush.

      • Alice says:

Sounds like Olivia has values – pretentious designer duds are not a priority.

      • hermi says:

        @alice I second that :)

      • Lu says:

@hermi Except she’s not posh. There’s a difference between posh and privileged. She may be in Debrett’s or whatever because of her ancestors, but her background is certainly not impeccable. Her personal background should be considered when weighing posh credentials, if there even is any evidence that that’s what he cares about. It’s not as if he’d be marrying into the aristocracy, even the minor aristocracy. She’s just a girl who went to a posh school, didn’t finish Oxford, and became a theatre artiste, with no real success.

Edit: Remember Princess Diana? You can’t get much more aristocratic than that. Well, I mean, you can, but her background was unimpeachably posh. And yet even she had that little smirch on her background with her mother’s divorce. I think she was considered something like “The Bolter” in Nancy MItford’s “Love in a Cold Climate.”

      • hermi says:

@Lu OK, maybe I wasn’t specific enough, or as Sherlock would say ‘semantics’ :)
What I meant is he would never marry anyone he deems less than himself, no matter how clever, gutsy or gorgeous that woman was. I’m pretty convinced he wanted someone of his class, possibly with good ancestry too, just so he could feel he had nor traded down.
But maybe I am wrong and she’s the most fantastic woman ever.
        Time will tell.

      • Alice says:

If that interview upset him he better steel himself. The tabloids are all moonbeams and rainbows when they’re pushing a fairytale, but after the prince and princess get together, it turns into a nightmare. There’s no way the tabs aren’t aware of all this chatter and they will use it later and probably dig up even more. Only question is who will be the villain and who the victim in their spin.

      • Kat says:

        @oops
What on earth are these people basing him being ‘more into her than him’ on? I’ve never seen such awkward and disconnected body language.

      • alice says:

Kat There is a discussion on BTT about sudden “sightings” of Sophie with BC at the theatre last July. She comes off looking bad(as usual), but the implication is that he’s into her. Pics seem to show Vicki at The Crucible with him. Who knows. If he was ever into her(doubt it), he must be a masochist.

      • Claire. says:

More than masochistic its just nonsensical. Who sleeps with someone who brushes off basic gestures of affection like that? Why would you even continue to be attracted to that person? Am I missing something? Lol

      • Kat says:

        @alice

But where are people even getting that notion from?

      • alice says:

Kat Which notion – that he’s into her? There were posts here yesterday about seeing BC/SH at the theatre, with him attempting to put his arm around her. True or not? Odd that it was never mentioned before, but the recent sightings of separate outings might require making people think they were dating back then with him more serious. BTT shows a pic of him with Vicki at The Crucible in July. Maybe she was mistaken for SH.

Whatever is going on, he seems to have lost his glow, his enthusiasm and it all started around the time of this misbegotten engagement. I get tired of nannies saying one is not a true fan if you don’t buy what is being sold. I think recognizing something is seriously bothering him and hoping he makes it through is better than lapping up the PR drivel.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens at BAFTA this Sunday.

      • Kat says:

        @alice

Yes, exactly that notion. What on earth has he done or said to make anyone think he’s sweet on her? I mean..honestly. Every word that comes out his mouth screams the opposite and the body language is insanely awful.
Is this because an unidentified poster claims they saw him put his arm on her shoulder in July? Jesus h Christ.

      • Linz says:

        @Alice.

Again, that photo of Benedict and Viki is from 2012.

      • alice says:

Linz Sorry. Got that info on BTT.

      • Linz says:

        @Alice.

Photo of Benedict and Viki at the Theatre is from 2012. Also several people have said that Benedict was alone at The Crucible.

      • Claire. says:

Thanks for that linz. I knew there was something fishy about Hermi after a couple posts.

      • alice says:

Claire. Same impression here. Posts that sounded like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth that always rounded back to Ben’n'Sophie4evah. Suspected trolling to wind everyone up.

      • hermi says:

Hello, I’m not a troll, but I guess me saying it won’t convince you. Anyway, we all agree that he was with whomever in 2012, but he definitely was not alone at the Crucible. I wish somebody would ask SH how she liked it and Ben too. You know, one of these Woody Allen moments when the person in question shows up and tells the truth of how it happened. :)
Anyway, I don’t see what the big deal is. They were spotted together long before that date, it’s not like I’ve re-invented the wheel :)
And all I said was they didn’t look happy, he tried being affectionate, she was cold. How can this be interpreted as Ben&S forever I don’t know.
To conclude (I will leave not because of trolling, but because I’m clearly persona non grata here), if we have to accept their strange time-line of dating since one year ago, I say bullshit. These two in July were not two people already in an established relationship.
        Bye now.

      • oops says:

@Kat I don’t know. It came out of nowhere. I think hermi said that was his/her impression based on what she saw at the theater. Personally, I think he’s like most men in that department. He can’t hide it when he’s with a girl he’s into and wants to be fawned over by his woman. It’s an ego thing. Most men want to be “The Man.” I can’t see him as having low enough self esteem to desperately cling to someone who’s not crazy about him.

      • Kat says:

        @oops

It does seem to be based on this one claim that they looked like hell but he put his hand on her shoulder. Weird.

Personally, I’ve never seen a man so obviously not into he woman he’s with. He can’t even hold her hand with conviction and looks like he’s being slowly set on fire in photos with her. If he’s ‘into her’, give him an Oscar for that performance because he’s hiding that insanely well.

      • hermi says:

OK, got to go back to my work now, but I wanted to ask (myself too): do you still consider him a nice, decent man? After all this debacle of lying and pandering to the PR machine and pretending to be in love with someone he’s not, what do you think of him as a man?

      • Sunflower says:

It varies from person to person, but many (including myself) still see him as a decent guy who got caught between a rock and hard place. Many (including myself) don’t think he’s doing the right thing by marrying someone he doesn’t love just because he accidentally knocked her up. We may seem very critical, but we just want him to be happy again.

      • tsmiv2 says:

I don’t think he’s a bad person for knocking up a casual date. I don’t think he’s a bad person for participating in a showmance either. I think he is gullible and naive and he is trapped, at least for the time being. After the Oscar nonsense, they may split or they may marry. Either way, it ain’t what the PR tried to sell it as.

      • **sighs** says:

But knowing she was going to be his red carpet season girlfriend, and as someone stated above, he is very aware of people around him. I’m sure he was at least trying to play up that he was on a date…breadcrumbs for when they had to really go public. She just wasn’t that into it. Til she started getting in magazines. I think she’s quite the devious one.

      • hermi says:

@sighs This makes sense to me. Maybe you are right. About the devious thing, I concur.
Even my friend, who is the best person I know and never has anything bad to say about anyone, gets an evil vibe from SH. Maybe they will be “forevermore” happy. If so, the man is truly lucky: looks, brains, talent, fame, love, happiness, family, money, health. He has it all :)

      • gg says:

THB, I think that DM profile was probably about 95% accurate……just my gut feeling

  62. maudfricker says:

Well himself and Wanda were spotted in a pub this afternoon. No sign of Sophie

    • Chantal says:

After a week of loosing at GG, SAG and colourgate, a boy needs his Mama. No one else will do damn it! He is crying for his mommy (image is funny to me).

@felice re to #33 white sheet question
Maybe she is sitting on the hood and cross. LOL

    • moodgirl says:

Maybe she is trying to talk him out of it or helping him get down his liquid courage. Either way, I don’t think it’s a good sign.

      • Felice says:

Well, if they were trying to do a “Hey see? There’s no issues between Wanda and Sophie.” He would’ve mentioned she was there.

      • moodgirl says:

It was only this afternoon. He’s getting support from his mother but his fiancee is nowhere to be seen – maybe SH is still in Paris. Maybe it was meant to be a mom/son get together but have we ever seen SH and Wanda in the same place? Why do I think that BC and SH don’t live together?

  63. tasha_nat says:

“Had a nice chat about UFO.”

Okay, I’ll admit it. With all the talk of CometSophies, that tweet made me giggle.

  64. hermi says:

I have actually seen her “live” last summer and we (my friend and I) didn’t know they were dating. My friend said “if that’s the woman he’s going out with, there’s hope for us all”. She looked like a man dressed like a homeless person on a very bad hair day, and I’ve never seen a couple newly in love so miserable in my life. When you saw pictures of him with Olivia Poulet back in the day, they always looked happy and at ease, while now he always looks like he’s on tenterhooks. Maybe that’s what devotion looks like. LOL.

    • Felice says:

      The Hay Festival?

      • moodgirl says:

Everyone who has seen them in public always comments about how miserable they looked. If he was that unhappy why screw her? It’s not like he didn’t have loads of options – he could have called Katia in an emergency. Maybe she really was intended to be the red carpet girl and he got careless. I can’t imagine being in the same place with someone who made me that unhappy, not to mention having relations with him.

      • hermi says:

No. It was outside the Crucible at the Old Vic in July.
And by the way, he was trying to put his arm around her shoulder, but boy she did not like it. I can understand her not being gropey on the red carpet, but in private???? Nobody was really paying attention, we only noticed them because they were right behind us and I recognised his voice. And later, we were walking to the tube and bumped into them again (they were walking right in front of us). Not once did I see them smile or, I don’t know, hold hands? Touch? Laugh? I actually thought they might be going to a funeral. I know the Crucible is a serious play, but come on! :)

      • Felice says:

What were they talking about and was she listening to him? I’m sorry it’s just there’s barely any tea right now lol

      • hermi says:

We didn’t pay attention. The only thing we heard is she didn’t want to go say hello to Richard Armitage, so he went on his own after having asked a few times whether she was sure. So off he went, like the good boy he is. ps how any sane woman would say no to getting up close and personal with Mr Armitage is a mystery to me :)

      • Lu says:

@hermi I don’t get it. He was photographed with his friend Viki-something as his companion at “The Crucible” last summer. I think she’s got long, curly hair, brunette. Are you saying that Sophie was there, too?

      • Felice says:

He does look very pissed off in that picture with his friend (I’m sorry I feel really weird saying her name since I don’t know her and she’s not publicly acknowledged like Emily) and it does tie into someone saying he was arguing with someone

      • **sighs** says:

Hermi- totally with you about Mr. Armitage. I would have run like a banshee backstage and left Mr. C in the dust.
How did you like the Crucible?

      • hermi says:

It was on the 15th July and it was definitely SH (dressed in pyjama pants and not the flattering type). There was no one else with them when we saw them. No one was paying them any mind. They just didn’t seem happy to be together.
        @sighs the Crucible was fantastic!

      • anon says:

What’s weird about Hermes story is that, this was reported by a couple of Russian women who spotted BC at the Crucible with a different brunette Viki. They saw him ‘hug and kiss RA and the rest of the cast’. Afterwards they took a cab. I can’t remember the exact details but it was on nanny tumblr. Are you sure this didn’t happened in May? The night before Hay he was spotted in theatre arguing with a brunette. Everyone thought it was Dakota!
So perhaps Benedict was two timing :-) I wouldn’t be surprise. BC is also naturally affectionate to all friends so I wouldn’t be surprise if he was trying to be affectionate with SH. That seems to be his MO, just check out the pic with blond NT girl, he looked like he was trying to get close to her but she was having none of it!

      • hermi says:

        I am 100% sure. :)
I was there with a friend, we had just been to see the Crucible on 15th July. We came out, went to the stage door and nearly crashed into BC who was coming out a side door with a girl who DEFINITELY was SH. He went to say hello to RA on his own, then we lost sight of them (maybe that’s when he was photographed with other people??) Later (10-15 mins) we were outside the Old Vic front door and there he was with SH talking. No one was with them. We walked to the tube, they walked ahead of us. We took the tube and they stopped at the entrance, talking. I figured she was catching a train and he was waiting for her to go, otherwise what’s the point of stopping at a crowded tube station entrance?

      • Claire. says:

Thanks for that anon. Sorry Hermi for anon’s reasons I seem to doubt your narrative. Also as awful as her fashion style is, I doubt she’d wear pj’s to the crucible. Also, you seem to be intimately familiar with BC’s love life and how we speak of this couple here but you’re telling us this now and like you were disinterested when this happened in july?

      • hermi says:

@claire I have just come across this website now. and read the thread because people here seem lovely and very funny :)
I do not know anything about BC’s love life, except we had a slice of it in front of us on that particular night.
Pjs was ironical, they were large palazzo pants with flowers on them, but they looked like Pjs.
You are very welcome to disbelieve me, but that’s the truth of it. I apologise if I have offended anyone, I only wanted to add my piece of the puzzle (which is still a puzzle to me, since they both looked so downcast).

      • anon says:

To be honest I totally confused now. It seems the more we know about this weird clusterf**k the more we seem to be farther from the truth. I am inclined to believe Hermi’s story simply because someone made a comment about the same thing in the Guardian when the enGAGment news broke out. Seeing BCSH outside theatre in July looking miserable. Or are you that same person Hermi? Since you say you and your friends were the only ones to see them. Perhaps BC did take both women to see the Crucible but individually and on different days?! He is a perfectionist so a mock date before the actual date! Now the question is who is the real gf and who is the mock gf???? :-)

      • hermi says:

No, I only wrote it here. Well, no one noticed as far as I know. We were in a queue at a stage door after all, No one stopped to take pictures, no one turned to look at them and no one approached them, but he may have been spotted when we lost sight of them. I had RA on the mind that night :)

      • gg says:

On July 15th, how many people even knew what the hell Sophie Hunter even looked like?
And the Guardian comment, made on Nov 5, referred to “a few weeks ago,” not July. Could have been the NT outing to see Ballyturk which was in October

      • hermi says:

I did not know then what she was called obviously :) But she’s quite memorable because 1) she’s rather tall 2) she’s a terrible dresser with a penchant for flowers 3) I saw her up close since, as I mentioned, we nearly crashed into them as they came out of a side door and we were running to the stage door.

As I said, people are free to disbelieve what I say, I won’t be offended. But there they were and all I heard was her saying she didn’t want to go say hello to RA and he asked her “are you sure?” a few times, then off he went. She left and went I don’t know where. Then I suppose they met up later (15 mins) by the front door of the Old Vic, where we saw them again. God I sound like a character in Sherlock or Miss Marple :)

    • Toodles45 says:

Wow, @hermi. So he was trying to be affectionate and she wouldn’t have it? Devotion indeed.

      • hermi says:

Which is why I think he may be in love, but I don’t think she really is. I’ve never seen a woman “madly in love” (as the PR say she is) behave so coldly. Look at all the other couples on the red carpet, they look happy. They don’t.

      • Felice says:

Or he’s trying to at least bring in a connection if they are “working together”

      • **sighs** says:

Felice- knowing that they need to make it look believable…..he’s an actor who does his research. Apparently she is not. ;)

      • hermi says:

My two cents: I think he really looked like he was into her (when we saw them no one was looking, which really surprised me, by the way), but she wasn’t really that into him. If it wasn’t for him trying to put an arm around her shoulder, I would have said they were just friends. But as I said, the thing that struck me the most is how subdued and serious he looked. He usually looks so happy.

      • Claire. says:

This is one of the few consistent and bizarre things from this: she is colder and they are more awkward toward one another when no one is watching than when people are. Does anyone have any ideas about this? She clearly wasn’t knocked up back then. Also Hermi, why did the arm reach make you think he was “really” into her? Can you describe it in further detail?

      • hermi says:

@claire As I said, only my two cents: he was very intently listening to her and had the posture of someone wanting to get closer, while she had none of the “tells” of intimacy or flirting: she wasn’t trying to touch him or get closer while he talked. Maybe she’s just cold. In which case, poor him. :)

      • Kat says:

He doesn’t look or act like man in love at all. No glances, no warmth. Nothing.
I think an attempted arm on the shoulder may have been…keeping up appearances? Public place an’ all.
        He can act and she….well….y’know..can’t.

        ..explains a lot.

      • hermi says:

No one was watching except us and to me he looked like he wanted her closer. But since then, things may well have changed. There’s only so much coldness and stroppy-ness (public or private) a man can take :)

      • Kat says:

Still a public and populated place though. He’s well aware of social media and people ‘spotting’ him.
He’s an affectionate guy too. I think an arm on the shoulder is pretty standard and easy for him. I think it’s just too much of a stress on her limited acting skill.

      • anon says:

I dunno about BC being in love….but he seemed very happy since the beginning of 2014 – in pictures even just fan ones, he seemed to be almost glowing like a teenager who just got himself a gf for the first time, but mind you he was spotted with several women the first half of the year. I guess that’s why it was so shocking to see him after Nov 5. Although there were signs of pissybatch prior to that, I assumed it was just stress.

      • Kat says:

        @anon

Exactly. He looked happy right until SH appeared on the scene. She didn’t show up until may and slowly things started to get weird. He looked dee behind the eyes since about september.

    • Claire. says:

Wow. Just wow. Still somethings not right. He’s not dumb. He wouldn’t screw or propose to a woman with such a cold attitude. Only thing that would make sense is if she was some hired date and she found it wasn’t what it was cracked up to be. Otherwise this is just weirder. Plus he was seen with two other women after that. Wtf Ben

      • **sighs** says:

I am telling you: hired red carpet girlfriend. He thinks she’s ok and is trying to get in her pants. She really doesn’t want to, but sees it as an opportunity, acquiesces, and oops! Baby!
Why on earth would a woman who, when very early on in the dating is often described as cold, aloof, uninterested, now that she’s pregnant is suddenly the smug little Cheshire Cat?
I think he realizes he got played. (This does not excuse his lack of protection for himself – he’s still a massive idiot).
I hope his mother is having a last minute “don’t do it” talk with him.

      • Ree says:

How is she ok?? The description by hermi does not sound OK. does it sighs??

      • **sighs** says:

Ree: ok as in ok enough to *uck. Not true love 4evah.

    • Claire. says:

You told us you know nothing of his love life yet you keep saying things like “When you saw pictures of him with Olivia Poulet back in the day” and you talk just like us who have been posting here for months like you intimately know how we think. You have a game, I just can’t figure out what it is.

  65. WMarie says:

Ok, wait a min, back to the sighting at the Crucible…I thought that was Vicki with him. It seems like there were pics of the two of them. I’m sure one of the truthers blog has the pic in their archive or whatever.

  66. GeeGee says:

I noticed today that Sophie was wearing an ‘old scarf’ of BC, the one he’s wearing in a 2011 pic. (With the grey long coat, grey wrap sweater and a hat) Sophie was wearing the scarf in the most recent Heathrow pics, when she wore the electric blue coat and silver high tops) I also sent Sophie Hunter Gossip Blog an ask about it, but apparently it didn’t fit in the narrative. *Shrugs*

But someone spewing nonsense about Sophie giving it up and other ‘high class girls’ not being sexual enough DOES show up. Oh dear, it may have been called a ‘balanced’ blog, but someone’s showing their behind…Being critical is cool, but let’s call a spade just a spade. Nonsense and drivel is just that, nonsense and drivel. Nanny or non-nanny, BC lover or BC hater.

  67. Cri says:

And apparently he’s still thrifty! :)

    • Claire. says:

Didn’t someone say the tumblrites dissected that matter and saw it wasn’t the same scarf?

    • Alice says:

Why is an almost identical(pro-Sophie)post appearing under two different names?

PS. I doubt his scarf was a unique, one of a kind.

      • Cri says:

@Alice, I’m not pro-Sophie whatsoever, neither was that comment. It was merely an observation. And I thought my post didn’t go trough, and because I don’t have a regular username here, I chose another name for the 2nd comment. So please don’t get all suspicious without a real reason. I’m no nanny, nor am I from IMDB or get paid for this. And it’s def. the same scarf. Why feel the need to deny it? I’m not a fan of The Huntress, but a scarf is a scarf. It’s no big deal, she’s pregnant of his child and they live together and she raided his closet or his suitcase. I’m in the camp ‘he made a weird choice, there’s not much love there’, but I don’t feel the need to deny them sharing an item of clothing frankly. I just find grasping at straws a bit tiresome.

      • Claire. says:

Alice I’ve seen both of them post before. I guess we know they’re one and the same now! I guess they made a mistake and wanted to be known by one and not the other. Was geegee always a starry eyed worshipper? Can’t remember.

I wonder who this person is. FWIW: Cri is a French word and GeeGee (rather, GiGi) is a film about a parisian woman groomed to be a high society courtesan.

        COUGH.

      • Oops! says:

I find it so weird when people who are “pro Sophie” leave comments on these kinds of articles claiming that they don’t know her and really aren’t fans of BC, but…. Fill in all kinds of positive blanks about how wonderful Sophie is, wonderful the relationship is, normal everything is, etc.

I guess they don’t want to get flamed by hard core anti-Sophie people, but why not just honestly own your position like everyone else does? Weird.

I’m not a fan of Sophie, but I don’t “hate” her. I just think she looks ridiculous and BC looks ridiculous for how all this is playing out. It was all handled messily – especially if they had found some magical way to date long term before the engagement.

FWIW, IMO, those tumblr people were wrong and it is the same scarf. Yes, some females occasionally wear a piece of clothing that belongs to their men. But I think it’s more a girl thing to do than a grown woman thing. Whatever, let them do them. I do think it’s a real relationship that BC was initially down for. And he may still be into it. But it’s turned into a hot mess. She may be wonderful, but she’s coming off like a snooty starf*cker with delusions of grandeur. And it looks like Benedict “bit of a dickhead, but still a nice guy” Cumberbatch is just straight up dickhead now. People change.

Shame. I still love his talent though and he can still be sexy. The effect kind of goes away when he opens his mouth now. But, you know.

      • future says:

Again: it is NOT the same scarf.

      • moodgirl says:

@Cri – You don’t think that assuming they live together and she raided his closet or suitcase grasping at straws?

If it is the same scarf or a look alike, you best believe that Sophie is wearing it for the purpose of yanking a few chains. She is a great manipulator of not only Benedict but anyone who may be watching. Remember the PSFF show and how much she enjoyed putting on that performance.

    • gg says:

Yeah the same person claims to have sent SoGo two asks about it but only one got through….me thinks the lady Doth Protest Too Much

  68. ANON says:

All the women who are independent, throw your hands up at me!

Hehem, Sophie, put your hands down…

  69. Felice says:

Well judging from the setlock pics, he seems to be in a better mood than how he was. Who knows what’s going on I’m just glad he seems slightly better.

  70. Sunflower says:

Can we have a new comment section please? I think this one is broken.

Article in the Sun about Benedict’s bodyguard, unfortunately requires a subscription. I can’t help but think they’re still trying to ply the ‘crazy fans’ narrative. If I had a tinfoil hat, I’d probably have some theories about that…

  71. Chantal says:

I hope you guys realized that @hermi is pulling your legs by being a little passive aggressive. No one knows what is going in this couple’s life and we will never know why they choose each other. Whatever their reasons it is for them to be happy or fall on their own swords.

  72. arhodo says:

    I’m over him!

  73. Zuzu says:

Why has everyone decided that Sophie was having a “tantrum” on the red carpet of the Evening Standard awards?

I looked at the GIF everyone seems to be referring to? The GIF is less than two seconds long with no audio.

She’s walking off the red carpet quickly yes. But how can anyone talk about “tantrum” like it’s a fact?

She’s pregnant! How do you know she wasn’t having a bathroom emergency and suddenly needed to pee? Or VOMIT??

I am not a fan of hers but I am wondering if there is more info that has people convinced this was a “tantrum.”

    • moodgirl says:

How could you look at that short video from ESA and not see the reactions from Benedict and Karon, his PR? Also, take a look at the smug smirk she has on her face while walking away. Go back to IMDB please.

      • Zuzu says:

Everyone was talking about a short video. I thought I was going to see 30 seconds or 15 seconds or even 5 seconds of her stomping her feet and rolling around on the floor.

Instead it’s literally a second and a half, a flash, of her walking fast.

I saw the reaction from BC and Karon. BC looked concerned. Karon followed her with her arm extended.

If Sophie was running off to vomit or because she suddenly felt like she was about to wet her pants, how would the reactions of BC and Karon be different?

      • Claire. says:

But moodgirl, wouldn’t you have a smug smirk on your face if you had to go vomit or pee yourself? ;)

      • Zuzu says:

If you were in her position, with cameras on you, and you knew every last frame of film would be GIF’d and analyzed on the internet, and you had to quickly exit the red carpet for ANY reason, wouldn’t you try to keep some sort of dignified facial expression?

      • Maggie says:

Common sense and a bit of empathy doesn’t work around here Zuzu.

You are quite right, that one and a half second, slowed down gif, tells us nothing except that Sophie is walking away and any other explanation is pure guesswork or simply fantasy.

      • Claire. says:

There was nothing dignified in her expression and actions. even classless people would know better

    • Kat says:

      Zuzu,

I’ve seen some excuses for bad behaviour in my time but this one really takes the biscuit.
She very clearly is NOT walking off because she’s anxious or about to wet herself. She very obviously breezily and calmly puts her hands in her pockets and strides off. Worst of all she utters something directed at Karon without even bothering to attempt to turn around or address her directly. A very, very clear confirmation that she was indeed throwing a tantrum or at least being really very unpleasantly rude.
And karon was very clearly tying to reason with her.

Maggie, I know you equate common sense with worshipping him, but surely you realise you are being very silly here?

      • moodgirl says:

A poster on SoGo says she has watched the video a dozen times and feels that Sophie appears to say “Oh, shut up” to Karon. I agree.

      • Zuzu says:

If I suddenly had to leave the red carpet for ANY reason, I would do it as easily and breezily as I possibly could. Wouldn’t you? Would you allow a look of horror to come over your face, clutch yourself and stagger away? I don’t believe that, based on what ordinary people do every day in all kinds of situations. People try to play it cool and keep things hidden as much as they can.

  74. Sunflower says:

Meh -I’ll take hermi’s “trolling” over those Sophie sycophants any day.
