Amanda Bynes threatens to kill her father, then claims she was just kidding

I haven’t written about Amanda Bynes in more than a week, mostly because I was waiting for Amanda to bottom out and get forcibly put into another psychiatric facility after her parents had enough and handed over her treatment to professionals. There was some confusion on the last post as to my headline about Amanda’s parents “giving up” on her. Let me be clear: I have no doubt that Amanda’s parents are at their wit’s end dealing with her. They are exhausted, mentally, emotionally and physically. I don’t judge them for handing off Amanda’s care to the state of California, especially considering Amanda spends a lot of time lashing out at her parents. Specifically, her father. She’s repeatedly accused her dad of abusing her and in an audio clip that TMZ got their hands on, Amanda threatens to kill her father. Go here to listen to the audio.

Amanda Bynes’s troubling, erratic behavior continues. On Friday night, TMZ posted what it claims is an audio recording of the former child star in which she threatened to kill her parents.

“If your father was my father … then you would understand why you’d want to slit his wrists … I haven’t decided how I want to murder him … I don’t believe in murder … He literally like is the worst person … Nothing would give me greater pleasure than like slitting his throat. That is what I would love to do,” Bynes, 28, reportedly said in the audio file, which TMZ says was taped last week by a roommate.

“So like I’m not gonna like ever do such a thing, but like I call my mom and like I threaten to kill her, and I threaten to slit her wrist, and I threaten to like burn down her house and like I said a bunch of s— like that,” the voice continued.

And the audio file matched much of Bynes’s recent Tweets complaining that her parents have cut her off financially – allegations a source close to the situation says are false.

“I’m gonna continue telling you guys I’m gonna murder my family like ’cause that’s the thing that like, they’re in control of my money, and that’s why I don’t have much money right now,” Bynes says on the recording.

On Saturday evening, Bynes took to Twitter claiming her comments were made “in jest.”

“I was obviously joking about hurting my family – I straight up don’t believe in harming a soul,” she wrote. “I said what I said in jest and if you don’t understand that then know I’m in therapy to talk about my dad issues and that will solve my concerns with [people] invading my private life … take what I say lightly because I am the nicest girl.”

The alleged tape of Bynes is just the latest in a string of reports of worrisome behavior.

Despite the actress’s recent antics, West Hollywood nightclub 1OAK let her and a friend in Thursday night.

“She arrived around midnight with her friend, artist JJ Brine, who had purple hair and was wearing a flower crown. She had blue hair and was wearing a T-shirt, bandage dress and platforms,” a source tells PEOPLE. “She wore sunglasses in the club and had a Band-Aid on her face. They stayed for about two hours, then left in an Uber X.”

And Tuesday night, TMZ reported that Bynes hit up West Hollywood tattoo parlor The Honorable Society, trying to get a tattoo of her apparent boyfriend Caleb but was turned away for having no identification. While the shop wouldn’t confirm Bynes’s visit, an employee tells PEOPLE, “We need a copy of every person’s ID who gets tattooed here, so if they don’t have an ID or a passport or some kind of official government-issued identification, you know we can’t legally tattoo them.”

You can see more of Amanda’s tweets here. Considering she once almost lit her dog on fire, I tend to think we should take her threats of violence for real. And I think her parents should take this as just another reason why it was a good idea to hand off her care to other people. Oh, and as for her trip to 1Oak, Page Six says that she actually got into it with Paris Hilton & Brandon Davis.

Also: don’t believe Amanda when she tells TMZ that she’s broke and living on gift certificates or whatever. Her parents got her an apartment in Glendale but she doesn’t stay there because she would rather be in West Hollywood. So she stays with “friends” – like her hair stylist who is now asking Amanda’s parents to pay for damages caused by Amanda.

This is just awful. She needs HELP, and I’m having a really hard time understanding why she isn’t doing inpatient therapy right now. I don’t want anyone to get hurt, or for her to hurt herself, but I am afraid of what might happen if she continues down the path she’s on. I feel so sorry for her and her family.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I do, too. I think she’s obviously a danger to herself and others. Poor girl. And I feel so horrible for her family, too.

    • original kay says:

I wonder if the hospital that released her is responsible if she does harm anyone?

this poor girl, I feel for her and her family.

      • Alex says:

They aren’t because if she was lucid at the time of release they had to let her go. That’s why hospitals and jails can be a revolving door for people who are mentally ill. They get locked up, take their meds, get lucid and go right back off them when they get out. It’s a neverending cycle.

  2. Dany says:

It´s horrible… just horrible. I hope she gets help soon…. otherwise it won´t end well :(

  3. swack says:

I said on a different site that the tabloids need to leave her alone. And why would the hair stylist ask her parents for the money for damages. They are not responsible for her behavior nor do they control her money any more,

    • mimif says:

Yeah, I’ve been writing the same thing. This isn’t a haha look at you Blohan situation (which also grosses me out), this is a straight up girl needs psych help immediately situation.

    • whatsmyname? says:

I agree they should leave her alone. This isn’t someone just getting drunk/high and messing around she needs serious help.

    • starrywonder says:

I call BS on that hair stylist. You knew she has mental problems and you willingly let her stay with you. It’s not on her parents to pay your dumb self for letting her stay there and I bet she was hoping for a pay day just like this. Where the hell is her lawyer at with his she’s taking her meds self

  4. Jayna says:

So sad. I hope enough of her behavior is exposed so that the courts finally deem her mentally unstable and a danger to herself or others so that her parents can finally get conservatorship over her, even though she’s an adult.

  5. Seapharris7 says:

I still hope whoever released her gets fired.

  6. Kitten says:

Not to ignore the sad reality of her situation but on a superficial note, I really like her violet hair color. If I wasn’t an unfortunate slave to corporate American business attire, I would definitely dye my hair a fun color.

    • Erinn says:

I do too, Kitten. I’d kind of love it on the very bottom bit of my hair, so upon first glance I still look like a fancy lady. I want a fun color again. I had ‘dip dyed’ the bottom of my hair a bright red a couple of years ago, and it looked really cool. The upkeep can be a pain though, so I think for now, I’m going to just focus on getting back to my ‘natural’ color.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

My cousin, an amazing woman in her 70′s, has pink tips on her gray hair, it suits her, like exotic plumage on a tropical bird. I love fun hair colors and I’m glad they’ve become more main stream and acceptable. Someday soon you’ll be able to have purple hair in the corporate workplace.

  7. Jag says:

So with these latest threats against her father and mother, why has the idiot who said that she was safe to release not filed to rescind the order? Why is she not in another 5150 because she’s threatening to harm other people?

Her parents need to get a restraining order against her. And they need to get her an apartment where she wants to live, considering it’s her money and they don’t get to choose everything.

  8. Lahdidahbaby says:

I continue to wonder what the bandage on her face is covering – it’s been there for weeks now, and in some of the pics you could see how red and infected it was. If it’s some sort of MRSA infection it could end her life if it goes untreated, especially anywhere on a person’s face, so close to the brain and the eyes, etc.

    • Belle Epoch says:

LAHDEDAH that is very disturbing. You can’t fool around with facial infections. If she goes to an ER, could they put an involuntary hold on her? Somebody get her to a doctor – and not a plastic surgeon!

  9. Shelley says:

Absolutely a credible threat – and she should be considered very dangerous. Her poor parents.

  10. Ashley says:

If you are suicidal or homicidal, you need help in treatment. She needs help. She needs intensive inpatient and then outpatient set in place and to be on her meds.
It’s sad to see her failing.

  11. kri says:

If someone doesn’t do something fast, she will either harm someone or kill herself-maybe both. This is one of the most frightening things I have ever seen. How that hearing officer let her out, I will never understand. She keeps threatening to “slit their wrists” which is a really strange way to murder someone. I think her reality is so fractured, she no longer differentiates between self-harm and hurting others. It is all the same to her now. Please someone do something.

  12. Domino says:

She almost lit her dog on fire? WTF!! I hope she drops dead soon.

    • Bread and Circuses says:

Not kind. She is mentally ill and didn’t understand her actions (she accidentally lit the dog on fire while trying to light herself on fire — and then tried to put out the dog. So she did emotionally care for the animal; she’s just incapable of physically caring for it, or herself.)

And please don’t wish death on her. It’s a real possibility. She’s incredibly ill.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

I feel a great deal of sympathy for her but she cannot be trusted with a pet and somebody should have known that and stepped in to protect her and the dog. Her issues did not come out of the blue, who trusted her with a dog in the first place? It’s sad, I wish someone would help her but, even if she were my own sister, it would be difficult to know what to do or how to handle her. She’s threatening to murder family members, that is some scary stuff.

      • Aerincraig says:

Many individuals with mental illness cherish their pets. In some instances they literally live for their pets.

  13. Bob Loblaw says:

I hope Amanda gets the help she needs. I have watched all too many true crime stories and I have learned that most murder victims are killed by someone close to them, not a stranger, and that most murderers threaten to kill people before they actually go through with killing them. This is a serious situation for Amanda and her family, it is horrific that it’s just fodder for tabloids, our society needs to do more to address mental health issues. We all understand cancer and heart disease, we need to understand mental illness as well, and offer compassion and aid to the afflicted and their caregivers.

  14. Lauraq says:

Honestly…my brother molested me when I was little, and abused me in other ways until I turned 19 and got the hell out of dodge, and I would be lying if I said I never wondered what it would have been like to do something terrible to him. I even told my mother (she’s aware of what happened but says it’s because of his APD and that I should defend him) that we all would be better off if someone killed him. That said, I don’t believe I could ever do it… in cold blood. If he ever tries to come after me now, though, I think I will at least put him in the hospital. He will never hurt me again.
