Eva Green in green Elie Saab at the ‘Sin City’ premiere: fierce or fug?

Here are some photos from last night’s LA premiere of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. I believe Eva Green is the dame in question. The premiere got a good turnout and it does seem like some people are very excited that this sequel finally got off the ground. But the red carpet wasn’t all that special. Eva Green didn’t even bring the major fashion drama! Eva wore this totally boring 2013 Elie Saab gown which looks like every other Elie Saab gown ever worn. I’m saying that as someone who genuinely thinks the Elie Saab designs are pretty, but I was hoping for something else from Eva.

Next up: Jessica Alba in Zac Posen Resort 2015. I usually think Posen’s dresses and gowns are tragically overworked and that he could use some editing. But I love this. I love the color, I love the fit and I love the butt ruffle. The butt ruffle makes it, if I’m being honest.

Jamie King wore a high bun and this Versace Resort 2015 gown. I’m kind of meh on it. It doesn’t look bad and she styled it well, but I’m not in love with it.

Rosario Dawson in ?? . I don’t have the ID but I’m sure we’ve seen this dress before. Blah. It’s pretty bad.

Jamie Chung in Pamella Roland Fall 2014. This is my least favorite look of the whole carpet. It’s too heavy, too pageanty.

And just for fun, here’s genuine heartthrob Demian Bichir (HOT) and Mickey Rourke with a wiglet from the John Travolta Collection.

I love Eva Green, she’s so delightfully odd.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

I never had a feeling about her either way, but after seeing her in “Penny Dreadful,” I think she is an incredibly talented actress.

She deserves an award for her performance of that exorcism scene alone. It would have easy for that acting to have become almost campy, but her performance made your heart break for her character, Ms. Ives.

      • Mingy says:

That scene! I was left speechless for a long time afterwards..performance of the year! She’s a goddess to me now.

      • Scarlet Vixen says:

She is amazeballs in Penny Dreadful. In every single scene she’s in I cannot take my eyes off her. Her face is SO expressive. It could so easily go into ‘camp’ but I’m really impressed with how subtle she can be and how believable she can make scenes that could easily be ridiculous.

      • Kelly says:

Yes! This so much! I have a massive girl crush on her, but that exorcism scene was just riveting!

      • Bucky says:

Really? I think her acting in Penny Dreadful is TERRIBLE. It is laughably over the top. She makes it unwatchable for me.

      • starr says:

ALL THE EMMYS for Eva on Penny Dreadful. She’s had nothing but amazing praise from the critics for that role.

Generally, I love her unique style and she usually has killer jewellery. As for this dress, the color is fantastic on her and her hair is bang-on. I think she looks amazing.

Alba’s dress, on the other hand, is a bit too bright for her skin tone and the material looks cheap to me. It’s like the dress is wearing her, not the other way around.

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

To each their own Bucky, but you seem to be in the minority on this one.

I thought she did an excellent job and she deserves an award. Acting possessed has to be one the hardest things to do on film. Again, I laud her performance . I am sure that had to have taken an emotional toll her.

      • starr says:

Fantastic interview with Eva where she talks about the filming of her epic ‘Possessed’ episode in Penny Dreadful [near end of article].

“The last time I got bruises from acting was on Penny Dreadful. There’s an episode where my character is possessed, and I’m thrashing about and getting really banged up. I was totally covered in bruises after that. Like, everywhere. … That one episode of TV was so much more physical and violent and bruise-inducing than 300 or anything else.”

    • jammypants says:

I love how casual cool she is.

  2. TheOriginalKitten says:

I HATE Eva’s dress but I like the color and I think she’s such a beautiful woman.

I love Rosario Dawson but that unflattering dress is detracting from her gorgeousness.

    Jamie King is looking rough.

    • Bridget says:

Jamie has looked ‘off’ for a little while, I hope she’s okay. It sounds like her body has gone through a lot.

  3. in_theory says:

Rosario Dawson’s dress… what is that, fake leather or latex lingerie?

  4. GlimmerBunny says:

I think she looks gorgeous, but I saw the movie today (it was entertaining, cool, stylized and dumb just like the first one) and her voice/acting annoyed me so much! She’s not a very good actress, is she?

    • Zee says:

Eva seems like a much better actress in her native French…sort of like Penelope Cruz and Spanish imo

    • Lorelei says:

Have you watched Penny Dreadful? She’s really really good in it.

    • Josefa says:

Her acting is very… theatrical, at times. I like her, but I can see why some find her a bad actress.

I wouldn’t compare her to Penélope because I feel she has trouble in English films mostly because of her very thick spanish accent. I think Eva can fool people in that sense. Well, at least she fools me on Penny Dreadful as a non-Brit. But I’d agree they are both better when speaking their native tongues.

    • Isadora says:

I loved her acting in Bertolucci’s “The Dreamers”!

  5. bns says:

What is on Mickey Rourke’s head?

  6. Loopy says:

Anyone know why it actually took 10 years for a sequel, that must be a record!

    • Bridget says:

A couple of reasons. For one, Rodriguez got bogged down in the Rose McGowan years – for a while he really wanted to make that Barbarella remake starring her, and he got bogged down with some other projects in the interim. For another, it has a huge cast and it was probably hard to get all of those moving parts coordinated again, including finding their perfect “Dame”. Initially they really wanted Angelina Jolie for the part (though considering the blatantly misogynist tones of the first movie that may have been a pretty ridiculous overreach) and then for a while they pursued Rachel Weisz. Its the kind of part they needed a big star for.

  7. BengalCat2000 says:

Eva Green is my ultimate girl crush. I could stare at that face all day long.

  8. Zee says:

Eva is so striking…I actually think Jessica’s dress looks cheap

  9. Kiddo says:

    HAHA, the John Travolta Collection.

  10. Calcifer says:

Now THIS is a woman who would have made Johnny Depp look good, instead of the generic Amber Heard. Eva Green is a true, very distinctive looking beauty, mysterious and girlish at the same time.

    • Bridget says:

It’s funny how we can see the same photos and movies and come to such different conclusions about celebrities, go figure! I’ve always found Eva Green to be one-note vamp.To each their own :)

      • Dido says:

        Jealous much??

      • Amelia says:

People can have differences of opinions without jealousy being the source.
I happen to think Eva’s face must have been carved by some sort of beauty angel and I love her style, but Bridget doesn’t. C’est la vie.

      • Bridget says:

Because clearly, the only reason to not like a celebrity is jealousy.

    • Calcifer says:

Just wondering – as I am a European myself – and no snark intended: Are Eva Green’s looks too European, too unusual, for North-American tastes?

      • Bridget says:

I would guess that it’s not that she’s too European looking so much as 1) her English language movies haven’t really taken off, and 2) her acting is very, very broad. Which is why I’m actually a little surprised that she was cast as the titular “dame to kill for” since Ava Lorde is actually supposed to be very angelic and innocent in appearance, which is part of how she’s so manipulative.

      • Calcifer says:

@ Bridget Thanks, interesting to hear your perspective

      • Josefa says:

I think it’s what Bridget says. I’d say Helena Bonham Carter is a lot more unusual and quirky looking than Eva, but she’s far more popular because she’s been in several commercially succesful films.

I think Eva is very classically beautiful, actually. It’s the mix of pitch black hair and porcelain white skin that makes her look like a Tim Burton character. With a little tan and a lighter hair color, she’d be a more average beauty. Well, she’d still be stunning, but you get my point.

    • starr says:

Eva’s too smart for Depp. She would have seen right through his massive midlife crisis in the making when they worked together in Dark Shadows.

  11. Lara K says:

Eva green is stunning but the makeup and hair here make her look like Cruella D’Evil. Not good.

  12. Jade says:

Mickey Rourke never disappoints. What a look — and he always does the entire package, including accessories and hair. I would ask if he has a mirror, but something tells me he has one for every angle and enjoys looking at himself.

    • Chris says:

Picture the scene in Valentino’s basement…..the bubbling vat of primo-self tan gets yet more Bisto powder chucked into the mix.

    • phydeaux says:

His entire package is actually revealed in that photo. Ugh.

  13. Mia4S says:

I love Eva Green, I can’t help it. She seems to have a great sense of humour and was awesome in Casino Royale.

So I guess Alba found this role emotionally and artistically fulfilling enough to be away from her kids? That’s why she never works right? ;-)

Oh Mickey, what can I say? Just…no. He looks better than he has though.

  14. SpookySpooks says:

Am I the only one who doesn’t find Eva beautiful? She’s odd, but not in an interesting way.
Jaime King is beautiful, and she looks the best. The other ladies are meh.
    Mickey Rourke is fascinating.

    • me too says:

I for some reason find her UGLY,she could look good but she has sunken cheeks, and dead eyes also her body is not great..I am actually confused why people find her beautiful, she is unusual but i would call that odd.

  15. Josefa says:

Such a gorgeous bunch of women, such bad fashion.

I love Eva Green to high heavens but the dress is bland (a word I’d NEVER use on Eva normally), and unflattering.
I’d say Jessica’s dress is the best of the worst, it looks super cheap but it flatters her figure. She looks stunning in an everyday, all-american slightly tacky way, which is her schitck. Eh. I guess I approve.
The rest all look bad. Why, Rosario, why! You’re such a gorgeous woman!

  16. Miffy says:

Albas arse ruffle looks like a mid toot freeze frame. Not the most high brow thing I’ve said today but it had to be said.

Eva Green, I’m too in love to be unbiased. She could wear a shower curtain and id ponder who it was by

  17. alex_r says:

Eva is my ultimate girl crush too. And her work in Penny Dreadful? She deserves all the awards. Can’t wait for the second season. And she looks good in anything.

    • starr says:

ALL THE EMMYS for EVA! Seriously, she is killing it in Penny Dreadful. I’m so glad it was renewed for an even longer second season.

  18. BALLS says:

Demian Birchir (with his impossibly sexay voice) looks delectable. Eva Green outshines her dress.

    • Maria says:

I love Damien, especially on The Bridge.

Rosie always dresses so wrong but she is gorgeous, the dress does her no favors, at all.

      • BALLS says:

I discovered him on The Bridge–can’t wait for tonight’s episode.
True about Rosie–what was she thinking before she left the house: Why, yes, this amazing leather and lace ensemble showcases my amazing figure?! When in fact the pleather look squashes her boobs, accentuates her tummy, and the length does nothing for her legs.

  19. Andrea says:

What a bod Eva Green has. Wow. Jessica Alba looks amazing, love that color on her. And I need her shoes!

  20. JH says:

Eva Green is a goddess. She is perfection always and forever.

  21. kri says:

Eva is lovely, butthis look is..off. Harsh make-up. Not great gown. Meh. Everyone else looks like shite except Bichir.

  22. Ginger says:

Best Bond girl ever IMO! She is so beautiful and sexy. Love that playful expression as she’s walking away. I’m sure the photographers ate that up! As for her look…well, the color is good but I’m not a huge fan of the gown. It looks honesly like something for an older woman. But the peekaboo lace is cute. Love, love, love Jessica’s dress. It is perfect for her. I think Jamie’s styling is sleek and cool. Not a fan of Rosario’s dress as it seems ill fitting. And Jamie Chung would have looked ten times better in a short gown.

  23. H2O says:

Eva’s dress fierce or fug? To quote Blake Griffin, yeah “it’s hard to tell.”

  24. G says:

Yeah compared to the other woman on the carpet I’m missing the “hottness” in this one. Sorry I like her acting but she isn’t that gorgeous.

  25. melain says:

All of these dresses look like Frederick’s of Hollywood. Fug.

  26. Innie Outie says:

She can wear a potato sack and will still look fierce to me. She’s the closest to a lady crush I’ve ever had :D Crossing my fingers for more interesting and serious roles for her in future because she has got bucketfuls of talent, charisma and presence.

  27. kitty-bye says:

    Intoxicating enigma

  28. Lacey says:

This is why studios should pay for stylists, hair, and makeup for the red carpet. I don’t think these photos will get picked up much. The actresses look random, like they’re attending different events. It’s too bad, because they’re beautiful. I remember how stunning Emma Watson and Jennifer Connelly looked at the Noah premieres. And Emma Stone for Spiderman. I swooned.

  29. serena says:

I would save just Jamie King’s look from the whole bunch, since they all kinda sucks, though I don’t like her make up and hairstyle but her dress is fabulous!
Alba usually brings it but I’m not feeling this outfit at all, it’s so boring.

  30. Selina Sui says:

Eva Green would have been an incredible catwoman, not that AnnE didn’t rise to the occasion.

I love Eva’s alabaster strikingly haunting and beautiful look so much. She seems to be hiding a bump or bit of weight gain in that dress. And it’s swallowing her.

  31. BadAssCompass says:

Eva is my girl crush since Penny Dreadful. Love her and that show to pieces, everyone is doing such a great job at something that could have easily slipped into campy waters, yes, and she WILL get all the awards next year, because in few episodes she gives almost oscar worthy performance (exorcism being number 1). Now that we’ve established that, her dress is what you would expect from kooky dark lady, love the color, hate the cut.
ALba is wearing somehting Eva Longoria would wear to some B-event.
Rosario is one of those beautiful ladies that consistently manages to crap it up with ill fitting wardrobe and dated style.
