Sherri Shepherd & Jenny McCarthy were just pushed off ‘The View’: shocking?

If you’re a woman and you’re employed by ABC, you probably want to watch your ass because you’re about to get pink-slipped. Just this year, Barbara Walters, Katie Couric and Cynthia McFadden have all quit, retired or been asked to leave. Just this week, Diane Sawyer announced that she’s quitting the ABC World News anchor desk and she’s being replaced by a man. It’s tough to be a woman at ABC, I guess. And now this news about another ABC property – while this isn’t on the scale of, say, Diane Sawyer, it’s still interesting. Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd are quitting/being pushed out of The View. Granted, there have been rumors for a while that Jenny was going to be pushed out, but I guess Sherri is getting fired too.

And they’re out! Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy are leaving ABC’s The View, the network revealed in a statement to Us Weekly on June 26.

“The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively,” ABC said in the statement. McCarthy and Shepherd’s departures leave Whoopi Goldberg as the sole remaining cast member.

“It’s been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on,” Shepherd said in a personal statement to Deadline. “I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and Bill Gedde for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.”

“In Sherri’s case, there were negotiations but they were unable to reach an agreement,” a source tells Us of the longtime co-host’s reason for exiting.

As for McCarthy, who only served as co-host for one season, the source says ,”Jenny’s departure was the result of a decision to move the show in a different direction creatively.”

The June 27th episode of the show was pre-taped and The View is then set to be on hiatus next week. Despite announcing their exits, the source adds it’s “likely we’ll see more of” McCarthy and Shepherd though the remainder of the season.

Barbara Walter’s talk show has seen its fair share of co-hosts. Everyone from Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos, Joy Behar, Lisa Ling, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie O’Donnell have taken on the role. Walters retired herself from the position just last month.
More updates to come.

[From Us Weekly]

Ah, I understand. Jenny McCarthy was being roundly (and justifiably) criticized because the worm has turned on her anti-vaccine movement. As for Sherri, she wanted more money and ABC said no. So… Whoopi is the last woman standing? Er… I don’t know y’all. I wouldn’t hate it if they brought Rosie O’Donnell back.

I think it was just a matter of time that they let Jenny McCarthy go.

  2. ToodySezHey says:

About time. Two morons who do not need a national platform for their bs opinions and world views. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  3. bella says:

    jenny’s dress…anyone know the designer?
she looks so pretty covered up.

  4. Francis says:

    Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!
Both were awful. Sherri should have been let go years ago. Jenny, well goes without saying.

  5. Liz says:

I’ve never seen the show with Jenny but I could not stomach Sherri. She comes across as such an airhead.

    • Francis says:

I couldn’t stand her years ago when she did some MTV hosting show. My brothers loved her then, but I just never got it. Yes she was is pretty but never saw much else to her, she was never funny when she tried to be, never much of anything really with her.

      • Audrey says:

In the 90′s, being pretty, blonde and having big boobs got you a career.

Times changed and lacking actual talent or substance means she doesn’t work much these days. Her fake engagement is why she got this gig

I remember the report that she refused to help her cousin get work for not being attractive enough back in the day. Now she’s begging Melissa for help and she said no. Jenny is a superficial snob who only ever got work based on her looks and now they’re not enough

  6. OutoftheLoop says:

    Just cancel the show already.

  7. Jackson says:

I haven’t watched the show for years but I was hoping Sherri would get a big, fat, obscene contract and her deadbeat loser soon-to-be ex-husband would get zero in the divorce.

    • mayamae says:

I do feel for Sherri in that aspect. She’s fighting for custody of her unborn child, and has now lost her financial edge. This just isn’t the type of show for her. She’s always hustling and works hard to make a living – the soon to be ex did little but spend her money. She’s a good comedic actress, and hopefully she’ll bounce back.

      • delorb says:

I’m thinking those parasites will drop their requests for shared custody, now that they won’t see a big paycheck.

    • Danskins says:

+1…hopefully Sherri will bounce back stronger than ever in the face of her loser ex. She’s smart and talented, and deserves so much better.

  8. MinnFinn says:

Their new creative direction includes Pippa as special correspondent.

  9. lauren says:

I wouldn´t mind if they cancel the view completly. no one needs these airheads.

    • Rae says:

I’ve never watched it because quite honestly, it just seemed like a bunch of women sitting around being ridiculous. But it would be great if the new direction was a show with women discussing important issues intelligently.

  10. Audrey says:

Good. Jenny’s anti-vaccination stance pissed me off. She doesn’t need to be given a spotlight.

Time for her and Donnie to end their PR engagement to get more press

  11. Jenns says:

At least Rosie was interesting. Whoopi is a total bore, Sherri is dumb and Jenny is Jenny.

  12. lisa2 says:

I have been home this week and actually caught the show a couple of times. I saw it when Ross Matthews was on and Bill Rancic. I couldn’t watch the whole show. ONE reason everyone talks over each other. I knew something was going to happen because Sherry has been completely manic. just ridiculously over the top in how she goes on and on. I thought maybe it was because people do that when they are trying to avoid a topic of conversation; her divorce scandal. But also they don’t listen to anyone one. Just screaming and over talking. She talks too much about her son. I saw the show about her son going to camp and she just acted like a fool when talking about him maybe being bullied. I think she and Jenny knew for some time this announcement was coming. Their behavior has been WE WE WE and over doing it.

I would love for Ross to be on the show. He is funny and I like him more than that guy from Sex In the City. The show is really over and needs a new angle or just cancel it. Whoopi is phoning it in too and I see her is such a bad light now.

  13. Kenny Boy says:

Good thing Sherri still has her gig as a spokeswoman for the Ham Council.

  14. ToodySezHey says:

Just cancel the while show. Nobody there is worth a damn. Whoopi lost me for the last time when she defended bieber with that whole he is Canadian and they don’t know what the n word means up there nonsnense. Not to mention she defended Mel when he angrily told his ex he hoped she would get raped by a “pack of n****rs”. Then the whole polowski case which she called , ” not rape rape”

Girl bye. Just cancel the show already.

    • lisa says:

my personal favorite whoopism is when she said the moon landing was a hoax

she’s no smarter than jenny or sherri

    • mayamae says:

Whoopi should be better than Jenny and Sherri, but she’s not. She has defended absolutely every celebrity accused of wrong doing. Her mantra – “We don’t know. We weren’t there”.

She’s admitted she’s only on the show for the paycheck. She’s so disconnected during the show she’s almost comatose, and only shows any enthusiasm when complaining about the government trying to take all her money, or to defend a fellow celebrity. I didn’t blame her totally when Barbara was there, because Barbara would constantly interrupt her (screwing up the teleprompter) and try to hijack the moderator role. Whoopi is just too lazy for her role.

    • Lucy2 says:

It is amazing with all the awful stuff she’s said, she’s the last one standing. Her contract must be iron clad.

  15. eliza says:

I have never watched The View. Couldn’t stand one person on that ridiculous show.

  16. Talie says:

Sherri lasted far longer than she should have. Honestly, the show has lost a significant bite since Rosie left. It’s become so neutered. I think Whoopi should go to since she is always shutting convos down, just like Barbara did.

  17. Nev says:

    Roseanne Barr please.

    • Happyhat says:

Ditto Roseanne Barr – and I don’t even live in the US! I’ve never seen this show, but here’s a suggestion. Feel free to amend!

      Roseanne Barr
      Jane Lynch
      Margaret Cho
      Elizabeth Wurtzel
      Shailene Woodley
      Camille Paglia
      Queen Latifah

      I’d search YouTube for that.

  18. QQ says:

Sherri’s problem is that she is like…stunningly stupid and constantly put her foot straight down her mouth

    • mayamae says:

Absolutely. The problem is her incredible stupidity keeps her from knowing she’s putting her foot in her mouth. Just a few of her stellar moments:

She referred to a black woman as “a black Patti Labelle”.
She stated she didn’t know for sure if Earth is round.
She claimed there is no religion older than Christianity. (My personal favorite)
She called a black Italian woman African-American.

I’m sure she loves her son, but he’s often the butt of her jokes. The fact that he was a micro preemie who has residual problems makes it inexcusable to me.

  19. Dear Producers:

I am available and I believe in vaccinating children. Please have your people call my people.

    Puh-LEEZ: Sherry Shepherd Obituary 2007. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/sherri-shepherd-world-is-flat/

2007 is when I pulled the plug on The View. Jenny HAD to go NOW! http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/elements/2013/07/jenny-mccarthys-dangerous-views.html

    I rest my case.

  21. Carebearvancouver says:

This show has been and always will be horrible. Whoopi is the biggest idiot …ever. Barbara Walters needed to retire 25 years ago. The talk is way way better ….Rosie was the only half tolerable person ever on that show that I can recall and I watched once bc of her and then regretted it.

  22. Sighs says:

The show actually wasn’t terrible when it first came out. Meredith Viera and Lisa Ling at least had some brains and class. I haven’t watched it In A long time. Way too shrieky.

  23. FingerBinger says:

I think they’ll get Meghan McCain for a conservative view and maybe a Hispanic woman.

  24. jr says:

I used to love this show but it’s gotten progressively unwatchable. The worst is Whoopi Goldberg – pointing at people and making “reverse racist” comments. So often she lacks the self-awareness that she accuses everyone else of lacking. Her blatant rudeness is her “entitlement”, I guess. With regards to guest hosts – I’ll never understand why people put up with Ross, he’s so annoying on any show he appears on. The voice just grates on my last nerve. Ugh.

  25. aqua says:

I don’t even know why they call it the view. At least with Elizabeth she brought a different point of view to the table but now everyone is the same.Needs a Democrat ,Republican an independent, people who have a different take on things. To me the original crew was the best.

  26. Michele says:

Jenny McCarthy is insufferable. She came across snotty on the Wahlburgs show on A & E. She’s also allegedly horrible to her cousin Melissa McCarthy. I’m over her and frankly she’s burned a lot of bridges in the business at this point.

  27. Dash says:

The greatest episode of The View ever was the time when Rosie and Elizabeth had a massive fight and it went into split screen, and Joy was screaming at the producers to cut to a commercial break.

The second best time was when Joy was the only permanent co-host on for that day, everyone else was a ring-in. She was cracking jokes the whole time and talking over everyone else. She basically got away with murder.

    I miss Joy.

  28. Apsutter says:

They’re both dumber than a box of rocks. The View is so tired. I’ve been watching The Talk and actually enjoying it quite a bit
