Chelsea Handler is leaving E! after her contract is up this year: bad news or yay?

wenn21156039

I’m getting a funny feeling about this story. And when I say “funny” I mean “delightful schadenfreude.” According to an exclusive with The Hollywood Reporter, Chelsea Handler is going to finish up her contract with E! (she has nine months left) and then she’s going to leave the network to pursue other opportunities. Is this Chelsea’s choice? Or was she pushed? That’s the question. Over the past few months, there were a handful of stories about E! finally going hard on Chelsea and telling her to STFU about Angelina Jolie and to stop with all of the racist crap. Of course, there she was on Oscar night, tweeting racist crap for HuffPo. So, are the powers that be at E! finally sick of her vodka-soaked shenanigans or does Chelsea think she’s outgrown E!?

Chelsea Handler plans to leave the E! channel when her contract expires at the end of the year, bringing a close to her Chelsea Lately talk show after eight years, according to her manager, Irving Azoff. Handler has long been vocal about her dissatisfaction with the network though such complaints could be perceived as part of a negotiation. In this case, Azoff tells The Hollywood Reporter, “Chelsea intends to leave when her contract expires. She hired me to figure out her life after E! We have at least seven suitors and many ideas.” He adds that plans for Handler could include a radio presence and a possible nightly or weekly late-night show on another network or digital service.

An E! spokesperson stated to THR: “Chelsea has nine months left on her contract and E! will not comment on the future of Chelsea Lately at this time.”

Handler is said to feel that she is at the top of her game with a new book, Uganda be Kidding Me — her first to sit at No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list for more than a week. She is in the midst of a tour of more than 30 markets, “a massive piece of business” that also will include dates overseas, according to Geof Wills, president of Live Nation Comedy. She will shoot her first stand-up special at the Harris Theatre in Chicago in June to air on cable in October.

Handler’s reps at CAA have been setting meetings with companies including Sony Television and Lionsgate as well as FX to discuss her future. The extent of interest in her in those quarters is not clear. “I don’t know if anybody’s going to pay her as much as E!,” says a source at one company that has been contacted.

Handler is said to be making about $9 million a year while delivering average viewership of 572,000 a night — a decline from 839,000 in 2010. Ad revenue also has dipped more than 15 percent in recent years to $134.5 million, according to Kantar Media.

Handler has been open about her frustration with programming at E! In a March 5 appearance on Howard Stern’s radio show, she described E! as “a sad, sad place to live,” adding, “They don’t know what they’re doing. They have no ideas. It’s a failure.”

While comics such as Jay Leno long have slung mud at their television homes, it’s hard to imagine that NBCUniversal cable entertainment chairman Bonnie Hammer was amused by Handler’s appraisal of her strategy to rebrand E! over the past few years as a more “aspirational” network. A source at one company on the list to meet with Handler says those public remarks might make potential suitors think twice.

“When you see talent go after a network like that, you think one day it could be me,” this person says. Handler said on Stern’s show that she’d like a forum like Netflix. Broadcast networks probably are out, given Handler’s raunchy brand of humor.

[From THR]

I laughed at the viewership and advertising data – it doesn’t seem like Chelsea’s popularity is on the upswing at all, does it? Her manager tried to spin the data and make it sound like Chelsea is still “winning” even though her viewership has taken a major hit over the past few years (mostly as people have wised up to her nasty, racist shtick), and I guess it’s worth noting that Chelsea is still selling books and she’s still an in-demand stand-up comedienne.

All that being said, do you think Chelsea will be able to relaunch herself on another cable platform or even – gasp! – network TV? I have my doubts. In addition to bad-mouthing E!, Chelsea has also bad-mouthed her own limited abilities to, you know, gossip about celebrities. Cheslea sees herself as the second coming of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. That’s what she really wants to do – gossip about the news. And please, remember how she got the job at E! in the first place: she was banging her married boss. Will she be able to pull that same move somewhere else?

  1. Seriously–that’s probably why E! isn’t renewing her contract. That’s the worse thing you can do–bad mouth the boss–IN PUBLIC. Megan Fox, anyone?

And I honestly don’t know how anyone can stand her show–stand HER. From what little I’ve seen of it (here and my grandma), she talks in this weird, nasally, ‘omg I’m SOOOO bored’ voice, and spends half the time discussing tabloid rumors. Which, if I was a fan of whichever celeb that was on, I wouldn’t want to waste my time on bs rumors that I know aren’t true.

Plus–she is not funny at all–as evidenced by her tweets. And remember–her idea of ‘funny’ is to call one of her employees on his honeymoon, and tell him to come back early, because he’s won the lotto and he needs to claim his prize.

And yeah–I don’t know why she’s always going after Angelina for homewrecking, when she’s the one who was banging her married boss and then dumped him as soon as the ink on her contract was dry. Whatever you think of Angelina, career wise–she’s stood on her own two feet. She has never needed Brad to give her (or her projects) a push in publicity, or to even get a project in the first place.

I’d be more embarrassed if I was Chelsea, than if I was Angelina. Because what Chelsea did was the very definition of prostitution–sleep with someone until they give you what you want, and then when you get it–dump them. I think that if she hadn’t started up with the Angelina is a c-nt routine, then she wouldn’t have had a show–her ratings went up after that.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

So not funny. I’ve only watched a few minutes here and there when I couldn’t sleep, and she’s not very talented.

      • FLORC says:

I’ve given her show a few shots and it was always bad.
She struck me more as someone who used her show to bully some and brown nose others. Never funny.

    • Hiddles forever says:

      I totally agree with you!!

    • Rainbows says:

Her show was offensive and unfunny. But shes getting the boot for trashtalking her network. The Howard Stern interview was especially stoopid. So dumb that I wondered at the time if she was trying to get fired coz she had another gig lined up. I wouldnt celebrate just yet people.

      • Sookie says:

First of all, I am solidly in the YAY camp – this is a long time coming.

Let me be the first to say, this is proof positive of how no good comes from befriending or getting close to Jennifer Aniston, the walking bad luck charm for other people. This dumb ish Handler for the better part of 5 years, has served her mistress and overlord (Aniston and her power PR flack Huvane), doing their dirty work, in most cases ahead of what’s best for her own career since roughly 2008-2009.

I mean, just what does Handler have to show for such obeisance? A couple of trips to Mexico and a few uninspired Aniston visits to her show where Handler hawks Aniston’s dumb flops harder than she does? A reputation as an awful vile disgusting and racist human being? At one point she had 3 or 4 shows airing simultaneously – now she only has 1, and will have 0 in less than 9 months. Her movie career (snort) as sidekick to yet another CAA buddy, Reese boringspoon, was hilariously short lived – with her getting panned mercilessly. Her hosting gig opportunities all but dried up permanently after her awful MTV Award Show bungling in which the critics savaged her like it was a part time job.

Was signing on with Huvane really good for her career? I maintain she would at least have had the same level of success and failure without paying him 10% of her gross, and acquiring the rep as Aniston’s 2nd in command pitbull & butt wiper (Huvane is 1st). Aniston of course benefited as Handler immediately stopped ridiculing her, and started attacking Angelina Jolie, all for Aniston to maintain the ‘warring’ she’s gotten so much career mileage/relevance out of. But really, what has THAT gotten Handler? Secret high fives at Aniston dinner parties?

In terms of the industry it was a bad bad move. How much reputable industry and peer hardware has Brangelina been nom’d/won for their work in the last 5-7 years? Seriously, I think it’s upwards of 40 Awards – they can’t stay off award show red carpets (and unlike Aniston, they aren’t there because they begged to present ‘Best Handgrip in a Featured Animated Foreign Short Claymation.’ Aniston, has netted ZERO awards/noms (NOT including the special paid for awards like ‘fav dirtbag’ or ‘best shirtless,’ that Huvane probably purchases on some of these canned cheese awards) That means the industry, is clearly NOT ‘Team Aniston,’ LOL – Handler ultimately is none too bright. Alienating true industry powerbrokers who love the people your new bestie hates, or worse alienating true industry powerbrokers who ARE the people your new bestie hates – is a mouth breather move, seriously.

But I digress…back to her firing.

This is a chicken/egg scenario. Which came first: her badmouthing E! then getting the boot because of IT… OR…her being told she was to be deep-sixed by E!, THEN came her ‘badmouthing,’ (all to save face when the word came out her show was toast).

I personally think it’s the latter.

See, her badmouthing E! in earnest didn’t really start until earlier this month, post Oscar. I think she’s known for a long time that E! probably wouldn’t be renewing her contract, and I think she was trying to make some moves behind the scenes probably for the better part of a year, to get a a latenight network gig and it fell through (hence her playing the faux feminist in a piece for Marie Claire).

The Oscar fiasco on Huffpo, E! wasn’t thrilled with – but I think by then they had long planned to cut her loose, and that little vengeful stunt on Huffpo was Handler trying to show E! she didn’t need them (think about it, she could have just as easily have taken over E!’s coverage of the Oscars, or heck – even finagled her way onto the red carpet, or had her own Oscar special with Ross and her panel. Why go to Huffpo, when if there’s one night where E! rules the roost, it’s Oscar coverage).

That Huffpo stunt probably just made E! lash out (see effing w/ her by getting a Kardashian to guest host her show). The Oscar Huffpo public backlash was so strong – if you google Handler and racist you get more hits than Paula Deen and racist – that is a huge black eye for Handler and E!, on top of them already being dissatisfied with her show’s plummeting ratings.

A big clue she was toast, was E! inviting a Kardashian to guest host Handler’s own show! Does anyone here think that was Handler’s decision? lol Oh suuuure, Handler tried to play it off like ‘of all the Kardashians she hates, she hates Khloe somewhat less’ – but if she had been in charge, who here is brain dead enough to think she would have selected a Kardashian to begin with?!! She’s always claiming how down she is for other comics, particularly struggling/upNcoming female comics – yet she wants us to believe she selected a Kardashian to pinch hit? Bahaha. That was E! effing with her.

Lastly, I don’t know who this Azoff person is, coming out of the woodwork as ‘her manager,’ but one has to wonder why that move wouldn’t have been made by her power PR flack that she shares with Aniston and Paltrow, Stephen Huvane. It would have had a greater impact, if HE was the one talking to press (as he should be, since he is Mr. Clandestine Scheming & Damage Control central) rather than this dude no one knows.

My guess is, the ish is stinking to high heaven post Oscar fiasco and now that she’s been booted, Huvane doesn’t want any kind of direct association with himself or his clientele attached to this now even steamier pile.

But hey, I’d like to congratulate Handler on almost selling as many books as Brandi Glanville, the Real Housewife.

    • Ramona Q. says:

      Virgilia Coriolanus:
That isn’t the definition of prostitution, that is an example of using someone. I’m defending prostitutes here, not Chelsea.

  2. Kiddo says:

I haven’t watched her show in a few years, but when I did, it always seemed that the funniest quips came from the guest panelists. Maybe she needs better writers? I have no idea. Being controversial isn’t a problem for me, in humor; being unfunny is.

    • Hope says:

I agree, that way my fav part of the show. Unless she was interviewing someone I am really interested in I would change the channel at the first commercial break after the panel was done.

    • Candy Love says:

I watched her show I n the beginning when she had the Kardshians on before they got there own show, I stop watching it after a week because she just wasn’t funny. Her guest comedians were 10 times funnier then she ever was and it used to bug the hell out of me when she would cutting them off or never letting them talk which happened all the time.

I don’t think you can blame the writers because Chelsea used to talk about being hands on with the writing .

  3. V4Real says:

I was waiting for you to report on this story. She had the nerves to say that E was an evil place to live. Yeah bitch it’s evil because you’re ass live there. I’m sure there will be no tears shed over your departure.

I can’t wait for this clown to disappear off into obscurity and to never be heard from again until VH1 does one of those “Where are they Now” episodes.

    • Maya says:

Hopefully she will disappear from Hollywood and take some of her equally vile friends with her.

    • Candy Love says:

She full of sh*t remember when she was going to leave back in 2012 and going to be come a “serious journalist”. Lol “Then her show Are You There, Chelsea?” Failed and the move with Reese Witherspoon bomb and she went running back to E!.

If E! Was such an evil place to live why did she go back?

  4. Greata says:

I do not believe in attacking other women, but I am sooooo glad this B#*CH is finally getting a visit from the Goddess/God Karma!

  5. Lydia says:

    She’s a hag.

  6. Talie says:

She has talked about how she does want to get into more serious news — but I’m not sure what she thinks qualifies her for this?? Nothing about her background suggests a person who knows enough about world events or politics.

Back in the day, her show was funny, especially her interviews, because she didn’t care and really went hard. Now, she sucks up to everyone.

    • idk says:

She barely talks on her show now. The guests seem to do all the work. All Chelsea does is make annoying faces and stare into the camera. Unbelievable considering she has writers on her show who write jokes for her. She is definitely not earning her 9 million a year…Chuy deserves the money more than she does.

  7. bammer says:

The only shocking thing about this is that she makes 9 million a year. WTF? I truly don’t understand the entertainment business where the lowest of the low still make millions.

  8. Candy Love says:

I think Chelsea “chose” to leave the same way Bethenny Franke “chose” meaning the rating were down and they had no other choices.

  9. Cecilia says:

tick, tick, tick…time’s up for you, Chelsea.

  10. Also–I honestly don’t see Chelsea getting any kind of a high profile gig, and if she does–then she won’t have it for long…she seems to be really, really, REALLY lazy.

So if she takes a nose dive in popularity/work, how many of her so called celeb friends with publicly associate with her then, when she’s not supplying them with booze and talking shit about their ‘enemies’?

    Very few, I would imagine.

    • Camille (The Original) says:

Yes it will be VERY interesting to see if those celeb ‘friends’ still hang out with her if she ends up with nothing but a radio show. Hollywood is a fickle place, and if they can’t find some use for her I doubt she’ll still be running with AListers. Time will tell I guess…

  11. Zandy says:

    Karma…..

  12. Hautie says:

The only thing that is giving me pause… is the mention of her manager, Irving Azoff.

Irving doesn’t screw around. The man has a plan and an attack on how to get it. Azoff is very good at getting things, for his clients. Which makes me think there is some big future objective, they are starting to roll out.

The question is, will Chelsea be able to keep from setting it on fire. She just does not strike me sane. So can she behave, till she obtains what she wants?

    • Bridget says:

It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out, because Late Night is a TOUGH niche. I wonder what the ultimate plan is – would it be to try to move to a different basic cable network? Or to move to a premium network (like John Oliver’s deal with HBO)? The problem is, Handler isn’t a quality product but makes a boatload of money. She mistakes abrasiveness for humor, and ends up being just plain not funny. She’s primarily in the news for insulting people, instead of putting out interesting or funny bits.

    • Sharon Lea says:

You hit on something Joan Rivers discussed on Howard Stern (her interview was a few days after Chelsea was on.) Joan wondered if Chelsea had something lined up somewhere else because the comments she has been making were pretty negative about E! and most employees would not bash upper management like she has so openly.

Joan said Fashion Police is the highest rated show on E! Can’t help but think Chelsea must be somewhat embarrassed that her show has lost ratings, she doesn’t seem to have a strong fan base.

  13. PunkyMomma says:

Maybe she wants the recently vacated 9:00 pm slot at CNN. She’s equally as repulsive as Piers Morgan in my book, but she had no problem calling him out on losing his gig.

  14. lower-case deb says:

i’ve wondered why she’s suddenly everywhere these past few months, or at least news of her being everywhere hanging out at Gwen Stef’s baby shower, being picked up by Sandra Bullock (or Charlize? can’t remember) to go to post-Oscar party… look people! I knowww people! so sad E! now you don’t get the scoop on these people!

  15. Abbott says:

I just hope they don’t bring back Whitney Cummings and try to make her happen. Again.

  16. MonicaQ says:

Sometimes you can bad mouth a network and come back. To quote Dan Patrick, “Keith [Olbermann] didn’t burn bridges. He napalmed them [at ESPN].” And then 15 years later he’s back.

But he is a good commentator which Chelsea Handler isn’t a good talk show host. I mean, good lord her show is painful. But it is possible but you have to be good, be remorseful, and grovel a bit.

  17. Alexandra says:

Just wait – she will probably end up with Piers Morgan’s slot on CNN! Yikes!

    • Sookie says:

Don’t know why CNN, who’s cable network is already being lampooned as a shell of it’s former self, with people like Jon Stewart and Bill Maher leading the charge, would think a racist tabloid regurgitating viper with bad ratings would be the thing to turn their news organization around. I would think Kathy Griffin, Anderson Cooper’s bestie, or Anderson himself, or about 100 other reputable journalists and comedians would better serve CNN, not that toxic mediocrity.

  18. Dawn says:

I think it good news. Maybe NBC is finally going to reel this god awful station in. Now if it would only stop paying millions to the hideous Kardashian family that no one really cares to keep up with, perhaps they could put that money into R&D and come up with some better scripted shows. Nothing is more damaging to young girls than the insanity and morally corrupt that is the Kardashians.

    • Kiddo says:

NBC has something to do with the Kardashians? I had no idea. I thought they were in the vast wasteland of junk cable.

      • MonicaQ says:

They’re part of NBC Universal. E!, Telemundo, USA, Syfy, Chiller, Esquire Network, Bravo, The Weather Channel and 32% of Hulu.

Then the normal ish like NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, and the theme parks.

      • Kiddo says:

        Thanks MonicaQ.

  19. GiGi says:

She’s just a hideous person, seemingly. I remember watching her show a few times when it first started, and I kept thinking, “What? Where’s the funny part?” It was just so bad. And I can’t help but feel that people who like her are secretly racist, too. I know that’s fuzzy logic on my part, but it’s there. It would be one thing if she were funny – many comics do racial humor and do it well, but she is just in bad taste. Blech.

  20. Angel May says:

Chelsea is similar to Kathy Griffin in that her shtick depended on her outsider role, when they become too successful they stop being funny. I used to like Chelsea back in the day. I think she lost her edge when she became accepted into the cool blonde girl sorority of Jen-Reese-Gwynnie-Cammie etc etc.

I think E! Is going downhill in general. For the past few years I only watch their red-carpet awards season coverage. I don’t even watch fashion police anymore, it’s such a snooze.

    • PunkyMomma says:

I agree, Angel, with your comparison to Kathy Griffin. I’ve seen both live and I’d never pay to see either one again. They’re entire act consists of mean, personal attacks. They lack wit and comedic talent. It’s not comedy at all.

  21. lisa2 says:

    GOOD NEWS.. she is leaving

BAD NEWS … it is not until the end of the year.

as many have noted her ratings are not good. Dropping each year. And I really think there are some people that are not happy with how she got the job in the firs place. Besides she made such a big deal when she moved to that bigger studio that her show would be different. That she would be doing some innovative things. Well nothing changed. Same old same old.. Except the Kardashians got to host when she was away. Maybe that was the innovative part.

I can’t stand her and it was very disappointing because I tried to support her show because she was a woman. Steven Colbert is getting some bad press because of a twitter comment he made. So no it is not about her as a woman but a vulgar unfunny so called comedian.

Wonder where all the “friends of her show” will go to have their butts kissed next year.

  22. Midnight says:

They’re finally taking the trash out and leaving it at the curb!

  23. Luca26 says:

I don’t think she’s really going for good. Like it or not someone will hire her. She’s like a cockroach she isn’t easy to get rid of.

  24. truthful says:

How much did E pay her in her contract?? I forgot…
I knew her crap would come to an end on E…

could it be that they are not renewing her contract? most likely

    • cr says:

From the article posted above, around 9 million a year.
So yes, that’s probably playing a part in E! not renewing.

  25. Janet says:

Good riddance. Kick her racist ass out the door. She isn’t even funny.

  26. Shiksa Goddess says:

She stopped being funny a while ago for me. Now she’s just annoying.

  27. Anon says:

Handler takes cheap shots because it sold books, just like she did on tour. The only problem with that …people get p!ssed and write nasty reviews (because of her shoddy product) or part with their money on a Handler project again. I’m glad E! woke up, decided to kick the unfunny racist to the curb.

  28. Anon says:

Now can we just get rid of Joan Rivers too… Would make my day…

    • LAK says:

Joan Rivers is actually funny. Fashion Police doesn’t do her justice and has reduced her to a caricature.

      • Camille (The Original) says:

And at least Joan makes fun of EVERYONE. She doesn’t ass kiss any celebs.

  29. idk says:

I think E would have kept her as long as her ratings were good. So, I’m guessing her ratings are bad. I mean people don’t like the Kardashians, they are annoying, yet they have two NEW spin-off shows coming out this year…so as long as the ratings are there, E has no standards. I’m looking forward to Chelsea finally talking crap about E once she’s out of there. I know she is dying to talk smack about the Kardashians without having to worry about any repercussions.

    • I’ve been hearing that her ratings have been tanking for the past year…..which isn’t surprising. She’s not funny–she doesn’t get into the news unless she’s bashing Angelina. In 2013, she called Angelina a demon, like a month or so before Angelina announced that she went through a double mastectomy–didn’t say jack shit about her until the Oscars, a year later–in that time, I had not read ONE news/gossip story about Handler. Hadn’t even seen a clip of her show on Yahoo–like they often do with The Soup, Fashion Police, etc..nothing.

Unless Handler is bullying someone, she isn’t even on people’s radar. That, coupled with her talking shit about the hand that feeds her…..

      • idk says:

I totally agree with you. I’m not surprised her ratings are bad. I have seen her show, she is horrible at hosting, not funny at all, and just comes off as if she doesn’t want to be there.

I am looking forward to some juicy secrets Chelsea is keeping about the E network and those who work for E…I know she has some good dirt and will probably write a book about it. Not that I’d buy her book, but the gossip sites will have the good quotes.

  30. Adrien says:

I see her as the female Adam Corolla. She has not changed her schtick since Girls Behaving Badly. I actually find her funny on that show but maybe that’s because I was too young then. She should have brought some maturity to her comedic material by now. Perhaps she should just do podcasting like Adam Corolla. That could work.

  31. idk says:

I wonder who will get Chelsea’s time slot once she leaves? They should put Ross Mathews at that time and on a daily basis instead of just once a week. He is funny to me. Let’s just hope and pray E doesn’t give Kris Jenner her own talk show…she tried that once and failed badly, but E is a crazy network so who knows.

  32. abby says:

Part of me wants to do a happy dance ala the munchkins from the Wizard of Oz “Ding Dong the witch ….”

However, a more realistic side of me senses that Handler will land on her feet somewhere. She’s like certain insects, their kind always survive. That said, despite her manager’s spin I cannot imagine that her options are as grand as they would like us to think.

Movie studios want to make a profit. No mainstream film with Handler in the lead is ever going to fly unless the material is watered down beyond recognition. And at Handler’s age? Let’s not kid ourselves, in terms of talent she’s no Kathy Bates or Reese Witherspoon. And she’s no eye candy either. So yeah. That’s why Handler, when she does appear in films, will forever be the “caustic, opinionated best-friend” whose scenes can easily be trimmed down as needed. So I doubt that “career option” will work.
Also, I think Handler has spewed enough of her venom to alienate anyone with a larger platform than E! (ABC, NBC, etc) Not even including the Jolie stuff (which is offensive enough), Handler is too controversial/polarising for network TV (there is a reason Leno was so popular) and she’s unapologetic and cannot be controlled. I find it hilarious that she aspires to be Stewart/Colbert but the thing is a true satirist uses humor to straddle the fine line between social commentary/criticism without creating major offense. Stewart and Colbert are successful more often than not while Handler is just plain old offensive, mean and a bully That HuffPo adventure was great. I am glad she displayed her colors to such a liberal audience because they will remember.
Further, she does not draw a large enough audience to make her antics worth the risk for any network. Those numbers in the Hollywood Reporter article are hilarious. And attacking the boss too? What was she thinking? This aint the boss that she humped to get the gig! (Joan Rivers was so on about that! And Handler “Girls’ girl” is such a hypocrite) Handler, must have had too much vodka, got confused and thought she could smoothe it over with a BJ or something. I guess Handler now knows it’s time to get out of Dodge.

Radio? I guess she could follow Howard Stern and others and go to satellite radio or some other subscription services (Netflix, etc). I don’t know much about that medium but again, you’ve got to bring in the audience and they have to be willing to pay for you. It’s possible she could be successful there with the celeb guests and her panel. And I suppose this format could work with her book tours and such. She can be as raunchy and nutty as she wishes. Personally , I think radio/subscription is her best bet.

To be honest though, given there are 9 months left in her contract, I wonder if contract talks with E! are over and done or if this is some negotiating tactic to get them to pony up significantly more cash or get her fans to “save the show”. The E! spokesperson did not wish Handler well in her future projects but was kind of closed-lipped so maybe the matter is not really done. And I would not put it beyond Handler to try something like that.

Whatever happens, I will be happy to see her off the air. And outside of the Kardashians and Fashion Police, I may actually watch E! again. Actually, not gonna happen, their hosts are way too annoying. I never thought I’d ever say that the days of Steve Kimetko and Jules Asner would be the “good ol’ days” of E!

    • She’ll survive–but she probably won’t get a gig as good as the one she has now, unless some fool is dumb enough to sleep with her again for a contract.

She’s not good at standup OR hosting(I remember the reviews from the VMAs), she can barely act like she’s interested on her own show–if she’s lucky she might get some kind of low tier show/network.

But she’s trashed the network–more than once (she also trash talked the married boss in an interview right after she got her contract)–so what network would want to hire someone who is (a) not talented (b) lazy as hell, and (c) lays all of the network’s business out on the street when she’s trash talking them–I wouldn’t hire her. She’s not worth the trouble–she’s controversial, but not in a good way, a way that encourages debate–just in a ‘omg she’s a vile, idiotic, unfunny, lazy racist’.

      She inspires NOTHING.

I think her manager is scrambling, because no way are other networks beating down her door (at least not the networks that she wants)–I wonder how her PR is doing…..we’re probably going to be inundated by several Girl’s Girl bs stories about Chelsea until her contract ends….

Haha, I am very much in the minority clearly and think she’s funny. I love her interviews with guests. I don’t tune in regularly but everytime I catch an interview with someone I like, she does a great job.

She’s not a racist and this whole thing is so clearly overblown and annoys me to no end. Louis CK has become beloved, I love ‘em both and he says FAR racier things about other races and goes as far as saying the n-word with no repercussions. Why does she get all this ridiculous flack, because she’s a woman? Seriously, I’d like an answer, I’m a huge comedy buff and what she says is so incredibly mild compared to her male counterparts.

I really do feel that comedy needs to be held to different standards and there’s a huge difference between racism and a woman referencing black people in her joke (Lupita/Angelina on twitter).

    • Sookie says:

You clearly are unaware of all the other racist ish she’s said outside of that Lupita comment on Twitter – the woman admitted she said racist cr*p to 50 Cent that her own friends were aghast at, not to mention other forms of racist ridicule that encompass what could loosely describe her ‘act.’

      • Karen says:

She mentioned this on Howard Stern, I saw the interview and I interpreted it as her saying something to him that destroyed his ego, not something that was insanely racist.

Like I said, what she’s saying isn’t exactly vanilla but so many male comedians discuss race extensively and don’t get any flack.

      • Sookie says:

Karen, that’s b.s. Handler specifically said, that what she called 50 cent was the “worst thing you could call a black person, short of calling them the n-word,” then she said it was actually just like the n-word – bottomline, she admitted to calling him a racial slur that would offend black people period, she didn’t stress ‘male ego,’ she stressed ‘BLACK.’ I saw the transcript.

Also, again with the male/female phoney outrage.

No one discriminates against that lame no talent mean toxic boozer because she’s female. She’s loathed because she’s an awful person and an even worse comic. She is not funny.

The reason some male comics get no flack, as well as some female, is because they have JOKES and they bring the funny. To them, BEING BLACK is NOT the punchline! Something Handler can’t seem to grasp.

This has nothing to do with Handler being treated unfairly as a female comic, that are loads of funny women in her business, that could make a joke about race, and DO, and have people in hysterics. It’s the WAY she ridicules people for just being black, or Hispanic, or Asian – there is no joke there. Calling Sydney Poitier, Nelson Mandela is not a punch line. Aligning 12 Years A Slave to her book because she has Uganda in the title is not a joke either.

    • Maggie says:

Totally agree with your comment however I read one of her books and didn’t like it. Just watch an old Dean Martin roast. They were so politically incorrect but there was no mean nasty intention. it was all in fun. PPl are too up tight today!

    • abby says:

      Karen,

I agree with you only so far in that there is a double standard. I do not think that Handler should be torn to pieces while men are given a free pass for similar or far greater offenses. So in terms of gender equality, I say if we burn one I say burn them all.
But I am also a practical person and I recognize that we still live in a man’s world – Megan Fox had her career ruined for speaking against Michael Bay yet Shia criticizes Spielberg and all is well.

Anyway, beyond the above I cannot critique the men you mentioned because I have not seen their acts. I have seen Handler and her so called “girls’ girl” bullsh#t. Her twitter escapade, the comments on the Jolie-Pitt children, called Zahara a monkey, etc. hmm, maybe it’s because I’m a person of color but I am less than amused. (and btw, I find all racially insensitve humor unamusing. Chris Rock and Chris Tucker are some of the worst. It’s not that I cannot take a joke but people often do not know when to stop. Handler is one of those who has no sense of where to draw the line).
And her hypocrisy is astounding. Cause let’s face it, Handler would not be where she is if she was not involved with her married E! boss. So her audacity to act all superior, to be the guardian of female relationships is downright hilarious, hysterical and absurd.

If Handler’s talents extend beyond her sexual prowess I am sure she will continue to be successful. If not, soon she’ll wither away into obscurity as younger, fresher and more eager young ladies take her place.

I think there should be a ticker tape parade the day her last show films. Not in her honor… But in honor of ALL those that have have had their name escape thru that vile mouth in a negative way, those that wasted precious time sitting thru at least one of her horrible routines or shows that were giving her the benefit of the doubt, last but never least.. The poor employees that worked for her! Can you imagine her razor sharp tongue to anyone that messed up?

She reminds me of the EVIL Flying Monkeys that do the bidding of the Evil Witch on “The Wizard of Oz”. She may be the head Witch.. But I see her.. I see Flying Monkeys!! Especially since she has a cackle that flies w/ her to Cabo to booze it up & laugh at innocent children she berates!!!

  35. John says:

Good riddance. Can’t stand her, have thought she was nothing but a grown-up mean girl ever since Girls Behaving Badly.

  36. mitzigaynor says:

    Karma prevails!

  37. Nikki L. says:

It seems like anyone these days can spew stupid cr@p and call themselves a “comedian” and adopt the “well if you don’t like it, don’t listen” attitude.

    She’s vile. No love lost.

  38. JoJo says:

I have no problem with abrasive or controversial humor, but the problem is, she’s not funny … AT ALL! Zero talent. Every single time I’ve watched her, I’m dumbstruck by how funny she isn’t. She just sits there and insults people in her deadpan voice – there’s nothing remotely witty about her. Pluck your average mean girl from the crowds, and they could do her job.

  39. RK says:

I used to find her funny years ago. I even watched her show at times. She used to be edgier and not as offensive. Now she is just so annoying I cant stand her anymore
