Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s last View episode is today, she’s joining Fox & Friends

Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Next season of “The View” is shaping up to look almost entirely different than the panel that long-time viewers have grown accustomed to seeing on their television screens every morning. Last we heard, Jenny McCarthy is in serious talks” to replace Joy Behar at the end of this season, and Barbara Walters will also be departing at that time as well. Now Page Six has reported an exclusive bombshell that says Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving too, and her last day is … today. Damn, that was fast.

Of course, Elisabeth (who joined “The View” in 2002) has seemed to be on the verge of leaving the show for quite some time. She doesn’t handle conflict well and doesn’t exactly represent in a strong, coherent way as the sole conservative on the panel. She also tends to say some really dumb stuff like women only go lesbian when they can’t find a man. Way back in 2008, Elisabeth’s days were supposedly numbered. Most recently in March, she was allegedly kicked off the show for being “too extreme and right wing” although at the time, an ABC rep insisted Liz was “a valued member of ‘The View’ and has a long term contract.” A few days later, Barbara Walters insisted that the rumors were not true and “we have no plans for Elisabeth to leave the show.” Well, plans have changed very quickly, and Page Six says Elisabeth will be running out the door tomorrow for a new gig on “Fox & Friends”:

Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Elizabeth Hasselbeck is leaving “The View” and joining Fox News’ morning show “FOX and Friends” as a co-host, Page Six has exclusively confirmed.

After much speculation, conservative co-host Hasselbeck is following Barbara Walters and Joy Behar out of the ABC daytime talk show. She will join Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade on the Fox couch in mid-September.

FOX News Chairman & CEO Roger Ailes announced, “Elisabeth’s warm and engaging personality made her a star on ‘The View.’ She has proven to be an excellent conversationalist and I am certain she will make a great addition to our already successful morning franchise.”

Hasselbeck added, “I have been a long-time fan of ‘Fox & Friends’ and am excited to be joining their team in September.”

Current ‘FOX & Friends’ co-host Gretchen Carlson will now anchor a one-hour daytime program beginning in early fall.

Fox News last week announced that Megyn Kelly is moving to primetime after she returns from maternity leave. Kelly currently hosts “America Live” which airs from 1pm to 3pm.

The network also announced that it has signed long-term deals with Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren, who host from 8 until 11 pm, as well as with Bret Baier and Shep Smith, who host the 6pm and 7pm hours.

There has been much speculation about 36-year-old Hasselbeck’s next move after Sherri Shepherd hinted that the outspoken blonde could be leaving “The View.”

So many changes, I can’t believe it!” Sherri told Wendy Williams on June 17, “The two black women are left; usually, they kill us off in the beginning.”

Recent reports have said that Jenny McCarthy or Brooke Shields may take over Hasselbeck’s role on “The View.”

[From Page Six]

Obviously, the show now needs a replacement for Elisabeth, and since she’s leaving so soon, there will probably be a flurry of guest hosts vying for the permanent gig. Back when all the talk was going on in March, Brooke Shields looked to be the frontrunner, but who knows where ABC will go with this. What I want to know is this — why hasn’t ABC given Rachel Campos-Duffy a real shot at the panel? She’s served as a guest host several times and was actually one of the finalists during the period when Elisabeth was ultimately hired. Rachel is adorable and just happens to be conservative. From what I recall from her stint on “The Real World,” her positions tend to be slightly more socially liberal than Elisabeth’s. I think Rachel would be a perfect fit (she’s been doing more guest gigs recently, so fingers crossed), and I think Elisabeth will greatly enjoy her time working with like-minded people at “Fox News.”

She’ll be exactly where she belongs.

    Good riddance.

  2. Dawn says:

This is old news…just not formally announced news. She will fit right in with Fox news and no one there will ever challenge her on her beliefs.

    • Holly says:

Definitely. Barbara’s lackluster, ambiguous denial of Elizabeth’s contract not being renewed was embarrassing to watch. Maybe without Bab’s on the show daily, she just didn’t have someone watching her contract/back?

Elizabeth (the “designer” ugh, blah, yech, smirk…) always looks a wreck but I do like her sailor-style pants in that one photo – but not the rest of it, she never could put a few pieces of clothing together, wonder if she’ll get pantsuits at FOX?!

  3. marie says:

    she’s leaving a show I don’t watch to join another show I don’t watch..meh

    • Holly says:

Word to that. It doesn’t matter who they replace her or Joy with, that creeping misogynist Bill Geddie will continue to pull all of the hosts’ strings and make a mess out of the thing. He is not a fan of anything beyond 7th grade behavior. I’m sure the same old dribble will be fed into their earpieces.

  4. lucy2 says:

If they truly want differing view points, I hope they find a smart, reasonable, able to think for herself conservative.

Elisabeth going to Fox is no shocker.

    • juststeph says:

Thank you. I’m really hoping they get someone who can articulate conservative views without sounding like a bigot. I mean why can’t they represent the majority of us who are socially pretty liberal.

    • Sandip says:

I agree, someone that actually has conservative views as opposed to just spouting talking points.

  5. Melissa says:

I might watch the view if she leaves. I quit watching because of her and Rosie. I like “The Talk” better.

    • Lucinda says:

I might check it out depending on who they get but I don’t hold much hope. When the show first aired, it was advertised as a smart talk show for women. And it was. At first. Then it just spiraled into trivial stories and silly bickering like they thought that was all women wanted to watch. It really is insulting in a way.

    • Sabrine says:

They’re just going to replace one yappy ditz with another if they hire Jenny McCarthy. Still won’t be watchable.

  6. Joanna says:

I can’t stand this broad. Fox is the perfect show for this idiot. The only reason she’s gotten as far as she has is because she’s an attractive blond. She’s perfect for Fox news. an attractive moron

    • Cece says:

This. There are smart conservatives out there, but Fox only wants these hysterical shrews who can create controversy with their stupidity. I can’t imagine other “news” channels pulling their talent from reality shows. Fox is a continued embarrassment for all conservatives.

    • Belle Epoch says:

Amazing – all she ever did was appear on Survivor and she thinks she is qualified to use her little lecture notes to reprimand the nation. DETEST her.

      • stinky says:

someone already called her a shrew… i was just about to say ‘harpy-shrew’! icky POO.

      • Dawned says:

Ditto! I stopped watching the show because I just couldn’t take her anymore. I always liked Joy for her quick wit and putting Elizabeth in her place.

  7. Esmom says:

“I think Elisabeth will greatly enjoy her time working with like-minded people at Fox News.”

My thoughts exactly. Preaching to the choir is a lot less challenging than being the minority POV on most things. So a narrow, biased news source only becomes more so with her. It’s depressing to think that people watch Fox thinking they’re getting balanced coverage.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

      Yup, the perfect place indeed.

She can be surrounded by people who reinforce her political stance, preaching to an audience that is only watching to have their existing views validated.

She’s not someone that can handle being challenged in a graceful way, which makes her perfect for Fox News viewers, who will happily oblige her.

    • Turtle Dove says:

I agree with all the comments. I can’t stand her. She comes across like a bully and is a screamer. then when she’s derided for her rants, she cries and thinks that will make it all better.

Good riddance. I stopped watching this show because of her.

      • Lisa says:

On top of that, she’s also gluten intolerant! The world is so HARD for people like her, with, ya know, money to spend on the gluten-free products she shills in her books.

      • Turtle Dove says:

As a gluten free gal, I can say that life is not that rough, and I don’t know what she complains about. If anything my food budget is cheaper because I make everything at home. :)

    • Tiffany :) says:

I agree. I am actually a little surprised she wasn’t put on Fox News sooner. They like their women to be the same cookie-cutter blondes that parrot the catch-phrase of the day. She is a perfect fit for them.

  8. Inconceivable! says:

Considering it should be a show sharing a variety of perspectives, so many people are extremely intolerant of Elizabeth’s views. I’m quite amazed at the hatred spewed toward her…simply for sharing a different perspective held by many women in the US.

    • Falula says:

My problem isn’t that she has a conservative viewpoint, it’s that she does so without substance and seemingly without deep understanding. She’s a sheep.

That being said, I think many of the other cohosts are the same way on the other side, and I haven’t been able to sit down and watch a whole episode of this show in years.

And if McCarthy really does replace Behar, I can be sure I’ll stay away. I don’t need to hear anyone spewing garbage about how going gluten free “cured” her child from autism he got “from vaccines.”

      Sorry for the tangent. /EndRant

      • Esmom says:

No apologies needed for the Jenny McC tangent. She has done serious damage in the autism community with her irresponsible claims and whack job views. I don’t watch the View and I don’t imagine I ever will but the thought of her having a national forum on a daily basis makes my stomach turn.

    • coe says:

Many people are intolerant of Elisabeth Hasslebeck because she is often completely incoherent. “She who screams the loudest is rarely ever heard.”

    • anneesezz says:

Maybe because her views are usually closed minded and mean spirited. For the most part she was just using Republican talking points, not expressing her own opinions so she will fit right in at Fox News.

    • MonicaQ says:

It is (at least on my part) intolerance. It’s the fact she can’t put together an argument. Just yelling about how your husband is a football player and football players are too macho to accept a gay player has very little to do with gay marriage (or just marriage). Most a slippery slope or even worse straw man arguments.

That and she has the charisma of a plank of wood stuck in the sand at high tide.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Exactly. People don’t dislike her because she’s conservative, people dislike her because she’s unintelligent and unable to form a cogent argument for any of her viewpoints.

      • MonicaQ says:

It’s supposed to be “It isn’t”, oops. Not enough coffee. /falls into ground.

      • gogoGorilla says:

LOL, agree 100%. She screeches like a monkey and also throws a lot of poo. I stopped watching years ago.

    • doofus says:

it’s not simply because of her views, and I’m betting you know that, but it’s easier to cry “intolerance!” than admit that Hasselbeck is pretty much an idiot who can’t argue a point (since all she does is parrot what she hears on Fox “News”) and who cries when challenged on her claims.

if she had half a brain in her head, and could think critically, I don’t think people would dislike her as much.

There are plenty of intelligent, well-spoken conservative women, but she ain’t one of them.

Frankly, she’ll fit in perfectly with those other dolts on Fox and Friends.

      • Inconceivable! says:

The same argument can be made for the lack of critical thinking from the left-wing sides of The View table. But people like to criticize Elizabeth more so than the other ladies. None of the left leaning ladies at that table are deep, independent thinkers either. And I stand by my statement that people are intolerant of opposing views.

      • Spooks says:

Maybe, but when you look in general, GOP has much much more nutjobs than the Democrats.

      • doofus says:

“The same argument can be made for the lack of critical thinking from the left-wing sides of The View table.”

Absolutely true. But this post isn’t about them.

“But people like to criticize Elizabeth more so than the other ladies.”

Not so. Whoopi was criticized for her “rape rape” comment, among others. Sherri was criticized for her “the world is flat” stuff, among other things. Barbara has been criticized for a whole host of stupid comments. And on THIS site, most posters hate the show and are annoyed by all of the women on there.

“None of the left leaning ladies at that table are deep, independent thinkers either.”

Never said they were…again, this post is about Hasselbeck.

“And I stand by my statement that people are intolerant of opposing views.”

stand by it all you want; it’s certainly true for some people. but not me, and not about Hasselbeck.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I agree, Doofus. You made a lot of great points in your posts.

    • Merritt says:

If she were capable of putting together a thoughtful and intelligent argument then people would react differently, even if they didn’t agree. However she has demonstrated that she isn’t capable, and has often retreated into tears to garner sympathy.

    • cpr8405 says:

I agree that a lot these comments seem unfair and one-sided .Elizabeth is a “bully, a coward, idiot, bad dresser,” etc etc. I haven’t watched the View enough to know how annoying or not Elizabeth is, but I’ll give her a chance on Fox. What I do know is Rosie O’Donnell was by far the biggest bully , and she crumbled like bullies often do when confronted. Elizabeth, on the other hand, isn’t running away like some coward who couldn’t take the heat. Her contract wasn’t renewed and she’s just moving on to her next gig.

      • Inconceivable! says:

Two of the other ladies couldn’t even remain professional and sit on the couch during an interview with a guest they disliked (Bill O’Reilly). I believe it was Joy & Whoopi who stormed off….intolerant? Yes.

  9. Cody says:

The Fox network is a good place for her and since I don’t watch Fox and Friends, I don’t have to listen to Elisabeth’s annoying comments.

  10. coe says:

Good riddance – Eisabeth Hasselbeck could not form an articulate argument if her life depended on it. She will fit in perfectly on the Fox News cable program. If The View wants a brilliant conservative voice, they should look for a female version of the late William Safire, or a female version of David Brooks at the NYTimes or better, George Will. Alas, no one comes to mind, which therein lies the biggest problem with the Conservative party…

  11. Holly says:

And everytime a mindless, mis/under-educated drone gets shipped off to the island of jibber-jabber, an angel gets its wings!!!

  12. matia says:

I agree on the Rachel Duffy but isn’t her husband a congressman or something and I yhink she has a lot of kids but who knows. As a conservative I was embarrased over hasselbeck.

  13. Talie says:

It’s weird that she’s leaving so fast… especially since there were reports that she was out the door months ago.

  14. MonicaQ says:

Well. At least she’s going where she’ll be fawned over. Lady at my work was all, “I’m so sad to see her go! She was so smart!”

I told her, “Obviously we did not watch the same show. Obviously.”

  15. mrgeorge says:

Good riddance! She will fit in nicely at Faux News.

  16. Sugarrbunny says:

OF course she is, where her spewing right wing factoids I’m not sure she actually understands should make her feel right at home. Here is an actual little Fox & Friends factoid Canada does not allow it to air since it reports falsehoods as actual news. They were told if they advertised as news satire like The Daily Show does they could be placed back on the air. I personally think using Fox & Friends & The Daily Show in the same category an affront to The Daily Show

  17. ViktoryGin says:

I initially spent a couple of years trying tongive this woman the benefit of the doubt. I didn’t want to fall into the seductive trap of hating the obvious conservative punching bag. (It’s a liberal conspiracy, don’t you know? *side eye*.) But like so many I found her incessantly irritating…her bull-headed, stubborn myopia that she tried to pass off as political ideology. It’s like she came to the most asinine conclusuions based on limited social experience. She probably decided to jump ship once she realized that Babs was leaving. Most have known
that Walters was likely the only thing protecting her on that show. Here’s to hoping the View gets a complete makeover. It has really devolved into such anbarassment for women who actually think.

  18. Jan says:

Thank God. Stinking racist is going home.

    • Betty says:

I am not much of an Elisabeth fan, but I’m wondering why you think she’s racist. I don’t think I’ve heard her say anything that is racist. She’s even defended Trayvon Martin, while other conservatives have defended Zimmerman. She also tends to be friends with the black co-hosts–Sherri Shepherd and Star Jones. I think that’s because they’re all Christians, though.

  19. Kiddo says:

Oh good, another place where I won’t be watching her. So many trees falling in the woods, not making a sound, at least in these ears.

  20. MsAubra says:

I’ll take Elisabeth over Rache any day

    • Inconceivable! says:

Rachel is married to a conservative Republican congressman from Wisconsin. Do people think she will be that different from Elizabeth?

      • Bridget says:

I think the suggestion of Mrs. Duffy is specifically because people know that she’s a Republican, and it would be nice to see an informed opinion for the Republican side. Personally, I cant stand Mr. Duffy’s politics and don’t know how much it runs in the family. And I don’t have a problem with Elizabeth because she’s a Conservative, I just wish she’d done a better job of informing herself about current events – but she’s not even the only View-er guilty of that.

  21. janie says:

All I can say is Yeah!!!!! I can’t stand her.. I think some of her points are valid, it’s the way she goes about it. She is so rude, obnoxious, and a lot of times has no clue what she is saying. Fox can have her, perfect fit! She should be grateful to Babara Walters considering her background ground was coming in 4th on Survivor and a degree in fashion. See ya!

    • Lisa says:

They’re all obnoxious as far as I’m concerned. Their guests must leave with sky high blood pressure, because they never get a word in edgewise. They’ll ask a question, and someone will chime in with a joke or comment, and everything gets derailed.

  22. Debbie says:

I’m about as liberal as you can get and don’t agree with her views but I will say if she was fired because of them I will be sickened and appalled. I completely disagree with her POV but she has the right to it and no one should be fired for there political party affiliation.

Now if they fired her because she was a poor representation of the conservative viewpoint and failed to articulate her view in a intelligent and respectful manner then I’m with them a thousand percent!!!

Also they should hire Rachel!! I don’t agree with her politically but I just love her. She was on my all time favorite cast of the real world and is very good at expressing her views in an intelligent and respectful manner.

Oh and can we get a liberal that can do the same because joy is just as bad as Elizabeth, Sherri is a moron and whoopie while the best also tries not to get to involved.

    • Spooks says:

I only liked Joan. Sherri is a moron ( she is a liberal? Really? ) and Whoopi lost me after the rape rape thing.

      • Lisa says:

They all have their annoying habits. Joy always tries to crack a joke, Whoopi has to do her Valley Girl thing, Sherri has to defend moms, Hasselbeck has to cry about her gluten allergy, and Babs calls the commercial breaks.

      • ViktoryGin says:

I’ve never perceived Sherri as liberal. She may vote Deomcratic but she reads as a social conservative with her homespun religiosity, albeit subtley. I think that they hired her because she’s black, not a raging liberal, and can provide some comic relief. While I don’t hate her, I’ve never thought much of her and considered her a downgrade when she was hired. Give me back Star Jones or Meredith Vieira anyday

      • Spooks says:

        *Joy. Lapsus calami.

  23. Feebee says:

Great! like Fox and Friends didn’t already serve up enough deliciousness for the likes of Jon Stewart and SNL.

The View could use an intelligent conservative but why break the habit of a lifetime?

  24. Lisa says:

““Elisabeth’s warm and engaging personality made her a star on ‘The View.’”

They’ve even got her writing her own press. Jack of all trades, this one.

  25. Kim1 says:

She won’t fit in at Fox perfectly because she is pro marriage equality and against death penalty

  26. buzz says:

    American Taliban

  27. Maggie says:

Good riddance! She’s like nails on a chalkboard.

  28. lisa says:

maybe they can hire someone to agree with whoopi who doesnt think polanski is a real rapist and that the moon landing is a hoax. and she’s still smarter than sherri.

i have no idea why this show is on the air,

  29. L.E. says:

Didn’t she become famous after she was on Survivor? I think she was a shoe designer or something like that. The qualification for news is really low these days. Am I getting her mixed up with someone else?

  30. moo says:

good for her. she’ll fit right into that self righteous group of haters!!!

  31. Jayna says:

I give her credit. She wasn’t as strident and judgmental the last two years or so. She seems to support gay rights. Will that openmindedness on that subject be poisoned by that group now that she’s getting a paycheck from them?

  32. Stanhope says:

Buh bye itch. Now I can watch the show again. She was just too annoying for morning TV. Now she is with the crazies with entitlement issues.
