Prince William isn’t giving the Middletons any money, People’s royal source claims

I don’t know what to make of this. Us Weekly reported earlier this week that William was going to be dipping into his inheritance (left to him by his late mother) to help fund a new estate for his in-laws, Carole and Michael Middleton. The situation gave me a bad feeling, like the Middletons were playing a long con that was slowly paying off. I should note too that Us Weekly didn’t start the rumor/story – it was widely reported in the British press, both tabloid and legit. The Telegraph (one of the more respected papers) spoke to one of William’s friends, who said, “William regards them as family and is always keen to help, in any way he can.” The Telegraph also noted that the Middletons were “close to closing” on the new manor and they hadn’t even put their old estate on the market yet. The paper also noted that the manor comes with “outbuildings” which the Middletons were looking to convert into “accommodation for the protection officers who accompany the Duke and Duchess when they visit.” Except none of it is true? Maybe. Well, I do think the Middletons are buying this manor, but People Magazine claims William isn’t helping them out:

His late mother Princess Diana may have left him more than $16 million for his 30th birthday last week, but Prince William is not about to dip into the fortune – at least, not to buy a home for himself and wife Kate.

And, despite some reports to the contrary, he also has no plans to help his in-laws, Michael and Carole Middleton, buy their $7 million dream manor house in Bucklebury, about 55 miles west of London.

With their purchase of the seven-bedroom property, complete with tennis court on its 18 acres, set to be completed, a royal source tells PEOPLE it is not true William is helping to fund any of it.

The source does say that William and Kate, also 30, are happy with their current living arrangements, which has them living in a four-bedroom house on Anglesey in north Wales and a small cottage at Kensington Palace.

“They have two residences in Wales and Kensington Palace, and that is not about to change,” says the source.

Still, the royal couple will have to wait some time to forge ahead with moving into their more upscale digs at Kensington Palace. Surveyors and other experts are not able to get to go into apartment 1A (former home to the Queen’s sister, the late Princess Margaret) until September.

After that comes the long process of refashioning the palace and decorating it to the couple’s specifications.

[From People]

I don’t understand that non-specific denial – “They have two residences in Wales and Kensington Palace, and that is not about to change.” No one said that William and Kate were helping the Middletons buy the property because they (Will and Kate) wanted to live there. William isn’t buying a residence for HIMSELF. This story remains very sketchy, I think.

More royal news… sort of. There’s a British artist named Bambi who made a “stencil on canvas” art piece of William and Kate. I’m including a photo of the piece below – it shows Will and Kate on the day of their engagement announcement, and Bambi has included the words, “A bit like marmite.” Well, the work of art was just sold… to Brad Pitt. Apparently, Brad paid thousands of dollars for it. Brad loves the modern stuff, and he reportedly loves Bambi too – he allegedly bought other Bambi pieces of The Queen and Amy Winehouse too.

Are they conveniently forgetting the other two residences he has in Scotland?

Two seconds out of the gate!

I am in awe of those in the coterie that complain repeatedly about the Duchess’s meaningless existence, her lack of friends and lack of work. Somehow they can balancce work, friends and life with an obsessive almost morbid memory of everything this woman has ever done, said and worn and an incessent need to repeat it over and over as comments to an anonymous blog.

      • christinne says:

2 seconds outta the gate and you jump to help poor Katie…..wipe the brown nose….

      • Mich says:

I’m awed by the fact that you are on a gossip site and seemingly click through on stories just to disparage the people who comment on them. It is the very definition of trolling.

If you don’t like these stories or the comments they generate, don’t click on them.

      • LAK says:

I apologise, did you want to go first?

      • badrockandroll says:

Let me modify my previous comment. Apparently, the morbid memory of the coterie does not extend to include the comments of other posters. I have no idea where this “brown nose” thing has come from. One can dislike kate, admire her or pity her, I suppose. I’m in the latter camp, although it is possible that because I have also expressed my confusion that such an innert figurehead could ignite such vitriol, my comments could be interpreted as fandom by those who live in a black and white world. My last post was a few days ago, and it was critical of the royal family. How that is interpreted as blind cheerleading is beyond me. (And by the way, the brownnosing thing is just as lame as the “you must be jealous thing”).

In between the time of my last post and this one, how many posts have you written about Kate LAK? Christinne? Angelic20? Have any of you commented on any topic other than Kate? Do any of you want to offer an alternate definition of obsessive? And that my observations are called trolling, after I am accused of brownnosing, is truly rich. Then someone clairvoyently guesses (incorrectly) my citizenship! That I am a citizen of the Commonwealth would surely disturb your stereotypes, so I must be an American, is that the logic?

Once upon a time Celebitchy and its readers comments was a fun, witty and balanced website. Now it is ridiculously ad hominem, with no tolerance for dissenting opinions or nuance. Too bad.

      • GoodCapon says:

        +1 for you Mich :D

      • GoodCapon says:

Is it really called obsessive if one is just knowledgeable in the royal family and everything that it offers? I’ve seen LAK post a lot in other articles. So she posts more often in the Kate section, much like some posters spend their time in the Angelina/Aniston threads, would you really call them obsessive? What if they just happened to be more knowledgeable/interested in that particular person? Besides I’ve learned a lot of RF history from the regular posters here (LAK, Sachi etc) they’re my favorite kind of history buffs. You yourself are narrow-minded and live in a black and white world if you’re all going to lump them into one category.

And it’s just so strange… I was a long-time lurker here at CB and I SWEAR I never recall anybody putting out the ultimate “Celebitchy used to be fun, now it’s all just full of haters boo-hoo” in the Aniston/Jolie threads and it’s more vicious there than in the Kate threads… then Kate wore Diana’s ring and suddenly people felt the need to defend the woman-child from her critics. It’s a very magical ring, I tell you.

      • Sachi says:

badrockandroll – You mean you haven’t been to any of the Brangelina-Aniston threads here on Celebitchy?

Because the posts there were more extreme than what you would ever read here about Kate.

Celebitchy is always a fun website, but it can also be extreme. You just have to pick your topics.

And if you don’t like what’s going on in posts about Kate, scroll on.

Lamenting about the website is no use when Celebitchy is one of the more neutral websites that invite discussions and debate, not blind disdain or blind adoration, about royals.

As long as nobody is wishing ill or harm on Kate and the royals, what is the problem about criticizing them?

Should we all feel sorry for Kate because the position she’s chased, and waited for, for 10 years puts her in the public eye and attracts criticism? Are the other royals fair game but not her? Why not?

By that logic, we should all feel sorry for Camilla and the vitriol directed towards her.

And yet people have been more severe when it comes to calling her names and comparing her to dogs and horses, destroying her character, and even wishing terrible things to happen to her that people don’t wish upon Kate, all because Camilla was the 3rd person in Diana’s marriage.

But, Kate wears nice clothes and Diana’s ring, and so people rush out to defend her as if she’s in mortal danger and as if the words of anonymous posters in the World Wide Web can actually hurt her feelings and make her cry. She didn’t make it to where she is now by being gentle, kind, and shy. She must be cunning, ruthless and manipulative to live among the nobility for 10 years and survive. Criticisms about her on the internet are peanuts. She’s probably heard worse things said behind her back by the very people (aristocrats) whose group she and her family desperately want to belong.

      • LAK says:

@Badrockandroll – There have been many stories recently about the RF and i have posted in each and every one of them. Not just about Kate. In case you haven’t noticed, the RF have been out and about for the past month. They will go back into the cupboard soon, so i presume the RF threads will stop. My comments tend to stick to the PR bs and the historical aspects rather than the personal and as i have said many times that is what i am interested. Why does it irk you that my interest is RF rather than eg Kim K or Brangelina?

I like coming to CB to discuss the RF and the history they represent or is past, and people may or may not take issue with my opinions and freely get into a discussion with me or challenge my opinions. I presume they have a similar interest.

I have never once called out someone’s nationality as a reason for them NOT to comment or have an opinion on the subject. Similarly, i do not think that others who are not British/commonwealth are uninformed about the RF and the history.

I have never disparaged other regular posters whose particular interests are different from mine or even if they are the same as mine.

As for your point about a counter point, there isn’t one because despite all the different stories the media/pr puts out, the basic problem remains the same. Just as the point about eg Lilo or Halle never changes. Are the people who continually pointing out the discrepancies in those threads obsessive and unable to live their lives?

      • bluhare says:

LAK: That was one of the greatest responses ever. Beautifully done!

      • SISI says:

Well said!! – It’s remarkable, isn’t it?! …So many self-appointed hardnosed judges and experts …Hmmm.
Well, here is an Umbrella … for the downpur!!!

      • christinne says:

I;ve written two posts on Kate. So shut up sit down and chill…

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

Please tell what new things the Kate supporters are saying on this very anonymous blog?? She is pretty ,wears nice clothes ,shiny hair , in love with husband , normal blah blah blah ,the same things they have been saying for more then a year. She is 30 years old woman that people like to call a girl and treat her like a delicate Disney princess . So all the Kate fans only have her looks to talk about post after post because there is nothing more to her then that .

People who criticize her are British citizens or from commonwealth mostly .For us she is a public figure ,so yes we judge her differently and being a american you can’t understand that . For example , How do you feel about o
Obama ? Does your feeling about his policies or work change after every time you see news or read something about him? Just as your idea or complains about his presidency do not change after every time you read or listen about him ,the same way whatever Kate do or did not do remains same as a result we say the same things .

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

I never post on other celebrities because for me they are private citizens who earn their money and can do whatever they want to with it and their lives . The reason i post on Kate is because she is my future state head , a public figure . If you can’t make a difference between her and normal celebrities then there is no point arguing with you . Royal Family is an un elected constitution in England , so we don’t get a vote or a say in who will be our state head . That is one of the reasons people usually have strong opinions on them because we only get to have our opinions and not a right to choose and it has nothing to do with been obsessed . When she was a private citizen before engagement i always kept my opinions about her to myself which is not the case today . I also comment on various political sites and blogs because they are my politicians and i am more concerned with public figures who run or represent my country rater then some movie or pop star. On the other hand Americans obsession with her is more amusing because she have no talent or any other quality that will make her stand out , for them she should be a girl that married a rich and famous man but still they frown over her as if one day she will save the world or something . I hope now you would be able to understand why lak or me or British posters like to post about her and not other celebrities.

    • bluhare says:

Oh my. And here I was just thinking what great threads the royal ones are, because there are people here who actually know their stuff, and their posts aren’t full of wild conjecture and speculation. Not that none is done; I mean, what would be the fun of gossip sites if we couldn’t speculate?

So post on, knowledgeable posters! I will tag along right after you. Except now I’m having almost a morbid thrill thinking about timing the first post on a Kardashian, Rimes or Anijolie thread.

      • LAK says:

do you know what is funny about her comment? I posted at lunch because i am leaving the office early. Yea! so i thought i should look on CB. Didn’t realise i was the first comment. That has never happened.

Perhaps she wanted to post first.

      • bluhare says:

LAK: I did actually try to be first once! Didn’t work as I’m on permanent moderation here (no idea why either). At least this site isn’t full of people shouting “FIRST!” on every thread.

And I think most people here are great.

  2. DailyNightly says:

Mama Middleton is going to be pissed when she hears about this!

  3. MBGB says:

Geez, who cares? Plenty of ordinary people help their relatives by giving them money or other material support. So William has a bundle and maybe he’s helping his in-laws get a bigger place so he and the misses have a little more privacy when they visit. BFD

If this was Barack Obama helping his mother-in-law out by getting her some nicer digs, everyone would be falling all over themselves saying what a wonderful son-in-law he is.

Oh, wait. Obama did do that. He installed Moochelle’s mum in the White House.

    • mayamae says:

Please tell me why you refer to the FLOTUS as “Moochelle”.

      • D1 says:

Perhaps MBGB is a cow and has difficulty pronouncing “M” sounds without letting out a moo. Let’s not pick on her, o.k.? Speech impediments are no laughing matter.

      • MBGB says:

Happy to. Suggest you Google “Michelle Obama Martha’s Vineyard”, “Michelle Obama Costa Del Sol” , “Michelle Obama Aspen”, “Michelle Obama Hawaii”.

        For starters.

Sorry, but when you give speeches telling Americans that they have to pay more in taxes because times are really tough for others, you can’t use THOSE SAME TAX RECEIPTS to fly yourself–and your friends–off on vacations.

And don’t bother replying that they pay for this themselves, because that is 100% bullish*t and everyone knows it.

      • JulieM says:

MBGB: You may want to google “The Bushes fly to their phony pig ranch in Crawford, Texas” 800 times because that’s where he spent almost literally half of his presidency.

Interesting how it bothers some people that Repug presidents are entitled to Air Force One, but Demo presidents are abusing it.

Red State much. You may be very disappointed in November.

    • JulieM says:

Um, “Moochelle’s” mother did live in the White House for a while after the Obamas moved in. I believe she’s been back in Chicago for some time now.

      Red State much?

    • L says:

Having your mom help with your kids and her getting to spend time with her grandkids is ‘installing her in the white house’? Really? It’s not like her made her chief of staff and is paying her a salary-she’s part of the family. Eisenhower did the same thing.

And if that’s a power trip, heck-my grandmother was in the army as she helped my mom when my dad was deployed.

I’m going to just roll my eyes at the “moochelle” line. You keep it classy.

    • T.C. says:

So your mother in law moving in to your house to help take care of her grand children in a stressful bew situation is the same thing as trying to manipulate $7 Million from Will to build a new fancy house you likely don’t need? His lawyer wife giving up a high paid job to be a stay at home mom/wife while her husband runs the country is side-eyed? Lol. Obama haters always find a stupid reason to criticize him and his family. Republicans doing same is seen as family values. You all are so filled of stupid hate.

    • Mich says:

Wow. You are either sheltered or a mooron…

    • flan says:

      Obsessed about Obama much, geez.

    • Liz says:

MBGB is a classless, racist idiot. Wow.

      • MBGB says:

No critical thinking allowed in your world, so you fling out “racist”.

How unoriginal. And typical. In your set, there’s only one way–Obama worship–and anyone who doesn’t drink your Kool Aid is a racist.

Lefties can’t play ball on the battlefield of ideas, so you are reduced to name calling. Same sh*t, different day.

Sticks and stones. See you in November.

      • JulieM says:

MBGB: Keep digging. Your set is the one that got us in to this mess in the first place.

    • AnneOriginal says:

Well someone is sharing a brain with Limbaugh. That is never a good thing.

No wonder Waity’s legs look so toned, she has to do squats everytime she has to curtsy for the queen.

She has really good legs. No Snark.

      • Sisi says:

I certainly wouldn’t mind having her calves

      • clawless kitty says:

Toned legs? Are you lot blind? She’s shrunk to a third of her previously slim frame. She’s on the Ana train just like Diana before her. She should get ring of the magic ring wills gave her.

      • clawless kitty says:

Toned legs? Are you lot blind? She’s shrunk to a third of her previously slim frame. She’s on the Annna train just like Diana before her. She should get ring of the magic ring wills gave her.

    • flan says:

I must give her that she has some awesome curtsy skills. If that was me on those high heels in that position, I would lie in the grass in a second.

    • JulieM says:

      Sisi, great comment.

I am now putting out a snark alert for all the Waity fan girls here.

In that curtsey picture, Waity is doing it wrong. Did you know that there is a right way and a wrong way to curtsey? The right foot goes behind the left heel. Waity is doing it the opposite way. My source? I broke down and bought the Newsweek Special Commemorative Issue for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. On pages 84-85, there is a hilarious send up of what to do and NOT do in the presence of the Queen. Good information for us Yanks, who would have no idea and would probably start an international incident!

Oh, and if you’re not the Queen Mother (who is deceased), you better get your ass out of that chair when Her Majesty enters the room.

      • bluhare says:

Oh no! I do it wrong too!

      • JulieM says:

Well, get it right, bluhare!! Wink, wink.

Jeez, I’d fall straight on my ass.

      • SISI says:

..Perhaps the photograph does not show well but Kate is curtseying correctly (bending both legs with her leading foot slightly forward and the left behind)

      • JulieM says:

Sisi: Unless the photo is a mirror image, the right foot goes behind the left foot. So the left foot should be the leading one. Nice knee flex, though.

      • SISI says:

Sorry, but you are wrong – there is no such requirement for only the left foot to be the leading one. I’ve seen many royals curtseying with the right foot leading and the left foot behind, same as Kate (see recent pictures of Charlene of Monaco curtseying to the Queen, and Beatrice curtseying to the Queen at Ascot). Kate does it beautifully though – nice knee flex, I agree.

  5. Jacq says:

I think it’s a combination of things… The Middleton’s need a certain kind of space for when William & Kate visit (should they ever actually stay there, I guess) and I think that they ought to be living to a certain level as parents to the future queen. If they were regular working-class people, I don’t think an upgrade would cause such a stink. Bottom line: it’s Williams’s money to do with as he sees fit. I think he has relationships with the Middleton’s that take up empty space from his childhood. And even if they were scheming for years, I don’t see the (very) long con going beyond just getting her married in – being fronted money for a new manse seems like icing on the cake.

    • GoodCapon says:

I’m not saying the Middletons aren’t allowed to upgrade their lifestyle, but the other in-laws didn’t feel the need to do a ‘keeping up with the Joneses’ when their daughters respectively married into the royal family. It’s things like this that makes it hard for them to distance themselves away from the ‘aggressive social climbers’ image.

The other in-laws got on with their lives. The Middletons seem to have made it a point to let everyone know that Kate’s 10 years’ of hard work have paid off and that they finally have climbed to the pinnacle of the social ladder.

  6. JulieM says:

I agree, sounds like a non-denial denial to me too. I simply don’t believe that the Middies have so much money from selling plastic choking hazards and landfill junk to kids. Something is just not right. Uncle Gary anyone?

    • Karen says:

Love your comment, choking hazards and landfill junk= hilarious. I’ve wondered the same thing too, I mean how many freaking parties can they have in a year in the tiny islands of GB, to warrant making soooo much money.

      • iseepinkelefants says:

And how many of these people would rather order online and wait for it to ship rather than going to Party City or what have you?

I don’t see how one can be millionaires off of such a site (but then again many say that they made their million by selling their customers information).

    • bluhare says:

It could be Uncle Gary. Wouldn’t surprise me. There’s been a few articles about how their company is worth what’s been reported when others of similar size are doing nowhere near as well. I blindly believed the stories of their wealth, now I wonder.

However, the denial just says William isn’t helping them. Maybe he’s outright buying it. Or maybe he is providing the money for the remodel that will have to be done for the security systems and protection officers that will be needed when they visit. Seeing as the story came from The Telegraph, it should have more veracity than some of the more down market tabs. William, however, has been known to say things to friends that are not true to test their trustworthiness. So maybe someone who thought he was a friend now isn’t.
Also, it’s been reported the Queen gave William a cottage on the Sandringham estate as a 30th birthday present.

      • LAK says:

This has been such a marie antoinette week for William and Kate, hasn’t it? It’s just been money! money! money! that they have and the public don’t. It’s no wonder they needed to distract us with that curtseying story.

      • bluhare says:

LAK: We knew the worm would turn. The coverage was so glowing at first that there had to be a dark side.

I think it’s just that people are disappointed that the new People’s Princess isn’t being so peopley. I know I am. I was looking forward to someone with a personality entering the royal family. Apparently, we’ll have to wait for Harry to propose to Chelsy.

      • mayamae says:

        Bluhare –

Please don’t jump all over me but I have an honest question. To me Chelsy Davy seems very much like a Sarah Ferguson. At first everyone would adore her and then the press will turn on her criticizing what they praised before.

Forgive me but I know very little about her. She looks kind of skanky to me like she spends all her life tanning, drinking, smoking, and partying. Fergie was a great deal of fun too until she let her boyfriend start sucking on her toes. They seem very similar, but I admit I am being very superficial in my comparison.

Is there a similarity or do I simply dislike this girl?

      • angelic 20 says:

Chelsy is originally from south Africa . She started dating Harry when she was 19 yrs old, she completed her graduation from south Africa while having a long distance relationship with him. After her graduation she moved to London and got admission in Leeds university. She is a lawyer now working for one of the top law firms in England . She did all of this while media following her and she also have millions in trust find from her parents. All these years she never talked to the media or tipped the paparazzi or gave any crouch shots to them. Media never ever gave her a moniker unlike waity Katie, there were never any negative stories about her other then her family connections. Media were only able to point out that she likes to party but that should not be considered as bad because unlike Kate she did other things along with the parties. It was reported that she broke up with Harry because she did not want to be a royal and give up her independence and privacy. So now you everything about her, she was born rich, worked hard on her education and carrier and is an independent woman who did absolutely nothing to humiliate Harry or royal family. So no she is nothing like duchess of pork and if she ever choose to marry Harry she will give do little a run for her money because tabloids cannot erase the fact that she is intelligent and independent woman who actually achieved something in her life on her own and have a life beyond her boyfriend . So no I don’t think she is anything like duchess of pork if you can see beyond her looks.

      • bluhare says:

Maeamay: I actually never thought much about Chelsy, but obviously Harry does. But, like Kate, we don’t know much about her either so she might be great. At least she works!! The other issue with Chelsy is her family’s ties to Mugabe. Not sure she’d be a popular choice from a political point of view.

But her coverage would turn as well, from sunny breath of fresh air who gets along great with Bea and Eug to hung over chainsmoking Chels. It always does, doesn’t it?

      • Henry says:

@mayamae: I totally agree with you on Chelsy. I don’t read much news on her, but what i do read/see, I dont really like. She looks skanky to me as well, and seems to just be another typical party-girl – drinking, tanning, smoking etc.

I really dont see any difference between her and Kate. Except Kate likes keeping up image and appearances in public, Chelsy doesnt seem to be like that.

People only like two main things about her – 1. she broke up with Harry cause she doesnt want a royal life – then why did she even get togetehr with him in the first place? 2. she has a law degree. and works.. at a job apparently through her family connections.

I really dont see what is there to admire about her. Add to the fact her parents’ connections to Mugabe. and I just cant imagine her marrying into the royal family and doing charity work with Harry – she lacks warmth to me.

Like why cant these royal men find regular, well-behaved women? I suspect people put her on a pedestal when comapring her to Waity. In that sense, she is a ton better than Waity. But compared to the average female, I personally dont get what’s the big deal about her.

    • fairy godmother says:

      @ JulieM-
Choking hazards & landfills- the funniest thing I have read/heard for the day!
      Excellent post!
Wish there was some way to give you a thumbs up or star for best post!

    • JulieM says:

Thanks all; I’ve been saving up the choking hazard thing for a little while.

What’s really ironic is that Waity’s father-in-law, The Prince of Wales has been a long crusader against trashing and clogging up the environment. Say what you want about Charles and how badly he treated Diana, but he has been quite vocal in this matter, much to the consternation of many. Another pet peeve of his is genetically modified food.

And yes, Charles has been accused of hypocrisy as he lives high on the hog.

      • bluhare says:

I rather hoped Camilla might unstuff Charles a bit, she obviously has in private! That being said, Charles was positively prescient about organic farming, and I do admire him for making Highgrove a going organic concern.

So yes, he’s a bit of a bore, but he’s not been wrong in everything, that’s for sure.

  7. Roma says:

I would expect they over tapped themselves with the wedding and continuing to fund Pippa’s quest for nobility. But no one wants to paint the future Queen Consort with the cheap brush so William is helping to uplift their status.

And yes, I think that has been their plan all along.

  8. T.C. says:

Taking the time to correct this story means some of it is true. Why does the firm care?

  9. Luise says:

    Wake up William.

  10. GoodCapon says:

I know People mag is like the unofficial sounding board of Hollywood celebrities, but does it apply to the Royal Family as well? I just wonder who these “royal sources” are. Katie Nicholl? LOL :D

  11. bagladey says:

Call me uppity but I think if you’re not needy it’s low-class to take money from your son-in-law no matter how rich he is.

  12. flan says:

Why does Carole always look so conniving?

It’s like some 19th century British novel. The evil matriarch, with the one clueless daughter and the other more conniving one, all looking for good prospects in marriage.

    • Mich says:

“It’s like some 19th century British novel.”

The titled dupe, the conniving matriarch, the sister social climber and the innocent (sometimes vacuous) beauty.

THIS is EXACTLY why I love this ongoing, timeless story!

Thank you for summing it up perfectly!!

    • LAK says:

they’ve literally dragged us back in time to a history lesson from tudor times.

      • Nancy Blue says:

If the Middletons have managed to close down Enclave 24, the brilliant Miss 24 should publish the blog as a book. It would be a global success as so well researched and astute. Might have to publish it abroad though!

  13. The Original Mia says:

Why deny what isn’t true unless there is a whiff of truth to it? Just saying…

  14. Sachi says:

Of course People magazine would claim the opposite of what the British papers have been publishing – People repeatedly puts Kate on their cover even though it’s been revealed that Kate’s face on US magazines doesn’t sell.

She’s a bust when it comes to the US magazines. People magazine is the only one left that keeps on shoving her to the public hoping they will take to her.

Ironic, since People is more respectable than Us weekly in general, and yet Us weekly actually got its news from legitimate British papers and People scrambled to make a denial once the news started hitting the internet and spreading, and had to put out their own version of things.

Sounds like there is fire where there is smoke. They doth protest too much.

Why does People care if William is helping the Middletons buy a house? Why does a US-based magazine care which is truth or not? Do they have an investment in William and Kate?

Why would they care to issue a denial when every other paper seems to be investigating it, not even taking a side, but only publishing information? What does People have to gain by publishing their own denial on William and Kate’s behalf and seemingly taking the royals’ side on this?

It all sounds suspicious, especially the timing of the denial. This news has been out in the British papers for 2 weeks. It wasn’t until Us weekly, a US magazine, came out with it that People countered with their own. They’re the only magazine/press to have issued a denial claiming it’s directly from a royal source.

Is People magazine afraid the fairy tale about William and Kate will be shattered?

Are we to believe that People actually has a royal source that they can call anytime to clarify things for them? Kate and William’s PR-team maybe. LOL

  15. Amy says:

I like the Kate stories but can you also cover other royals too? For example, Charlotte Casiraghi (yes I know technically she has no title but Albert has no legitimate children yet so Caroline’s children might inherit the throne if he and Charlene have no kids) dumped her long time boyfriend and started dating a much older French celebrity earlier this year. I thought that was interesting and really random!

    • Sachi says:

Nothing’s going on with Charlotte, though. At least, not much, except her relationship with that French actor.

And I’ll be honest, I’m not impressed with Caroline’s kids. If I remember correctly, both Charlotte and Pierre Casiraghi never finished University. Pierre dropped out. Charlotte didn’t finish her degree.

Both have no jobs, and are just living the jet-set lifestyle of luxury and excess.

I don’t know what’s interesting about them lately. Is Andrea still studying? Is Charlotte still riding and competing?

Their creepy uncle Albert is tabloid fodder enough. :D

    • bluhare says:

And I love reading about Princess Charlene and her ongoing quest for freedom!! I read a blind item not too long ago that seemed to point to them.

    • Mich says:

Hearted. I would love to see more skinny on the druggy, beautiful one – Andrea.

    • GoodCapon says:

I’m not too fond of Gad looks-wise, but she seems happy with him so *shrug*

      Charlene might be preggers

  16. Reece says:

I find it interesting that they went to a US tab…Brit papers aren’t buying anymore?

  17. Tansey says:

Being a royal seems like so much responsibility and work. You have to keep up a perfect public image and participate in a TON of public appearances, it just seems like such a busy, busy life. I’m the type of person who likes to chill out at home in my PJ’s, curl up on the couch with my little dog and a good book, and just relax. My husband works hard all day and doesn’t really feel like going out unless it’s his day off, so our lives are pretty boring, lol. I don’t know if KM married for love, fame or money, but whichever it is, I give her kudos for being able to keep up with living the royal life. I wouldn’t be able to do it.

*My comment was OT, I know.

    • flower says:

The more you know about the Royal life style and rules the more you realize why the smart one’s (Williams ex’s, Chelsea, Diana’s sister)said no thanks. I really makes you wonder about Kate, either she is head over heels in love and happy to be under Williams thumb for the rest of her life, is a very smart, patient and dedicated gold digger/social climber or is just plain dumb…… perhaps all of the above.

As I said in the previous ‘William giving money to the Middletons’ thread I don’t think the helping out with money story was true at all. More likely that William William is paying for the new security staff annex, as he should. They may have a lot of money but the Royals are also notoriously tight fisted.

    • SISI says:

It’s not for the faint-hearted – that’s for sure!! Before marrying William, Kate endured 8 years of petty, catty comments by people she never met nor harmed in any way. She must be madly in love with him and be very brave to take on this very demanding, always-on-duty role for life (where it seems that divorce is not an option). Why else would she put herself in this position where she is constantly scrutinised & viciously criticized for her background, her looks, her clothes, her weight, and any other thing people can possibly come up with (the very people she has pledged to serve). She could have lived a wealthy, privileged normal life without all the royal duties, huge responsibilities and many sacrifices that come with being the wife of a future king of Britain & the Commonwealth, and mother of a future king or queen.

  18. telesma says:

I was under the impression that her parents were wealthy in their own right and had no need of financial assistance from the royal family or anyone else.

And even if that were not the case, I expect having a daughter married into the royal family could become quite an expensive proposition over time. I wouldn’t judge them if they did need some assistance.

  19. maemay says:

Honestly out of all the U.S. tabloids People is THE most trustworthy. It is where the major stars go to break good news for publicity and break bad news to control publicity.

I am surprised that royalty would use People in the same manner Brangelina and TomKat use people.

Regarding our tabloids they are useless and rarely report any REAL gossip instead they report easy spoon fed payola gossip such as the Kardashians.

Unfortunately for fans of true gossip People is the only choice.

    • LAK says:

i have always said this. ie that the RF isn’t above putting stories in tabloids although they try to keep it classy with choice of tabloids but i think people view them with rose spectacles meaning it is literally an unbelievable concept to them.

that is not to suggest that they have done it this time, but it is something they do from time to time.

    • arlie says:

Maemay, TomKat is officially over. You heard it here first.

  20. arlie says:

I would just like to say thank you to Sachi, LAK, Angelic20, bluhare, and others for all your smart, well-thought-out comments here. I really enjoy mostly lurking and reading this page, which I check every few days. However, I don’t participate much because it doesn’t seem to be very interactive. I don’t even know if you’ll see this comment, but I hope so. Keep it up!

    • LAK says:

@Airlie – Thank you so much for those kind words. May i add that i find your comments really insightful as well.

In general terms, i find unexpected, smart information and opinions on CB from generally well informed people on unexpected threads.

I would never have thought it possible from a public forum that was set up to snark on celebrities.

So thank you and thanks to all other posters.

And in the words of the immortal Kate,

Thank uummm you uumm CB uummm Kaiser uuummm and everyone at uummm Celebitchy.

      • GoodCapon says:

Thank you *reads script* Celebitchy for *reads script* putting the spotlight *reads script* back on *reads script* great gossip *reads script* Thank you.

    • bluhare says:

Back atcha arlie! Actually the royal threads have been going gangbusters this past week or so!

      • arlie says:

@ LAK & Bluhare: I’m so glad you both saw my comment! You’re most welcome, and thank you! Yes, the Royal threads are exploding. I can’t even keep up with Royal Dish anymore. The Middletrashes are certainly the most controversial family to ever enter the RF. I can’t help but muse on the other Royal inlaws and how low-key and dignified they have behaved compared with the crimbing, clawing, grasping Middletons.

For an example, just look to Autumn Phillips (nee Kelly), and her well-behaved Canadian family. Do you ever see the Kellys in the news for trying to impose themselves on the RF in such blatant, low-class ways? Even once? And what about Zara’s inlaws, and Sophie’s for that matter? Not even a single rumour (that I know of) of social climbing and taking advantage of their position and relations to the RF.

The Middletrashes look very much like white trash in comparison. I really dislike calling anyone names like that, but it’s so true in their case. It’s beyond my comprehension how the RF and their PR hacks can’t see this. But as one poster said, it’s impossible to ever understand that family. It’s not just that they’re not like us, it’s like they’re from another planet — aliens whose motives we will never understand.

Keep up the great posts, ladies!

    • ANGELIC 20 says:

arlie thankyou , so glad to know that at least some people can understand my English and i absolutely agree with you about Middleton family. i hope you join us for discussion next time.

  21. Carletonart says:

I find it quite perplexing that Americans have turned into the biggest royal watchers going! You seem to more concerned about their spending than us Canadians, when it costs you nothing!
According to the latest figures out of Buckingham Palace, while Canadians are shelling out $1.53 per capita, the British are only paying about $1.32. And the Monarchist League’s own numbers show the Canadian cost is skyrocketing. Over just the last 10 years, the per capita bill for supporting the monarchist framework— including expenses incurred by the royal clan on Canadian soil, as well as the cost of running the offices of the Governor General and our 10 provincial lieutenant-governors—has more than doubled.
    Not hating at all.

    • bluhare says:

Maybe it’s easier for those in the US because the US doesn’t pay. Me? I’m British living here, so I get best of both worlds.

      • Carletonart says:

@bluhare. Just an observation. I just find it funny that Canadian press/blogs only discuss spending right before an after a royal visit. Even then it’s a non -issue.
