Oscar Fashion: Hilary Swank is a sparkly gray peacock in Gucci

Both Kaiser and I have mixed feelings about Hilary Swank’s Gucci Premiere strapless gown with a long dip-dyed feather train. Kaiser gives Hilary credit for looking less horsey with her styling as usual, and she likes the top of the gown, as do I. On camera this dress looked decent but in photos the different shades of gray on the bottom look muddy and seem to emphasize how feathers have no place on a dress that’s sequined on top.

What’s more is that Hilary presented at the Oscars, for Best Director, and that she went to the Vanity Fair Oscar party afterwards but didn’t change up her dress. I know it’s petty to point that out when a woman is rocking a dress that’s probably worth six figures, but it’s the damn Oscars – the dresses are free and the designers are throwing them at you. Switch it up for the after parties. Also, this needs accessories like some earrings and a bracelet. All she’s wearing is a ring!

I’ll say something nice – I like her makeup, and she had a nice jewel in her hair you couldn’t see. That hair needs to go. She had some beautiful loose curls at the SAG Awards. What happened?

What was Justin Bieber doing in a dress?

Okay I will say something nice.

That is a nice ring she has on.

But she needed a nice pair of understated earrings.

  2. dread pirate cuervo says:

I loved this dress but it def needs earrings. Do diamonds come in light grey? B/c big princess cut studs in maybe smoky quartz would look great with it.

  3. merski says:

I actually thought this dress is really nice and appropriate for the occasion.
Of course, there is no such high-fashion in this world that could turn the attention away from her face… o_0

  4. guesty says:

thought this dress should’ve been worn by someone taller.

  5. Quest says:

I did not like this dress on Hilary, her hair and lack of accessories only accentuated her teeth

  6. devilgirl says:

I like the dress. It is an Oscar type dress. I watched Million Dollar Baby for the 3 rd time yesterday and she was excellent. Love that movie!

O/T- Kaiser, have you seen the latest Galliano rant about loving Hitler? Someone filmed his anti-semitic crap on a cell phone a week before he did the last one. He is CLEARLY an anti-semite! Disgusting!

  7. Cherry Rose says:

Gah! The close-ups always kill me. She looks much better from afar.

    Her gown was…interesting.

  8. brin says:

I thought she looked good, especially her makeup (the makeup artists were on fire last night!).

  9. Sumodo1 says:

    She looked bony.

  10. beth says:

ooo gorgeous dress… so old school glam, and deserving of oscar night.
hilary has a lovely, androgynous face – there’s no escape from that. i dont think, to go with any ultra-feminine attire, like an evening gown, she should wear her hair in any way that emphasises her androgynousness. wearing it up is too close to having really short hair…. she should always wear her hair loose…

I really liked this one and I think she looked great in it. I’m usually not a fan of dresses cut straight across the top, or feathers, but this one works for me. And, yes, earrings would have made this look complete.

  12. sasa says:

Meh. I don’t think silver works for her, she seems to me more of a gold type (skin, hair). Speaking of hair, this one is not very flattering.

  13. Raven Sparrow says:

This seems déja vu. Didn’t someone wear the exact same dress but maybe in a different colour on another occasion?

  14. TXCinderella says:

I think her dress is pretty and it looks good on her. She could have used some pretty chandelier earrings though.

  15. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

I found the lack of accessories insulting!

It woulda been a better look for sure.

  16. Marie says:

Still looks like a tranny to me.

  17. Abby says:

This dress was so pretty when she moved though!

  18. Corina says:

Angie Harmon recently wore a pink dress that was similar, & Penelope Cruz wore a pink dress that was very similarly feathery to the Oscars in 2007 I think? Not sure if that’s what this reminds me of but I def recognize this dress from another celeb wearing it like Raven Sparrow said…

  19. Jane says:

I’ve seen this style of dress too many times over the years just in different colors, its boring nothing new or special about it.

  20. spinner says:

    Just NO!!

  21. serena says:

No way she rocks that dress. First of all the second half of the dress is terrible.. and yes, she needed some jewels and some more colour on her eyes.

Anyway she should put on more weight, those arms are too muscle.

  22. kelbear says:

I would approve the dress if the hair was different.

  23. Raven Sparrow says:

@Devilgirl – Regarding Galliano, yes, it’s all over the French sites. What a shitty person he turned out to be.

  24. belle epoch says:

ACK! That dress looks DIRTY on the bottom! FAIL.

She needs to dress frilly cuz she looks like a dude.

  25. Cheyenne says:

The first word that came to mind when I looked at that dress was “horsefeathers”.

  26. MSat says:

From the neck down, it’s gorgeous!

  27. Eve says:

    @ Devilgirl:

I saw that this morning and warned Kaiser about it on that Halle Berry post.

  28. umm says:

Hilz has always looked like a ‘manly’ Julia Roberts to me. And Diane Lane already did this dress to much better effect when she was nominated a few yrs ago for ‘Unfaithful’

  29. Stubbylove says:

I love the dress and she always has had a smokin’ body – but f’ing- A – please have just one moment when you’re not smiling with your HUGE horse teeth. I agree w/@ Marie – she still looks like a tranny.

  30. Alexa says:

ALRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! You are all to go to your rooms without dinner . . . and STAY THERE until tomorrow!! (Not nice comments.) I LOVE Hilary Swank and will not tolerate anyone insulting her in any way ;-)

  31. Az says:

This dress was boring. I feel like I’ve seen it a million times already. But it matches her because she seems boring as well.

  32. Camille says:

For her, I thought she looked great. I don’t hate the dress, kind of liked it actually.

  33. RJ says:

I liked this dress in the first photo but all the other photos reminded me of someone who didn’t realize their white scarf was dragging in the slush.

  34. Juu says:

    This dress is gorgeous!

  35. Maritza says:

She needed jewelry and her hair should have been let down. The dress is fine.

  36. lucy2 says:

I LOVE the top half, and then progressively less as it goes down, and at the bottom think it looks like a wet and matted sheepdog. So overall it balances out to I like it.

  37. Newbie says:

I love it. And I love the matching eye make-up. And I want her arms.

  38. Hopefully no animals were harmed in the making of that dress.
