Hilary Swank’s dress at the ‘Conviction’ screening: cute or tragic?

These are pics of Hilary Swank at last night’s screening of Conviction (promoted by The Innocence Project), the film I keep hearing about but have no interest in seeing. First, what I like: the color is gorgeous, the top half of the dress is very beautiful, and it compliments Hilary’s long neck and larger bust. I also like that she styled her hair down – she doesn’t look quite as horsey when she wears it down. The bottom half of the dress… well… I hate it. It’s cut too high, and there are a couple of photos where I swear I saw a flash of something vagina-esque. I also f-cking hate the shoes. Just standing alone, I would find them tacky, but they’re WAY too matchy-matchy with the dress. But overall, the whole effect of this is… not horrible. Not great either.

The screening wasn’t all gladiator heels and vadge-flashes, though. Sam Rockwell was there. He’s been my main crush this week. I always love a dose of Rockwell with my steady diet of Gerard and Clive and Gandy… but ever since I saw Iron Man 2, I can’t get him out of my head this week. He’s always so good when he gets to play smarmy! To me, his preening, incompetent bureaucrat-CEO was a better (and more realistic) villain than Mickey Rourke. I have no clue what’s going on with his hair, though. This hair is making him look ratty. To make up for this horrible photo of him, I’m adding some extra photos from the past month:

    tragic, especially with those shoes

  2. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

You don’t have to match every element of your outfit, you’re not Stephanie van der Kellen.

  3. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Cute and I love the shoes. Short is in and even if it is kinda short the top is very classy.

  4. esblondie says:

Yes, Sam Rockwell is hot. Maybe he can make Hot Guy Friday.

  5. Melissa says:

Agree with you on the outfit – nice color, cut way too high, and fug shoes.

Thanks for the extra pics of my little pocket rocket, though – loves me some Sam Rockwell!

  6. esblondie says:

As far as the dress goes – I think it would look TOTALLY different if the shoes were different.

  7. Eileen says:

The shoes kill it and she looks uncomfortable in it. She standing hunched because she probably thinks her bits might be showing too.

  8. I Choose Me says:

Ugh, awful dress. That thigh action is not sexy. And the shoes are fug!

Thank you Sam Rockwell for the brain cleanser. Love him.

  9. a says:

OH NO! her toes are tragic!

  10. Jojo says:

If Will from will and grace had a love child with ed norton you get that dude, Rockwell.

  11. RHONYC says:

    immediately. :-(

  12. Rachel says:

I’d like those shoes if they were gold. You’re right, they’re too matchy matchy, but if the shoes were gold, I think it would really set off the color of the dress. Paired with some chunky gold jewelry.

  13. terryo says:

Not my choice but Hilary is an incredibly beautiful woman and looks great in anything. She looks super here because she is super!

  14. sharylmj says:

waist up beautiful! waist down.. NO!!!
she looks so uncomfortable. Don’t they try these things on before they wear them? I don’t understand how these things happen.. they just do what their people tell them?

  15. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

I hate hate hate the shoes!

Her dress is ok, better than the other day anyway.

  16. Bailey says:

Tragic, her toe nails are the same color as her dress and earrings.

  17. Cheyenne says:

    Shoes — fail.

    Dress — fail.

    Hair — fail.

    Whole package — fail.

  18. devilgirl says:

    I like the shoes.

  19. danielle says:

I like the dress. Thumbs down on the matchy shoes tho. Along with the matchy earings and nail polish.

  20. Scarlet Vixen says:

I always feel like she’s trying too hard. Like, she knows how masculine her face is, and that she got famous playing a transgendered character, so she always dresses too sexy to counteract her man/horse face. But most of the time it doesn’t work–it only makes her look like a drag queen.

  21. Ellen Smith says:

Failure! What is it with these stars and their lack of style? The dress looks like a cheap (and I’m sure it is expensive) polyester number and the shoes and toenail polish are trailer trash looking (but then again, didn’t she grow up in a trailer park?)

  22. hellen says:

Scarlet Vixen said exactly what I was going to say.

  23. Ron says:

Like the dress, hate the shoes with it. It’s Garanimals matchy.

  24. Bonfire Beach says:

I guess I’m in the minority. I absolutely LOVE the shoes! They would be awesome with a neutral for a pop of color for myself. I’m just a sucker for an eye-catching sandal.

  25. Mia says:

I really love those shoes, I want them! But they don’t go with the dress. The dress is ok, but not great.

  26. aenflex says:

I love the dress, just not her horseface.

  27. lu says:

    @Jo ‘Mama’ Besser
I agree with you I hate when people do that. My mom does that and she tries to implant it into me as well.

“Black dress, black shoes. How about red shoes? C’mon hon don’t be ridiculous.” :(

  28. Tia C says:

The dress wouldn’t be so bad without those hideous shoes. When oh when will this “gladiator” sandal trend die??!! They don’t look flattering on anyone. The waistline of the dress is the weak point, but overall it’s a cute dress. I don’t know why some are criticizing her hair, i think it looks fine. Hilary is not known for being overly glam anyway.

  29. filthycute says:

    God, she’s ugly.

  30. Jezi says:

Love the dress but I think the look would be better if she paired the dress with some nude pumps instead.

  31. mj says:

Her face is her face, people, unless you’re so much prettier leave her be!

She looks great and I love that she tries different things. You rarely get the same old little black dress with her, so at least she’s interesting.

  32. Jeri says:

Hilary needs to either get a stylist or fire the one she has & get a new one. She hasn’t looked good on a carpet since way before her divorce.

  33. Stubbylove says:

Hilary’s got a hot bod. I don’t mind the dress – the shoes are fab. It really doesn’t matter what she wears though, she will always look like her character in Boys Don’t Cry to me. I know that’s terrible but it’s the truth!

  34. Crash2GO2 says:

There she goes with the too matchy matchy thing again! I suppose we should be grateful she didn’t wear blue eyeliner as well.

  35. marie says:

Thank god I am not the only person that finds her homely looking….

  36. dread pirate cuervo says:

It is tragic, as are the shoes.

  37. lala says:

i actually really like the shoes! But she shouldnt have worn blue shoes with the blue dress,,, silver or gold would have looked better…

but i would totally rock those shoes with a different outfit!

  38. michael says:

what a fuggin’ fugly dress- & don’t even get me started on those grape kool aid heels. vomit.

  39. original kate says:

i like the color of her dress but everything else is blah.

  40. wunderkindt says:

The dress is alright-the shoes suck.

  41. DrM says:

I really like it! Shoes, dress everything…great bod on Ms Hilary…

  42. Chris says:

She looks great. She also has the best smile in the business because she doesn’t have to force it. Sam Rockwell reminds me of E from Entourage.

  43. Amy says:

    I like Sam better

  44. anon says:

wow, this site is saying ‘matchy matchy’ a lot!!

  45. tyno says:

    its cool!

  46. Anti-icon says:

tragic. She doesn’t “style” herself well.

  47. neva says:

the dress i s awful – for sure. what did she think about when she put it on?!!
