Kelly Ripa admits botox use, receives injections “as much as possible”

Kelly Ripa

Here are some photos of Kelly Ripa at a recent mega-garage sale (Super Saturday 15) benefitting the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund on 7/28. I really do like Kelly and always have, but I have to admit that she pushes things a bit too far in her quest for perfection. Kelly not only has talked up her role as the “perfect wife” to husband Mark Consuelos because she does such things as serve him breakfast in bed (although I’m still convinced that perhaps they’ve negotiated a “trade” of sorts for such services), but she’s also clearly gone a bit overboard in her quest for fitness perfection. She could use another five pounds or so on that tiny frame is all I’m saying, but Kelly is still so, so cute. Now she’s admitted that she’s a Botox addict too. Is it more surprising that she uses the wrinkle-abating treatment or that she actually admits to doing so?

Kelly Ripa

At 41, Kelly Ripa looks better than most women half her age. And in a new interview she candidly admits that Botox is her secret. Unlike many stars, who claim genetics and a healthy diet is all they need, the television presenter reveals that she will use it “as much as possible.”

She told In Touch magazine: “I work out every day. I don’t overeat. I try to drink water, but I prefer wine, and when all else fails, I get Botox injected right here, right into my forehead as much as possible!”

The “Live with Kelly” host adds that she uses her children, Michael, 15, Lola, 11 and Joaquin, nine, as an indicator for when she needs a top-up from her dermatologist, celebrity favourite Dr Frederic Brandt.

She told the magazine: “It’s when my kids start asking me if I’m mad at them, and I say, ‘Why do you think I’m mad at you?’ They say it’s because I’m frowning. I go, ‘Oh no! I am? I’ll be right back!’”

Despite Ms Ripa’s enthusiasm for the line-erasing injections, Dr Brandt himself says that he is careful not to overdo it. He told In Touch that his goal is to “keep Kelly looking like Kelly.”

It is perhaps for this reason that Ms Ripa loves the doctor so much, going as far as joking that he is her “real husband.”

There is no word on what Ms Ripa’s actual husband, Mark Consuelos, thinks of that statement, but given that the couple have been married since 1996, it is pretty clear that Dr Brandt poses no real threat.

[From Daily Mail]

Honestly? I had no idea Kelly was a Botox girl. Someone really needs to tell Nicole Kidman about Dr. Brandt! It sounds like the injections really are only going into Kelly’s forehead, and it’s not overdone either by any stretch because there are no “shiny” or “bulgy” aftereffects to be seen. Also, Kelly can still move the rest of her face as these pictures clearly attest. Good job, Dr. Brandt.

She’s only 41. At 50, her face will have that unmistakable “multi-decade botox abuse” look.

    • lucy2 says:

I was thinking the same thing. Right now it might all look OK, but in 10, 20 years, who knows.

    • Choupette says:

She’d look better with a few more pounds. She is too skeletal looking. Not a surprise she’s a botox user.

      • OriginalTiffany says:

My husband was on her show and he said she was the skinniest person he had ever seen. He said it was weird how much bigger her head was than the rest of her. She was nice though, per hubby. I was in Ca at work. Typical back then.

I’m never getting botox, I’m ok with aging, all these girls start looking weird after long term usage.

Does anyone here get it and love it? Long term?

      • NYC_girl says:

I had it twice – but I was being treated for migraines. Most of the injections were in my scalp and neck, but my neurologist gave me a few small ones on my face – 2 between the eyebrows, and 2 at the top of my forehead. I didn’t want them but he said it would possibly help with the headaches. The shots hurt like a *&^#$*^. I have a deep crease on my forehead and it was nice to get rid of it for a few months, but I felt like my eyebrows weren’t moving normally. Plus, it didn’t stop the migraines. I’ve been lucky with my skin and look younger than my age (43) – and I use a product from Roc, and another retinol from Neutrogena. Don’t smoke or drink either, and have been wearing sunscreen since I was 20.

      • Jane says:

Kelly could use a complete makeover from a different hairdo to more meat on her bones. Sometimes when I watch her show, I cringe when she crosses her legs for they look so skeletal. Her small, saggy breasts could also use some help. When stars get older and they amp up the botax and exercising, then it begins to look this way.

  2. RocketMerry says:

You could not tell and I applaud the fact that she is admitting to it, but I truly feel unsatisfied and disappointed by this news. Eh. Women have it hard and all that, but I wish more and more would accept their natural face and age without surgeons.

    • Aussie girl says:

I to applaud her for her honesty. I just can’t get over the pics of her bony chest. This look does not appeal to me.

      • Molly says:

She needs to get her décolletage laser peeled is what she needs to do. Good gravy! Use sunscreen, people!

      • rumbleseat says:

Seriously Molly I was thinking the exact same thing. You can tweak your face a bit here and there, but sun damage, the hands, and the neck always give your true age away. When your’re naturally that blonde/blue, you shoulda used the fake stuff and skipped the tanning bed.

      • thinlizzy says:

her chest gives away her age. Has anyone seen her bely button. Pops out like a cherry tomato :)

    • Tiffany says:

I think more celebs would accept their natural faces if AUDIENCES also accepted their natural faces. What people chose to watch feeds what gets made in the future.

When you have plastic Kardashians getting millions of viewers, and female tv anchors getting small ratings, it makes not only the “talent” but also the producers and directors push for flawless, wrinkle-free faces.

      • margaret says:

Tiffany, your comment makes a lot of sense in the grand scheme of things and certainly to celebs in general.

However, I don’t know that it necessarily applies to Kelly as she had an established career prior to joining Regis on his show — she was a successful soap actress on All My Children for several years and back then she was a healthy looking, attractive young woman. Currently she is a shadow of her former self.

  3. Jackie O says:

really like her hair in these pics.

would not be surprised if she has some kind of eating disorder, though.

    • Viv says:

Totally agree about the eating. She seems really bony and hyper about it. Cute, though.

    • Diana says:

Kelly Ripa is adorable, but I agree… her quest for perfection is a bit much. Talk about a triple type A! I worry that she has a form of anorexia and a need to control that stems from serious insecurities. she should embrace her flaws and learn to love herself for who she is, not what she looks like.

    • I'mSupposedToBeWorking says:

I love that hair too! The braids trend lately is so cute, but being 42, I don’t briad much because I’d look stupid. But this style seems more age appropriate. Or is it just me?

    • bns says:

I get that impression, too. I also get the sense that her husband cheats on her, but I don’t know why.

  4. Grasshopper says:

Her face is beautiful but her chest has always grossed me out.

    • corny says:

me too! crepey and bony at the same time…and only 41 yrs old? ew

    • Trillian says:

She needs to quit tanning. The skin on her chest looks like old leather … “better than many women half her age” my ass.

    • someone says:

AAAHHH!!! i didn’t even notice until i read your comment. dear god, why did you make me look :( :P

    • Marie Antoinette Jr. says:

That’s not pretty. She’s adorable over all, but oh my….time to stop with the low cut tops Kelly!

  5. eska says:

You do not need botox. Just stop sunbathing!

    • Seagulls says:

I was going to say: she has poison injected into her face but doesn’t seem to avoid tanning. Sun damage looks way worse to me than wrinkles do. Waaaay worse.

    • Ella says:

Yep, the sun is much more aging – I think she actually looks older than 41!

  6. zellie says:

I always get Kathie Gifford and Kelly Ripa confused. That’s mean, isn’t it?

    • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

No, both are annoying :) Kelly’s talking voice sounds like Christina Aguilera belting out that horrible santa song.

      • rumbleseat says:

Thank you. I hate them both, and Katie Couric as well.

They all have that wild-eyed Larry King I’m-going-to-keel-over-and-have-a-heart-attack-right-on-the-plaza-after-we-wrap-this-segment-on-how-to-gift-wrap-a-kitten-without-strangling-it-with-a-big-red-birthday-ribbon kind of a quality.

I need to take a tranquilizer after watching some of these people for more than five minutes. Geez.

  7. Brit says:

Ive always loved Kelly and I think she looks fabulous fitness-wise!
However I’m not a fan of the recent additions of hair extensions, Botox, birkin bags, etc. she’s always been a jersey girl and ive always liked her for that. She was relatable. It seems now a days she just seems so Hollywood…. Or more like a Real Housewife, which makes sense since she’s a fan of those shows.
I guess I just miss the old Kelly, pre-Regis’ exit

  8. Gabby says:

At least she admits it. I think it’s cruel that women even in their 50s and 60s say they’ve had no work done on their faces yet they don’t have one wrinkle (yeah you, Cindy, Christie…)

  9. Sloane Wyatt says:

With Hyper perfectionism and probable eating disorder, Kelly, for her own health, needs to pull it back a notch and put on 5 or 10 pounds.

The botox? Meh. That’s fine for HDTV big screens.

  10. lw says:

Kelly is not even remotely naturally thin. She clearly has an eating disorder, which can age your face tremendously. Of course she does botox. It shocks me that people think there are many celebs who DON’T botox, even the men. If it is done correctly (like Kelly), you don’t notice so much. Once of my best friends works in a local clinic and she says you woouldn’t belive how many soccer moms get it routinely. So why would people who are in the business of looking good be any different? Let’s stop with the “faux shock” about this.

  11. Roma says:

For some reason, I always think Adderall when I see Kelly. But I’m 32 and I have the angry forhead wrinkle already, so I can see in 10 years being tempted to do it too, if it could look as nice as hers does.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

I’m 33 and my “eleven” seem to have made an appearance overnight.
Retin-A has seemed to soften it a bit. Also, I try so hard to not frown or look “concerned”..haha..Ugh. Being a woman sucks sometimes. Always said I would never do plastic surgery, not even injections but as I get older…I dunno….

      • Bobo says:

I’m 33 as well and i’ve started to notice the eleven. First time i’ve ever heard it put that way and had to think about it for a moment. But i got it now! Literally! ;-)

    • OriginalTiffany says:

I don’t have an 11, but I have some horizontal forehead lines. I think I must raise my eyebrows a lot!

      I’m 43 and use retinols-resist the needle!

I kinda like being able to look pissed or happy or whatever. I can scare my kids better. JK-kinda.

      • Sofie says:

I’m only 25, but I like to think that I’ll be as awesome as you when I have kids and keep my face the way it is so I’ll still get my point across with just a look.

    • Pandy says:

I’m 50 and have been getting botox for about 1.5 years now. I love it. Nice to have a smooth forehead and no frown lines – I HATED those – always looking angry or preoccupied. Ugh. If the tools are there, go for it. Or not. Own choice. I’m just back from injections after work actually. I got a bit of plump in my lips too – very subtle. My second try at that as my lips were thinning out and starting to look angry too! I love lipstick and it was depressing to see my lips change with age as well. None of my friends know and none of them can tell, so you can get both done and not have it be obvious. I look great. : )

  12. mar says:

I don’t understand why these beautiful faces need to get botoxed. European women seem to be able to age more gracefully while we all seem to want to dress and look 20 forever. People still look old with no wrinkles post botox. And puffy.

    • IzzyB says:

Here in the UK during PSHE (Personal and Sexual Health Education) we were talked to about plastic surgery.

The phrase I’ll always remember: “Plastic surgery isn’t makeup. If it goes wrong you can’t just wipe it away. It’s there forever.”

I think it’s why we’re a bit less gung-ho about it than the US (sorry for the generalisation, I mainly mean TV and movie stars).

  13. TheOriginalKitten says:

I’ve always loved Ripa-she just seems so self-effacing and her husband is hot.

I appreciate that she’s being honest about the injections

  14. serena says:

    Kelly disappointed me.
‘As much as possible’, sure inject toxins in your body it’s all health. Then she goes talking about being healty..this make no sense to me.

I appreciate that she admitted it (side eye at Nicole Kidman) but she shouldn’t be proud about it, and that’s the impression she gives me.

  15. Sirsnarksalot says:

A tiny bit of body fat would go a long way to softening her look. She’s very sinewy like Madonna these days. Just seems like a desperation woman wanting to hold onto her straying husband. Remember the blind about Mark and ‘s wife having an affair? Makes me think the Lainey blind that every one wants to pin on John Hamm could actually be about Kelly and Mark….

    • Pandy says:

Trust me – I’m 5’4″ and weigh 155. In no way am I sinewy, but it doesn’t stop the wrinkles!!

  16. barb says:

    She’s 41? She looks about 31!

    • Holly says:

You should see her without the full make-up treatment though, it ain’t pretty.

If we all had hair extensions, crazy diets, were at the gym all day after our 1hr+ of work for the day, and Oscar Blandi cutting/taking care of our hair weekly, we’d all look good as well!

  17. some bitch says:

There has to be a connection between Botox and bitchface, because Kelly is developing one.

    • Zwella Ingrid says:

LOL! What is bitchface? That is a new one on me?!

    • AJ says:

Yes, I agree. That is a perfect way to put it… bitch face! She needs to gain 15 pounds and take some ritalin. I don’t think her body is sexy at all. It is too late to save her skin, it looks like shoe leather.

  18. Amanda says:

Dr. Brandt is the man responsible for Madonna’s “youthful” (scary) appearance. Have you ever seen a picture of him?

I would not let that man touch my face. I wonder who does his work? Now that’s scary! There are much better plastic surgeons out there. My friends and I often question why certain celebs, who have access to the best doctors, look the worst? Do they just take it to the extreme? What kind of doctor would risk his reputation to go to such extremes? It’s a shady business out there folks.

    • mar says:

He looks so “young” doesn’t he? :)

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

        HOLY SH*T!!

*covers mouth and jumps under desk to hide*

Is the monster gone now? Is it safe for me to come out?

    • rumbleseat says:

OH MY GOD! That’s the Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More guy, the guy I gave my money to? I always pictured him old and looking like my pediatrician. AHHHHHHH!

      • Sassy says:

He is old. In his sixties. Google him to see what he looked like before shooting himself up with fillers. Very strange.

    • Zwella Ingrid says:

Ewww! He is freaking creepy! The picture actually reminds me of the Taylor Swift photo posted today!

    • Lisa says:

DEAR GOD, I need that crucifix from the other post, and a gallon of Holy water.

    • OriginalTiffany says:

The monster was frightening but MicaelK’s take on him had me almost pee my pants. OMG, I love him so much.

Note to self *Never buy a Dr. Brandt product*

Is there room under the desk if I bring delusion shots?

    • thinlizzy says:

      ewww ewww ewww
never in a million years would I go to him, hell wouldn’t even use his products.
Who is Jen Aniston’s botoxoligist. He does great work.

  19. Minty says:

“At 41, Kelly Ripa looks better than most women half her age.”

Ugh. The Daily Mail “writers” are full of ass-kissing bullsh*t. They’re the same people who wrote that Cindy Crawford looks better than ever. *Rolls eyes*

No, Kelly does not look better than most 20 or 21-year-old women. She’s tanorexic (look at that sun damage), gristly from overexercising, and tweaked in the face. I don’t dislike her. She’s funny and charming on her show. But in her quest to appear “perfect”, she just ends up looking artificial and underweight. Most young women haven’t messed with their faces yet and have soft contours. They look natural, which is better than artificial.

    • Lisa says:

I hate to throw shade, but look at the people who write for the Daily Mail. They’re not lying…

  20. Tanya says:

on her show when I am able to catch it, she always makes remarks about herself..her weight..or compares herself to other celebrities bodies that come out as a guest. She’ll say things like if I had your body or was as thin as you..that sort of thing. Those comments show how distorted she kind of is…she is built like a little boy, and over exercises which is really going to burn out her adrenals in a few years…creates alot of free radical damage as well. Not worth it when less can me more without wearing out the poor body.

    • Lisa says:

Does she? I never noticed. I know she loves when they have exercise segments on, but oddly enough she rarely participates because she has those huge heels on!

Unfortunately, she’ll probably age overnight. She looks okay now, but Botox can only do so much, and lifestyle only helps if you aren’t overdoing it.

  21. KellyinSeattle says:

I have loved Kelly since her All My Children days. Same with Susan Lucci. I don’t care if she gets botox; at least she admits it. I think she’s funny and doesn’t take herself as seriously as most “stars”.

  22. NYC_girl says:

I don’t like that sunken chest cavity she has or the lipliner thing. It’s really unappealing.

  23. A Fan says:

I saw a picture of Kelly Ripa in a bikini once and I’ll never be able to get that image out of my mind. That she admits to Botox (and whatever else), is not surprising.

What is surprising, is a society that has slowly but surely bought into the fact that this is what is attractive.

    • AJ says:

I agree. Looking like a starved individual with veiny arms with a puffy, shiny face is considered looking great! Go figure…

  24. carrie says:

i applause her honesty and her doctor is great

  25. Lisa says:

A friend of mine saw her in person and said she looks completely different irl. This was at an event, so she was made up, not just coming out of the grocery store in sweats. She said her nose looked kind of sunken in and she was kind of hunched over. She seems very sweet. I hope she’s taking care of her health.

  26. LibsW says:

It’s good to see someone able to at least move some facial muscles after having botox, but can people not understand that they are injecting POISON into themselves?! I know people from the medical profession say it’s safe to use, but really we are the 1st generation of people to use it so much and without giving it so much as a 2nd thought. I dread to think what will have happened in 40 years to all these people that have used it. Hmmmm….

  27. ramie says:

big deal – of course she gets Botox. at least she admits it. why is everyone freaking out about it?

  28. Agnes says:

    no sh-t.

  29. S says:

Like so many others have posted, I respect Ripa for admitting to her Botox use. It’s refreshing when most entertainment personas deny, deny, deny getting cosmetic work done (even when it’s glaringly obvious).

But I absolutely don’t find her Botox use surprising in the least. Not in terms of how she looks, and not in terms of her occupation in the entertainment industry.

As for the unfortunate connection society has begun to draw between Botox and beauty, I know teenagers and college kids who think they need Botox. Yeah. I don’t know whether to laugh, cry, punch a wall, or sock them in their dewy, collagen-rich little faces.

  30. Angel says:

OMG, Dr. Brandt! Have you seen this man???

Any doctor that has allowed this to happen to his own face is not coming within an inch of me.

  31. Nina W says:

I grew up in Santa Barbara surrounded by the “beautiful people” and nothing turns you off Botox like being surrounded by it’s customers. We age and we wrinkle, that’s what happens, grow up and accept it. Botoxed women certainly do not look youthful or especially attractive with a constant look of surprise frozen on their faces.Just put down the damn mirror and stop worrying about it, you’ll give yourself wrinkles.

  32. larry says:

I hate when ppl say she looks 31 even though she’s 41 or whatever the case is. Put a 31 yr old woman next to her and she looks at least 41. How about she looks great for 41 even though I don’t think she does as perviously posted she is waaay too skinny her head looks huge and her teeth aslo look really big.

  33. juju says:

First let me say I think Kelly hasn’t overdone the Botox. If you are in front of the camera constantly you cannot have an angry face and all she did was remove that with Botox. Her face isn’t frozen. People at home are very naive about all the people that come on the show, celebrities/actors/performers/singers. The camera is not very forgiving and neither are PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET. Everyone is a critic it seems and everyone seems to think they have a right to say what someone should or shouldn’t do with their face! You would be very surprised to know that most of Hollywood has had their nose and chin done because of the cameras.
For those of you that think European women are so much smarter and just age gracefully, well where do you think most of these injectables have been in use for the past fifteen or twenty years? Sculptra, Botox, etc have all had approval for years before getting FDA approval. European really keep themselves up. Their buildings may look old but they don’t!
Smarten up people….eat right, exercise, give up the soda and starchy carbs. Maybe life will be good to you. But if you or someone decides to do a little wise maintenance, leave them alone!
Good for you Kelly…you seem happy.
