Kate Middleton is smug as a new round of engagement rumors start up

My God, Kate Middleton looks smug. Like this wedding she and Prince William attended together was her favorite, best day ever. Look, William posed with her for photos! He didn’t seem bothered to be seen with her! He didn’t make her stand several paces behind him! They were even touching briefly! And Kate looks so f-cking happy, you would think it was her own wedding, after eight long years of clinging to the Man Who Will Be King. For his part, William looked reasonably game, and there are a couple of shots of him where he doesn’t look quite so… Windsor-ish. But that hair! And those pants. They’re tapered! They’re old-man pants. Come on, Will! Anyway, this was Will and Kate’s first public outing together in 104 days – The Daily Mail was counting. And The Mail even has a helpful bracket to show us that this is the eleventh wedding Kate has been to in the past few years, and that “surely it’s Kate’s turn soon!” Poor, lop-sided-face Waity Katy. But no worries, because this public outing has begun a new round of engagement rumors, fresh from Kate’s PR team, right?

Kate Middleton appeared in public for the first time in more than three months yesterday as she and William attended his friend Harry Meade’s wedding. Speculation that the Royal couple are about to announce their engagement was fuelled when they walked through the porch of the church together. They usually arrive at such events separately to avoid being photographed side by side.

A source at St Peter and St Paul’s church in Northleach, Gloucestershire, said: ‘When they turned up together and went through the front where there were obviously photographers, no one could believe it. It’s very unusual and very significant.’

Yesterday was the first time that Kate, 28, had stepped out with William since July 10, when she watched him play polo at the Beaufort club in Gloucestershire. Sources say she has been kept in the background ahead of an engagement announcement. In recent months Kate and William, also 28, have been living as man and wife on the island of Anglesey, in Wales, where he is training as a search and rescue pilot.

Friends say they are ‘road-testing’ married life. Yesterday was the eleventh wedding of friends that Kate has attended in the past five years – seven of them with William, her boyfriend of eight years. Senior courtiers have expressed concerns that Kate, who has watched most of her girlfriends start families, could be ‘the next Camilla’. But friends insist an engagement announcement is imminent and say they are privately ‘as good as engaged’ – it is just a case of making the announcement public.

William, though, is said to be reluctant to do so. Aides say his focus is on his military career and having ‘as normal a life as he can for as long as he can’.

Happy and relaxed-looking William and Kate sent a ripple of excitement through the congregation at the village church when they arrived together to see showjumper Mr Meade, 27, marry primary schoolteacher Rosie Bradford, 30. Mr. Meade is also a friend of Prince Harry, who was not at the wedding. The Prince had been criticised for wearing a Nazi uniform at Mr Meade’s 22nd birthday party.

Kate, in a stunning royal blue dress, sported tanned legs from the recent Kenyan safari she and William have enjoyed at the family home of his former girlfriend Jecca Craig. Jecca, whom William met when he first visited the Craigs’ estate at 16, was also at the wedding. A young William was said to have been so besotted with heiress Jecca that they staged a mock engagement ceremony when he returned to work in Kenya during his gap year.

William’s other old flames, Rose Farquhar and Olivia Hunt, were also at the ceremony. Rose, daughter of Captain Ian Farquhar, Master of the Beaufort Hunt, was William’s first serious girlfriend, dating him shortly after he left Eton. Then when he was in his first year at St Andrews University, where Kate also studied, he reportedly dallied with Olivia. The relationship fizzled out and she went on to date William’s best friend William Van Cutsem.

Kate wore a chunky silver band on her small finger yesterday. When she was seen in July, she wore nothing. But previously she has worn a delicate silver band with a stone on her middle finger. It had been rumoured that William and Kate became engaged during a trip to Balmoral last month. But Palace aides yesterday dismissed that as ‘categorically untrue’.

A source close to the couple said: ‘They have had ups and downs and come through rough patches. But Kate dotes on William and he adores her. They really are the perfect match and they will certainly be married soon.’

Last week The Mail on Sunday revealed that the Royal Mint is making a commemorative coin in anticipation of a wedding. The mould of the coin, featuring William and ‘Catherine’ is in the early stages of design. Several caterers and events organisers are also known to be compiling plans ahead of an announcement. When he does eventually marry, William wants to stay out of the limelight and is said to be keen to continue living on Anglesey where he and Kate enjoy peace and quiet.

‘No one bothers them in Anglesey. They are left to their own devices and they love the freedom and nature up there,’ said a friend.

‘They plan to make Wales their home for the next couple of years.’ St James’s Palace said: ‘Only Prince William and Kate Middleton know what their plans are.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Ah, you see why Kate and Will were so public about being photographed together, right? Because every girl that Will has ever dated was at the damn wedding! Kate made sure she kept very, very close to him. Seriously, though, I do think it’s significant that Will and Kate were photographed together so publicly, and if this means that an engagement will be happening soon, I think we should all give a round of appaluse to Kate for sticking with him for EIGHT YEARS. However, if no engagement is forthcoming, and this public outing was just the bare minimum Will could do to placate Kate, then… maybe we should give a round of applause to Will? Because it really does seem like he’s doing the bare minimum, and maybe Will knows something we don’t – that Kate really isn’t that awesome?

you go girl! Only a few more years now!

  2. Lissa says:

I never warmed up to Kate Middleton for some reason, much less after I read reports that she was accepting free and lavish gifts from fashion houses and other companies because of her relationship with William.

  3. Obvious says:

In one shot she looks like the poor mans Lauren Conrad. But I like her. Basically I’m in the same boat, only it’s 6years instead of 8. Maybe I just feel sympathy for her.

  4. Po says:

I don’t think them not being married yet has anything to do with her. Look at his background. His parent’s marriage and the end to it was ugly. He’s probably scared to death.

  5. Hmm i don’t really “like” Kate but that’s mainly because she does NOTHING if she had a job or did charity work or something then i’d think more of her.
I’m not sure it’s as bad as everybody is making out, they have been together 8 years after all if he didn’t like her then he wouldn’t have been with her that long.
Some people do get along just fine without Marriage (although i’m sure it will happen) i was always more hopefull that Prince Harry (so hot) would marry Chelsea Davey lol

P.S am i the only one that thinks Prince William would look better with his hair shaved or bald?

  6. hayleej says:

She’s desperate and has no real profession but waiting. How can anyone consider that cool?

  7. Henriette says:

I like Kate and I like William but I think they hooked up too young for a couple who’d forever be in the public eye. I’d be delighted if they could make their relationship work forever but few super-famous people who settle down young are able to make those marriages last ’til death. And, sadly, he has rather lousy marital role models in his family.

  8. Raven says:

I can’t blame him for wanting a few more years of relative privacy. If they are living together in Wales and both seem to be happy, good for them.

  9. malachais says:

They’re body language is weird in these photos. Looks very staged. Will and Kate make a wonderful couple though.

I can relate to Kate, but I’ve been in a long-term relationship longer and am not worried about marriage. It will happen if its meant to – look at Charles and Camilla. Maybe she doesn’t either?

  10. Jen says:

    Remember when Wills was hot?

  11. HotPockets says:

He looks more and more like his father everyday :/

  12. skibunny says:

Good looking couple. I think they’re waiting to avoid the sort of drama that surrounded Princess Diana. William looks like his mother. I still feel sad when I think of how she died and all the years her boys have missed out on having such a great Mom.

  13. Zoe says:

I have to ask who pays attention to these engagement rumors anymore (obviously, some do). Do you not realize that every other week for the past six years this has shown up in headlines? Who cares. When it’s official, people can start talking about it. It’s the boy who cried wolf, by the time it finally happens people are going to be completely over it. Must be a slow week in the newsroom.

  14. Brittney says:

I adore the color of her dress.

  15. scrappy says:

jen,i remember when will was hot. who would have guessed looking at them growing up, harry would turn out to be the hot one!

  16. B says:

Oh fantastic, he’s, possibly, finally going to settle now that he’s rapidly age-morphing into Pops. As long as they’re happy, then good & whatever!

  17. Pete says:

So the big question is: Will they be married before William goes bald?

  18. OtherChris says:

She really doesn’t bother me, although she’s gotten a little thin lately. I give him credit for sticking with a girl who is pretty ordinary looking.

  19. asiont says:

I hope their wedding will never happen, William is a prince and in spite of it, he has a real job, so why wouldn’t his future wife?

  20. hellen says:

She has no pride. This is no ordinary relationship, of course, but EIGHT YEARS? I actually have more respect for Chelsy Davy at this point. (Wow, Hell has just frozen over…)

  21. Amy says:

Unfortunate for William he looks so much like Prince Charles! There was a period of time where he was really cute for a few years.

And I really do think these two care about each other. When they do announce their engagement, the media is not going to let them have privacy. They are already hounded enough as it is, I don’t blame them for not wanting to make any kind of announcement.

  22. euroschmuck says:

how can it be that hey both get uglier and uglieras the years go by?
get married already while you still look fresh!

  23. dvz says:

It’s never going to happen with her. She doesn’t have the pedigree or any sort of “it” factor to be the future queen. She is not particularly attractive or graceful, and she has not been exactly warmly embraced by the rest of the royal family. That alone speaks volumes to her marriage-worthiness

Also, the two of them live together, openly. Buzzer noise here. The royal family has changed quite a bit in the last few decades, but that is a bit beyond the pale.

I have a feeling “The Firm” already has someone lined up for Wills. Kate will get some lovely parting gifts, and that will be that.

William is going to wait until he’s good and ready (read: pushed) to get married and get the hand-picked nubile thing knocked up. His father waited until he was 32 to (be forced) to marry, William is 28. The queen isn’t getting any younger, and she’s a big part of the show. Prediction: Marriage to someone we’ve probably never heard of will happen within 2-3 years.

  24. rr says:

If he doesn’t marry her I hope he finds an aristo husband for her, because she is looking a bit worn out.
She is not too bright and way too accommidating. Maybe he’s like Charles though, he just wants a eazy, no muss-flop to come home to.

  25. Darlene says:

I think there’s no reason to be so unkind to her. I know girls who were in relationships for longer than that because they loved the guy and they were both young, and they hoped marriage would be the eventual result.

She doesn’t have Diana’s charisma, that’s for sure, and maybe that’s the standard to which she’s being held…I think she’s probably in a place where she isn’t that concerned about being asked or not asked. I think that point probably passed for he a long time ago.

But I don’t dislike her and I don’t think she’s just putting her whole life on hold to wait for his proposal.

  26. snappyfish says:

She has handled herself brilliantly. She seems a lovely intelligent woman. I believe they will marry and I believe it will be a happy one……v v rare in the world of royals.

  27. Cheyenne says:

@dvz: I think you called it.

  28. gee says:

My god people are mean. She’s pretty! And maybe they dont need to get married at this point.. the commitment level is obvious.

  29. hmm says:

Yowzaa, judgmental much? Maybe if more people waited longer to get married the divorce rate wouldn’t be quite so high. This was quite the snarky post, me thinks.

  30. Lynda says:

Let them get married and make Queen Liz a great grandma. M/B she’ll retire then.

  31. flourpot says:

I looked her up and she really has done nothing! Granted, her family has millions so she doesn’t have to but..jeez. Booring. Hanging about waiting for some plain, balding, badly tho richly dressed prince to inherit the throne? Tacky. I don’t like her. Gotta wonder what his gramma is saying about him “living in sin” with her for so long. Sow your royal oats, perhaps? :P

  32. manda says:

i wouldn’t call the outfit stunning at all

  33. buell says:

That hat can double as a frisbee later….

  34. wunderkindt says:

    ‘Bare Minimum Wills’

Oh c’mon everybody, it’s only been 8 years-not an entire decade!

  35. Chris says:

What a hard life he and Harry have had to endure. Having their mother ripped from them at such a young age and then having to put up with all the speculation about her death and her frosty relationship with Elizabeth, not to mention the burden of responsibility that goes with being a Royal. I wish the lads all the best.

  36. janie says:

enough harassing her bc she does not have a job. there is no way, as GF to William, that she could have a job. she would be followed, harassed, spied on, you name it. she does not have the protection of the royal family like Will.
also, they might not want to get married. their lives will change dramatically, all sorts of formalities once they become official. I would put it off as long as possible.

  37. Mizz Tickles says:

@future Will would look hotter if he shaved his head.

  38. REALIST says:

OMG, I know they’re British, but that hat is hideous!

  39. khaveman says:

I don’t know if in this day and age people get ‘married young’ anymore anyway. She’s pretty, she’s fit-looking and she is loyal to him. I think he is aging nicely; so what about the hair. Men can’t help that. I think Kate has to deal with a LOT of unwanted pressure in their relationship. If he wanted to break up with her, wouldn’t he have done it? I mean, he has the right.

  40. Kate says:

    Limey arse slag.

  41. Tannith says:

Good god the woman is wasting her life on a man who looks like he is 50 instead of 20 something

  42. Dominique says:

Wow, she is looking quite haggard

  43. Kiska says:

  44. Janine says:

I’m getting kind of sick of this ‘desperate woman so pathetic she’s sits around wainting for a proposal while empty her womb shrivels away’ mentality here. Where do you get that impression?

Because they’ve been together for eight years? What about Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel?

Is it because he’s unbelieveably wealthy? What about Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan?

He’s royalty? What about Prince Albert? He’s 52 and hasn’t made it down the aisle yet, the horror!

I don’t get why we are so eager to rip into another woman, one who has never said or done anything offensive, and who we only know from tabloids and photographs. Maybe they both love each other and want to wait?

This is a really negative article, I know the site is called celebitchy, but sometimes you cross the line.

  45. Beth says:

Wow. You really seem to hate her! She’s no Diana sure, but nobody ever will be. I agree with janie, she probably can’t have a job because she’d be stalked, and why does she have to work abnyway? Diana didn’t exactly continue her career as a teacher after she met Charles either…

  46. whateva says:

some of you are so stupid with the comments you make its clear (u know nutin) they are kids in love and yes he happends to be a prince, why would it be desprate on her part to be in love and not in a hurry to marry. william will marry her. you baffons will see. i think this is just the green eye monster speaking through most of you. she looks pretty…

  47. Mare says:

If he thinks that she isn’t that awesome, why doesn’t he leave her?

  48. kate 2.0 says:

I get that he might be scared of marriage because of his parents’ disaster of a “marriage.” As the child of divorced parents with no particular desire to walk that gauntlet, I get it. Never say never, but I can take it or leave it.

BUT….my father did not have a 30?40?year love affair. Charles & Camilla humiliated themselves/others and went through a lot of sh** because they couldn’t stay apart. I am NOT saying its admirable – I’m saying that in their own really fucked up way, they prove sometimes the true love/soul mate thing actually happens and endures, no matter what-who-when-how. Maybe Wills can only see her as the woman who made his mother miserable, who knows. But I think Charles (in a fucked up way) 2d marriage was his “true love” prevailing, and he’s a prime example of why its best to follow your heart, not protocol, tradition, whatever. Can’t that help William get over the fear of marriage (that Charles half-created to begin with)?

  49. ittybitty says:

    Lose the fug hat! Ewwwwww!

  50. Crash2GO2 says:

I think she is lovely and I adore that in England women get to wear fabulous hats.

Why are other women so hateful in regards to this subject? Perhaps they see long unmarrieds as threats?

  51. JulieM says:

Once and for all, just because I have no respect for Waity Katie and think she’s a lazy whatever, does not mean I’m jealous of her. Take a good look at William. Balding (which he can’t help), boring, staid, tapered pants!, unremarkable in every way except for his fate. Do you really think she would have stuck it out this long if he were not heir to the throne? She can have him; they deserve each other.

  52. Statler says:

Thanks for continuing to cover this. The Windsors are usually good for entertainment, and even if the article is nothing new there’ll always be some hilarious comments. (‘He should shave his head’- gets me every time.)

Keeping my fingers crossed for VSM.

  53. Lee says:

She looks just like Celine Dion in one of those pics.

  54. BReed says:

Always enjoy reading stories and coments by those who think they “KNOW” things. None of us know ANYTHING, really. It’s their lives, their business. They are both attractive people who appear happy. Live & let live. Jeez!

  55. Kolby says:

Whoa. What is happening to her face?

  56. Iggles says:

    @ Janine:
“I’m getting kind of sick of this ‘desperate woman so pathetic she’s sits around wainting for a proposal while empty her womb shrivels away’ mentality here.

He’s 52 and hasn’t made it down the aisle yet, the horror!”

    Um. Bad analogies ALL around.

After so many years Goldie and Kurt likely have a common law marriage. And they do have a GROWN son together. It’s not like she’s still waiting for a ring to have babies with him.

Rich folks aren’t all alike. Ever heard of new money vs. old money??? A self made millionaire has very different expectations and responsibilities than a royal heir.

Prince Albert is a mess. Several kids out of wedlock. But, surprise surprise — he’s engaged so he IS getting married soon.

    @ JulieM:
“Once and for all, just because I have no respect for Waity Katie and think she’s a lazy whatever, does not mean I’m jealous of her.”

    I agree 100%. Well said.

People love to bring in their own baggage when deciding to defend women like Kate Middleton or Jennifer Aniston. There’s other reasons why people dislike them other than they’re not married!!!

What some want to claim as endurance and perseverance in the face of tradition is NOT what’s happening here in my opinion. I think she’s pathetic and desperate because I can call a spade a spade!

  57. Mare says:

How do you people know she is pathetic, desperate or boring? She’s not some actress who is giving endless interviews we all read and can see if someone is damb or boring or whatever. Kate has never said one word to media, never. We know nothing about her personality. I really dislike these articles and comments about her, they are all very mean.

  58. Sakota says:

I;m going to go out on a limb, but I think that Kate had better start worrying about her resume. She has to get it into her head that she isn’t ‘to the manor born’ and needs to make a living of her own, independent. If she has issues where hse can’t handle a full time job, she has no business joining the RF, where she will have to work 24/7. She might look smug now, but each time the frenzy starts, she ends up dumped or the Palace denies her again. How many more times can she take that level of rejection?

  59. sally says:

Get a job, a hobby, something… All she does is walk around in stupid hats.

  60. cruiz2 says:

I think she’s cute, love the dress & hat. But, buyer beware! Why mess up a comfortable life with crazy “Royals.” She’s a thousand times better than Paris Hilton’s track record – who does NOTHING! Rich marry rich, I would run from a title!

  61. Bridget says:

I didn’t think this was possible, but William actually looks older than Kate. His baldness doesn’t help. Man, they are an unattractive couple.

And I agree with this article. She looks so smug and full or herself, as always.
